Milan goalkeeper Nelson Dida has not yet found an agreement with the club over the extension of his contract, Vice-President Adriano Galliani.
The Brazilian’s contract expires in June 2007 and the club had recently set a deadline, telling the player he needed to make a quick decision on his future as the Rossoneri need to know his intentions to plan any moves on the market.
“I met with Nelson, we spoke with affection and he lowered his demands a little,†said Galliani.
“However, there is still a big difference between his requests and our offer. We have a strict salary policy that cannot be changed. Dida is a top level player, but he cannot earn more than the other champions on our squad.
“We all hope we can reach an agreement soon,†concluded the former Lega Calcio chief
The Brazilian has allegedly asked for a £3.2m per season deal, whereas the Rossoneri are not willing to offer any more than £2.7m.
The Selecao No 1 is currently out of action and will not be back before the New Year after injuring his knee in the Champions League tie with AEK Athens in November.
Should Dida decide to leave the San Siro, Milan have a number of goalkeepers on their wish list, including Livorno’s Marco Amelia, Stefano Sorrentino of AEK Athens and even Juventus’ World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon
