My predicted Italy line up:

----------------------------Buffon----------------------------

Zambrotta------Panucci--------Chiellini------------Grosso

Camoranesi------De Rossi------Ambrosini-------Perrotta

---------------------------Cassano--------------------------

----------------------------Toni------------------------------

It's similar to the 4-4-1-1 that Lippi used during the WC (with a few changes in personnel). Without Pirlo, I think Donadoni will concede that Spain are likely to control the midfield and he'll therefore look to play on the counter. The four midfielders to play quite compact when not in possession. The wide midfielders can drift in and let the fullbacks overlap if Italy manage to hold on to the ball.

I think we'll see Ambrosini ahead of Aquilani as Donadoni seems to like Max and has used him in every match so far, meaning that De Rossi will be freed up a bit. Camo is the only natural wide midfielder in the squad, and I think it will be Perrotta on the left (where he played during the WC). Toni has to start even though he is out of form because Quagliarella, Borriello and Del Piero are not really players who can lead the attack on their own. Cassano to be the creative outlet and the link player on the breaks.

I think three or four of us have posted our preferred Italian teams and they have all been quite different. It's going to be a fascinating tactial encounter this one!

Hey guys,

To those planning on going to the match, I hope there is no problem with regard to buying tickets. I'm near Milan now and went to a Banca Intesa branch to buy some tix. They wouldn't sell them to me (I am an Aussie here on holiday), as apparently only locals can buy them now (as a result of the new laws). Luckily I was with my cousin who lives here and he was able to get me a ticket, although there is no guarantee I'll be able to enter the stadium.

Just want to let you know of my experience. As I said, I hope that there is no problem for you to get tickets (if you dont have them already).

Looks like Tevez wants Inter move too. they're beginning to get on my nervous. what the fvck are they gonna do with all these great striker?

Adriano / Suazo / Crespo / Zlatan / Cruz / Recoba / and now TEVEZ...

Shame on your greed, Moratti!
*

7 top strikers.....that is ridiculous! Even if Recoba isn't top notch anymore and they ditch Adriano they will still have 5 if Tevez comes. We only really have 3 at the moment! No disrespect to Oli, but you can't deny his first season at Milan was a disappointment.

This may be unpopular but hopefully Moratti may be prepared to part with Zlatan if they get Tevez. I know others may not agree, but I would love to see Zlatan at Milan. Highly debatle as to whether Moratti would sell him though, and even if he did there's a good chance he would sell him to anyone but Milan.

Well last season was a weird one. But attendance is a big problem for Serie A. The stadiums are all old and not taken care of, including the San Siro. Then there is hype. Hype boosts attendance but apart from the Roman newspapers and broadcasters no one hypes up the league. Instead everyone's bringing it down!! They hit each other...
It has to do with taxes.

The grave problem IS the non-funding of the teams.

I can't believe Messi scored a hand goal after emulating Diego's other one from 86 against Getafe earlier in the season. Incredible!

I don't know who I would like to see win in Spain. If Real win it may mean that Eto'o or Ronaldinho are more likely to leave but Madrid may feel like they are the 'best club in the world again' after winning something for the first time in 3 years and have another crack at Kaka. So I guess I'd like to see Seville win. That would be an incredible seson from them if they can pull it off.

^^^I'm with Han 100% on the Gila issue. The guy is a World Cup winner and a Champions League winner and he's still only 25. With that sort of experience he is going to get better and better, and he already has a good record in Serie A.

As Porty said earlier, there will still be many minutes for him to play next season even if a world class striker comes in and he is third choice. The competition for a place will improve his game vastly. Just look at Drogba this season. Sheva arrives and suddenly Drogba realises he is going to really need to perform, and delivers an absolutely massive season.

The thing I like about Gila is that he is a very hard worker. Even if he hasn't been scoring in Cl, he works very hard for the team and you definitely can't call him lazy. His scoring record in the CL this season hasn't been great but in the knockout stages he was forced to play up front on his own which isn't easy. He picked up in Serie A when Ronaldo arrived and he had someone to work with.

I suspect the interview he gave to Gazetto reflects a bit of frustration and disappointment he feels about the criticism he has received and missing out on a start in the CL Final. I know Milan management have a high regard for him as a person so hopefully both parties can work things out and he stays and proves his value to everyone.

Zambrotta would be an awesome addition to our squad. He's one of the best fullbacks in the world, and can play on the left or right. Having him playing on the left would free up Janku to play in mid for us if necessary.

I think it's possible that he will come, especially if Daniel Alves goes to Barcelona. Zambrotta would instantly strengthen our squad and wouldn't cost a huge amount either.

I'd say that after a couple more years both parties will need to move on. Ancelotti will probably need a new challenge and Milan will probably need someone fresh. Not saying that Ancelotti hasn't done a brilliant job with Milan, he definitely has, but change is necessary sometimes to keep moving forward.

Ancelotti will be a brilliant Italy coach. Milan will get someone great as well.

De Rossi is Italy-captain material but he won't leave Roma.

Emerson would be a handy pick-up to give a bit more depth to midfield for what will be a very long campaign next season.

I'm pretty sure the mystery man Ancelotti was taking about is Ibrahimovic. The media splashed his name all over the papers the day after Ancelotti's initial quote and then Ancelotti retreated a bit and said "I never said it was him" and "Ibrahimovic will not be coming to Milan" etc. It suits Milan to keep things quiet and try to come to an agreement with him behind the scenes. No point playing it all out in front of the media because Moratti will get angry and basically sell him to anyone other than Milan. Everyone knows Ibra is trying to negotiate a pay rise with Inter and I think he is playing us to try to get what he wants with them. He's playing with fire if that's what he's doing though, just remember when Figo tried that stunt with Real/Barca a few years ago.

My mate reckons that if Ibra wants to leave, Moratti will sell him to Chelsea and Crespo will become permanant at Inter. This would also free up Shevchenko to come back to Milan. Basically if Ibra does want to leave Moratti will let him go anywhere EXCEPT for Milan. The only way he will come to Milan is if he really wants to join us, then player power will get its way and we will probably still pay heaps for him.

De Rossi is one of my fvourite players but, as someone has said before, his blood is Roma. He will become their captain and heartbeat after Totti gradually steps down, and possibly the next captain of Italy as well. Barca are after him too but I would be very, very surprised if he leaves Roma.

I'd be surprised if either of them came though. I'd say Sheva is more likely.

I don't know if Ronaldo, Sheva, Ronaldinho and Kaka in the same line up would work. Brazil tried something similar in the World Cuo with Ronaldo, Adriano, Ronaldinho and Kaka and the team lacked balance.

My ratings are as follows. Sorry if they're a bit long! I'm so excited about the victory that I'm having the day off and could type all day!

Dida 7- Good saves from Pennant in the first half and Gerrard in the second. Came out and made all his catches/punches well. Couldn't be blamed for the goal.

Oddo 6.5- Generally contained Zenden/Kewell and Liverpool didn't pose much of a threat from his flank. Made some nice overlaps including one which contributed to the second goal but didn't have a lot to do offensively.

Nesta 7- Solid display with no major faults. Made a great block from Kuyt's shot in the first half. Always in the right position.

Maldini 6.5- Lost possession in dangerous areas once or twice, but always a calming influence at the back and his partnership with Nesta is key. Good positional sense.

Jankulski 5.5- Had problems with Pennant in the first half especially. A poor first touch from a team mate's pass resulted in Pennant's chance around the 20 minute mark. Wanted to push forwad but was having problems containing Pennant. Most of Liverpool's best build up came from his flank.

Gattuso 6- Won lots of ball in midfield as usual but lost possession in a bad area which should have resulted in Gerrard scoring. Played responsibly after getting booked.

Pirlo 6.5- Calm on the ball and nice passing as always. Important outlet when coming out of defence. Wasn't owned by Mascherano or Alonso as some predicted he would. Who knows if his free kick was going in before Pippo deflected it? Delivery from some set pieces not at his usual excellent standard. Played his part in the overall performance.

Ambrosini 7- Neat in possession and worked hard to close space and get to the contest when we didn't have the ball. Does a lot of 1% efforts which generally go unnoticed like covering in centre defence when Maldini got drawn into the midfield and was temporarily out of position. Had a part in the build up to the second goal.

Seedorf 6- Didn't provide as much support to Kaka and Inzaghi as he has previously, which meant that they were slightly isolated. Had a part in the second goal, receiving the ball from Pirlo and holding off two defenders well to feed the ball across the field.

Kaka 7- Hard work for Kaka today. Was working on his own up front against multiple defenders for periods but had more space when Mascherano was taken off. Didn't have much of a sight of goal this time but was incorrectly called offside in the second half when he was through on goal. As almost always with Kaka, there was a final product to his efforts with him winning the free kick which led to the first goal and making an excellent assist for Pippo's second. How good was his spin to get past Riise in the first half?

Inzaghi 8- Pippo Inaghi, segna per noi! And he did, twice! First one was a bit lucky but the second one was a classic. His performance wasn't just about goals though as he worked very hard all over the field. Made small contributions like blocking a cross in the last 5 minutes and winning corners and throws. Huge effort....my man of the match.

Subs 7- They each made small contributions in their own way when they came on.

Ancelotti 7- His best decision was made before kick-off, with his choice to start Inzaghi paying off in a big way. Read the game pretty well. Liverpool largely cancelled out our attacking play but weren't creating a huge amount of clear chances either. Got his moves right in the second half, although Liverpool were chasing the gme by then.

Hahaha that is pretty lame from the Inter fans! Jealousy is a strong emotion.

Anyone keen on doing some ratings or are we all still basking in the glow of victory?!?!

I really am ashamed of being English sometimes. The Sky Sports studio consisted of 4 people, the presenter. Jamie Redknapp and Graeme Souness (Liverpool and Ruud Gullit (Milan).

Anything Ruud said about Milan they 'beat up' by saying they were awful, and have no chance of a defense next year.

What happened to the All-English Final?  (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

^^^We had Stan Collymore giving "special comments" and he was a disgrace as well. After the final whistle he said Milan didn't deserve it because we just tried to sit on a one goal lead.

Who cares anyway...

WELL DONE BOYS! CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!

We weren't great but neither were Liverpool either. They didn't want it to be an open game because we've got more technical ability than them (I'm sure even the most ardent Liverpool fan would admit that) so closed things down, especially in midfield. Anyway......all that doesn't matter I guess as we we're European champs and that's all that matters!

Far out man Inzaghi is so under-appreciated by commentators and the football public in general. His second goal was a gem, classic Inzaghi. That will go down as one of my all-time favourite goals. He worked really hard as well and ws even getting back in our defensive third to help out. I'd say he was our best player, and not just for the goals.

We'll be a lot stronger next year as well with Ronaldo available for the Champions League, and hopefully we'll get another striker and who knows maybe even one or more of Ronaldindo, Buffon and Zambrotta. It sounds like Sheva is pretty close to coming back as well. We'll be very strong in Italy and Europe if we can field Kaka, Ronaldo and Shevchenko together! Still.....very very very hard to actually win this thing so we should never take it for granted.

I thought Kuyt's goal was offside and was a nervous wreck in the last few minutes. Hopefully tonight will allow us to bury some of the memories of Istanbul.

Anyway.....let's enjoy it for the great achievement it is! Fantastic spirit, determination and courage shown by the players and the whole club to make a success out of what was looking like a very difficult season.

Well done Milan!

^^^^Definitely. Hopefully all will be peaceful between the fans.

Just read somewhere that Zenden will be given a fitness test late on Tuesday to see if he has recovered from his ankle injury. Kewell is on standby if he doesn't recover in time. Arbeloa/Riise is also another option for Benitez on the left.

Probably like everyone here I just want the game to roll around so all the talking can stop and we will see which team is better on the night, Milan or Liverpool. I hope our players are more relaxed than I am!

More than anything, I just want Milan to play a good game and to play with courage. If we play to the best of our abilities and fight it out to the end but for whatever reason Liverpool still come out on top, then so be it. Hopefully our players will perform as well as they can and give it their all on Wednesday night. We can't ask them for anything more than that.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ May 21 2007, 06:30 PM)
by the way our starting lineup is very predicable, while their's not. that's a huge advantage for them, believe me or not.

*

^^^ I actually believe that a predictable lineup in some ways is advantageous. Playing the same set of players together on a regular basis allows for strong cohesion to develop. We've been able to develop some great cohesion between the defence and midfield in the latter stages of this season. I wouldn't be too concerned about the fact that our lineup is predictable.

With regard to Liverpool's lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if Benitez took a risk and started with something along the lines of:

-------------------Reina-------------------------
-------Finnan-----Agger------Carragher-------
Pennant-----Alonso-----Masch----------Kewell
-------------------Gerrard-----------------------
-------------Crouch-----Kuyt--------------------

The logic behind this would be to play both Pennant and Kewell to try to peg back our fullbacks (who are our major source of width in attack) and to play three in central midfield in order to reduce space in the middle of the pitch. The aim would be to force Kaka to go to wide areas to find the ball, thereby taking him away from where he is most dangerous. I'm not sure if this would work, but Benitez is an excellent tactician and I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this.

We should avoid penalties at all costs given Liverpool's record in shootouts, and especially Reina's record of 7 saves out of 9 for Villareal (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) ) So I would really like to see us go out and really play to win...rather than play not to lose (like both teams did in the FA Cup final).

I don't particularly want revenge for Istanbul, but just want to win to bury the bad memories of 2005. Realistically, the only way we could ever do that is to beat Liverpool in another Champions League final. We have, possibly through fate or destiny, incredibly been given that opportunity. Surely we won't fail? Hopefully la forza della destina will be with us!

Wow so everyone has jumped on the didier train. He has had a good season, but I don't think he has the technique for serie a, he's not going to get anywhere near the space he has in the prem. His aerial abilities are superb, but other than that he's not that great in my opinion, probably doesn't help that I don't like him that much as a person. He's not that young either, he'll be 30 next season. I think we can do alot better.

I agree with the above. No denying he has had a great season, but I don't think he has the right personality to be a Milan player.

I think he's just waiting.

He'll probably have a talk with the president/Owner and whoever, see what their plans are/who they're looking to buy.

I think he'll wait a bit into the summer to see how things go. If he feels they can push for CL football, he'll stay. If not, he'll be out of there.

This is the guy I would most like to see Milan sign in the summer. I don't mean any disrespect to Dida, who is still a great keeper and has been a great player for Milan over the last few years. But Buffon is the best in the world. And goalkeeper is a very important position.
