(from his tribute page on acmilan.com)
Marco Van Basten, born in 1964, was probably one of the strongest and most complete strikers in the history of football. The Dutchman could run 100 meters in less than 11 seconds, could dribble, run, had technique, was acrobatic and precise and had a great vision of the game. In his repertory of goals there were any number of solutions and his class was cristallized when he 'danced' with the ball like a ballerina (which is how he got his nickname, 'the Swan of Utrecht'). At Milan from 87/88, he won the first scudetto of the Berlusconi era. In Sacchi's Milan he became an unstoppable force. Playing 147 games in Serie A (90 goals) and 54 games in Cups (34 goals). He won 4 scudetti, 3 Champions Cups (CL) and 2 Intercontinental Cups. In testimony of his power, he also won the Pallon d'Or three times. Because of trouble with his ankle, after three operations Marco Van Basten retired from football in 1995.

It's like everyone's favorite Van Basten goal
It still looks amazing after two decades. this is not the case with many of those years' goals. goals that one can imagine wouldn't have been scored if today's defenses/GKs were there...
P.S.: I honestly think
this comes very close to MvB's goal. I mean dribbling past two defenders and lobbing the ball like that when Gigi is in goal...

It's not bad, zd, but even Shevchenko at his best for Milan was (IMO) no real comparison to Van Basten. Yes, I know myself to be biased, but no Milan striker has come close to MVB's brilliance as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I was born in '86 so I don't remember anything about Van Basten (I have no idea how Jack does as he's only one year older than me
). I've seen only his clips, etc. so I'm not going to argue about it.

When I once said the same thing you did...R7 dragged me by the ear to a shop which had archived Serie A games footage on videotapes. I've never known doubt since.
Seriously. I mean with MvB the game was so simple, all you had to do was pass the ball to him and he'd score. Do you remember Carlo's interview when he says the same thing and says Kaka reminds him a little of that when he is in top form?
And THAT team had a beast of a mid-field with Frank, Ruud, the Don and even Carlo. No need to talk about the defence. Man...I think that's the greatest team that ever was!! It was the original galatico team, and more importantly it was a team, not 11 superstars.

Jack's a pirate, zd.
You should know better than to trust him with these sorts of things! In light of my latest calculations, he's well over 80 years of age, give or take 5. I was born in 1985. I've got proof via PMs he's sent me that mention him recalling things decades ago.
Meaning when he says '85' it means he's 85, not born in that year.
Kapeesh?

Here's a clip I dug up from youtube. I think there are too many goals of MvB, but people ignore his other aspects. He was a genuinely complete forward. And he retired at 28!!
Should rightfully have been the striker of the 90s. Damn..the b@st@rds who kicked him out...
MvBNobody's ever come close since. Closed spaces, open spaces, left foot, right foot, cross, through ball...it was all so easy for him.

No Contact Between AC Milan And Marco Van Basten - Agent
Van Basten's agent has played down the rumours linking the Dutch coach with Milan...
Marco van Basten's agent, Perry van Overeem, has taken the time to comment on a report in Thursday's Il Corriere dello Sport that claimed Milan have already met with the former Ajax tactician about replacing the struggling Leonardo as head coach of the Rossoneri.
"I can only deny the rumours that Milan have contacted me or Marco van Basten personally," said Van Overeem to Infostrada Sports.
"Marco is not yet interested in picking up a coaching job after his departure at Ajax last summer. He is considering his future at the moment and he will probably start looking for a new club this winter."
Local media in Italy claim that Leonardo has lost control of the dressing room, and team morale is heading on a downward spiral. It is said that he has been given one last chance to turn the clubs fortunes around - this weekend's game against Atalanta.

Great goal by sheva, had me off my seat running around the room, but, its only when you rewatch some clips of MVB that you realise just how good he was! Inspirational player, when i was a kid playing football all the kids thought they were MVB or Maradona, hehe me included just about broke my neck trying the bicycle kick

besides the good run he had with the dutch nt i don't think MVB's been that excellent in his coaching+ with our current squad i don't see him doing that much better than leo.
the management just has to accept that our playing roster hasn't been anywhere near scudetto worthy for the last 3/4yrs and they've almost all declined so we're probably not good enough to even make europe next year cos most other sides(genoa, fiorentina, lazio, juve) have all gotten stronger

Just watched Sky Sports' Football's Greatest. This one was on van Basten, a documentary of his career type thing. Really enjoyable, you get to hear from his dad, youth coaches, players who played with at Ajax, etc.
I never knew he nearly signed for Inter, but something to do with an injury and then Italian clubs not being able to sign foreigners meant they had to put it on hold.. then we beat them to him.
