Samuel Eto'o's agent has vehemently denied that the sought-after Barcelona striker has had a meeting with Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

The Cameroon star has been linked with a move to the Premiership, but the 26-year-old's representative has denied Eto'o is to leave the Catalan giants.

The latest reports claim Eto'o held talks with Benitez on Monday night, but agent Jose Maria Mesalles told Sport: "It is just a huge lie. Eto'o was in Belgium with the Cameroon squad on Monday night.

"We do not understand why these false stories keep appearing. The club knows all too well that he is very happy at Barcelona and wants to stay.

"He has a very good contract and wants to comply with that."

Mesalles dismissed claims Eto'o has held secret meetings before Barca had been informed of any official interest.

"We are not going to listen to any offers. The club will be the one that receives the offers, we never hear about them first," he said.

"It is clear that he wants to stay.

"It is not about a club meeting a clause in his contract. Eto'o wants to play for Barca for many years to come and that is that."
