I'd rather have Ribery than Kaką in THAT line-up.

In all probabilities Kaka' will leave so that place will be free so it can take Ribery (in my opinion).
Fishdoll
I just don't understand what players see in going to Real Madrid. Aside from lots of $$$$$.

Oh come on, Real Madrid is the club with most appeal in the world, with an enthralling history and a super-rich palmares (31 league titles, 9 Champions Leagues etc).

That said, I friggin' hate them. biggrin.gif
Fishdoll
Oh, good. Cos I'd have to push you in the Navigli if you liked 'em. biggrin.gif

The history is all well and good but the place is a train wreck for both players and coaches. Nobody comes out of there unscathed.

Jose Mourinho has been unveiled as the new manager of Real Madrid after signing a four-year deal at the club.

The 47-year-old replaced Chilean Manuel Pellegrini to become Real's 11th coach in the past seven years.

"I like to give myself a challenge and this is a big one," said Mourinho. "I have a lot of confidence in myself and my ability as a coach."

Sporting director Jorge Valdano said: "It's an honour to have one of the most prestigious coaches in the world."

Valdano added: "We are delighted to have him here with us. The best thing for our club right now is to have Mourinho with us."

Mourinho, once on the coaching staff at Barcelona, has moved to Spain after Real and his former club Inter Milan agreed a compensation package.

I am Jose Mourinho and I don't change - I arrive with all my qualities and my defects

The Portuguese boss won the Champions League in his final game at Inter after his side defeated Bayern Munich to complete a historic Treble, having already retained the Serie A title and defeated Roma to lift the Italian Cup.

But Mourinho explained that he felt the lure of coaching Real was too strong to resist.

"I don't know if I was born to coach Real Madrid but I was born to be a football coach," he added.

"I am Jose Mourinho and I don't change. I arrive with all my qualities and my defects.

"My attraction to Real Madrid is due to its history, its frustrations in recent years and its expectations to win.

"It's a unique club and I believe that not to coach Real leaves a void in a coach's career.

"Luckily, I've had a beautiful career and it makes me proud to have come here."

"I am very enthusiastic and I want my players to think that way," said the Portuguese.

"The beauty is not so much to train or play at Real, but to win at Real Madrid.

"I have a lot of confidence in my players, I have the hope that my new players have confidence in me."

Mourinho's Portuguese compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real from Manchester United for £80m last summer.

And the new boss hinted that the 25-year-old will have to fit into his disciplined style of play if he is to flourish next season.

"I understand that Ronaldo is an important player for Real and for the world of football," said the new boss.

"But my players must understand that the most important thing is the club.

"Cristiano likes to win, so if he likes to win it is not difficult to persuade him the most important thing is not the coach or the players but the club.

"If we all work as a group we will get results."

I think four years of contract is enough to win, to build a strong team for the present and the future."

I actually thought there were more.
Zed.D
I don't think Mourinho will get to see out his contract with Madrid. no coach can last 4 years in that mess of a club. his football is not 'attacking and beautiful' enough for Madrid anyway.
Jack Sparrow
So long as he wins a lot and doesn't lose/draw more than 3 matches in a row...they'll let him be. Right now Madrid are just desperate to be winning again. After that they'll think of playing beautiful. Barca has really made them desperate.
Fishdoll
They sacked Capello for not playing pretty football even though they won the league under him.
Jack Sparrow
Yup..but then they got humiliated in the CL...his time was already up then. The late renaissance towards the end of the season thanks to Beckham didn't impress enough people. If Mou wins enough, they'll keep him. If he loses pace even once, or if Madrid appear anything less than tremendous, then he's done. It'll be interesting. Spanish media are probably the only ones who can compete when it comes to vitriol against Mou.
Fishdoll
So. I hold Real Madrid to be second only to inert in the footballing axis of evil but even I have to put my fins together today and tomorrow. An era is ending at the club.

Today, Guti announced his departure from the club (link).

Tomororw will be Raul's turn (link).

Two legends for Madrid. Respect to the pair of them.
kurtsimonw
I heard on SSN that Raul may be off to Schalke, seems an odd move.
Zed.D
I can't imagine Raul in any other team...
Jack Sparrow
I hope he goes. I've always had to keep myself from eating my foot, when they compare the likes of Raul and Gerrard to Maldini...because of the 'one-club' thing. They don't seem to realise it's a lot more than that.
Zed.D
And I hope he retires.

I know you don't like Raul but come on, you can't mention the diving cheat that is Gerrard in the same line as him! being a good footballer or a one-club man isn't everything. that's why not everyone can be like Raul and Zanetti, both of whom I respect very much.

As for Maldini... it's a different story. he's God and there can only be one God!
Jack Sparrow
I don't know. I just always believed that Raul had something to do with the way Ronaldo was treated at Madrid. Weird I know. Zanetti is okay. Just never found anything to admire much. Sort of like if you have a Bugatti Veyron, you're not likely to admire your neighbours Porsche.
Zed.D
You're letting your imagination get the better of you, Jack. Raul is a nice, humble guy - I can't see how he can be involved in anything remotely negative. in fact, he's so humble he's decided to make space for Real's new signings! he could've continued to warm the bench and make cameo appearances and win more trophies but he didn't. that deserves credit cause he is after all Raul Madrid.

I didn't know where I should put this but this thread seems appropriate enough. simply amazing to see something like this at the U19's championship.

I think the Spanish will rule football for many years to come. on the other hand Italy are fast becoming a 2nd tier football team. really sick and pathetic. I was looking forward to see how Azzurrini do in the championship after what happened to Azzurri in the world cup. but meh, they're nothing special I guess. finished last in their group with two losses and one draw.....

EDIT: my brain can't comprehend! how the **** does he do it?!
