Carlo Ancelotti has pointed out Milan may only have one striker at their disposal for the Champions League encounter with Celtic.
“I really don’t think Alberto Gilardino can recover in time for Tuesday. He still has this knock to his knee that is causing him pain,†warned the Coach after today’s 4-3 win at Siena.
“Tomorrow Pippo Inzaghi will undergo tests and we’ll understand if he can take part in the match or not. We don’t have many options, but whatever happens, there will be 11 of us out there.â€
It’s a heavy blow for the Rossoneri, who cannot count on brace hero Ronaldo, as he is Cup-tied from his participation with Real Madrid.
Marco Borriello is sitting out a ban for failing a random drugs test, so Ricardo Oliveira is the only forward available for the game at Celtic Park.
Nonetheless, the January signing of Il Fenomeno has proved an impressive one, scoring a brace in his first Serie A start for the club.
“He played 90 minutes in great form. There were occasional pauses, as there had to be, but Ronaldo gave a fine performance for him and for us. Everyone knows he’s a champion, but the fact he was able to do so well in such a short space of time was a surprise.
“Ronaldo deserves praise, as it wasn’t an easy choice to come to Milan. He wanted to put himself up for the challenge again and if he did that it’s because he is still motivated. Kaka also impressed and Massimo Ambrosini has unique qualities within this squad.â€
However, there were worrying signs at the Stadio Franchi, as the Rossoneri were leading three times and always let Siena back into the game before Ambrosini’s last-gasp winner.
“I am worried by this aspect,†conceded Ancelotti. “They scored against us with the defence set out, which means the marking was lax. I am convinced that with seven players you can defeat well, as long as they are organised and aggressive. It’s something we have to improve quickly, as against Celtic our defensive strategy will be very important.â€
