AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Archive 06/07 _ Madrid Get Priority Over Boca Pearls

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Dec 27 2006, 01:36 AM

Boca Juniors President Mauricio Macri has confirmed that the long Gago negotiations with Real Madrid have also had a spin-off success. The Merengues have sealed a preferential deal for young centre-backs Matías Cahais and Jonatan Maidana as well as midfielder Ever Banega.

"If any other club presents an offer for any of the three players Real Madrid will have the right to equal the offer and purchase the player first", explained Macri. Cahais, Maidana and Banega are the three leading lights but Madrid also has an eye cocked up front.

Rather than current goalgetter Rodrigo Palacio the glances aren’t towards an established star but rather a burgeoning promise. The player in question is one Óscar Trejo, who has already been the subject of several spotter reports now filed at the Bernabéu.

Pedja Mijatovic has been trying to impose a new strategy whereby the White House targets rising stars like Gago and Higuaín. The idea is to nab the players before their prices go through the roof and, if necessary, loan them out to other clubs or B team Castilla.

What is desired is to control the star player market before signings reach 20 or 30 million Euros. What remains to be seen is which players make the 2007 transition into star buys and start to attract Euro-interest - and if Madrid will call any offers and snap them up next year or in 2008.

Boca Junior’s Pearls

Maidana

Age: 21
Position: Centre-Back
Full Name: Jonatan Maidana
POB: Buenos Aires
DOB: 29/07/1985
Previous Club: Los Andes.
Height: 1.83m.

In the recently contested – and sadly lost – Apertura he played six games, four of which as part of the starting eleven. His heroes and role models are Zaragoza’s Milito and Valencia’s Ayala, Maidana is taller than ‘El Raton’ but gifted with a similar sparky speed. He made his debut in the 2-2 draw with São Paulo at Morumbi that crowned Boca as world leader in number of continental trophies.

Banega

Age: 18
Position: Centre-Half / Midfield
Full Name: Ever Banega
POB: Rosario
DOB: 29/06/1988
Height: 1.82m.
Number: 32

The talented centre-half made his official Boca debut in a May friendly against Maccabi Tel Aviv although he’s yet to make his debut in competitive action with the first team. Many see him as the natural heir to Real Madrid’s Gago and there’ll be a chance to see him playing in the upcoming under-20 matches with Argentina.

Trejo

Age: 18
Position: Centre-Forward
Full Name: Óscar Guido Trejo
POB: Santiago del Estero
DOB: 26/04/1988
Height: 1.80m.

Basile saw the young gun’s high potential and gave him his debut nod with Boca at 17 years of age. A tournament in Costa Rica started chins wagging about the player’s future star status and Sevilla are also following the forward with an eye to a buy.

Cahais

Age: 19
DOB: 24/12/1987
POB: Morón, Buenos Aires
Height: 186 cm.
Weight: 75 Kg.
Position: Centre-Back
Full Name: Matías Cahais
Number: 22

A strong and tall centre-back more suited for the rocky pillar role rather than his ability to man-mark well. His physique led to an early debut, Cahais playing his debut as a 16 year-old. He played a total of three games in the recent Apertura including the final let-down against Estudiantes and is seen as a future defensive chief.

What's the problem? ManUtd have a kind of "first option" over all the youngsters in Sporting Lisbon (Nani, Moutinho, etc) since they bought Cristiano... so what?

Madrid paid $$$ for that. Boca accepted... it's done.

(I think you should put this under Football Forum, not in Milan news)

No no no dude, you got it wrong. What I wanted to say is that THIS is not Milan news. So it should be in Football Discussion. wink.gif

Anyway, m1key or some other from the staff will take care of it.

It's pretty common usually with small teams. Big club pays $$ to the small club and then have first option for their players.

Aha .. So it is normal, huh .. unsure.gif .. Still I find it kind of stupid, cuz Madrid can only field 3 non-euro players at a time, so why not go for a european club like Chelsea or Arsenal do in Holland and Belgium .. What Madrid are doing is taking these young players and trading them ... That's the way it sounds to me .. Cuz, these players they are going for r young, by the time they mature, Madrid would probably sell them for 3x their actual price.

That is where I got confused .. That is where I drew a line, that they r worse than Chelsea.

The players are not from Madrid yet. They just have the 'first option' for them. If they want them, they'll pay Boca good money.
