Thank fvck Dani Alves will probably be in Chelsea in the 31.
Sevilla have a great team even without him but Alves... he's something else.

Posted by: zdrossoneri Aug 18 2007, 07:28 PM

We're gonna get our @sses kicked by Sevilla! biggrin.gif they scare the hell out of me. somehow a reminder of Lyon in two or three years ago.

We better have an on form team (I know we won't...) because they're going to give us a hard time on August 31th!

Posted by: misha Aug 18 2007, 09:07 PM

They have played pretty good against Madrid last week but nothing we can't handle...

Sevilla owned Barcelona last year in the SuperCup.

I just hope our players do NOT go to the pitch with that prima-donna attitude like Ronaldinho, Messi and co. did last year.

Like Porty said, they humiliated Barca in last season's UEFA Supercup 3-0.

They are surely a tough team. let's see how they do in tonight's Spanish Supercup match...

If we take the game seriously and have Ronaldo at our disposal and they lose Alves to Chelsea, we can win.

It's not a matter of scoring goals actually. he just played poorly in Betis and Juve games... let's hope he'll find his top form ahead of this match (since he's had an injury in recent days).

I don't think he played poorly though. He was surely far from his best but he was not poor.

Anyway, Sevilla are clearly better so far in the second leg and Drenthe is Madrid's best. They made a great signing in him (as expected). I hate it, we should have gotten him and Sneijder instead and form a new Dutch power (maybe even a new Ducth trio along with Huntelaar)! sad.gif

Schuster shouldn't have put him in the starting XI so soon (especially since they have paid 30 million euro for him). it was too big for him to handle.

I know he is a good defender, but is that enough to be a Madrid defender? I doubt.

Even an experienced player like Cannavaro is playing poorly over there. that's what I tried to explain to Porty and he didn't accept. last night Madrid didn't have enough "experience". they had too many young 'talents' who couldn't perform as a team. they lacked players like Carlos (though Drenthe performed really well in that position), Beckham, Emerson, Helguera, Slagado, etc.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Aug 20 2007, 11:35 PM

In 10 days time, I think Milan will be 110% ready for this game.

I like the way Sevilla play, they are compact and (kind of like Greece 04 National team) play a very aggressive game. It will be an interesting match for our midfielders (as always rolleyes.gif ) as they will have to contain Sevilla's spark.

I predict this to be our formation ..

----------------------- Dida

---- Oddo ---Nesta -------- Kakha --- Sergio

--------Gattuso ------ Pirlo ------ Seedorf

------------------------ Kaka'

------------ Pippo --------------- Ronaldo

IMO this would be the most organized, tactically astute, experienced team Sevilla have ever played !

Even if they beat Barca, Madrid, hell throw Chelsea in the mix too ... I don't think that counts for anything when they play Milan. Sure our team might be old, but the wealth of experience and class that the team has will be on display for all fans and critics alike ! devilsmiley.gif

Alves Furious About Sevilla Rejection

Daniel Alves has revealed his dismay that Sevilla rejected Chelsea's offer to sign and feels let down by president José María Del Nido.

The Brazilian full-back has the subject of transfer speculation all summer and was expected to complete a big-money move to the Blues.

After having a €36m bid rejected, Chelsea have now bought Juliano Belletti from Barça and Alves has been left fuming that Sevilla scuppered his chance of a move.

"It is the opportunity of a lifetime and I want to leave," he said. "I am not going to let this chance pass.

"I am disappointed by the way I have been treated. In the four-and-a-half year that I have been here I have given everything and I wanted more respect.

"We had an agreement that if an offer came in that was above the asking price or a huge amount that they would properly think about.

"An offer of €36m is a lot and yet the club refused it.

"I feel disappointed the offer of €36m was accepted at first and then later on it was turned down. I thought that it would be accepted on Monday, but it was not."

Despite his anger, Alves made it clear that he only has issues with one person at Sevilla and holds no resentment towards the club.

"I do not want to talk badly of the club, because this is a matter between myself and the president," he continued.

"The fans understand what is going on because nobody in their right mind would accept an offer that would see their salary doubled."

Alves is now inline to be part of Sevilla's squad for the opening game of the season against Getafe, but did pick up a knock playing for Brazil against Norway in midweek.

"I have trained with the squad, but not like normal," he added. "I still have a bit of bother."

He's. The guy is pretty flexible too. He can also play as a center midfielder and as right midfielder, of course.

One thing is clear: Dani Alves is hugely disappointed and pissed off about the situation. he wants to leave Sevilla but they haven't let him go yet, not even for 36 million euro. if he play against Milan, I'm sure he will not give his best, there's no chance for Sevilla to get from Alves as much good performance as they used to.

I even hope that Dani do us a favor and sore an own goal!... tongue.gif

Seems like it's not that serious. Probably will miss the league game but'll be ready for the Super Cup (if Madrid won't buy him before biggrin.gif ).

Will he play on the 31 with only some hours left in the market? Hum... I doubt.

Chelsea, Madrid, Barcelona, United or Liverpool should open their pockets.

QUOTE
Sevilla's six appeal

Winning trophies has become a habit for Sevilla FC. Prior to their UEFA Cup triumph in 2006 they had not collected a significant piece of silverware since lifting the Copa del Rey in 1948. Their 4-0 victory against Middlesbrough FC in Eindhoven brought that barren run to an end. Ever since, Sevilla's greatest concern has been finding space in the trophy cabinet to house an ever-expanding collection.

Sustained success
The past 15 months represent a period of sustained success the like of which the Andalusian side have never known. Sevilla have won the UEFA Cup twice, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup since Juande Ramos took charge two summers ago. Now a fourth European trophy beckons as Sevilla defend the UEFA Super Cup against AC Milan on Friday. Having comprehensively beaten the 2006 European champions FC Barcelona 3-0 to win the competition last year, Sevilla return to the Stade Louis II in Monaco with every confidence they can do it again. "I think we're turning Sevilla into one of the great European clubs," midfielder Antonio Puerta told uefa.com. "We have a great team and Milan will have to respect us in the same way we respect them."

'Proud'
Milan will provide another indication of how far Seville have come in a short period. Judging by recent cup performances Sevilla have nothing to fear. Their thrilling 6-3 aggregate success against Real Madrid CF in the Spanish Super Cup last week was their fifth successive final victory. Of all those matches, RCD Espanyol pushed Sevilla furthest in May, taking the game to penalties after a 2-2 draw at Hampden Park before Puerta fired in the winning spot-kick. The 22-year-old only forced his way into the side on a regular basis for the first time last season after coming up through the ranks of his hometown club. "I never dreamed I would experience what is happening at the moment," he said. "I dreamed of playing for Sevilla but I never imagined I could win five titles in 15 months with the club. I'm proud to be from Sevilla."

Challenge
Goals from Renato, Frédéric Kanouté and Enzo Maresca defeated Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup last season, and Renato and Kanouté were back on the scoresheet at the Santiago Bernabéu last week as Sevilla's excellent early season form continued. That followed a 2-0 win against AEK Athens FC in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League that has put Sevilla on course for a place in the group stage for the first time. Rumours may be swirling concerning the futures of Juande Ramos and Daniel Alves, but the uncertainty has not affected performances as the Spanish season approaches. New signings Aquivaldo Mosquera, Tom de Mul, Khalid Boulahrouz and Seydou Keita are adapting well and Sevilla look well placed to challenge on both European and domestic fronts again.

Inzaghi goals
Milan too have been in good form and veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi is back among the goals in pre-season following his two-goal, match-winning display against Liverpool FC in the UEFA Champions League final in May. There may not be as much at stake on Friday as there was in Athens, but Inzaghi insists it is a game Milan will not want to lose. "Seville are undoubtedly a very good side [and] are playing extremely well," Inzaghi told uefa.com. "But we really want to start the season well and bring this cup home. It's a very prestigious trophy and we want to win it. I hope we play as well as Milan always do on the big occasions."

Experience
Milan are the only side to have won the UEFA Super Cup in successive years – 1989 and 1990 – and they will be looking to claim the trophy for a record fifth time, and the first since defeating FC Porto in 2003. The Rossoneri have featured in the competition seven times in all, another record, and Puerta believes the pressure will be on them to deliver again. "No one expected us to win five finals in so little time," he said. "We're growing little by little so to lose this match wouldn't be a disaster. We're here to enjoy it and if we get things right we'll have a chance. Milan are a big club and they are in a final they are almost obliged to win."

'Great form'
Success has come quickly for the 22-year-old whose emergence has coincided with the club's golden period. Whatever the result, Puerta is determined to enjoy it while he can. "We know we're not going to win five titles every year, but we want to make the most of our great form and try to extend our good run," he said. Beat the European champions for a second year in a row and despite their recent success, Sevilla fans might be forgiven for thinking the best is yet to come.

It's possible.

But let's face it: Barcelona don't need ofensive fullbacks playing the 4-3-3 or even with the 'fantastic 4' - that's why they've Abidal and Zambrotta for this season.

Well, those options are really in everyone favor. Its like choosing between Ronaldo and Romario, or something like that. 80% of us will agree on Monica and Liv. Still, I prefer some other, more personal choices,..

Why did noone (sorry if I`m wrong.. unsure.gif ) suggested Kanoute as a possible transfer for us? I mean, we reached the bottom with suggestions like Santa Cruz, Makaay or my pathetic Cisse option..
The problem with him is that he is 29 (..old?..young?), and had some amazeing moments at Sevilla, so his value could be hyped. And he never hinted any chance of leaving Svilla.

For the game,..we can win, hopefully. My prediction: 2-1 for us (Yohann & Pippo goals)

But I'll tell you what though, if we play these guys with the same game plan we played against Liverpool, I don't think they stand a chance. They need a free flowing game to score, any cynicism from their opponents and they're stuck.

Kaka: Now Let's Think About Sevilla

The Brazilian midfielder proved that he's already reached a very good physical condition in this early part of the season.

Milan kicked-off their new season with an important and impressive 3-0 win away to Genoa at the Marassi stadium, with Ricky Kaka being the man of the match with two goals and a lot of good movements.

"I'm in form," admitted the Brazilian star, "But now let's thinking about Sevilla."

The Rossoneri will be facing the Spanish side, which won for the second consecutive year the Uefa Cup trophy, on Friday at Monaco in a game which Milan want to win to increase the number of silverware.

"We're in form right now, just like Sevilla, who won yesterday. I'm fine too, but I must still improve in the sprint."

With regards to yesterday's match, Kaka hopes that everything will go back to normal between the Genoa and Milan fans, and that in future there will not be the need to restrict the entrance to one set of fans.

"I hope that our fans can make peace with the Genoa ones," concluded Kaka.

Milan Already Gearing Up For Supercup Final

The Rossoneri are rounding up their players for the upcoming Supercup final against Sevilla in Montecarlo, with only Maldini and Ronaldo unavailable through injury.

Without even having the time to fully celebrate the convincing opening Serie A win at Genoa (3-0), Milan already have to start preparing for the match in Montecarlo against Sevilla on Friday night, which will assign the European Supercup, the first major objective for the Via Turati club.

Massimo Ambrosini will be a part of the game, as the results of today's x-ray exams were satisfactory. It's probable that new purchase Emerson will also be called up, considering that he took part in today's 7-a-side match. It's a different matter for Ronaldo, who seems to be on his way toward a full recovery, but he was still training on his own today along with an athletic preparator.

Captain Paolo Maldini is not fit yet and will certainly not be called up, but for the rest coach Carlo Ancelotti has a full squad available for this mouth-watering clash between the European champions and the Uefa Cup winners. The Rossoneri and Sevilla both made winning starts to the new league season, as Sevilla also got a big win, defeating Getafe 4-1 at home last weekend.

Posted by: GULLIVER Aug 28 2007, 08:34 AM

I thought Ronaldo will be available also. I'd like to see Ronaldo- Pipo pair up front in Euro games.

UEFA: Super Cup goes ahead
Tuesday 28 August, 2007
UEFA have decreed the European Super Cup Milan-Sevilla will go ahead as a tribute to Antonio Puerta, who tragically died today.

The 22-year-old player collapsed on Saturday during the Liga game with Getafe and, although he walked off the pitch, suffered five cardiac arrests before he lost his fight for life in hospital.

Although UEFA have rescheduled tonight’s Champions League preliminary round tie with AEK Athens, the August 31 European Super Cup will go ahead as planned.

“The match will be a tribute to Antonio Puerta,” said UEFA spokesman William Gaillard.

Milan have suspended all communication with the media and Press Conferences ahead of the match in Monaco as a sign of respect.

The football world has been stunned by the death of this talented young player, especially after revelations he had collapsed twice before in training.

“One cannot put any blame on the emergency team that gave First Aid, but I can say that the player had precedent and in Italy we are very severe on situations like this,” explained former Inter chief of medical staff Piero Volpi.

Volpi was the doctor who gave Nwankwo Kanu a medical after he signed from Ajax and spotted a serious cardio-vascular dysfunction that meant he risked his life every time he stepped on to the field.

The Nigerian underwent surgery and was out for over a year before carrying on his career.

“In Italy we have very in-depth medical exams that are obligatory and in almost all cases find any doubts over the readiness of a player to compete in sport.”

Puerta’s case is on the latest in a series of shocking incidents. Most recently Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe died during a Confederation Cup match with Colombia on June 26, 2003.

In January 2004 Benfica’s 21-year-old striker Miklos Feher collapsed from a heart attack against Vitoria Guimaraes.

In October that same year Sao Caetano defender Serginho died at the Morumbi stadium in San Paolo.

There are precedents in Italy, although they go back some way. On October 30, 1997 the 24-year-old Perugia player Renato Curi suffered a heart attack during a game against Juventus. It emerged a cardiac problem had been diagnosed, but he was still cleared to play, prompting a clampdown on the rules.

More fortunate was Lionello Manfredonia, whose heart stopped during a match with Bologna on December 30, 1989. The Roma midfielder survived, but his career was over.

Sevilla will want to win this match for Puerta. I'm not sure if they manage to do so though, because they're in a really disconsolate situation, they'll probably lose Alves to Real one of these days, and on the other hand, we want the Supercup more than anything right now!

Rest in peace, Puerta.

Chelsea closed that door when they signed Beletti. They have 3 RB now. Jose said that they won't buy anyone else but might release one player.

Ronaldo in shape for Supercup

The wait is nearly over for Milan fans. On Friday evening the Rossoneri go up against Spanish side Seville for the European Supercup.

There is good news from the club will more than likely go to Montecarlo with the rest of the squad. The Brazilian has been working hard all summer to get in shape but a niggling injury in July set him back almost a month and Milan want to avoid a repeat of the situation.

A place on the bench seems the most likely destination for Ronaldo with Pippo Inzaghi already confirmed in the starting 11.

Reassuring news also from Massimo Ambrosini who picked up a knock in the game against Genoa but will be available for the game of Friday and should once again be wearing the captain's armband.

Ambrosini expects moving experience

Massimo Ambrosini will lead out AC Milan for the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla FC "with a heavy heart" following the death of the Spanish club's midfielder Antonio Puerta. "It's a strange feeling for me," said the Italian international. "I should be experiencing something wonderful and special personally but I cannot forget what has happened and it will be a moving experience playing tomorrow."

Opening goal
With a knee injury ruling regular captain Paolo Maldini out of the opening exchanges of the season, Rossoneri coach Carlo Ancelotti had little hesitation in handing the armband to the reliable midfielder. Ambrosini wasted little time in repaying that faith as Serie A kicked off at the weekend, scoring a 21st-minute opener at Genoa CFC before Kaká's two first-half goals completed a 3-0 victory. By that time, though, Puerta was in a critical condition in hospital having suffered a heart attack during Sevilla's Primera División defeat of Getafe CF. He never recovered and passed away on Tuesday.

Paying tribute
"We all feel grief and surprise at what was happened," said Ambrosini, an unsung hero of Milan's UEFA Champions League success last term. "It was up to Sevilla to make the decision to play the Super Cup and they decided to go ahead with it - perhaps this is the best way to pay tribute to Puerta. We must play in a committed way even if the match has lost some of its attraction, but we don't know what our mindset will be. It will be a very new experience for all of us - a victory or defeat will not have the same meaning as under normal circumstances."

Dida Doubt For Ancelotti Ahead Of Super Cup Clash

The Milan goalkeeper has a problem with his right shoulder and his presence for tonight's match against Sevilla is highly in doubt.

The Rossoneri are facing the possibility of playing without their number one goalkeeper Dida in tonight's all-important European Super Cup game against Sevilla at the Louis II Stade of Monaco.

The Brazilian shot stopper suffered a problem to his right shoulder on Thursday evening and it is yet unclear whether he will manage to recover in time for the big game.

If Dida will fail in the last tests before the kick-off time, veteran Australian goalkeeper Kalac will take over the responsibility of guarding the Milan goalpost and try to shut down the Sevilla attacks in what promises to be an exciting final.

Dida's injury occurred towards the end of the last training session and this could be an important loss for the Rossoneri , with the Brazilian playing well during the pre-season and in the first league game against Genoa last weekend.

I dunno. I don't think they were that bad. And both of Sevilla's goals were fantastic, if Casillas couldn't stop them, Dida/Kalac won't. wink.gif

But If both teams play to the best of their ability Milan shouldn't have too much trouble in winning the game, they have too many leaders and real top class individuals on the field, wheras Sevilla are 'just a team' with the exception of Alves and Kanoute.

Trivia factoid for those who are interested in such things:

Sevilla's midfielder Enzo Maresca (who is a usual starter for them) is a former Milan Primavera player.

Yup and that's because of Milan... this is not our usual play, whatever that means...

Sevilla is so complete it's scary. Best counter-attacking team in the world by miles! When in attack, they open up like a fan!

I hate to say it but Poulsen is the best player on that field tonight! Pirlo is also amazing, his through ball to Ambro in the last minutes was simply jaw-dropping!!!! ohmy.gif

And Nesta's save on Renato's shot... what to say, NOT EVEN IN HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!

Edit: Goal was (partly) Dida's fault! And he also made a bad exit in another set-piece. His uniform is really cool!! cool.gif

bad bad half for dida, he's runing in the box, like he's trying to replace oddo tongue.gif them together make perfect defending couple ^o) while pirlo was just being pirlo in the last 15min of the 1st half biggrin.gif awesome to watch

Posted by: fresh_prince7 Aug 31 2007, 08:45 PM

It is a good game, both teams definitely playing to win.

Dida absolutely woeful, why didn't kalac play.

There doing a wonderful job tagging kaka' out of the game.

So no ronaldo, that hurts, leaves it down to gila. rolleyes.gif

I like the way sevilla play, thought we'd close them down better in the compact formation we play, and hurt them on the counter with kaka' and seedorf wide. Seedorf is going to definitely have to come into the game, cause kaka' is getting no space.

We played some good football though, deserved to be on level terms. Can so see us losing this game though.

Posted by: bigmacmtl Aug 31 2007, 08:45 PM

-sevilla keep counter-attacking and gattuso isnt doing anything so i would bring on emerson cuz we need another holding mid.
-kaka is being tightly marked so this should but opening up more other players (oh and i thought kaka was supposed to dance around ales with ease? i havent see that rolleyes.gif)
- i like what i've seen from ambro
-seedorf has created alot but wasted a sitter
-pirlo wasnt in the game until the last 10 minutes of the half
-our fullbacks are so bad at crossing, all our crosses are either low or mid height, while sevilla are getting all their crosses in the 6 yard box
-nesta has been majestic and saved a goal
-kaladze dint look good on several plays
-dida doesnt was just plain useless.
-pirlo wanst in the game until the last 10 minutes of the half

Posted by: Tennie Aug 31 2007, 08:47 PM

I've been rather impressed with Pirlo's performance in the second part of the half. He's been...Pirlo, in a way he wasn't for large parts of last year.

Nesta is a god in defense. smile.gif

And Oddo is being allowed a lot of space on the right, they should (as Kurt said - I'm scared, I'm agreeing with Kurt again) use him more.
