Hey guys, I started this topic because I want to give some basic opinions of mine concerning our current situation, because I can't see things going out well if we go on like this.

1. Don Silvio and Galliani

I know it's almost a sacrilege to say this, but Silvio has to give the club our at least the responsibilty to someone else, and I'm not talking about a chairholder like Galliani, I'm talking about a real change. He should at least let one of his sons do all the business concerning Milan. Silvio has done great things for the club in the past, but this time is long gone. He didn't do a thing for Milan in the last years, he only cared for his political career and Mediaset (I know Milan is a part of Mediaset, but he only does things for Milan if it's good for the entire Mediaset group). If he really cares for Milan the club could have easily avoided a calciopolli penalty, of that I'm sure.---> He should give the club away if he doesn't want it anymore.
Galliani should also go IMO. His transfer policy in the last years was a joke, and especially since the 2005 final it aonly weakened us. Nothing has been done concerning the squad since 2001. The only player we spent big money on was Gila, and we all know what a great investment in our future he was mad.gif . Signing Ricky wasn't more than winning the lottery. Who did we sign in the last seasons? 34 year old Favalli, 32 year old damn Vieri, 32 year old Amoroso and many more crap players like Dhorasoo and Vogel, car that only costed us money and didn't help us in ANY way. And now all this rumours about useless oldies like Emerson, Zé and Canna joining us next season really scares me.
All the runmours concerning young players we could have signed (Ibra, Sobis, Pato,Carrizzo, Akinfeev, Ilsinho) turned out to be B/S.
Instead of building up a squad Silvio and Galliani want to sign Ronaldinho.

The contract situation:

We already what it takes to sign Ronnie. There won't be any new signings instead of him for the entire next season. Instead of refreshing our defense and the entie WAY TOO OLD team we're renewing tzhe contracts of 2nd class players like Simic. Plus, why did we renew Didas contract? He wasn't playing good for a long time, and it was obvious his desire to play for Milan could have been stronger (he waited until the almost last moment to renew his contract). I know signing Gigi was just a dream, but Amelia or Boruc would have been possible and not to expensive alternatives. But now, as always we can't give away our good old things...
And what about Seedorf? Renewing his contract was a good decison, but why until 2010? Other clubs are giving 30+ players only contracts for one year, but we're giving them contract for 4 years!
While we're renewing our oldies contracts, Galliani already thinks of giving our only good young player (Gourcuff of course) away on loan.

The Primavera:

In the last months I asked myself "Why do we have a primavera?" I know some might say now "We don't have players like Messi or Walcott in our youth." Well, if we have one we won't find out for sure, because our Primavera players don't even have a chance to sit on the bench of our first squad. Players like Aubamayeng, Di Gennaro and Lunati should be given a chance!

Well, that's it for now, there are many more things bothering me, but it would take me too much time to write it and it'll take you guys too much time to read it biggrin.gif

Phew...I'm sure you feel much better now! Hope your keyboard's still in one piece. smile.gif

Now I'm counting the minutes till mah bro I_Ross comes in and says he agrees with you 110%, but then say u forgot to mention Carlo.

I'd give everyone one more year, it's harsh to end someones stay at a club after a season when they started with less than 0 points tongue.gif

Everybody knew we were not going to win the League this season but we still have CL hopes, give the load of 'em next year, if we fail to make at least top 3 finish (with Juve back in the league) and a decent showing in the CL and CI then boot 'em.

I didn't forget to mention him. He's not the who should be blamed for our current situation. In fact we owe him that Ricky is the best player in the world nwo. How many coaches would have had the courage to bench Rui Costa for a 21-year old?

It's not the players that scare me the most, it's the management that bought this players! And about which players exactly are you talking that you'd give one more year? Favalli? Gila? The only one who really deserves a 2nd chance is Oli because he faced a difficult situation with family members of his held hostage.

Phew! at least am not alone...MILAN (A Club [of] Men In Late Ages Napping - on the pitch of course!)
I say we need a revolution. Lets give the likes of Gorcuff a chance, terminate the old guys, no disrespect, they have done so much for us.
How can we be the team with the oldest players for 10 years running and instead of signing R.Sobis we beg for and sign R9?
Seedorf should honourably leave the club, Gorcuff should be a regular, Grimi should be groomed, sign Pato instead of Ronaldinho-he's already made a name for himself with Barca, and has gone thru the cycle of peak performance and slump! we need consistency, resilience, speed, goals and not flashes of brilliance from the likes of R9. Dinho will simply fall into this category.
Maldini we love you!! - its time though, grandpa Costacurta? we love you too.

LaPalma .. I understand where ur coming from and I too am sick of watching a match against a team like Reggina and hoping we dont loose the match and at some point wishing we could draw. I hate the feeling that Milan is at it's weakest point in the span of a five year period.

But with that left aside, Silvio and Galliani are business men and know how to work the market, which they have worked for so long now. The difference between Milan and any other team, in the transfer market, is to keep the team intact with a healthy dressing room atmosphere.

With that said, I still do agree with u, but Silvio has won more than any other president (of a club) in the 20 year period at the helm of Milan. And Galliani, though many dislike him, he is the most important part of Milan IMO .. He is the one that kept the team together after Istanbul

Players like Dharosso, Vogel, Amoroso, etc were stand in players for our first team. Milan cant get a Van der Vaart and keep him on the bench. And Milan cant get a Gallas and keep him on the bench, Favalli on the other hand is a good player for our bench, who is a stand in for our Maldini.

This is why I love Milan so much .. The team isn't about bringing in young prospects; it is about having a team able to challenge for at least two trophies every season. Milan doesn't wait on players to come about; Gourcuff is a good example of this.

Milan in a simple sentence is experience above all else. And that is what scares many teams that face us and believe it or not, we do scare teams, even with this weak team that we have wink.gif

Hope I recharged ur enthusiasm and don't loose hope, if R10 comes. Milan will still take care of what other players the team needs. i.e. a Costacurta replacment to be the least cool.gif

It's not that I don't honor what Silvio and Galliani have done for the club in the past. I also know that Galliani is the heart of the club and I never doubted his courage and love for the club. But as you said, both are businessman, and especially Silvio focused on other businesses in the last years. I can only recall: Where was he when Calciopolli harmed us? Where was he when we needed a Sheva replacement? Right, he was too concerned about his career as a politician. And about Galliani. I'm not saying he should leave the club entirely, but he should let someone else take care for the daily business.
All good things have to end someday.
And about holding the squad together. I always liked that about Milan. But what happens now is a joke. In the past we simply dumped players if they weren't playing good enough, and now we're renewing thir contracts????
And another thing that concerns me about holding our team together is that we became to predictable. Everyone knows our players, and everyone knows how they play together.
And players like Favalli aren't even good for the bench! I haven't seen Grimi on the bench recently. And if players like Amoroso, Vogel and DHorasoo were good players for the bench then tell me why they all left us after sometimes not even one season?
I really fear that we become like Barca and only rely on the individual class of our players. Signing Ronaldinho would be a step in that direction. Milan always was good as a team and never relied too much on the individual class of their players. But that's exactly what we did since 2005. Last season it was Sheva and Kaká, and this year it's Ricky alone. If we wouldn't have a player like we wouldn't even think about taking the 4th spot this season, and we might not have made it through the CL group stage...

My friend .. Silvio was with Milan when the calciopoli happened, he came out and was against Milan going down to Serie B (Milan was actually going to go down, if not for Silvio's intervension).

Milan doesnt depend on any player, that is true and one player isnt exactly Milan. But after several years of playing, a player has to come out holding the torch .. U say Kaka ?? I say Maldini, Kaka and Pirlo wink.gif

These players left us, cuz Milan sold them .. If it was up to them, they would sign a 10 yr contract with Milan .. Who wouldnt wink.gif

We have been suffering from injuries, our game isnt as spectacular and aggressive as it was last year and the years past .. I am not one to point the finger, but IMHO Sergio and Shevchenko were very important players for Milan ... Now we have R9, and Sergio is back and ready ..

No team has accomplished what Milan has accomplished in the span of five years .. This season is a one-off, don't let the events of this season get to you ... Milan will always buy these 30 or so players every summer, cuz Milan will always have the perfect XI and would need experienced players to come off the bench and give a hand, not wait for undeveloped players to waste our time on the pitch wink.gif

Why dont u think it is a good idea to renew Seedorf's contract ?? He would be a GREAT sub for R10 and has already stated that, if R10 comes, he would give up his #10 shirt ... So I dont want to bore u and keep going and going, cuz I'm sure u know all this .. All I'm saying, is that Milan is in safe hands and it wouldn't be wise to introduce someone new at the helm, cuz I doubt there is anyone on the face of this earth that has dedicated so much to and for Milan as Silvio ! .. The man is opening a check from his personal account to bring the best player in the world atm to Milan, who else would do that rolleyes.gif

As our freind Bob Marley would say : " No woman no cry .." biggrin.gif

For the sake of Milan I really hope you're right with what you said, still I disagree with u. Renewing Seedorfs contract was important, but he woN't be a sub for Ronaldinho because he play in centre midfield and Ronnie will act as second striker when he joins us.
You say we're in safe hands, I say we feel to safe. Just because we achieved much in the last couple of years that doesn't mean we will do it again just because we have a great past. Before this season started most of us were certain that we'd compete for the Scudetto, and now? I'd say we should leave our arrogance aside and face the truth. Our team needs to be renewed.

QUOTE
Sergio is back and ready

Everyone knows I really admire that guy but most of his game depends on speed. And I'm not certain that he'll someday be the man he was again. Don't forgert, he'll also be 35 this year.

I'm not saying we should buy 3 or 4 18 year old players from Argentina, all I'm saying is that we HAVE to renew our squad. I really admire players like Maldini and Billy, but this season showed both can't compete with 15 years younger players anymore!

QUOTE

I say Maldini, as great as he is as a player, didn't play for almost the entire last season and we didn't really miss him. After all our season was much better than this one. Pirlo played like sh!t for almost this entire season, and don't forget that it was Ricky who scored 6 of ou8 CL goals!
Portman
No chance. Silvio and Galliani will stay for long years. This mentality too.

Obviously I agree with many points that La Palma told... but, the reality is simple: not a chance.
We're not like Inter or some other clubs. A bad season = everybody is sold and get 20 new players. We're not that kind.

And that's what I like about Milan. There's nothing wrong about it. All I'm talking about is 2 or 3 new players in key positions like the central defense and central midfield.
Of course I know all this what what I'm saying is very unlikely to happen...
Rossoneri7
2 or 3 players are the least Milan will do during this summer's transfer campaign ... What happened last summer is something to take into consideration, as Milan were going to be demoted till the last minute ...

The summer before that ?? Milan had a perfect team that went to the CL final and lost it in 6 crazy minutes, plus we were 6 points (or 5) off of 1st place.

The season before that the scudetto ..

The one before that CL in Manchester.

I mean, where did Milan actually fail us ?!

The age of our players ?? Of those Cafu has been replaced, Sergio has his replacment (Grimi I presume), Stam had been replaced by a solid Bonera, Gourcuff is a breath of fresh air ... Milan is changing, but it isnt easy benching a player like Cafu .. I mean compare his form last season and the one before to Oddo's performance (even at Lazio..) ... All I'm saying is it takes time ... The team we have at the moment has chemistry and understanding that surpasses any other team !!

I agree (and always agreed) that new players are needed .. But it isn't easy replacing Maldini, Nesta, Dida, Seedorf, etc etc ... These are players of the highest quality Dida is one of the best Gkeepers in the world, Nesta is one of the best defenders in the world and Maldini is simply our Captain since Baresi ... How can u replace these players ?! It takes time .. And as time passes us by, they will be replaced with the best wink.gif

With that said, we will see at LEAST 2 or 3 new players in Milan .. But that is next summer, this season .. Milan came back from the bottom of the table to 3 points off of 4th place ! Milan is in the CL last 16 (I honestly think we have a chance of going to Athens - when we do, I'll see u there and ask u about what u think of Silvio and co. biggrin.gif tongue.gif ) and is still in contention.

Your word in gods ears. It'll take 2 or 3 years till we see which one of us is right concerning our future. But if we don't make it to 4th place not world class player will join us in the summer. Bringing in a whole new team and staff will not work, if anything it will make things worse. Keep the staff for sure, maybe get rid of a few fringe players. Bring in some new blood.

Sudden change is NEVER a good idea

changes should be phased in gradually. Bringing in some youth as we have done this year should have been ongoing 2-3 years ago

I think people here who watch La Liga regularly would confirm that Sobis hasn't been impressive for Betis, now imagine him at Milan. R9 can't be compared to him, he came here in let January and has already injected life into our team, and with him playing our attack has finally looked like it could do something.

I admit, I was one that was skeptical about R9 and didn't want him to come, but he's changed my mind completely just by what he's shown on the pitch and all the hard work he is putting in to play for us in good shape.

Seedorf is a champion with experiance, look at our important CL games from our previous seasons and also this one, he's instrumental for us. And yes he's slow and complaicent when it comes to games against small opposition, but you can't deny what he does for us when it comes to the crunch matches.

I think next season we'll see him and Gourcuff being rotated more frequantly in Serie A, with Yoann starting most of the games against the smaller sides to integrate him into the team gradually and without and big pressure to perform against big opposition.

La Palma, I agree with you to a certain extent about the things you wrote. Milan do need change, but Berlu and Galliani aren't the problem to a certain extant. Especially Galliani, Fester can only play the hand his been dealt, so to speak, if there is no money then he won't or can't spend. Plus Milan are not like Inter who go out and buy the big name just for the sake of it, so far it has only worked for them this year, while the league is considerably weakened. Milan look for something special in a player, that's why we are careful when buying young talent, like Sheva, Kaka, Yoann and so on.

If we don't make it to the CL for next season then we can forget about these key players coming in, but if we do make it then our strategy should be to get rid of some fringe players like Simic, Favalli, Boriello. And replace them with quality players.

All we need to do next summer if we don't get R10 that is, is to get a good CB, a midfielder, like Sneijder who can practically play anywhere in our midfield even if we want to play a flat 4 he can play out wide on the left. And a striker of Pippo decides to leave, since we already have R9, Gila, Oli and Pippo in this area.

Getting replacement for Pirlo, Seedorf and Gattuso will be hard so we have to be careful about what we do in this area, we've already got Seedorf covered, pirlo will be the hardest, that is if we don't try and tempt Arsenal for Fabregas or Barca for Iniesta.

Except for the part about Galliani I completely agree with you. I never demanded any stupid sudden change. It wouldn't be wise to build up a whole new team because our team has a good chemistry and plays well together. About Sobis: When we failed to sign I was really dissapointed. But as I see it now we made the right choice. I was the most sceptic about Ronaldo, and I still am now, but no can deny that he has done quite a job for our attack. Plus, I never questioned Seedorf! As you say, he's a champion and still an important player for us.
What really bothers me is all that useless oldies like Simic, Favalli etc...not to mention useless players like Borriello.
Why don't players like Aubamayeng never made it to the first squad? He really impressed me in pre-season, so I think he deserves a chance to play alongside R9.

Great post smile.gif

I agree with the majority of it but, IMO the reason Don Silvio hasn't spent recently is because he rates carlo as highly as I do! When he doesn't rate manager he doesn't give them financial backup. Once we get a new manager Don Silvio will get the cheque book out. Don Silvio is the original Ultra cool.gif

Galliani definitely needs to go. He takes far too long in signing players and needs to realise that to buy top players we need to spend money.

carlo also has to go if we're to actually ever win anything. He has had his time with us and we need someone with new ideas.

I totally and utterly agree with you about the contracts. I know that we try to be like a family, but sooner or later we need to let players go.

And as for the Primavera...ask carlo! tongue.gif

IMO there will be changes in the summer, carlo will go as will some of our elder statesmen. Hopefully whoever takes over will be proactive, not reactive like carlo.

i dont think you guys get the urgency of this but sudden changes are necessary. in fact we dont have any choice but to make changes and soon. like i said in roma-milan thread 3/4 of milan are going to be their mid thirties in 2 years, chances are in 2 years 5-6 players are going to be thinking or retiring/finishing their careers with different teams, and we cant forget guys like simic or janku are no legends like maldini or billy, these guys arent going to have much to offer in 2 years. in 2 years 2/3 of our team could be retired or useless so yes sudden changes are going to be happen whether you like it or not.

Then do something about it ... Go burn some flags outside of Milanello.

In all honesty, I believe u r right and anyone's own philosophy, could be right to a certain extent. But u have to accept that Milan's philosophy will remain as it is .. Not to stir something, but that is the hard fact that we all have to live with.

p.s. Milan will always be taken care of
