Milan striker Alberto Gilardino is sure he will take other penalties, despite failing to convert the last one during Sunday’s match with Torino.

The Rossonero had insisted on taking the penalty himself, but fired it into the upright and was then unable to net the rebound, preventing Milan from taking the lead.

“When you decide to take a penalty you follow your instinct, in that moment I felt I should take it even if Marek Jankulovski was the player designated to do so,” Gilardino told Sky Italia.

“I spoke with Marek and asked him if I could take it and there were no problems at all. I did not have a chance to speak to Coach Carlo Ancelotti after the match, but I spoke briefly with Jankulovski after we returned to the locker rooms.”

“As I said, these things must be lived instinctively, so there really isn’t much to say. Would I take one again? Of course, I took several penalties when I was at Parma and things always went well.

“Anyone can make a mistake, the fact is that this happened in a special moment of the season, three points were important for us and the penalty could have been decisive,” explained the World Cup winner.

“I think a player must do what he feels like doing on the pitch and his choices must be respected. I felt like taking it, I did so and I failed. I will take one again if there will be another chance and my teammates will let me,” concluded Gilardino.

Pirlo is also known to miss a few.

The best choice is always Kaka, even when Sheva was still with us

I feel sorry for Gila because of this miss. And I wish that if we where going to miss it, that it wouldn't have hit the post but just went straight out. We don't need to add to this post 'desease'

Still why pirlo when you have almost a 100% chance of conversion when Kaka would take it?

Pirlo is our secong choice, Gila is the third. I still don't know how Gila missed that, he never missed from the spot he had a 100% success rate. It's just strange that he would miss, especially by hitting the damn post. Again I think it's the magnets in the balls (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I was certain that Gila was our third choice? Last season he was even the second. He scored a pen when Sheva wasn't playing but Pirlo was.

Anyway. I think everyone should move on from this, it's not the first time a player has missed a penalty and it certainly won't be the last.

Well maybe it's just the ones in San Siro, since we managed to score 2 against Cagliari and not hit the post once.

And we hit the post at home twice as much as we hit it away from home

I think this calls for the revival of the posts thread! I'm going to go and update it right now

Yes I think u should ..

Man I can't believe it !!! How can u miss a penalty (obviouslly, some u score some u miss, but ..) ... When it is crucial that we need to squeeze as much points as we can !! Why did he have to take it ! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Every single time I remember, I go back and check it again .. I get pissed all over again.

Gila has a lot of responasbility o his shoulders, something he hasnt been accustomed to .. I just hope he matures soon and doesnt take this miss too hard on himself ... (If I was him, I'd commit suicide !!!!)

We will out score probably half of the serie A team with the number of times we hit the posts this season.

Man, the guy had to carry Parma practically all by himself for 2 seasons. I think that's called pressure. Especially when you're a 22 year old.

And a LOT of players miss CRUCIAL (much more crucial) penalties then this. Istanbul anyone? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I mean I would consider those a lot more crucial then this one and they where missed.

Parma? I already stated this n another thread .. He didnt have much pressure to deliver there, than he did here ... Sure he was their tailsman, but at Milan, the board and fans demand CL success and Serie A as well, at Parma, what do they demand (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Istanbul !!!! Did u have to go there han (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

They might not demand CL and Serie A success but they demand that they stay in Serie A, different kind of pressure, but still pressure. If he didn't do well in either of those seasons then Parma would have had to say goodbye to Serie A. I think that is pressure enough for a guy his age.

And if not istanbul, then how about Old Trafford, happy memories, but still some of our players missed crucial penalties that could have saw us lose the whole thing. Pressure or not, penalties get missed, some miss a penalty when the team is 4 goals up so it doesn't matter and these same players miss crucial penalties when it's crunch time. saying that he shouldn't have missed it because it was crucial isn't relevant imo
