Carlo Ancelotti admits he considered joining Real Madrid last summer before opting to stay with Milan.
The former Italy international claims he was in the running to take over at the Bernabeu before compatriot Fabio Capello was appointed.
But Ancelotti, who recently signed a new contract at Milan, revealed his love for the European champions prompted him to stay.
"Last year with Real Madrid there was a good feeling," Ancelotti told Sky Sport.
"But my affection [for Milan] prevailed and I stayed."
Ancelotti's decision to stay with Milan was vindicated when the Italian giants beat Liverpool 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League final.
And Ancelotti appeared confident about the prospects of retaining the trophy now that Ronaldo will be available for selection.
He added: "We won the Champions League without Ronaldo and this year we will have him."
