AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino has warned that the goals are on their way and should hopefully rain down on Champions League qualifying opponents Red Star Belgrade next Wednesday.

"We are preparing very well and training with the right level of intensity because we know we are waiting for a game in which we will have to be at our best," he told Milan's own TV channel.

"There are no worries, the goals are coming."

Milan hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the San Siro and have one foot in the group stage of the Champions League, but Italy World Cup winner Gilardino is under no illusions that the job is already done.

He said: "We need to give it all our effort, determination and attention because this really is the biggest game of the season.

"We want to achieve a lot in the Champions League this season, but to have any hope of doing so, we have got to deal with this important meeting with Belgrade."

Gilardino has only been in training for a few weeks and admits to not yet feeling at 100%, but he refuses to accept the criticism levelled at him after he failed to make an impact in the first leg.

"I may not be at my very best at the moment - the legs never are working as they should be at the start of pre-season, but I only know one way of getting to top form and that is to work really hard in training," he added.

"I understand that it may look like I am not so good right now, but I think that is only normal at this stage and I think it is a bit too early to start making judgements."

IMO Gila is never a zero. He always has something to offer.

He'll develop further.

He needs to step it up in the CL. We need him to blossom and make things happen.

gila scored 17 goals in serie a last year as our number 2 striker, thats not bad at all, he is a WORLD CHAMP, and he has still not reached his full potential! He IS and WILL BE a star for us!!!

Exactly, how much did Rooney score for Man U last season? 16? And over their they consider him the new wonder kid and he plays in the premiership not in serie A, and Gila scored 1 more then him +2 in the Coppa Italia for us and a lot of people are already labeling him a flop, sure he didn't score for us in the CL, but you also have to look at it as incredible bad luck for him because the number of times he hit the post last season in the CL AND even in the SERIE A could make you laugh if it wasn't so frustrating.

We just need to give him time, I'm sure his CL duck will be broken soon and even if it is not this season, if he gets a 20+ goal season in the league I still won't complain. Either way if he can't score this season in the CL we still have Pippo to pound them in so no problems for now
