It will depend on the result of the game against Lazio but I think we'll win AEK in the end!!!

Hmm, Milan will only have played Lazio right? I think a slow start, 1-1 or something like that. Must win this group though, if we dont we have SERIOUS problems.

I think it will be a big win. 3:0 Pippo 2 , Seedorf

C'mon, I bet AEK is even weaker than Red Star. 3-0 my prediction.

I never actually saw them play but they are probably better prepared since we would only have 3 competitave matches under our belts, I say 2-0 or maybe 2-1 because our defence is still very fragile with all of our central defenders who are starters are coming from injuries. And our attack is still not fine-tuned enough for them to start scoring freely.

i think it will be 3-0 pipo, kaka, oliveira

Well I've been hearing that they have been creating a lot of chances but not being able to score any of them, that's why they keep getting draws.

I don't know though, this is just what I've been hearing about them from other boards.

I really hope this happens since our defence still is out of it, it's good that we don't have to face anyone with clinical finishers right now.

I would like to see someone from our attack score 5 on them in a row (I hope it could be Gila, but that is just asking way too much of him and I don't think that he will even play) and if this happens one of our players will piss all over ES's record which is something I want to see.

Right!! I like it ... people are informed ... AEK are indeed incapable of shooting on goal!!!
BUT they created those chances against PAOK (a team the players of which are not getting payed and do not have a sponsor on their jersyes yet - all because of economical problems ), OFI ( a team that barely survived relegation and signed quite a few "unpromising" players and ... Akratitos ( in English it means 'unstoppable' but they have never and will never be such especially when a hundred people is the maximum you're ever going to see in their home matches ... )
Oh yes ... AEK played in the 3rd qual. round against Hearts as well ... against which they
rarely created a chance and did not score before the Soctch were left with 10 and 9 men in the first and second tie respectively ...

... just show them what San Siro is made of!!!! devil.gif

Ok this is great, maybe the five goals for one player is not much of a stretch. I think Pippo can surely do it if they are as bad as you say.

Btw what the hell kind of mess is your domestic league in?? I might have said that in my country football is really bad, but at least the players get paid. In all of the clubs!!!

Well, he didn't impress me cause I knew him before and I knew what he is capable of. As for Altafini, he said he also knew him before, so... But he's probably impressed because of his personality and that he scored just after 8 minutes from his entrance.

Wasn't Rino suspeneded?

But you're right, and from what I'm hearing about the match, Pirlo didn't do anything special either.

And these players have to play another game tomorrow. I think Gourcuff should have come in for Pirlo in the Lazio game. We can't afford for Pirlo to get burned out again with fatigue like last season, he is too vital.

Maybe he should be rested tomorrow, against AEK, as dst has been saying they are not good so we don't need a full strength team. And the games will get tougher as the season progresses and when that time comes we will need a Pirlo at 100%

Rino was suspended ofcourse but even in Paris he looked exhausted!!!

I think Pirlo should start so that the good start will be safely sealed ... Gourcuff could come later in the game!!!

Do not underestimate AEK ... they got nothing to lose in this game; when you got nothing to lose you play with no fear ... and that is what concerns me the most; then again the quality level is too low; we must kill the game in an instance!!!

You're right. But at least Pirlo should be rested in some not so important games. Parma don't look as strong as last season, so I would rest Pirlo then. Because when he is off-form he is still no use to us and it's better if he doesn't play because he starts to lose the ball in dangerous places

My formation fo this game would be something like this

Cafu--Nesta--Maldini--Janku (I removed the winger tongue.gif )
--Gattuso---Pirlo---Seedorf--
--------------Kaka-------------
-----Gila/Pippo--Oliveira-----

I think Gila shoul be given the nod for this game, this is his golden opportunity to break his duck, and if somehow that doesn't happen and we need a goal, then Pippo should be brought in.

Posted by: fresh_prince7 Sep 12 2006, 04:11 PM

You'd like to think this will be a formality and milan will take 3 points from this game. Hopefully we can keep the clean sheet and score at least 3 goals.

I'm hoping we see the defensive line: bonera nesta kaladze jankulovski
in the future

If oliveira is fit, I think he should start with gila. From what I've seen of oli, my first impressions were he could be a real threat in europe, due to the open space for through balls and long runs. I'm expecting to see some good exchanges between oli, kaka' and pirlo.

QUOTE
Ancelotti aware of AEK danger

This may be Carlo Ancelotti's sixth season in charge of AC Milan but his desire to win has not diminished with the passage of time. Ahead of the Rossoneri's opening Group H encounter with AEK Athens FC on Wednesday the coach made it abundantly clear just how important he considers the UEFA Champions League, saying simply: "It's our main objective."

European love affair
Milan's love affair with the UEFA Champions League is such that their name has become synonymous with the competition. Only Real Madrid CF have won more European Champion Clubs' Cups and a glance at the Italian giants' performance in the tournament over the last five years pays testament to their coach. In that time Milan have reached the final twice, winning it in 2003, and the semi-finals and quarter-finals on one further occasion each.

'Dangerous ground'
However, Ancelotti has not got this far by underestimating his opposition, and was quick to contradict suggestions that a group containing AEK, LOSC Lille Métropole and RSC Anderlecht would be straightforward for the six-time winners. "You're on dangerous ground if you think things will be easy," said Ancelotti. "AEK may be little-known but it is the lesser-known sides that can spring surprises. We need to respect them the same way we do the bigger clubs. What's more, having played only one league match so far this season some clubs are fitter than us. They will be up for the fight and so must we be."

Winning start
Unlike their Greek counterparts, who have mustered draws in their first three league matches, Milan got their Serie A campaign off to a winning start by overcoming S.S. Lazio 2-1 on Sunday. Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini returned to central defence after injury and Ancelotti refused to blame their lack of match sharpness for the Lazio goal, saying: "That wasn't a result of individual errors, the whole team got stretched. We need to be careful of counterattacks and get back quicker. This is a tournament we want to win and we can't afford to get off to a bad start."

First victory
Although underdogs, AEK also have no intention of starting the competition inauspiciously, even if they are still seeking their first UEFA Champions League victory after 18 games in the competition. The Greek outfit will take to the field with a positive attitude, according to their coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer: "My players must only have one thing in mind and that's winning. Things can always change during the course of a match and we're playing a good side."

'Nothing to lose'
Serra Ferrer is without Ifeanyi Udeze due to a knee injury but refuses to be downbeat. "My hand is forced with the suspension to Nikolaos Georgeas and the Udeze injury but we're still going to give it our best shot. I wouldn't say that we have nothing to lose because there is always something to play for but we certainly aren't under the same pressure as Milan and there is no reason why we shouldn't give them a run for their money."

Probable lineups
Milan: Dida; Cafu, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Serginho; Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Kaká; Alberto Gilardino, Filippo Inzaghi.

AEK: Stefano Sorrentino; Martin Pautasso, Traianos Dellas, Bruno Cirillo, Stavros Giorgiopoulos; Emerson, Evangelos Moras, Vladimir Ivić; Júlio César, Nikolaos Lyberopoulos, Panagiotis Lagos.

Milan keen to get back to business

There have been few more difficult summers in the history of AC Milan than the one just past but the UEFA Champions League traditionally brings out the best in the Italian giants, and they will be looking to get off to a good start when they take on AEK Athens FC at the San Siro on Matchday 1.

• Finishing runners-up in Serie A would normally guarantee an automatic ticket to the UEFA Champions League group stage but a 30-point reduction for Milan's part in a sports tribunal case saw them relegated to third position. That put Carlo Ancelotti's men in the third qualifying round for Europe's premier club competition where they edged past FK Crvena Zvezda 3-1 on aggregate, with Filippo Inzaghi on target in each game.

Home comforts
• Six-time winners of the European Champion Clubs' Cup, Milan will be hoping to recapture their impressive home form in the competition. Ludovic Giuly's smart finish for FC Barcelona in last season's semi-final first leg, the only goal of the tie, spoiled a run of 12 wins in 13 home games.

• They have also been robust starters in each of the last four UEFA Champions League seasons - winning their opening fixture in each case and going on to top the group.

Past meetings• Milan faced AEK in the group stage of the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League - the teams have not met in the intervening 12 years and neither have Milan faced any opposition from Greece in that time - when they followed a 0-0 away draw with a 2-1 win in a game that took place in Trieste.

• It continued Milan's sequence of never having lost to Greek sides in UEFA competition. In the each of their previous three ties with Greek opposition to date, over the two games the Rossoneri have won at home and drawn away.

AEK task
• This is AEK's third UEFA Champions League campaign in five seasons and Lorenzo Serra Ferrer's team will be hoping to record their first ever victory in the competition in Milan. In a total of 18 games so far their record reads ten draws and eight defeats.

• On their last visit to Italy the Greek league runners-up managed to hold AS Roma to a 1-1 draw in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League – the only time they have ever come away from the country with a result after six previous defeats.

I agree to rest Kaka' and Pirlo. Nesta too.

AEK should not be a big problem for those 11.

Is Kaladze injured or something becuase noones mentioning him. I think we could rest Maldini here since his situation will always be precarious. Cafu's attacking bite could be useful. I think I'd go with this

-------------------------Dida---------------------

Cafu---------Bonera---------Nesta-------Kaladze(if avail, then Serg)

--------Gattuso------Pirlo------Seedorf--------

-------------------Gourcuff------------------------

-------------Gila--------------Olivera

I too fancy giving Gila the chance to get some confidence here in CL, we know Pippo is one of the most reliable strikers in Europe still, and obviously Olivera will need to become well acquainted with European football quickly.

Kaladze is still injured and won't be available for the next 15 days. I'm pretty sure our defence will be as I mentioned above, though I don't know who Carlo will choose for the midfield (Kakà or Gourcuff) and the attack.

QUOTE
Milan cruised to a deserved 3-0 victory over AEK Athens in their opening UEFA Champions League Group H encounter at San Siro.

Filippo Inzaghi extended his incredible scoring record in the tournament by heading Milan ahead on 17 minutes, and young Frenchman Yann Gourcuff added a second header just before half time to put Milan in control.

AEK wasted two glorious chances from free headers from their rare forays forward and the excellent Kaka sealed a 3-0 victory with his second half penalty as Milan put all the controversy about their inclusion in the tournament behind them with a commanding start to the campaign.

Milan, as expected, started strongly, but AEK had a real chance to earn a shock lead in the 14th minute when Andrija Delibasic rose in between two defenders to meet Stavros Giorgiopoulos' inviting cross, only to plant his close-range header straight at Dida when he should have scored.

New Milan signing Ricardo Oliveira was also guilty of wasting a good headed chance at the far post after Gennaro Gattuso had headed back across goal on 16 minutes.

Milan did make a header count a minute later as veteran defender Paolo Maldini, making his 97th Champions League appareance, swung in a sumptuous cross from the left which Inzaghi made no mistake in burying past Stefano Sorrentino from eight yards out.

AEK skipper Traianos Dellas produced some superb last ditch defending to get the ball just ahead of Inzaghi after Cafu had typically marauded down the right and tried to find Inzaghi.

The prolific Italian was causing all sorts of problems and he broke free down the right on 38 minutes but his cross was too high for the unmarked Oliveira who could not keep his header down.

Milan did profit from the space left down the right by the Greeks and Kaka this time profited and was able to produce a fine cross for Gourcuff at the back post and the young Frenchman converted the chance with a powerful header.

Julio Cesar fired a warning for Milan not to get too comfortable just before half time when he stepped in from the left to fire a shot goalwards which Dida had to beat away.

Milan showed no signs of resting on their two-goal advantage at the start of the second half and Inzaghi again went close with a header within a minute of the restart.

Kaka connected beautifully with a bicycle kick to volley a Cafu cross goalwards but unfortunately for him it was straight at Sorrentino who punched it away from goal.

The AEK goalkeeper was a busy man and he was forced to punch away again on 66 minutes when Inzaghi yet again found space in the box to get his head to another Cafu cross.

Despite not really being in the game, the visitors could have been level had they taken their second glorious chance of the match as Vladimir Ivic fluffed a free header from no more than six yards out just 16 minutes from time.

The game was well and truly over two minutes later when referee Mike Riley awarded Milan a penalty for a Vaggelis Moras foul on Inzaghi - allowing Kaka to slot home a deserved goal for the talented Brazilian.

AEK had a late chance from a free kick to grab their first Champions League goal in six matches but it was not to be and Milan cantered to a deserved victory.

Milan ease to opening success

First-half headers from Filippo Inzaghi and Yoann Gourcuff and a late Kaká penalty gave AC Milan an encouraging start to their UEFA Champions League campaign as they overcame Group H opponents AEK Athens FC with a dominant display.

Vintage Milan
The Rossoneri faithful were given a taste of Milan's new and old vintage as 33-year-old Inzaghi registered his 35th UEFA Champions League goal in the 17th minute of the match while the 20-year-old Gourcuff headed in his first four minutes before half-time. Kaká capped an exemplary performance by slotting in the third goal with 13 minutes remaining after Inzaghi had been wrestled to the floor. The result leaves AEK still looking for their first UEFA Champions League win after 19 matches, a record they will attempt to end at home to RSC Anderlecht on Matchday 2, when Milan visit LOSC Lille Métropole.

Early exchanges
The match came to life after ten minutes when Milan's summer signing Gourcuff - deputising for the rested Andrea Pirlo - set the tone for what was to be a memorable full debut with a slide-rule pass into the path of Gennaro Gattuso, whose shot was palmed away by the onrushing Stefano Sorrentino. The AEK goalkeeper had promised before the match that his side would not sit back and so it proved two minutes later when Andrija DelibaÅ¡ić directed Stavros Giorgiopoulos's cross straight at Dida.

In-form Inzaghi
The visitors were let off the hook, though, when Oliveira also squandered an aerial opportunity on the quarter-hour, guiding Gattuso's cushioned header wide from six metres out, but Inzaghi was not so generous two minutes later. Sorrentino could only stand and watch as Paolo Maldini's left-wing cross was met by the Italian international striker, who planted a pinpoint header into the top corner of the net from ten metres out.

Debut goal
Inzaghi showed another side to his game five minutes before half-time as he did his best to play in his strike partner Oliveira with a cross from the right flank which was a fraction too high for the South American, and instead it was another debutant who got on the scoresheet in the next attack. This time the damage was done down the Milan right, Kaká racing on to Dario Å imić's searching pass before picking out Gourcuff at the far post with a deep cross, and the Frenchman's firm downward header left Sorrentino helpless again.

Kaká gloss
The Greek side pressed forward after the break in an effort to get back into the match and but for a timely interception from Å imić, DelibaÅ¡ić might have pulled a goal back within five minutes. Milan, though, continued to find space down the right and Kaká came close to converting Cafu's centre with a spectacular overhead kick, forcing Sorrentino to palm over. The Italian goalkeeper then kept out another close-range header from Inzaghi and eventually the pressure paid off as Inzaghi was wrestled to the ground by Evangelos Moras and Kaká converted the resulting penalty. The Brazilian and Inzaghi missed further late opportunities, but Milan will nevertheless be well satisfied with their evening's work.

Great, great, great game. I'm very satisfied. We conceded nearly nothing to AEK, and could have scored 2-3 other goals. Can't decide about the man of the match, it's either Gourcuff or Kakà. By the way, Gourcuff was superb tonight. Never thought he was that good. Forza ragazzi, forza Pippo, FORZA MILAN! devilsmiley.gif

My ratings are

Dida: 7 - All in all a good game, even though he didn't do much, but he made 2 great saves. I'm a little worried about his fumbling with the ball though. I hope he straightens that out.

Cafu': 6.5 - He played a great game today, good in defence and made some great runs and crosses.

Simic: 5 - Made some good interceptions, but the guy needs to learn how to pass the ball. I can't count the number of times he tried to pass the ball back to the midfield but instead it went straight to an AEK player.

Maldini: 8 - In the beginning of the match I thought he was going to struggle and he did make some mistakes especially that challenge which got him the yellow. But as the game wore on he was making great interceptions and was sometimes even playing the LB role, since Favalli was asleep. Plus he made a great assist to Pippo.

Favalli: 1 - I didn't even notice if he was playing or not, as I said before Maldini was doing more work in that LB role then he was, Janku should definately get the nod before him, he did more then Favalli did in 10 minutes then Favalli did in a whole game, plus Janku is more solid.

Gourcuff: 10 - Just want to say, WOW!!! Great touches, great crosses and set-pieces, great chemistry with Kaka and Oliveira and great goal. And he made that amazing through pass to Rino in the beginning, I can already see that we have something special on our hands here, Seedorf better watch out because he might do a Kaka and push him to the bench

Brocchi: 6.5 - He impressed me today, he made some great interceptions, plus he was also helping out in the attack. Great game.

Gattuso: 7.5 - All in all a good game by him, he missed a great chance, but scoring goals isn't really his speciality.

Kaka: 8.5 - A stellar performance by our main man, he was deservedly MOM for this one, and what a great over-head kick he did, it's a shame it didn't go in, he would have gotten the goal of the tournament prize again if that had gotten in.

Oliveira: 6 - Took a bit of time to get into the match, but he put in a lot of work, especially when picking up the ball in the midfield and passing it on to the wings so someone can cross it in to Pippo. He didn't play as good as in the Lazio game, but that is to be expected since he is trying to get match fit.

Inzaghi: 8 - Another vintage Pippo performance. There is nothing to say about him really.

Carlo: 8.5 - It was clear that he had everything planned out perfectly for this match. And I was a bit surprised that he rested all those starters, but it was a good choice by him. I'm glad that he didn't play Pirlo and Gila the most, it was clear in the Lazio game that the match against France took a lot out of them, so it's a good thing that those 2 where rested, hopefully Carlo will play Gila next to Oli on Sunday, so we can get to see what they can do with eachother. Because I have a feeling that they will make a great combination.

It looked like we where playing a friendly match out there, everyone was taking it really easy.

I think you just missed a bit here...Gourcuff was great, and if you consider he was a debutant, then a 10 is maybe deserved. Still I would hand him 8.5-9.
But with Favalli you are pretty wrong and harsh. He was there, I saw him!! biggrin.gif
No, really, he started some actions, passed some other times the ball nice and quick. Course, his *** was fully covered by Maldini, but a 1 - that`s simply to harsh. If Å imić is on 5.5, Fav should be a 5.5-6... king.gif

Ok fine, I'll give him a 2.5, but that is the max wink.gif . He was just not doing anything, the only passes he made where mostly misplaced. Janku should be miles ahead of him in the pecking order I don't really know why he wasn't playing.

What a night...what a start!!!! Milan wins 3:0, Inter shine once again in their best light, and Real Madrid stays embaressed in France. QUOTE (Portugal @ Sep 14 2006, 01:26 AM)
Ancelotti thrilled by Gourcuff debut

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti paid tribute to two of his latest signings as well as an older star as goals from Filippo Inzaghi and Yoann Gourcuff - on his full debut - and a late Kaká penalty gave his team a 3-0 win against AEK Athens FC in Group H. It was a masterful performance and AEK coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer admitted his charges were powerless to stop the Rossoneri.

Carlo Ancelotti, Milan coach
It's always great for a coach to see a player as young as Yoann Gourcuff with such a mature attitude. He has been a big surprise, even for me. I didn't know him so well but the club have made a great signing. He will continue to improve and has had a memorable [UEFA Champions League] debut; we're really happy with him. We had a difficult time in qualifying but I think this brought the squad together. Ricardo Oliveira has only been here for a few days but he is settling in very well. He is trying to forge an understanding with his team-mates, especially Inzaghi, who is in great form. He has always been a great finisher but in the last few matches he has been extraordinary.

Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, AEK coach
I talked to the team a lot after the game but I can't complain too much. You can do many things but you can't alter the strength of your opponents. However, I am very happy to take part in this great competition. It will give us experience, especially in terms of facing one of the best teams in Europe. We tried to disrupt their possession and did that quite well but lacked the necessary composure to find the best way to trouble them in defence.

Kaka enjoys show of strength
by Richard Aikman

Kaká recently likened AC Milan to a Ferrari Formula 1 car and the Brazilian helped justify that comparison by putting in a man-of-the-match performance in a 3-0 victory against AEK Athens FC which saw the Rossoneri race to the top of Group H.

Bright start
In the absence of the seasoned Andrea Pirlo and Clarence Seedorf the onus was on Kaká to drive his team forward, and the 24-year-old rose to the occasion with a mature and inspired performance. Speaking exclusively to uefa.com, the playmaker said: "We had fun tonight. In the past we have struggled to make a good start to the season but this year we've started well straight away and that's vital if we are to have a good campaign."

'Credit'
As well as setting up the second goal for Yoann Gourcuff and almost scoring with a spectacular scissor-kick, he also added a third from the penalty spot. "I know what my responsibilities are for Milan and I welcome them. I know that they will increase as the years go by. I think the contributions of those who stepped in to play were very important. It certainly wasn't easy out there but we made it seem that way. The players deserve the credit for that."

Gourcuff praise
One such player was Gourcuff, a 20-year-old Frenchman who also served notice of his prodigious talent with a fine display capped by a goal on his full debut. "Gourcuff is a great player," Kaká continued. "He is very intelligent and it was great that he settled into the side so quickly and scored a UEFA Champions League goal." For Milan supporters so saddened by the summer departure of Andriy Shevchenko there is clearly a silver lining; in Kaká the future lies in good hands.

yeah he was good I think tongue.gif too bad he didn't score that scissor kick!!!

The best thing from last night was ofcourse Yoann and his mixture with the great Ricky!!
But guys don't get too excited ... we know that AEK are really weak!!! This is going to be a tough season; ofcourse I hope for some more rotation in the CL matches so that we ease it up!!! biggrin.gif We must prepare Pirlo for the knockout stages!!! devil.gif and bring the Big Ear back home!!!!

I think it was a normal victory
MILAN even with 2nd team players like Simic ,Brocchi and Gourcuff(what an excelent miedfielder)has won easily this match
There was a result that i was happy about lyon - real 2-0

I see that they give penalty for free against Celtic not only in Torino but in Manchester too
And in Hamburg Arsenal has scored from a penalty that was a gift from the referee +a bonus -Hamburg goalkeeper was red card it
Instead of making stupid statements refering to the fact that MILAN is playing in CL ("other teams will watch MILANs behaviour in this competiton") they better look into their own garden because is full of s-it

Oh I forgot ... Favalli was not bad ... we know he's the third choice for the LB position and overall he was very good; that is defensively mostly because he's kinda useless in attack!!! tongue.gif

Well done!
Great performance by Gourcuff and Oliveira
I'm really happy for Gourcuff, he is an incredible player
To be honest i didn't expect him to play that well
In fact i was surprised that he was in the first 11!!
He still needs some time to improve, but for a debut in CL he did great!
Great job from Kaka and Pippo too

Pippo keep scoring....

I don't think Milan even stepped into third gear for this match, they where playing like it was a training session. If they wanted to they could have scored 3 more on AEK.

btw Brocchi was great in this match an he deserved the standing ovation from the fans. king.gif

Brocchi plays with heart like Rino. He gives everything on the field. I remember nearly the end, before he was going to change with Ambro, he was still running and fighting like a crazy, like the match had just started for him. Oh, and he became dad a couple of days ago. Grande Christian! king.gif

I'm so confused. I couldn't watch Milan's game. I already read whole this topic, to find out who was playing how.

Nice win. Very pitty again Gilardino didn't play, soo... couldn't score, though it's very nice to see Pipo on fire again. I see the article in the news section tells the truth... so

Let's go MILAN

Hello !

Does anyone know where I could find a video, or at least a photo, of Gila and Pippo's hug during the Champions League match against AEK Athens ?

Grazie !
