The 36-year-old is out of contract in the summer and although he was offered an extension, he’s decided to terminate his Rossoneri adventure. “This has been my last season with Milan,” he stated on Thursday. “I’m leaving. We’re playing at high levels and if I no longer feel important then I’d prefer to stay at home. “I took this decision when I was feeling in good shape. I’ve won a lot but out of respect for the club and myself, I would like to go and try a different experience where I will be able to do something good. “I made my choice in February. The club offered me a new one-year deal, but I decided that I didn’t want it.” Rumours suggest that the 2006 World Cup winner will end up in the MLS with New York Red Bulls. “I don’t know where I will be playing next season because I haven’t signed anything,” continued the 2002 capture from Lazio. “I’ll go and play where the tempo is lower. An experience in America wouldn’t be bad, it’ll be a great adventure.” The centre-back has won honours galore at San Siro and he’ll have fond memories of his time with the Italian giants. “Carlo Ancelotti was the most important Coach in my career,” he added. “He was perfect. Winning the Champions League for the first time was the best memory. “I’ll miss the people at Milanello who have been here on a daily basis for the last 10 years. I’ll also leave behind historic friendships with Massimo Ambrosini, Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo, Christian Abbiati, Paolo Maldini – people who I have a bond with.” Nesta is one of 10 players with expiring contracts and he’s suggested that he won’t be the only high profile exit before the start of next term. “I leave Milan disappointed because we wanted to win the championship and could have. “I don’t know what the future will hold for Milan because there will be a group of players leaving. What he says there at the end makes me feel like I'm 50. I don't like the Milan of Ibras and Boatengs and Muntari's all that much to be honest. And if I don't follow Milan then I don't follow football... Shame, it used to be such a great sport.

Wow... Some dramatic emotions are boiling inside of me right now... I didn't know this was gonna hit me so hard. I'm so thankful to him. When people like Maldini, Costacurta and Nesta were on the pitch, it was never about the numbers or the technical stuff for me, it was all about the SHOWDOWN. These guys provided us with such feelings that will surely go down in the history of this sport as something truly unique. If aliens decided to show up here, and wanted to understand what defending is all about in football, I would point at Nesta and say: ---> This. This guy is defending. He is the best Center Back the world has ever seen. Something that the John Terrys, Vidices and Thiag Silva's of now can't even comprehend.

He's one of the last gentleman's, true captains leaving. It's very sad, I can't remember such a dramatic parting in recent history. Sure, Billy's farewell or Paolo's were moving, but this is a collective exodus. The Milan they'll leave behind is nothing compared to the one they played for.
It won't be the same without them. We'll need much time to get to their level, not in terms of success or trophies, but in terms of class. |

I thought he was retiring. I can't understand why he's leaving if he can still play. He's a club legend and I have nothing bad to say about him, but why is he intending to join a new club?
That seems a bit of a shame. |
