a 2 - 1 win for us.

rest all most players and give Oli a chance alongside Roni.

I don't think Milan will be concentrating on this game ... But Ronaldo will be 100% focused smile.gif

I think Milan might have difficulty in the game, but we are playing at the san siro .. So that is definitely the advantage. In any case, A lot of our players wont play ...

Maldini, Kaka, Gattuso, Pirlo, and those are off the top of my head .. Still, I'm hopeful for a win ... And definitely two strikers smile.gif

Posted by: Darunia Apr 19 2007, 05:09 PM

I would go with this lineup:

-------------Kalac-------------------
Cafu----Bonera---Kaladze--Favalli
Gattuso-----Brocchi------Serginho
-------------Gourcuff---------------
------Oliveira--------Ronaldo------

Probably give Gattuso some rest in the 2nd half, maybe let Inzaghi get a run too.

Brocchi's been out lately... hopefully he'll bet fit so Pirlo or Ambro can rest.

Where has Broochi been ?! He hasn't played in ages.. And I think that is a very likely formation, maybe Simic instead of Cafu ...

Posted by: Portikins Apr 19 2007, 05:51 PM

Really difficult match. Specially 'cause we play on Tuesday and I hope Carletto rest Kaka', Pirlo, Gattuso and Seedorf. I doubt but...

Anyway, 1-0. Ronaldo. Enough for the 3 points.

It will be interesting to see how we can deal with fast paced players in preparation of the man utd match

Posted by: Darunia Apr 19 2007, 07:08 PM

Good point.. hopefully dealing with Suazo prepares us for C. Ronaldo. Although Ronaldo isn't just pace.

Last time I heard he had the flu

Posted by: tom_valtellina Apr 20 2007, 01:00 PM

Bit of a danger game this one. Strong chance that everyone's mind will be on Tuesday night and with the likelihood of key players being rested there is a real danger we could drop points.

I would like to see Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf and Gattuso all rested, but I think that playing Gourcuff, Serginho and Brocchi in mid together is a bit risky because they haven't really played much together and there may not be much cohesion between them. So I think Ancelotti will start with any two of Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf or Gattuso with some of the others and look to substitute them at half time if we are able to take the lead and control the match to a relative degree.

Wouldn't like to drop points in this one ESPECIALLY for the reason that we are on a bit of a roll of late and drawing/losing may mean that we lose a bit of momentum going into the Man United clash.

Posted by: dst Apr 20 2007, 01:23 PM

Brocchi can replace Gattuso perfectly. Gourcuff can play on the left and Seedorf on the right, he can't get tired anyway... it's not like he's trying... rolleyes.gif

I think this would be a good line-up:

1st half:

Kalac

Oddo - Bonera - Simic - Favalli

Cafu - Seedorf - Brocchi - Yoann

Gilardino - Serginho (>>Oliveira)

2nd half:
Kalac

Cafu - Bonera - Kaladze (he might be needed in Old Trafford) - Favalli

Seedorf - Brocchi - Yoann - Serginho

Gilardino - Kaka/Grimi

Of course this will NOT happen (maybe only the back four will be the same) and I'm 90% sure Kaka and Pirlo are going to play at least for one half each.

Posted by: han2503 Apr 20 2007, 01:52 PM

I think we shouldo go with this formation for this game

Cafu--Bonera--Kaladze--Favalli
---Brocchi---Ambro---Sergio---
-------------Gourcuff-------------
-------Ronaldo--Gilardino-------

I think this will be enough to do the trick against Cagliari.

Sergio needs to get some playing time. Yoann has been hitting form lately, and I've noticed that he is shooting more and gaining a lot of confidence with the ball. I think giving him the role of an attacking mid for this game could be a good idea. If it doesn't work out then Kaka can always come on at half time.

Ronaldo and Gilardino have proved to be our best pairing, they are working amazingly well together.

Brocchi on the right and Ambro anchoring that midfield I think will be enough, Ambro still can pass the ball vey well and can create thing same for Brocchi. Again if this doesn't work Pirlo could come on after half time.

BUT, knowing Carlo I'm almost sure this will be our line up

Cafu--Bonera--Kaladze--Favalli
--Ambro/Rino--Pirlo--Yoann/Seedorf
------------Kaka------------------
--------Gilardino--Ronaldo-------

And maybe Kaka and Pirlo coming off after half time

Posted by: dst Apr 20 2007, 01:56 PM

Ambro is essential for the Old Trafford game as much as anybody else so I don't think he should play the whole ninety minutes.

I doubt Ronaldo will be fit and that's why I excluded him but if he's ready then he should play, no doubt!

I know Ambro will be essential but Rino and Pirlo more so and they've got more games on their legs then Ambro has. But subbing him out and putting in Pirlo in the second half will be enough. Giving them 45 minutes each.

Yeah I know R9 might not be ready, but I'm assuming he will be fit enough to play at least 45 minutes. Just try to get the game rapped up by then.

btw, I like your 4-4-2 formation but I don't know about Cafu, the last time we tried him there he was horrible, although he was in terrible form during that particular period and now he seems like he's back in shape and it could work out.

But I don't know if Carlo would try it again

Milan - Cagliari -- http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sa0607/mil-cag.html

Milan will be hoping to keep up their late push for Champions League qualification with another win when they host Cagliari at the San Siro. The Sardinian visitors will also be eyeing the points though, as they seek to stay clear of the relegation battle.

The Rossoneri have hit form at the right time this season after already making a late storming run into the top four, they are now edging their way closer to Lazio in third place. Three consecutive wins, during which they have scored an impressive 11 goals, means the Diavoli will be full of confidence going into the final stages of their campaign. After the 5-2 thrashing of Ascoli in midweek Coach Carlo Ancelotti will be expecting another comfortable performance here.

Ancelotti has just one absence to contend with, but it could be a crucial one. First-choice goalkeeper Nelson Dida is still out injured after already missing the victory over Ascoli. With the Brazilian absent, Zeljko Kalac is expected to continue to deputise between the posts ahead of January signing Marco Storari. Gennaro Gattuso seems likely to be rested again with Massimo Ambrosini taking his place, while Marek Jankulovski is expected to get the nod ahead of Kakha Kaladze at left-back.

Winger Mauro Esposito is unlikely to play any part in the rest of Cagliari’s season and is now joined in the treatment room by Tiziano Bruzzone, Leonardo Colucci and Alessandro Conticchio. Those absences mean Alessandro Budel and Antonino D’Agostino should keep their places in midfield, while Andrea Capone looks set to get the nod up front ahead of Simone Pepe and Antonio Langella. Paolo Bianco is suspended, with youngster Michele Canini expected to start in his place.

There may be five places between themselves and the relegation zone, but with just the same number of points filling the gap the Rossoblu won’t be feeling safe just yet. Parma’s resurgence has put a number of teams in the bottom half’s position in doubt, and they will be looking to continue their impressive form to keep the relegation battle at arm’s length.

Man on fire: Alberto Gilardino (Milan) – Just like the Milan team as a whole, Gilardino has hit form at the perfect time. The ex-Parma hitman has brushed aside the criticism he has received this season with some clinical finishing recently, scoring four times in four Serie A appearances.

Last season: Milan 1-0 Cagliari

Form guide: Milan (W D W W W) Cagliari (L W W D L)

Milan (probable): Kalac; Oddo, Bonera, Nesta, Jankulovski; Ambrosini, Pirlo, Seedorf; Kaka; Gilardino, Ronaldo

Cagliari (probable): Chimenti; Ferri, Lopez, Canini, Agostini; Biondini, Conti, Budel, D’Agostino; Suazo, Capone

Posted by: arivanjj Apr 20 2007, 02:28 PM

Channel4 are really hard headed, that line-up is impossible a game before CL.

Posted by: misha Apr 20 2007, 02:34 PM

Gilardino should be rested too. He most probably will play as a lone striker vs United

Posted by: Darunia Apr 20 2007, 03:40 PM

Yeah, I can see Oli getting a start along with Ronaldo...

Pretty Janku will start against Manchester too.

QUOTE
“[Goalkeeper] Nelson Dida will not be available tomorrow, we will see if he recovers in time for the match in Manchester.

“Kaka will not play against Cagliari, even if we are still deciding if he will sit on the bench or not.

“Andrea Pirlo will also sit out, while the defensive department will change a bit. In any case Paolo Maldini, Serginho and Filippo Inzaghi should be available for Tuesday’s match in England.”

So he means Serginho won't probably be available for Cagliari then?

We'll prob see something like this

Kalac

Cafu-Bonera-Kaladze-Favalli

Gattuso-Ambro-Gourcuff

Seedorf

Gilardino/Oliveira-Ronaldo

Well... it looks like he's Carlo's first choice for the CB position behind Paolo and Nesta so if there's any problem with either of those two he will most probably be the one to take their place... It's not that I want him anywhere near Manchester (anywhere near Europe to be exact...).

@han. I think Janku is definite for the LB position. I really hope you're wrong, Kaladze is going to be humiliated and more importantly he will make us look like a joke!

I don't know, but I just havethis feeling thathe will start at LB.

And besides I think he will be fine, remeber the game he had against Figo in 02/03 against Real at LB?

I think he will do better then then Janku anyway

PORTIERI: Fiori, Kalac, Storari; DIFENSORI: Bonera, Cafu, Favalli, Grimi, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Oddo, Simic; CENTROCAMPISTI: Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Pirlo, Seedorf; ATTACCANTI: Borriello, Gilardino, Ricardo Oliveira, Ronaldo.

Brocchi is back in the squad, he may get a start. Carlo said something on the main site, but it hasn't been translated yet.

Posted by: han2503 Apr 20 2007, 05:10 PM

That's a thin squad.

Kaka not even called up ohmy.gif

I expect to see this midfield

Brocchi--Ambro--Yoann
-------Seedorf-----------

The rest of the team picks itself

Posted by: dst Apr 20 2007, 05:14 PM

Borriellooooooooooo!!!!! cool.gif

Posted by: tom_valtellina Apr 20 2007, 05:25 PM

I really hope we don't drop points in this one.....definitely want to keep the momentum up going into the Man U game.

At least Kaka and Nesta are definitely going to be rested. I just hope the squad is good enough to get the job done against Cagliari!

RE the Kaladze v Jankulovski debate.......which one of the two is faster? I would have thought Janku is quicker, although Ancelotti may feel Kaladze is the better defender (that is debatable, I know!). Would be surprised if Janku isn't left back on Tuesday night though.

So people get ready!!! and does anyone know how to record matches onto ur comp from ps2 ??!!!

I also think that if we are comfortable with the result after the 1st half carletto will play this:

1st half
-------------kalac------------
cafu-bonera-kaladze-favalli
----------ambro--------------
--brocchi---------gourcuff---
-----------seedorf------------
-----R99------------oli-------

2nd half
-------------kalac------------
simic-bonera-kaladze-favalli
--cafu-----gourcuff----brocchi
--boriello------R99------oli----

As much as I'd like to see it, I don't think Ancelotti will be playing with wingers anytime soon with our current squad. I'd say the first formation you mentioned will be what we use for most of the 90 mintutes.

Don't think switching to 3 strikers would be the best idea either.

-----------brocchi----------

-----oli(wing/ss)-----------------------

MILAN-CAGLIARI: LE FORMAZIONI UFFICIALI

Milan (4-3-1-2): Kalac; Cafu, Simic, Kaladze, Favalli; Gattuso, Brocchi, Gourcuff; Seedorf; Oliveira, Ronaldo.

Cagliari (4-4-2): Chimenti; Pisano, Lopez, Canin, Del Grosso; Marchini, Budel, Conti, D'Agostino; Capone, Suazo.

Good line up. Seedorf should be replaced by Serginho in the half time and maybe Rino for Ambro will be a good change later on.

14' GOAL MILAN!!! What a superb move! Seedorf runs the ball from halfway and spreads it wide to Cafu on the right. It looks like the Brazilian is going to get beat to the ball by Abeijon but he slides in and wins the ball. In one motion he's back on his feet and drives a low ball across the face of goal which Ronaldo is there to gobble up! 1-0.

Milan 3 - 1 Cagliari
Ronaldo 14, 69 (M), Suazo pen 74 ©, Pirlo 80 (M)
Stadio Meazza

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ronaldo bagged a brace as a second-string Milan side disposed of Cagliari 3-1.

Carlo Ancelotti rested almost all the players expected to start in the Champions League semi-final with Manchester United, having created a relatively comfortable four-point cushion in their push for fourth place. Nelson Dida was out injured, making way for Zeljko Kalac. Cagliari lost Leonardo Colucci, Alessandro Conticchio and the suspended Paolo Bianco.

The Sardinians had the first effort, as a free kick was touched on for Daniele Conti and Kalac comfortably smothered the low strike. There were also penalty appeals for a Marcos Cafu handling offence that was considered involuntary, as he had been nudged in the back.

Clarence Seedorf and Ricardo Oliveira failed to get the final touch to the ball from six yards.

Milan broke through in controversial circumstances. Marcos Cafu's sliding tackle on Cristiano Del Grosso angered Cagliari, but the referee waved play on and he rolled across for Ronaldo's simple tap-in.

Cafu's angled drive was flicked on by Ronaldo's heel, but Il Fenomeno was in an offside position.

Diego Lopez performed a desperate tackle to stop Ronaldo tapping in after he had quickly exchanged passes with Gennaro Gattuso.

Cagliari were almost handed an equaliser with a lucky ricochet, but Andrea Capone did not react quickly enough, so Kakhaber Kaladze was able to clear.

Lopez was booked for a cynical tackle to stop Ricardo Oliveira's counter-attack, then D'Agostino volleyed just past the near post in a debatable offside position.

Yoann Gourcuff's powerful free kick was off target and moments later Cagliari lost the ball in midfield for Oliveira to sting Antonio Chimenti's palms.

The visitors also threatened with a quick break, as David Suazo hesitated just long enough for Kalac to rush out and close him down. Oliveira again went close, as his volley from a Gourcuff cross took a deflection to rescue Chimenti.

After the restart Capone split the Milan defence, but fell too easily when going for the ball with Kaladze and was told to get back up by the unimpressed referee.

Chimenti caught a Cristian Brocchi piledriver, then there was a double chance. Giuseppe Favalli's cross found both Oliveira's header and a flick on from Clarence Seedorf, but neither got the ball on target.

Cagliari had an even better chance. Suazo nutmegged Dario Simic and cut back for Capone to balloon over from six yards.

Ronaldo and Seedorf exchanged several paces on the edge of the area for a left-foot shot deflected out for a corner.

Massimo Ambrosini and Andrea Pirlo replaced Gattuso and Seedorf, rested for the Old Trafford match. Within seconds Pirlo had sent Oliveira running with a long pass and the cross missed Ronaldo's foot by inches.

It was only postponed by 30 seconds, as Chimenti flapped at Cafu's cross, so Ronaldo redirected the ball in from six yards with his chest! It was his seventh goal in 12 games for Milan.

Substitute Antonio Langella was sent clear and Kalac sprinted out of his area to kick the ball away - Marchini saw the open goal and attempted an ambitious lob off target.

The Sardinians kept pushing and Kaladze clumsily clattered into Capone as he ran on to Suazo's through ball. The referee pointed to the spot and Suazo sent Kalac the wrong way to make it 2-1 with 16 minutes to go.

Oliveira almost restored the two-goal cushion moments later with his angled drive fingertipped round the far post by Chimenti.

But Cagliari's tails were up and a free kick was whipped in just past Canini's outstretched foot.

Their heads were forced to drop again, though, as Pirlo curled in a magnificent free kick from 25 metres. He swung the ball in to the very top corner at the near post despite Chimenti's attempts to block.

The Rossoneri had to end their game in 10 men, as Kaladze picked up a second yellow card for a shirt-tug on Capone. Nonetheless, Chimenti had to beat away an Oliveira effort in stoppages.

cafu was man of the match, seedorf was lively and instrumental, pirlo comes on and with a first touch he sets up a 2 on 1 then wins a foul and scores a cracker... favalli was solid, simic did his job and was only beaten once or twice by suazo which is good for his standards, kaladze:same ****, gattuso typical gattuso performance (hope he has lots of tank in the gas for man u), ronaldo is adapting and since his fitness is obviously not there so he's becoming a finisher (i lvoe how he made a tap in look so cheaky), oli tried and was involved but made lil impact, gourcuff dissapointed me and provided little or no creativity from a supposed creative player, kalac made 2 good tackles and was alright.

overall nice performance against a relegation team that can often cause trouble for top teams, and over the years milan have a habbit of having trouble with these. so it's nice to see a 2nd string team win it so easily (although calgliari dint help their case) especially considering the past 2 years our 2nd string team has struggled to win before big matches

Posted by: Darunia Apr 21 2007, 10:01 PM

Kalac - 6 Didn't have much to do.
Cafu - 8 2 assists! Made incredible runs up the right and great crosses.
Simic - 5.5 Run ragged by Suazo at times.
Kaladze - 3 Terrible, dived in for a stupid penalty and got sent off for a shirt tug.
Favalli - 6 Solid, but didn't do much and outpaced by Suazo at times
Gattuso - 6.5 Won a lot of balls, had a pretty good game.
Brocchi - 6 Worked hard on both sides of the ball.
Gourcuff - 5.5 Just lacked something today
Seedorf- 7 Very good, actually pretty fast today
Oliveira - 6 Not bad, not great. Had a couple good shots.
Ronaldo - 8 Great game, finished his chances for the most part

SUBS:

I personally thought Gourcuff was great, especially in the first half, he and Seedorf were combining briliiantly together and were cutting the Cagliari defence wide open with their passing

I think he atleast deserves a 6.5

Heres a shot out to Ronaldo and all the fans on this site that doubted him and called him Fatnaldo or whatever. In your face. He has showed up Gilardino and all of our strikers. He has provided a lethal option that I knew we needed.

RONALDO is the man and making a great comeback with the red and black.

I was at the San Siro when he made his starting debut.

Posted by: arivanjj Apr 22 2007, 08:23 AM

yes before he came, i don't think anyone really wanted him here. but hey, he proved himself.

great performance by Milan in total, but absolutely crap game for the georgian.

I watched the game earlier today so here's some things I felt like mentioning:

We played a good game. In fact, having in mind the line-up it was a very good game. For the first time this season the team defended and attacked as a unit. I don't wanna give ratings but I think the best player was the whole squad! Particularly our defensive function was very good, bravo ragazzi!

Seedorf played a very good game, he ripped them off in the first half and saved energy in the second, unlike the dumbas_ Gattuso who run everywhere like he's going to play again in a month... I can't believe some of you guys and gals think Rino could be Milan's captain, the guy's playing exactly the way he was at 21!

I really liked Gourcuff. He helped a lot in attack in the first half, with his speed and pace and good passing but he equally helped the defence too! In the 2nd half he played a different role that doesn't suit him thus he wasn't involved much but still helped the defence a lot!

All our ten (...) men combined brilliantly and managed to stop Cagliari's 12! Great work in the penalty they won though, that's what I call teamwork! I hope we'll play with 11 from now on... rolleyes.gif

We should get Suazo! I really like him. Borriello... I don't even know why he's at Milan!? And then Oliveira is pretty much a flop... if we don't have a good offer I'd like Milan to keep him for another reason with the risk of dropping his price even more. We certainly need a new forward (even if R20 comes) cause Pippo is gonna be 35 soon...

Ambro! I've always been thinking that he reminds me of somebody... and then today, it hit me! He's that short blond Frenchie, Astérix!!

Don't you think?

And last but absolutely not least!! I'm in love!!!!!!! Somebody please tell me who was the brunette sitting in front and on the left of Galliani!! Please somebody tell me, I NEED to find her, I'm off to Milan as soon as I know her name!! Please... help me, I'm dying here!!!!!!!!! Please! cry.gif wub.gif

And who are these guys?? They're kinda scary.

Posted by: dst Apr 23 2007, 12:13 AM

She was also shown in Gourcuff's substitution (I guess only cause she was next to Galliani?)... maybe she's Janku's wife or Yoann's mother?
