I hope Hamburg will do it, they've shown a very good development during the last few years, especially last season. They've got some good young players like van der Vaart, de Jong, Atouba, Boulahrouz, Kompany or Sanogo.
The best thing for me would be if Milan again has a german team in its group, so I can watch our games on TV

Yap, last year I've tried to get tickets for our games against Schalke 04, but they were all sold out to paying Members of Schalke before I could get a hand on them.
My best chance would be Bremen...please...be in Milans group

Benfica draw 1-1 away, and playing like sh!t...
Well, 1-1 away is always a good result in CL elimination match.
Arsenal is winning 2-0 away. 2 goals in 2 min...

I think it's still fresh in everybodies mind, I still can't even watch highlights from that game.
I also hope that we will meet them again and hopefully we'll trash them arounda bit and then hit them with like 6 goals just to get a bit of revenge.
Although I seriously doubt we'll be ably to meet them they don't look so good right know, I mean they bearely got through today with a last gasp goal.
So let's see what happen's, but I really can't wait till we draw them and we will be able to take revenge, especially for that dive that Gerrard did to get the penalty, I still sometime replay that in my mind, if I see him I seriously would think about strangling him because I still feel that that cup was stolen from us, just like the one that Marseille won against us and then later gor stripped from them

I was literally rooting for them to pass Haifa .. I wanted them last season and I want them this season too .. And I wont stop till we meet again.. But this time I want a home and away tie, so we can show our fans and their fans that AC Milan deserved that cup fair and square .. We out played them in ever way possible; and that Dudek .. You have a point there, I always though that a keeper wasn't supposed to move during a penalty before the bal has been struck, I guess I was wrong.
And you're not alone on the wanting to meet them again part I would love it if that happened so we can smack them around a bit. And you're also right on the outplaying them bit, the numbers of sitters we missed and all the miracle saves the chip monk did would have been funny if it wasn't such a sad thing.

I don't think so, in the back of our minds we will always say, hmm if that one wasn't taken from underneath our noses we would have 8 and not 7, even when we winn another CL

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still can't believe we lost it that way, it's ridicolous. It's like god was against us that night and wanted us to suffer as much as possible. Not only about the 6-minutes self-destruction, but even for the penalty stopped by Dida and then sent in the net by Alonso. Not to mention Sheva's immense opportunity in the last minutes of the second extra-time. It was written that night we were going to suffer and so it happened.

Porto

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Aug 12 2006, 04:57 PM)
Nah. Porto fired their coach yesterday, and they've to get a new one. New coach, new tactic, new first 11... probably they'll fail this season. But, they've great players. Missing a good striker, though. You never know.
Benfica, if they keep Simao (it seems Valencia will not give what he wants), + Rui Costa + some adds like Katsouranis will be stronger. Simão, Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes and Miccoli (on load from Juve) in the same ofensive side, would be good do see. Let's see if that happens. I predict a good season for them.
Sporting Lisbon, at the moment are pretty strong. Young team, young coach. Good striker - Liedson (super-diver, but in the end, he's pretty good). I think they'll have a good season too.
The 3, will be on the CL group stage I believe. (Benfica draw 1-1 away with 6 'first team players' injuried and without Simao)

No. All the portuguese teams (big 3) can't say in the beginning of the season "We want the CL"... it's not the reality.
For a portuguese club, like Benfica or Porto, good in Europe = 1/4 finals. To be in the last 8 is really good.
Both clubs, Benfica and Porto have 2 CL trophies... (actually Benfica have 7(!) european finals) but are not "candidates". And they'll never be. No money...
In UEFA Cup, they are. But... $$$ = CL. There's a big difference between UEFA and CL. They prefer to be eliminated on CL group stage, then to get to UEFA semi-final or something.
PS: Mourinho is 'the coach'. It's the only top-class coach that Portugal has at the moment. And that, in a portuguese club, makes the difference.

If we get through the group stage then I think we will definately get there, Ancelloti is a genius when it comes to 2 legged knock-out games, so I think we still have a big chance to getting through to the semis yes.
But considering our luck we will get the group of death so, I think it will be an ordeal just to get out of the group.

If no striker comes then we will play the xmas tree, nothing to worry about, we don't need Sheva to play with that formation.

Even with Xmas tree... do you think we have any chance vs. Barcelona, Real Madrid,
Inter or Chelsea?
I don't think so.
Since when have Inter become a contender and a treath, if you can remeber correctly thay have always spent a lot of money on transfers but always failed and they usually get the easiest draws from the rest of the Italian teams. Inter did nothing but buy 2 strikers, 1 of them has already proven that he will fail there (Crespo, I guess he was REALLY desperate to come back to Italy for him to chose Inter) and you already know that I'm not an Ibra fan and I think that he won't have a good season at Inter. I might be wrong about this and he will have a great season but that is highly unlikely. Oh and I forgot about Virera or as dst put it Patrick unlucky Viera
We'll see what Real can do against Lyon, last year Lyon trashed Real and I know that we can't compare this season to the last one concernig Real with the signings that they have made, but for one Cappello doesn't convince me anymore especially in the CL and now we'll really see if all those signings where worth it for them.
And Chelsea proved just how beatable they are yesterday, they might spend sh!t loads of money to get all the stars but the cracks in their squad have already started to show with Lampard and Ballack reportedly not being the best of friends and some of the players that where already there like Lampard and Terry have already started to show that they are not happy with the difference between their salaries and the ones Sheva and Ballack have.
Barca imo oppinion are the only ones that I consider being the biggest treath for us, they reinforced their weakpoints and didn't try to scoop up any new supertars just strengthened what was already a very strong team.
I don't know why people don't like the xmas tree so much in 02/03 we played a lot of games with that formation and look where that got us, yep qe won the CL, and even in 04/05 we played a lot of games with that formation especially when Sheva had to have surgery in his face

last time we met AEK was the 1994/95 season. Back then we drew 0-0 at Athens and won 2-1 at "home". The return game was not played in San Siro (Milan was suspended for fans throwing objects on Saltzburg's goalkeeper) but instead it was held at Trieste! Both Milan goals were scored by Panucci!!

Too much mafia on it too, specially in the North... Maybe that's why I prefer the clubs from Lisbon. Inter will have a walk in the park ... 0-3
Liverpool will lose 1-0 or maybe draw and Real will definetely be defeated!!! Arsenal will win; they always do so in the group stages!!!

Sporting is not a bad team. Lot of young players from their Academy. Maybe Inter will crush them, but that just because it's their first CL match in... 6-7 years? And when you have a team with so many youngsters, they'll probably get too nervous on the first match on the major European competition.
But believe me. They have some good players: no... NOT RICARDO!
But Nani (ofensive mid) and Liedson (super-diver but good striker). Moutinho (center mid) is not bad too.

Don't complain about how bad football is in Greece because that would mean that you haven't witnesses Maltese football. I've tried watching a game but I just can't go through with it, it's that bad. They don't even allow our clubs to even TRY and participate in the CL. Even to go into the UEFA cup they have to go through a million preliminary rounds, and they still lose against teams with names consisting of numbers. That's how bad football is over here. But still everyone is obsessed with it

Very few people actually care about what's happening in the domestic league here, I'm one of those that doesn't care.
During the world cup we where actually on Italian news for all the celebrating we did over here after the win.
The Milan club Malta has well over 5000 members in it, and that's not even the majority of the Milan supporters, who are not members, and Malta is a really small island, so that ammount of members for just one club is really huge
There are also a lot of Merda and Gobbi fans, not to mention the ones that support the English teams.

Honestly, the football Germany played in the WC 2002 sucked, and everyone here knows that. If it wasn't for Ballack even the US could have stopped us...
And in 1996 we were also lucky to have such a great defense, but the football we played at that time was really good.
Besides I always say Germany played great football in the WC 1990 (great great Klinsman), but after that it wasn't the same...until last WC.

I watched mostly Sporting Lisbon - Inter and I've got to admit Sporting impressed me a lot. Their game was very fast and their passes very precise. Inter played well, but they never had any clear occasion for goal. Let's see what they're going to do against Sampdoria. Oh, and Caneira's goal was just spectacular.

man, I'm really glad that Roma win that game ... as for Inter, they really let Italy down, I hope Milan can show the world that we are still strong despite fairly inactive tranfer market and can go far in this competition

a) On the last min, he almost scored. But yes, all the Inter squad were destroyed yesterday.
Since Mourinho took over, Chelsea won titles. That's what's important - the results. I wouldn't mind playing that bad and winning Serie A this season.

Nah, I think Lyon are strong enough to try and win the CL this year. And about our victory last season, you've got to admit they didn't let us play our game and we scored in the last 5 minutes, luckily. I honestly thought we were out, before Pippo put his leg in and we passed the turn.

Don't forget that they had Diarra last season. He was the main reason why we couldn't play our game. I think it's more Real being weak this time rather then the greatness of Lyon. I've said this a million times and I'm going to say it again, Capello is not made for the CL, he is a good domestic league coach (grinding out results, out of small teams) but he not good in the CL. I might even be bold enough to say that Real might not make it out of that group. Highly unlikely but I think it could happen.

Champions League round-up
Arsenal and Manchester United started their UEFA Champions League campaigns with wins, but Real Madrid were beaten at Lyon.
The Gunners were too good for Hamburg, but The Red Devils were pushed to the limit by Celtic before running out 3-2 winners.
Lyon took the scalp of Real Madrid once again, while Milan proved far too classy for AEK Athens and Steaua Bucharest thrashed Dynamo Kiev.
An early penalty from Gilberto, following Robin van Persie's tumble, set Arsenal on their way to victory at Hamburg.
Hamburg found life tough playing with a man down following keeper Sascha Kirschstein's dismissal and their hopes were dashed when Tomas Rosicky rifled home from 25 yards.
Boubacar Sanogo drilled home from 12 yards deep into stoppage time to set up a grandstand finish but The Gunners held on.
Arsenal look firm favourites to progress as Porto and CSKA Moscow drew 0-0.
Celtic threatened to cause an upset at Old Trafford, but were undone by a Louis Saha-inspired United.
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink rifled Celtic ahead on 21 minutes, but Saha netted a penalty after Ryan Giggs had tumbled under minimal contact on the half hour.
Saha grabbed a second on 40 minutes, slotting home after a precise pass from Paul Scholes. Any thoughts of United being able to move into cruise control were snuffed out when Shunsuke Nakamura curled home a superb free kick to level the scores.
Celtic, though, proved to be the architects of their own downfall as Thomas Gravesen gifted possession to United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tapped home after Saha had been denied by Artur Boruc.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men hold a cushion at the top of Group F after one game as Copenhagen and Benfica drew 0-0 in Denmark.
Lyon put Real Madrid to the sword 12 months ago and they repeated the trick, at home on Wednesday.
Brazilian Fred put Lyon ahead on 11 minutes with a neat chip after being found superbly by Juninho and Portuguese star Tiago added a second just past the half-hour mark.
Milan showed no signs of a hangover from the match-fixing scandal in Italy, as they made short work of AEK Athens at the San Siro.
An early header from Filippo Inzaghi set the Rossoneri on their way to three points and another header just before the break from Yoann Gourcuff knocked the stuffing out of the Greeks.
Milan were rarely tested after the break and a penalty from Kaka 13 minutes from time sealed a deserved success.
Steaua Bucharest made their return to Europe's top club competition following a ten-year absence a winning one as they took the scalp of Dynamo Kiev.
Sorin Ghionea headed Steaua ahead on three minutes, but Sergei Rebrov showed all his quality in front of goal to level the scores shortly afterwards.
The visitors rallied, though, and a headed effort from Valentin Badea and a fine free kick from Nicolae Dica shortly before the interval put the visitors in control and Dica added a second after the break to cap a fine success.
Anderlecht and Lille shared the spoils in an entertaining affair at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadion.
It proved to be a game of two halves in Belgium, as Anderlecht dominated the opening 45 minutes and held a deserved leads through Nicola Pareja.
However, Lille, inspired by some attacking substitutions, roared forward in the second half and Nicolas Fauvergue grabbed a deserved leveller with ten minutes remaining.

Spanish Press slam Canna
The Spanish Press were scathing about Fabio Cannavaro’s poor performance in Real Madrid’s Champions League defeat to Lyon.
The Merengues were beaten 2-0 after being outplayed by the French outfit in all departments, with the Azzurri captain one of the worst players on the pitch.
“Nothing worked for Real Madrid and what was even more amazing was the horrible performance offered by Cannavaro,†said AS on Thursday.
“The defender was the symbol of a chaotic Real Madrid and was involved in most of their worst moments.
“The No 5 was slow, insecure and confused, a perfect representative of this muddled and chaotic Real Madrid.â€
Cannavaro offered no excuses, admitting that the team did not play as expected on such an important occasion.
“We played an awful match, especially during the first half. Most of our mistakes, which were many, had to do with their physical superiority,†explained the former Juve man to the club’s website.
“I don’t think it was a concentration problem because when you face teams like Lyon your concentration peaks automatically.
“We are worried, but we want to get back on track as soon as possible. This is just the beginning of the season and these things can happen.â€
Coach Fabio Capello also revealed his disappointment with the performance, although he remains confident of qualification.
“Of course I am unhappy after this match, but we have to lift our heads, think positively and concentrate on what lies ahead,†said Don Fabio.
“We have a great deal of work to do, but I have confidence in my team. I am sure that we will recover from this and the home match with Dynamo Kiev gives us a chance to redeem ourselves.â€
Imo Nesta has always been the better one of the two. Canna was great when he was at Parma, then he moved to Inter, and that's where he lost his way. He was average for Juve but he had an almost super human like world cup.
I'm still happy that the Inter Canna is playing for Real, they got what they deserved for constantly tapping up players of other clubs most importantly for tapping up Kaka.
And this will only make me happy, I would bet money that Real, even with Cappello will still be in the black whole they have been living in for these past few seasons. Which is great news for us since no top player like Kaka would want to go to a club like that

I think they're pathetic. It's not a new Real Madrid, it's the same lame Real, only the coach and president have changed. But, haven't they changed constantly over the last 2-3 years? First was Perez, then Fernando MartÃn, now Calderon. Look at the choaches after Del Bosque left: Queiroz, Camacho, Remón, Luxemburgo, Lopez Caro and now Capello. And this only in the last 3 years. They change them every season. The same with the players. Real is like Inter, always the favourite with superstars in their squad but in the end they win nothing.

Still I don't agree with you on that Real need so much time to find her way cause the backbone is the same; what needs to be changed is the mentality and that is hard to do; IMO Capello was never up to that job ... but we'll see ...

No you can't compare their history, but they can be compared to Inter because of what they are becoming. Real have been slipping in 'Inter zone' for these past few years. The constant changing of coaches and players, is one indication. And I don't think that they will give their current players a chance to gel with eachother, if they fail this year another complete over-haul will happen just like at Inter.

Still, the Coppa Italia and Super cup? Who the hell gives a damn?? Look aat Milan for instance we don't even play the strongest B team for the coppa games. Inter always try their hardest in those games because they all know that it's teir only chance of silverware in the season.
And yes the damn badge is still on that damn shirt. But does that signify that they are the BEST team in Italy and that they desereved it?? NOOO!!!!! That was just a gift from Guido Rossi because he knew that that was the only way for them to win anything that is worthwhile.
And still what you said just points out how low Real have become. The only reason why you read 'European powerhouse Real Madrid' when you read an article is because of their history, not because it reflects what they are now. When calling Milan a powerhouse it is totally different, our history and record in the CL should be enought to indicate what we are.

Rui Costa is not going to play. Nelson will be in the bench probably (this one is for dst). Well, Benfica has a good attack: Simão-Nuno Gomes-Miccoli... but the team is not performing any good lately (lot of injuries too). ManUtd will win this one easily.
Rui is not going to play again? Does he have some kind of long term injury, because he didn't play against Kopenhagen either...

He'll play probably in 1 week. I think he could play today, but Benfica is just doing this for precaution (don't know if this word exists).

I just finished watching the re-run on the Arsenal-Porto game ..
If Arsenal keep this up and Lehmeen plays as good as he did in last yrs CL, I think they will make it, at least, to the final 4 .. They are fine in all departments !
Lyon also are a very dynamic team, when we played them .. I really envied the way they attack when compared to us .. It's like their whole team kept pushing forward. And tonight, (actually watching Steaue-Lyon, right now) Lyon can still be considered a very dangerous team, even without Diarra's contribution to the MDField.
Posted by: dst Sep 27 2006, 12:54 AM
I agree ... I think Arsenal and Lyon are the most complete teams (that is not squads, not individual players) in Europe right now. They are fast and are great in all aspects ... It would be great to watch them play against each other !!!

Raul scored 2 last night surpassing the English Student, and the R.Madrid captain is now the #1 top scorer in CL history.
#1 Raul - 53 goals
#2 Shevchenko - 52

Bremen and Bayern are better, no doubt. But the fact is, Inter and Barça did nothing, while Milan commanded the whole match and should have scored at least 2 goals. The fact is Portugal, Inter played terrible, while Barça was on a bad day. Milan instead controlled the whole match and had even a disallowed goal.

well Ribo ?? last season he was very good ... that is ... for greek standards ... this year he's just scoring from set-pieces !!
why would I do that to myself ??? well he did not play ... he wasn't 100% fit and just came in as a sub in the very end ...
... you like him ?? I detest the guy ... I even was dissapointed when Milan bought him !!
he was once my favourite player ... and his overhead kicks cannot be matched ... I still like him though ...

Yeah...I hope this can be arranged
They obviously won't win the Scudetto either, but there's the Coppa Italia....
