Newly elected Inter President Massimo Moratti has hit out at suggestions that the decision to assign the Nerazzurri last term’s Scudetto was illegitimate.
Milan lawyer Leandro Cantamessa did question the act to hand Juventus’ revoked title on national television at the weekend, a stance which has infuriated Moratti.
“It was a real gaffe – especially when you consider that who said this has juridical knowledge,†said Moratti. “Our Scudetto is more than legitimate and is also a reason for our supporters to be very proud.
“It wasn’t easy to suffer all that we were forced to go through in the past few years and what we must still face now, as the other clubs are complaining that they are victims.
“Some people seem to have forgotten what happened during the summer and the phone interceptions.â€
Cantamessa looked to diffuse the situation on Tuesday as the Lega Calcio official responded to Moratti’s blast.
“Mine was not a gaffe,†he explained. “I only gave a juridical evaluation of the issue, which is different from what President Moratti believes.
“There is no need for him to get angry though as any other technical judgement could be wrong.
“I have an excellent relationship with Moratti, I only have a different opinion from the one of the commission who decided to assign the Scudetto to Inter, there is nothing more than that.â€
Meanwhile, Cantamessa was asked for his view on the decision to suspend referee Tiziano Pieri for two weeks after his controversial performance in the Rossoneri’s 2-0 loss at Atalanta.
“Maybe I was right about Pieri,†added Cantamessa. “Although I never said that his direction on Sunday was scandalous. I am sorry he was suspended.â€
