Maldini Wants Perfect End To Career
Milan captain Paolo Maldini wants to cap off a glittering career by winning the Champions League this season.
The 39-year-old made his debut for the Rossoneri in 1985, an incredible 23 years ago, but he will retire from football at the end of the season.
If Milan make it all the way to the Champions League final, his last-ever match should be at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on May 21.
“Am I already picturing my farewell game? Yes, it will be played in Moscow,†Maldini smiled.
The Rossoneri face a tough task to get there as they have been drawn with Premiership League-leaders Arsenal in the last 16.
“It will be a very difficult and spectacular test,†the legend admitted.
“Arsenal have great quality and unpredictability, while nobody can match us in terms of experience. We have no reason to fear any opponent.â€
Milan have had a disastrous domestic start to the season and currently languish in 12th position in Serie A, having still failed to win at home in the league.
“Right now we feel free from any pressure. It is pointless denying the first match back will be a very important test for us,†added Maldini.
“It is difficult to understand how Milan can play so well away from home and yet struggle badly in their own stadium. We’ve got to beat that taboo and Napoli [next weekend], who are doing very well, when we get back to San Siro.â€
