AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Archive 08/09 _ Moscow Railway Tournament!

Posted by: Tennie Jul 30 2008, 01:53 PM

From July 31 through August 3, Milan are going to Moscow to play in a 4-way friendly - the Moscow Railway Tournament - with Lokomotiv Moscow, Chelsea and Sevilla.

Edited to show this year's teams, not last year's. Thanks, Misha!

Posted by: Tennie Jul 30 2008, 01:55 PM

Here are the call ups for the tournament:

MILANO - Questi i 21 rossoneri convocati dal tecnico Carlo Ancelotti per la trasferta di Mosca:
Dida 1, Kalac 16, Abbiati 12
Antonini 77, Bonera 25, Digao 31, Favalli 19, Jankulovski 18, Kaladze 4, Maldini 3, Oddo 2, Simic 17, Zambrotta 15
Ambrosini 23, Brocchi 32, Flamini 84, Gattuso 8, Pirlo 21
Kakà 22, Paloschi 43, Seedorf 10

Today's training has taken place.

The team worked on muscle strengthening exercises in warmup. Maldini, Emerson, and Dida trained with the group.

Some of the team (Simic, Maldini, favalli, Bonera, Jankulovski, Brocchi, Digao, Aubameyang, Antonini, Paloschi, Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Zambrotta and Emerson) then worked on agility drills alternating with an obstacle course of sorts (this is my best translation, it still sounds funny).

Following this, Gattuso, Zambrotta and Simic worked with Mauro Tassotti: running the perimeter of the pitch and then working on sprints and stretching.

Jankulovski, Favalli, Bonera, Digao, Aubemeyang and Antonini did work on rhythm alternating with a series of sprints, under the watchful eyes of Filippo Galli.

Seedorf, Inzaghi, Kaladze and Flamini trained in the gym.

Dida took part in training and also worked on rapidity and elasticity (? that's how it translates) drills.

Tomorrow the team will have morning training and will then head to Moscow.

We played vs PSV, Real Madrid and Lokomotiv last year. This time it's vs Lokomotiv Moscow, Chelsea and Sevilla.

Our first game is on Friday August 1st vs. Sevilla.

Today's training has taken place.

After warmup, the players divided into small groups to work on performance testing. The NT players worked to complete the preparations that the rest of the team had already doen.

Gattuso, Simic, and Zambrotta worked on the central pitch: Gattuso did aerobic work while Simic and Zambrotta worked on resistance tests.

Pirlo and Ambrosini worked on the lower pitch, doing 100 meter drills and specific work.

Kaka, after doing the first part of training in the gym, did exercises on the upper pitch.

Paloschi did specific work in the gym.

Seedorf, Maldini and Emerson worked in the sand pit.

Digao, Kaladze, Favalli, Antonini, Gianola, Jankulovski, Usuji and Strasser worked on performance tests of 30 and 10 meters.

Abbiati and Kalac worked with goalkeeper coach Vecchi while Dida did specific work.

An hour or so after traning ended, the players boarded the team bus to go to Malpensa for the flight to Moscow.

I might be really brave and try to follow the text commentary in Russian. I'll be at work, sadly.

Anyway, here's acmilan.com's english translation of what Carletto said at Malpensa just before the flight to Moscow:

ON THE MOSCOW TOURNAMENT
"Now we go to play these two games hoping to do well. They are important tests and we will certainly meet two strong teams."

ON THE NEXT LEAGUE
"I think the next league season will be much more balanced compared to last year because all the teams have done good things on the transfer market and the quality has definitely improved."

MARKET MOVES
"Paloschi is staying because he is the only striker we have available along with Kaká so he will play these two matches. The Uruguayans, meanwhile, will train with us. Cardacio is a national team player. Viudez, meanwhile, is an '89 player, he's a bit younger. They will train with us and then we will see in twenty days if he will train with the Primavera or if he'll stay with us."

ON THE GOALKEEPERS
"The competition? It has to help everyone, not only Seedorf. Also between the keepers, it's not necessary that it's the same one the whole year. There can be some drops in form, but I don't think the turn-over makes much sense, even though right now Abbiati is not advantaged over Kalac."

INJURIES SITUATION
"Borriello has a problem which he will solve quickly. So we have to wait for him. Sheva meanwhile will play his season at Chelsea. Nesta still has to rest. Maldini, meanwhile, is fine."

Nesta needs to get better fast!

And it would seem that the deal for the Uruguayan kids is for real.

They never shut their mouth, from kick off to the end of the game he'd talk about all kinds of whaky stuff, give players funny nicknames and mix up between players.
He once mistaken seedorf for gattuso .... now that takes skill

Tidbits from the press conference in Moscow today (italian from acmilan.com, my translation):

Carlo Ancelotti
"Speriamo di vincere questo torneo, la filosofia del Milan è quella di dare sempre il massimo. Per quanto riguarda la situazione delgi infortunati, Inzaghi sarà recuperato entro quindici giorni. Per Nesta invece i tempi ancora non possono essere precisi.

[We hope to win this tournament, Milan's philosophy is to always do its best. As regards the injured players, Inzaghi will be recuperated in 15 days. For Nesta, his return time is uncertain.]

Riguardo alla situazione dei portieri il Mister ha specificato che: ''Dida sarà pronto per l'inizio del campionato. Intanto ci sono Kalac e Abbiati. I dubbi verranno sciolti presto".

[Regarding the keeper situation: 'Dida will be ready for the start of the championship. In the meantime, there are Kalac and Abbiati. The doubts will soon be resolved.]

Paolo Maldini
"A Mosca farò il mio esordio stagionale, sto bene e sono pronto. In questo torneo faremo del nostro meglio".

[My season debut will be in Moscow. I feel well and I am ready. We'll do our best in this tournament.]

Honestly, out of Kalac and Abbiati [Dida aside as he's not available] who's the better 'keeper based on latest performances? Abbiati. doesn't matter if he acted like a pig when he was in Juve. we don't have to have 11 Maldini's on the pitch. we need our best players out there. personally I can disregard his comments as long as he's performing in the goal.

Posted by: Il Capitano Aug 1 2008, 03:23 PM

I'll just have to wait a while longer to evaluate him.

Sounds like Milan started to wake up a touch toward the end of the half. It also sounds like the team's still to get to real match fitness despite the TIM tourney earlier this week. Abbiati has had some good saves, judging by the text commentary. Lessee what happens in the second half.

Posted by: CrazyMilanFan Aug 1 2008, 04:47 PM

milan has not been gud at all

Posted by: rhy_A4 Aug 1 2008, 04:48 PM

well we can take 5 minutes of that half we played good in the other 40 we were as Porty said we're just watching..step it up a gear or two

Posted by: misha Aug 1 2008, 04:53 PM

Sevilla winning the center field, we are allowing too many middle range shots and our attacking game is not existing at all as we are going forward with max 3 players most of the time. All in all a pretty boring game.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Aug 1 2008, 05:01 PM

Kaka' is not 100% ... In fact, he isn't even taking the chances; I guess he just wants to be safe, considering he just had surgery.

Paloschi is not exactly Pippo ...

The team as a whole has been average, because Milan's attack is not in it's best shape. Yet the DMs and defenders are doing a good job.

It's a chance for the team to gain match fitness ... I don't really expect much, but I think the second half ought to be better.

12, please. sad.gif He hasn't been the same since our CL triumph. Before that he was half decent. It saddens me to say this that he has a good part in where we are now. To tell you the truth I wasn't that impressed by Ambro, he did nothing useful when he was in the midfield, he was more impressive when playing as a left wing forward which should tell you something about how he played in midfied. Rino was better then he was last season, lets forget the own goal because it was a difficuilt decision for him to make in a split second and he chose the wrong one. But even though he was fouling a lot he won the ball a lot more then Ambro did

Other then that we were terrible in all areas except fot Abbiati who again played a great solid match and there was nothing he could do on that goal, got to say Rino headded it in like a pro cf biggrin.gif

wow that was worldclass by gattuso. haha, who needs forewards when we got ringho.

Posted by: Mook Aug 2 2008, 03:55 AM

We definitely looked like a team who were in preseason. Very sloppy on the ball. Either we used it badly or lost it easily. Even though its preseason, not a great sign when chances are this will be the midfield for matchday 1. Defensively we looked rocky as usual, some unconvincing clearances and poor defending in the final third. I've pretty much accepted at times were going to look like that defensively, just hoping we manage to grind out and not concede when these times come. If Nesta doesn't play most of the games this season, we'll probably need 2-3 goals a game to get a win.

At least Abbiati showed another impressive performance. Surely Carlo would have to be reconsidering the #1 spot, even though Kalac probably earned first crack at the job from his performances last season. I actually had confidence that he wouldn't concede, unlike when the other two are in goals and any shot on target you feel could be a threat of being in the net. Then Rino decided to test him with a perfect diving header and beat him stone cold. biggrin.gif

Going to be an interesting game against Chelsea. There pretty much full strength and we have one forward and Kaka' just slowly regaining his fitness. Anyway can't see us winning personally, just hoping Sheva doesn't score against us. If nothing else he's in the same form he was when he left us, with the missed penalty.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Aug 2 2008, 04:14 AM

If Sheva scores, I won't know whether to laugh or cry.

Posted by: Tennie Aug 2 2008, 04:19 AM

It'll be interesting to see what he'd do if he did score against Milan.

I remember Rui Costa's first game against Benfica, right after he'd been transferred to Fiorentina. He scored a lovely goal (I think it was from a Batistuta assist) and then just broke down - he couldn't bear scoring against Benfica.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Aug 2 2008, 04:26 AM

I still like Sehva.. but if he celebrates I'll be very disappointed. If he celebrates in a manner which suggests he regards Chelsea higher than Milan, like kissing the badge, thumping the badge, etc. I'll lose a whole tonne of respect.

Posted by: Habitant Aug 2 2008, 05:52 AM

^^ he wont, alot has changed since he kissed the badge after he scored against liverpool. i think the excitement of joining a new team, thinking they were going to win lots, working with abromovich, etc got to him.

i dont see the benefit of him doing something dumb like that, nothing to gain really.

If that. He played only twice so far he got something like 10 - 15 minutes against Malaysia and what h eplayed yesterday.

To be honest I don't know what he would do if he scored a goal considering how long he's been waiting to get a serious chance and actually scoring. So you never know, he might get a bit over excited

I think Sheva will celebrate but not in a way to piss our players or the fans off. I expect a light celebration IF (what a big if that is!) he manages to score.

MOSCA: MATTINATA LIBERA DEDICATA AI BAMBINI BISOGNOSI
02/08/2008

(from article on acmilan.com; my translation of the Italian)

Today's training has taken place.

Kakà, Oddo, Seedorf and Ambrosini stayed at the hotel, training in the gym.

The other players did warmups and some running and stretching. Then there were ball possession drills and a practice game that only lasted 15 minutes due to a violent thunderstorm that lasted nearly an hour.

After the training, Carletto had a press conference. Here's what he said.

"I haven't decided on the starting lineup for tomorrow's game, I need to evaluate the condition of some players and I'll do that tomorrow. Flamini will certainly play and Maldini will also play a half. The answers I'm expecting are more in the defensive sector because we've got too many absences in attack to really evaluate them. The defense has alread improved - they were better against Sevilla than in the Trofeo Tim.

"In attack we've got Kaka, Pato, Seedorf and Inzaghi. I'm curious to see what the Kaka-Pato-Ronaldinho trio will do. I think they could do well. We'll see whether Dinho and Pato return after the Olympics or go directly to Brazil for Brazil World Cup qualifications. It depends on how Brazil does - if they get to the final, it's silly to make them come back to Italy, otherwise they'll come to Milanello before the qualifiers.

"Ambrosini in the center of defense? It's an emergency hypothesis. We hope in any event to have Nesta back as soon as possible.

"Sheva? It'll be an occasion to greet him, we at Milan have never forgotten him. It's the first time we'll face him as an opponent.

Flamini also spoke at the press conference: "I'm very satisfied with my initial period at Milan. I'm trying to do my best. After the little problems I've had the last few days, I'm completely fit and I'm ready to play tomorrow. For me, it's an important game because as an ex-Arsenal player a game against Chelsea is like a derby."

Also galliani had some words , He is very happy about 2 Uruguyans , in defense they are not going to buy even if they should use Ambrosini as a central and finally Sheva will stay in Chelsea !!

Why would Ronaldinho and Pato go directly to brazil for the World cup qualification? So will the world cup qualification would affect them playin in Milan?

The fish doll gives Armiss another cookie. 96.gif

He covered the high points of Galliani's press conference very well.

The only thing I'll add is that the 'Ambro as centerback' idea is Galliani's, not Ancelotti's.

Posted by: Tennie Aug 2 2008, 05:29 PM

There's a FIFA match day in early September, at which there will be World Cup qualifying games. What Galliani is saying is that if Brazil get to the finals, for example (August 23), it's a little silly to make them fly back to Italy for ten days and then turn around and fly to Brazil for a game on Sept. 6. (Note: the other internationals on the Milan squad will also be released to play World Cup qualifiers on this day if called up).

You guys are going to give the fish doll a big head for all this talk esteeming the cookies!

Kaka DID train separately in the hotel today (so did a couple of other guys).

Posted by: CrazyMilanFan Aug 2 2008, 09:16 PM

Kaka has been ruled out of Milan’s Russian Railways Cup match with Chelsea due to suspected tendonitis.

The club released an official statement this evening confirming he would be undergoing a specialist training schedule over the next few days due to “a persistent inflammation of the left knee.”

This is causing concern because that was the knee that required surgery at the end of last season.

He pulled up during Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla, also in Moscow for the Russian Railways Cup, and was substituted.

There are reports swirling around the Brazilian media that this latest setback is much more serious than at first thought.

O Globo claim it is tendonitis and Kaka must rest for at least two weeks in order to fully recover. The Milan statement does not deny that is the case, although it tries to paint it in less dramatic terms.

It would be a disastrous blow for the Rossoneri, who already have a major striker shortage at the moment.

Marco Borriello is out for two months, Pippo Inzaghi is sidelined with muscular problems, while Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato are at the Olympics with Brazil.

This means the only fit striker at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal is teenager Alberto Paloschi.

Milan face Chelsea in Moscow to decide third place in the Russian Railways Cup on Sunday at 11.00 UK time.

things are not looking gud with all these injuries to our non replacable players nesta and kaka hopefully they recover in time for the start of the season

Posted by: gal_kenny Aug 2 2008, 09:24 PM

Dang this is Disastrous..Kaka is injured...We desperately need to go back into the market to buy players..We really need help..I pray it doesn' happen, but wat if pato or ronaldinho get injured then we're so screwed..I hope this injuries are sending Galliani a message...We need a striker, a CB and AM...See if we didn't sell Abate he would have been of help...Pavlyuchenko preferrably would work...I don't know why milan can't buy him..Look at inter..Immediately their players were injured...they went back into the market to find a replacement..But Milan wouldn't do so..

Posted by: Tennie Aug 2 2008, 09:31 PM

There's no need to think this is the apocalypse guys. smile.gif Kaka's knee is a little swollen - that's all we know. He's still coming back from surgery over the summer and isn't yet match fit. I don't think there's any reason to be too worried at this point on his status.

(A new striker would be nice right now though.)

That's cool..However, everybody always seem to be calm when ac milan players get injured...Its hard not to get injured in Serie A...However, I really don't think that our bench can make a difference compared to our first team....Look at Van de varrt...Would have been a very good signing...

Posted by: Tennie Aug 3 2008, 01:18 AM

You're forgetting that we've got a very good attacking midfielder that's just been purchased. Some Brazilian guy with bad teeth. biggrin.gif This may meen that Seedorf isn't benched, but he's hardly a BAD player.

Did you honestly expect anything else..

Our defence is a train wreck with or without Nesta. Nesta just makes it abit more stable. Chelsea's defence is superior to ours, like it or not. Kalac is just the icing on the cake tonight.

Kalac was completely at fault for the 3rd goal, pass back which he tried to belt clear and he had a fresh air shot and missed and Anelka tapped into an open net.

I'm a little curious, however. Is Kalac at fault for all 3 goals? Sounds like he was nutmegged (from what my sleepy brain can make of the Italian text) for the first one and that the third was definitely his fault.

Posted by: han2503 Aug 3 2008, 11:59 AM

Kalac is just terrible today I think this proves that his 1 month of glory was nothing but a hoax. He should go back to being 3rd choice, Carlo should not have played him to begin with. You've got a keeper who is performing really well, and what does he go and do? Choose Kalac over him rolleyes.gif

Got to say the overall decision making on Carlo's part has been terrible. Ambro as a center formward, Zambro playing as a wing forward rolleyes.gif

Hopefully he switches to this

Zambro--Bonera--Simic--Janku
-----Rino---Flamini---Ambro----
---------Pirlo----Seedorf---------
-------------Paloschi-------------

Maybe we can pick some of our pride off the ground rolleyes.gif

And the guys on Chelsea TV are going on and on about how they are skimming Milan rolleyes.gif I know Carlo's options are limited but come on, worst tactics and formation he's probably ever put out

Well, han, think of it this way: it's a pre-season friendly. Better that Kalac have his howler NOW when it doesn't count than, say, against Juve in the league. His screwing up now is going to clearly show without ANY doubt that Abbiati deserves to start.

EDIT: Another question for those of you watching: from what I can gather (trying to read Italian on no sleep is proving harder to my thought process than I'd imagined) from the text commentary, it would appear that Gattuso and Pirlo are at least trying to do something - is this accurate? Are they at least not sucking?

Also re defenders - I like Canini, Santacroce, Neves (if we can't get a good Italian).

Carlo should not have played him to begin with. You've got a keeper who is performing really well, and what does he go and do? Choose Kalac over him

Probably because we bombed out early and had nothing to play for.

Who for?

Seedorf , Kaladze and Digao for Ambrosini, Maldini and Simic.

Oh, no. 4-0.

Hat trick for Anelka, whom we were reportedly interested in at the end of the season.
