Italy defender Marco Materazzi is still waiting for an apology from Zinedine Zidane after his head-butt in the World Cup Final.
“I said sorry when I had to, but there is still someone who hasn’t done the same,†he told GQ magazine.
“I won a World Cup against everybody and I am proud of it. Many people think I am a troublemaker, but they should hear what has been said against me.
“In my life I reacted to a provocation only once and I have paid for it and I said sorry,†added the Inter defender.
“I know what I want in my life and I do my best to get it, but I have never been the ‘evil one’. I didn’t know Zidane had a sister and I publicly apologised to her.
“I didn’t mean to upset Zidane, I was just trying to avoid a goal by holding his shirt and if the referee had seen me it would have been a penalty,†continued Matrix.
“In the last few months I have tried to meet him, but he has rejected my offer. I wanted us to meet in front a photographer who would have taken a picture of him giving me his shirt,†concluded Materazzi.
All attempts at reconciliation between the two players have failed so far. Even FIFA President Sepp Blatter was unable to convince the French ace to apologise and at this stage peace seems unlikely.
