Didn't know where else to put it.

England B squad for friendly against Albania:

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Manchester United, on loan at Watford)

Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ledley King (Tottenham), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Nicky Shorey (Reading)

Midfielders: Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle), Scott Parker (Newcastle), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Blackburn)

Forwards: Michael Owen (Newcastle), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Manchester United), David Nugent (Preston)

Gareth Barry is under defenders? Let's hope he doesn't play there!

In other news: Paul Jewell resigns as Wigan manager just 24 hours after he saved them from almost certain relegation.BBC

Barry is at left back i think? from what i've seen he's pretty good and has a pretty good shot but i dont think he's played many games for england so unless he's had an amazing season i dont see how he would be a starter for england A. even tho ashley cole has been bellow average they'll probably start him for euro 08 qualifying matches rolleyes.gif IMO bridge should start at LB, he's been great everytime i've seen him and most chelsea fans think he should have start ahead of cole.

Nah, I'm a Villa season ticket holder and he's played left midfield 99% of the time, the other 1% was at centre midfield. So unless I've not been watching properly, he's not a left-back. tongue.gif

Barry has had an amazing season for us. Won fans player and players player of the year, is easily as good as Wayne Bridge, but as usual since he doesn't play for the big 4, he won't even get a look.

Best left-footed English player so why don't we just play him at left-mid, our main problem. We'll never learn rolleyes.gif

Just some Premiership related stuff in the English news today:

Manchester City are lining up Louis van Gaal to replace Stuart Pearce according to the Daily Mirror, although the Daily Mail claims Ronald Koeman is also on the short-list, while the Daily Express is linking City with Gerard Houllier.

The Sun claims the new consortium taking over at City want to install Mark Hughes as the club's new manager.

West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker wants to join Spurs - Daily Mirror.

Carlos Tevez is heading to Real Madrid for £30million and West Ham will not receive a penny of the transfer fee - The Sun.

Phil Jagielka is set to leave Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premiership - Daily Mirror.

West Ham want to land Charlton's Darren Bent for £12million as a replacement for Tevez - Daily Star, although Spurs have also made him top of their wanted list - Daily Express.

Valencia and Juventus are both vying for Newcastle United's want-away star Obafemi Martins - The Sun.

Celtic and Rangers are ready to battle it out for the signature of Robbie Fowler - Daily Mirror.

Watford want to land Arsenal's new keeper Lukasz Fabianski on a year's loan - Daily Mirror.

Manchester City are planning to secure on-loan DaMarcus Beasley's services permanently from PSV - Daily Star.

Sir Alex Ferguson has lost patience with Louis Saha, who is now set to leave Manchester United - Daily Star.

Portsmouth are favourites to land Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka on a free transfer - Daily Mail.

Why the hell would Van Gaal or Koeman want to manage Man City!?

I don't like either team. I hate their fans, both sets are dull, boring and quiet.

They both think they're huge clubs with great histories. (I'll give it to United, but City?)

They both 'cause alot of trouble with the police in all away games they go to, I just think it's sad really.

k i guess his natural position is LM, or maybe thats where villa need him most(thats is at LM), but during previous season he's played LB think and he played LB and LM for england in the same game (i belive against spain). thing is england have so many midfielders so i dont see how he would get a spot(a regular one that is) so the only position i see him starting is LB. hopefully he will get a shot tho.

Originally he started at left-back (Even played the last ever game at Wembley there vs Germany).

Since he became more of a prominant figure in the Villa team he's moved into midfield, not through needing to, we've had a few handy left-sided players of the years. But he's one of the best crossers of the ball in the country, and his 9 goals this season show he's not too shabby at putting the ball in the back of the net either.

lol. No one calls him "Vitorino"... it's just Antunes.

But he's very good and still very young (20). I'd say if he choses the correct club and league (maybe the EPL).
He's 1,75m and 70Kg so... average on that. But many people (I mean, a lot, even the papers) say he'll be the LB of the Portuguese NT in the future.

And from Paços de Ferreira (the 'Reading' of the Portuguese League) it would be a bargain.
He scored a nice FK vs. FCPorto last week: http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...rreira-porto-11

Was a pretty good free-kick, looked like a weird stadium though. huh.gif

Last time Villa bought a Portugese guy it was Fernando Nelson, he was Okay, nothing special though.

If you say he's good, and it seems like you know how well he plays and stuff, then he'd be decent addition to our team. Would give Freddie Bouma some competition at left-back, too. smile.gif

http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=743099&idCanal=39
Aston Villa and Auxerre are really after him. Celta from Spain too.

Fernando Nelson? Dunno. Never heard about.

But yes, he'll be the LB of the NT in some years. Obviously if he signs for Villa he'd need time to adapt, just like Cristiano had in United.
Sometimes they adapt nicely, sometimes... not. But he's a very talented young guy for sure.

I hope he goes to Aston Villa, to the Premiership. cool.gif

Carvalho signs Chelsea deal

Ricardo Carvalho has marked his 29th birthday by signing a new five-year contract with Chelsea.
The Portuguese defender has been an influential figure in the Chelsea back-line since joining from Porto in a £19.85million deal three years ago.

He was among Jose Mourinho's first signings at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

But Carvalho has now ended any doubts about his future by agreeing a deal to stay with the FA Cup finalists until 2012.

The centre-half has made 125 appearances for The Blues and has formed an effective partnership with John Terry in defence.

However, the pairing is unlikely to be in place for Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley due to Carvalho's knee injury.

Carvalho admitted earlier in the week that he needs 'a miracle' to be involved against Premiership champions Manchester United.

His decision to commit his future to the club will be a boost as Chelsea look to persuade Terry and Frank Lampard to sign new contracts

Sky Sports

Wow, that really is superb news for Chelsea.

(P.S. Nottingham Forest played tonight, 2nd leg of their play off semi-final with Yeovil. Forest won the away leg 2-0. A 3-1 defeat at full time sent it into extra time. Yeovil came out the victors with a 5-2 win on the night, 5-4 on aggregate.)

HENRY SAYS AU REVOIR

ARSENAL striker Thierry Henry has told team-mates he is leaving The Emirates this summer.

Henry is furious that vice-chairman David Dein, father of his representative Darren Dein, has left the club and it now seems the Frenchman has decided his own future lies elsewhere.

The Gunners captain met manager Arsene Wenger for showdown talks 10 days ago. He wanted to know who was in line to replace Dein in a director of football role and how long Wenger plans to stay in London.

Henry cannot have got the assurances he was after, however, as he has since told colleagues: “I’m off”.

The news will put Barcelona president Joan Laporta on red alert. Earlier this month, Laporta claimed to have agreed a £15million deal to sign Henry by letting slip in a speech at Stanford University: “I’m closing the signing of Henry.”

Arsenal had been planning for life with Henry after ordering him to return to training two weeks early in order to get fully fit for next term after an injury-plagued season in which he played 27 matches and scored 12 goals.

But his declaration that he is planning to leave could force Wenger to accept a bid of about £20m for the 29-year-old, who is also a long-term target for Real Madrid. Wenger considered his own future after his close friend Dein left the club and could go at the end of next season when his current contract runs out.

His recent demeanour has been described by club insiders as “extremely downbeat” and he is said to be frustrated at having to renegotiate player contracts and meet agents.

Actually, Ballack and Shevchenko werent in Mourinho's team last season or the one before; he just added to an already powerful team.

I doubt this is a victory for any side, United got the big one the EPL and Chelsea got the table scraps ..

The FA Cup is actually more prestigeous with a greater history than the European Cup.

The Carling Cup's not superb, but they still had to beat good teams along the way. Every team in England goes after this trophy now as they know it may be the only one they win, that's why Arsenal and Liverpool try hard to win it nowadays.

2 cups is a good season, 3 great years for Jose, he's more than proven himself. Another double for him.

No Chelsea wasn't owned like United, cuz Chelsea played a mediocre team .. They didn't play AC Milan wink.gif tongue.gif

Seriously though, United don't have a bench wink.gif Whilest Chelsea have a very good one, IMO the best in Europe. Chelsea can go on and continue on a competitive streak with the injuries that u r pointing too. United, if they get CR ( laugh.gif laugh.gif ) injured, that would be the end of their dream of an EPL title, CL final birth, or any of the two local cups. That is for sure.

So in that sense, I disagree that Chelsea were handicapped by their injuries. In anycase, what is done is done. I still believe Chelsea had enough potential to reach the CL final and win the EPL, but those two cups rolleyes.gif
