Ancelotti loses sight of Euro spot

Sunday 11 March, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Carlo Ancelotti concedes that fourth place is going to be very difficult for Milan after their derby defeat.

“We are six points adrift of that Champions League spot. It is not an abyss, but neither will it be easy to reach this goal,” commented the Coach.

The Rossoneri had been leading Inter at half-time with a goal from Ronaldo, but the final score was 2-1.

“In the first half we didn’t allow Inter much room, while after the break we were lacking something in terms of aggression. They took control of the game and we could no longer double up our marking.”

Ancelotti suggests it was also a fitness issue, as the game arrived just days after Celtic took them to extra time in the Champions League.

“Aside from individual incidents, the team was very organised in the opening 45 minutes. We felt the strain from the Celtic match over time and Inter took command.”

Substitute Alberto Gilardino failed to make much of an impact, but Pippo Inzaghi was banished to the stands.

“Having four strikers at my disposal, one of them had to be sacrificed,” shrugged the tactician.

The Rossoneri are currently in sixth place, preceded by Lazio, Palermo and Empoli, while Fiorentina are also in the race for Europe.

“It is true that Milan have not been particularly scintillating this season, so we will have to use other talents at our disposal. I am sure the side will do well. We don’t need to modify our approach. After all, we have the motivation to reach the Final in Athens.”

“Having four strikers at my disposal, one of them had to be sacrificed,” ...

This guy is pathetic.

How is he pathetic ?!

I'm sorry, but u are talking about a coach who has kept Milan at the forfront of all competitions and (even with what has happened to us this season..) is still on course in the CL and on the current Serie A target 4th place.

Sorry. You didn't get it.

I'm talking about the "1 striker" thing... x-mas tree for the 2 derbies... both lost etc etc etc.

“Having four strikers at my disposal, one of them had to be sacrificed,” <- Before a derby, this is ridiculous.

Agreed, the 1 thing i've got to ask is this- what happened to Don Silvio's "we must play with 2 strikers"
is this a sign of his waining power??

we are gonne get 4rth place.

but what matters now is that we lost against Merda and that hurts.

I am really worried about this 4th place. Don't forget Milan still have both Fiorentina(home) and Roma(away) left to face, and Lazio are playing like crazy people right now. I do think this will be a three teams foot race for those last two spots. Lazio, Milan and Viola(Palermo are not a serious contender if you look at their form...)

Call me unfaithful or whatever, but I'm not sure Milan will be able to pull this off.
I can't imagine a season without CL, and I bet Kaká can't either. sad.gif

@ Captain Ambro, don't forget that apart from Roma and Fiorentina we have 'easy game' left (and I use that term losely) Lazio, Fiorentina, Roma and Palermo still have to face eachother. in a way the ties have definately played in our favour. it's up to us not to screw it up now.

The thing that saddened me the most about the derby is that we should have won it in the first half but we couldn't keep up with then after the second because of tiredness. That's the only thing that frustrates me, apart from that I'm happy that we didn't let them outplay us
