2 and a half

Carlo said that both Rino and Kaka will most probably be rested for this one.

So it will either be a trident, with Gila, R9 and Oli or a 4-4-2 with Brocchi and Sergio on the wings

Milan must win against Ascoli.

I think it's a very realistic target, six points away from Lazio who still have Roma, Inter and Fiorentina to play.

Definately a big possibility

Not exactly...I'd rather we topped among the penalized sides.

And to finish beneath Lazio is kinda annoying. Too much loss of respect.

Plus finishing third gives the team more room to rest their conscience b4 focusing on the CL Final

Posted by: Darunia Apr 15 2007, 08:38 PM

I'd go with this lineup:

-------------------Dida---------------------
Oddo----Nesta----Maldini/Bonera--Janku
Gourcuff---------Pirlo----------Ambrosini
-------------------Seedorf-----------------
----------Gilardino---------Oli-------------

3 games in 6 days is too much for Ronaldo, that's why he should get a rest here.

I think Palermo has an excellent squad .. They could win against Inter and Roma on a good day. But recently, they have been losing and losing, and I don't think that Palermo actually lost so much, but Palermo let go of it.

Guys, we shouldn't underestimate Ascoli. Although they're obviously the worst team in Serie A they drawed against Lazio. Anyway, my prediction 2-0 for us.

What I was thinking.

They always give us a hard time, no matter what type of form we're in.

They will try to build a wall infront of their goal, and secondly they have that damn Pagliuca in goal mad.gif

I personally would go for this line-up, seeing as Carlo already confirmed Rino and Kaka out to take a rest.

Oddo--Bonera--Nesta--Favalli
Yaonn--Brocchi--Pirlo--Sergio
---------Gila--Oli/R9-----------

I would still start Nesta and Oddo, and then rest them again against Cagliari. Favalli has been doing really well on the left, so he should play again. Brocchi or Ambro next to Pirlo but I would prefer Brocchi since we cannot risk Ambro getting injured.

Sergio should definately start since we need him to get back into form. Just imagine him up against Nevile or O'Shea when we play Man U

Gila seems a sure starter, and I don't know if R9 is ready yet to play 2 games in such a short time span

Posted by: jefri91 Apr 16 2007, 02:03 PM

R99 needs to start on his diet plan or else >:(

Posted by: redbabies Apr 16 2007, 02:57 PM

if both Kaka and Ronaldo get rested than it's gonne be difficult.

Oli and Gila can't do a sh!t alone, however both Kaka and Ronaldo need rest too,

at least I hope Seedorf plays.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Apr 16 2007, 03:04 PM

We have Ronaldo .. He should play, Carlo could rest the whole team, and since we've got Ronaldo, there is nothing to worry about

Posted by: Darunia Apr 16 2007, 05:17 PM

Don't know if Ronaldo can play 3 games in 6 days, I'd rest him here and start him for Cagliari. He can come on in the 2nd half if we're in trouble.

Posted by: han2503 Apr 16 2007, 06:14 PM

I don't think Ronaldo will play.

So it might be Oli and Gila who start.

Football Italia Preview:

Ascoli - Milan

Serie A Week 22 - 18/4/07 (16.30 UK) Stadio Del Duca

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan travel to Ascoli for the second time this season after the original Week 22 tie was postponed after the Catania riots. The Rossoneri were struggling back then, but they now find themselves in the top four. Meanwhile, little has changed for their hosts…

The home side are bottom and four points behind closest rivals Messina and Serie B football undoubtedly awaits the Bianconeri. However, they haven’t given up hope entirely after they twice went ahead against Lazio on Sunday – only to be pegged back. But they showed they can still cause the big boys trouble and there is plenty of fight left in them yet.

Ascoli tactician Nedo Sonetti looks like going for three at the back as part of a 3-4-1-2 set-up, in an attempt to close down Milan’s talented midfield. Paolo Foglio may play on the right with Stefano Lombardi covering central defence, where Foglio played last game. Stefano Guberti could also lose his place in favour of Michele Fini who will play behind the strikers. The banned Sasa Bjelanovic is likely to be replaced by Michele Paolucci, who may start alongside Sunday’s scorer Andrea Soncin.

Milan seem determined not to leave winning the Champions League as their only way of qualifying for it next season. To that end they have worked very hard this term and the arrival of Massimo Oddo and Ronaldo has steadied what was at one point a slightly wobbly ship. Last time out they beat a struggling Messina with a resounding 3-1. Goals from Kaka, Giuseppe Favalli and Ronaldo settled it.

It looks like a 4-3-1-2 this time, with quite a few changes all happening at the back. Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini may start as the central pair, in place of Daniele Bonera and Kakha Kaladze, while wing-backs Favalli and Marcos Cafu may have to watch from the bench as Massimo Oddo and Marek Jankulovski come back after their Cup success in Germany. Further forward it looks like being Ronaldo and Alberto Gilardino, with Kaka behind in the hole where he is so dangerous.

Man on fire: Kaka (Milan) – The Brazilian has had an up and down season, but since Ronaldo’s arrival he has done amazingly. He’s now back to his very best.

Last season: Ascoli 1-1 Milan

Form guide: Ascoli (W L L L D) Milan (L W D W W)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ascoli (probable): Eleftheropoulos; Nastase, Corallo, Lombardi; Foglio, Di Biagio, Boudianski, Pesce; Fini, Soncin, Paolucci

Milan (probable): Dida; Oddo, Nesta, Maldini, Jankulovski; Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gourcuff; Kaka; Gilardino, Ronaldo

DIDA A RIPOSO PER 48 ORE
16/04/2007
Well, Serie A was never our target, the important thing is that we remain in the CL slots and our second tier team can do just that.

Kalac is good for a bench player and has showed, when called upon, that he can keep a clean sheet. We have Simic, Kala, and Bonera to step in for Nesta ... So I think we are in safe hands wink.gif

I don't think Ronie will start.

Carlo said he hasn't recoverd yet. I'm assuming it will be Oli and Gila.

Also now Carlo said that Kaka could start but could be taken off early in the game.

I think using Seedorf in the hole for this one would have been enough and giving Kaka a full game rest.

Kalac is our number 2 keeper so I'm assuming that he will be taking over until Dida gets back.

How I wish for those days when we had someone like Abbiati on the bench

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Apr 17 2007, 06:10 PM

Abbiati was a first team player ... And he wouldn't want anything less than that ... As a 2nd Gkeeper, I think Kalac is good enough for a club like Milan.

I do admit, I wouldnt say no to Abbiati as our 2nd keeper, but I think it is clear he wants first team football and I wouldn't start anyone ahead of Dida, unless it is Buffon biggrin.gif

Kalac will give a good performance *I hope*

Ancelotti has Ronaldo doubt

Carlo Ancelotti has warned that Ronaldo may not be fit to play against Ascoli tomorrow afternoon, but he will not be resting his stars.

“I will rotate the squad a little bit in defence, but Kaka will play from the start and stay on until I see signs of weakening,” noted the Milan tactician.

“Clarence Seedorf and Massimo Ambrosini rested at the weekend, so they can return to midfield, while Andrea Pirlo will also start. Ronaldo has to fully recover before he can play and until now that is not the case.

“We could see Ronaldo and Alberto Gilardino upfront or Ricardo Oliveira and Gilardino. In the current situation, I would not talk about Ronaldo in the initial line-up.”

A certain absence is Nelson Dida, as the goalkeeper has suffered a recurring shoulder injury and is now a major doubt for the Champions League semi-final with Manchester United.

“Unfortunately this shoulder problem is nothing new, but we will do everything we can to get him back for Manchester. In any case, Zeljko Kalac is in good shape.
“Paolo Maldini, Pippo Inzaghi and Cristian Brocchi aren’t fit yet, so we won’t take risks with them. Marcos Cafu and Serginho will stay behind to work on their best form.”

The Rossoneri travel to the Stadio Del Duca against an Ascoli side that is propping up the table and almost mathematically doomed to relegation.

“This team is alive and, just like Messina on Sunday, gambling with their last throw of the dice. This is a great opportunity for us to go four points clear of Palermo and that advantage in fourth place would give us a certain confidence. There is still a long road to go for that Champions League spot though.”

Milan still have a good chance of winning the European trophy this season, despite their difficult start in Serie A.

“That competition is a great satisfaction for anyone who wins it. When a big club starts the season they think of taking everything, not creating a list of preferences.”

Some say that the European result will decide whether Ancelotti remains on his bench next season.

“My contract expires at the end of next term. I hope to extend it, but I haven’t spoken to the club yet.”

Inter-Roma, title match at the same hour. I believe I'm gonna watch it, it's the only one live in SportTV.

I just want the 3 points in Ascoli. No mather if it's only 0-1. It's enough.

Good news. I played Winning Eleven 11 with full stats for Ascoli and Milan, Milan being away and also going to www.goal.com to make the formations the same on my ps2.
Ascoli 1 - Milan 5
Ronaldo scoring a hat trick and Gilardino scoring a double, Ronaldo missing a penalty ( IM SORRY sad.gif ) and Gila almost scoring a goal it looks like Milan have decided to relax in the last 15 minutes ohmy.gif
In injury time Ascoli manage to score a header by a corner kick that Cariello meets at the end of it.

Defensive lapses still an issue, but yeh obviously nesta and bonera need more together in the centre.

Ronnie and kaka' prob get subbed off now.. hopefully ronnie can get one before he goes off.

I agree with dst unleash favalli.. he'll get a hat-trick in this one.

Serie A Report: Five In Sixteen Minutes As Milan Slaughter Ascoli

It’s raining goals from the Rossoneri as Milan consolidated their hold on fourth place in Serie A and closed in on a Lazio who were only capable of a stale draw at the Olímpico. The Del Duca performance leaves Milan pumped up to ensure a CL place next season whereas Ascoli had the stripes beaten off them despite two goals and now look at a tough struggle to avoid the drop...

Ascoli 2 - 5 AC Milan

The Rossoneri had been hit with a mini injury blight of late as Dida, Cafú, Maldini and Brocchi were all laid up and out of action. Nevertheless, Ancelotti’s men went for the win like a pit-bull goes for a toddler.

Lombardi beat his side’s own offside trap as Ronaldo flicked the ball to Gilardino (3 min) to finish the move off and put the 0-1 up in lights. The Fenômeno did hit the back of the net, but the number 99’s effort was disallowed by an arguable offside call.

There was a speedy bit of samba as Ronaldo and Kaka screamed forward in a breakneck counter attack, Eleftheropoulos bringing the ex-Real Madrid man down for a penalty, but it was Kakà (25 min) who converted the kick to make it 0-2 and start off a furious burst of scoring.

Gilardino (27 min) wasn’t too proud not to go down on his knees and nod in a Marek Jankulovski cross.

Ascoli came back temporarily as Guberti ran between the Milan centre-backs and Kalac returned Eleftheropoulos’ favour by giving away a penalty that Luigi Di Biagio (33 min) converted.

Ronaldo lucked out through an offside call as the Brazilian scored again but the goal didn’t stand. Kakà (25 min) followed up with a trademark wire-guided missile that flew past a flying Eleftheropoulos at the near post.

Ascoli narrowed the gap again as Milan lost focus with the break coming up and the dizzying sequence of goals, both allowed and disallowed. Corallo sold the Rossoneri defense a dummy that they bought wholesale and Guberti (41 min) angled a drive into the far corner.

The second half started with a little déjà vu as Paolucci had his goal disallowed for shoving Bonera on the edge of Kalac’s box and the action was decidedly less energetic than the first half, both Ascoli and Milan seemingly having exhausted their goal scoring ability and margin for error.

The scoreline moved just once after the hectic first half, Clarence Seedorf (75 min) chesting down an Andrea Pirlo pass and lobbing an Eleftheropoulos who must have been longing for the final whistle and a huge glass of Ouzo.

With the three points safely in the bag, Ancelotti gave Milan fans a new face as he made 22 year-old Argentinean defender Leandro Grimi debut in Serie A, although the ex-Huracan player had made his official debut with the Rossoneri in a Coppa Italia match against Serie B team Arezzo (2-0).

Subs: 25 M Bonanni, 20 G Perrulli, 24 M Del Vecchio, 8 M Fini, 32 V Nastase, 22 G Vastola, 1 G Pagliuca

GOAL: Ascoli 0, Milan 1. Alberto Gilardino (3 min - Milan) The Rossoneri front line worked well as Gila right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner after being set up by an unselfish Ronaldo.

GOAL: Ascoli 0, Milan 2. Penalty conceded by Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos as the local goalie fouls Ronaldo Fenômeno in the penalty area. Kakà (25 min - Milan) Kakà converts the penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner.

GOAL: Ascoli 0, Milan 3. Alberto Gilardino (27 min - Milan) headed in from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal, netting a good Marek Jankulovski cross.

GOAL: Ascoli 1, Milan 3. Luigi Di Biagio (33 min - Ascoli) The keeper-centred spot kicks continued as Zeljko Kalac fouled Stefano Guberti in the penalty area, but the last goal scorer cedes the spot kick to Di Biagio who converts the penalty with a right footed shot to the centre of the goal.

GOAL: Ascoli 1, Milan 4. Kakà (35 min - Milan) Simone Pesce concedes a corner and the number 22 connects a vicious right footed shot from into Eleftheropoulos’ bottom right-hand corner.

GOAL: Ascoli 2, Milan 4. Stefano Guberti (41 min - Ascoli) Simone Pesce used a set piece situation to set the Bianconeri up for right-footer that beat Kalac from the left side of the box.

wow!! just got back from work to find this result nothing short of amazing!!
5 goals away from home, gila scores 2 things just seem to be getting better i knew my optimism wasn't unjustified and the season would come to some sort of minor success considering are position at the start of the season and are dodgy patch. now 1 defeat in 20 league games and now we could end up in 3rd place and in the C.L final all i can say is forza milan

I just finished watching the game and I have to say, attacking-wise we were marvelous in the first half, much less effective in the second half without Kaka but defence-wise we sucked for the whole 90 minutes... Stupid passes and bad controls all over the box that have proved costly all season long were still there and the Nesta-Bonera duo was too bad even for a first-time partnership.

What I noticed is that both Janku and Oddo made a lot of runs and Marek in particular MUST DEFINITELY given some time out in Saturday's game!

Overall, it was a good game and we scored some beautiful goals!

Grazie Ragazzi!! smile.gif
