Marco Van Basten has confirmed he’ll quit the Dutch team after Euro 2008, which could have major repercussions for Milan’s coaching situation.
The three times Ballon d’Or winner will not be renewing his contract to take charge of Holland, announced director general of the Dutch FA Henk Kesler this evening.
There had been rumours this would be the case, but the news is now official, so the race is on to see which club side Van Basten will move to next.
The main options are Milan and Barcelona, but either decision could have repercussions for Carlo Ancelotti.
It is reported that if Van Basten takes over at Barca, this will free his former Rossoneri teammate Frank Rijkaard to come back to San Siro as Coach.
Euro 2008 is the key turning point here, as if Roberto Donadoni – another member of Il Grande Milan under Arrigo Sacchi – does not impress with Italy in the summer tournament, then Ancelotti is the hot favourite to replace him at the Azzurri.
Van Basten’s management career has been relatively unsuccessful, as he was appointed to Holland in July 2004.
They were eliminated from the 2006 World Cup in the second round by unfancied Portugal in an extraordinarily ill-tempered encounter, while they only qualified for Euro 2008 behind Romania.
Van Basten’s fate is inevitably linked to his adopted homeland, as Holland take on Italy in the ‘Group of Death’ at Euro 2008 along with France and Romania.

A big no for me yet. Until now he only managed Holland and the only notable thing he has done is feuds with players. For now, he needs to prove himself more before taking a club like Milan. After few years in other team, then maybe.

I love MvB, but nobody's taking Carletto away from Milan except himself. I'll kill something otherwise.
From the footballers that formed the greatest team of all times I'd take Donadoni then Rijkaard. van Basten comes in third. He used to be the most complete forward I've ever seen but as a coach he still has a long road to walk.

Nope. I'd rather try out Billy or Paolo. But not van Basten. Maybe Rijkaard.
My tip is, that in July Donadoni, van Basten and Rijkaard all will be free/without job. But none of them suits our team and our reputation. Sure, they are three Milan legends, but only Rijkaard has some good references till now.
Carletto stays!

I don't know how Donadoni can be out of a job, and Carletto still stay on in Milan.
For what it's worth I really want Donadoni to do well. If he gets fired (say) and Carlo doesn't move, then doesn't that only leave Capello and Lippi free.
I don't think Lippi would come back to the Azzzuri, and Capello seems more inclined to go the England route.
It's all very confusing, this manager roulette.

I haven't played since school...

I discovered computer games then. Early next year, I'll see you on the cards table.

Back to the topic,..
It seems MvB could take over at Bayern after Euro 2008 and Hitzfeld's retirement.
Billy Costacurta, Frank Rijkaard or Marcello Lippi, one of those 3 could be Carlo's succesor IMO. But i still see us with Carlo at the beggining of next season,..

I'd love to see Milan bring on Lippi, Hiddink, Avocaat or Flores.
The last probably made some of you roll your eyes, but I personally rate him very highly.
