Let's climb the table

I would give R9 a rest and go with Gila-Pato upfront, I'm really interested in seeing what they can do.
Posted by: arivanjj Jan 21 2008, 12:32 AM
i don't care who starts... as long as Roni gets his share and i see a good match!
Posted by: rhy_A4 Jan 21 2008, 11:58 AM
lol if only we played 3 - 4 - 3
Pato , Ronaldo and Gilardino up front
Posted by: arivanjj Jan 21 2008, 12:36 PM
ok if Carlo is going to go with 2 forwards then that would mean Ambro will be benched ?
Posted by: nuh Jan 21 2008, 12:37 PM
aaah i feel soo safe now i dont care who starts up front caz who ever it is i think they could score ronaldo-gila good pato-gila i think it would work out pato-ronaldo the best i feel safe
Posted by: KillerMax Jan 21 2008, 12:54 PM
Ancelotti loves Ambrosini too much to bench him. He thinks he was one of the key factors in winning the CL last year.

you're not suggesting he will bench Pirlo, Gattuso or Seedorf... i think he will be benched just like last year when Roni was fit
Posted by: redbabies Jan 21 2008, 03:27 PM
Dont be suprised if Carlo fields only Gila upfront.
R99 needs rest and will probably be benched, while also Pato needs rest since he's too young to play every 3 days.
Even though I still believe that Gila-Pato will start.

Ambro is one of the 7 players that have played the most this season
(acmilan.com - Minute by minue statistics)And, wouldn't be a tragedy if he is benched (even for a longer period
)

Hopefully he won't go back to the xams tree with Gila alone upfront. I'm sure Carlo has seen the error of his ways, since evey game we've started with 2 strikers we've won this season. And when we play with 2 strikers and 2 defensive mids we still struggle to score. I think thats indicator enough of which way Carlo should go with his formation
Oddo--Nesta--Kala--Favalli

I, too, would like to see Pato-Gila upfront for this one. Ronaldo MUST be rested...
Posted by: gal_kenny Jan 21 2008, 04:56 PM
why is everyone saying Ronaldo needs a rest?
He's been the most dangerous striker for us the past two games..so why would we wanna bench him?

Because Ronaldo can't handle 3 games in the span of 8 days. If we try to play him that much chances are he won't last a month without getting a serious injury.
Posted by: gal_kenny Jan 21 2008, 05:06 PM
Be he gatto keep playing if he's supposed to get in shape and be fit..And we both know when he's fit he's the most dangerously striker in the world..

He has only had 10 days of normal training before starting to play... he needs a rest cause his fitness levels are still low.

When does janku get back?
Posted by: kurtsimonw Jan 21 2008, 07:47 PM
0-3. Gila, Kaka' & Seedorf.
The 3 points are all that really matters, but I'd like a good performance to go with it this time.

Well neither Janku or Sergio are fit and I don't think Paolo will play in this one.
So it's either Bonera (who would be put in an even bigger disadvantage if played there) or Favalli
Any news on Janku btw?

Janku, Maldini, and Pippo all practiced in the gym today. And I think that Carletto said something post-Udinese about Janku perhaps being back for the Sunday game, not for the mid-week game.

Forget what Carlo says... before Napoli game he said Janku will be back for Udinese... and now he's not gonna even make Atalanta game. what's the point in not telling the truth... I've no idea!
We have problems in LB and we don't even consider an alternative... that's amazing how relaxed our management are

Carletto held his pregame press conference (see acmilan.com's italian page). He indicated the following were possibilities as to Milan's lineup:
* Kalac in goal (Dida possibly returning Sunday)
* A problem on the left side of defense with neither Janku nor Serginho available and Maldini not fully over the flu.
* Ronie may be rested
* Either Seedorf or Ambrosini will probably be rested
* The formation will be a 4-3-1-2 (specifically, he said he'd play with a trequartista and two strikers).

I really hope he takes this chance and scores. I have said that Gila plays well when he has a partner and always seems too score, this is the time too prove that.
Forza Milan & Gilardino

He has said we will play 4-3-3 (or 4-3-1-2) but that's Carlo... can't trust in what he says. I won't be surprised if he fielded Gila as a lone striker again.

Janku's condition is medical staff's business. you're right. but our playing system is decided by no one than Carlo himself
we have four strikers available for this trip. it's now up to Carlo in what formation we're gonna play, 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1...

What I'm saying is that Ancelotti never hides anything... Milan's weapon is not unpredictability anyway... if he said he'll play with a trequartista and two forwards then that's what he's going to do
unless any problem occurs with one of those players.

"Tomorrow? We will play with three strikes, or two strikers and a playmaker."
"Pato? I'm not sure if he will play"
"Ronaldo and Pato are not in top shape, it's more probable that Ronaldo will rest, who is 31 years old and is coming off six months of inactivity, compared to Pato."
What will it be then, Carlo?...
Even though you understand it will probably be Pato-Gila, but still there's a certain amount of equivocation in his words! our management's press conferences are more or less always like that, especially Galliani's!

Serie A Preview: Atalanta - Milan
What: Italian Serie A
Who: Atalanta (22 pts. 11th) vs. AC Milan (24 pts., 9th)
When: Wednesday January 23, 20:30 (CET)
Where: Stadio Azzurri D’Italia, Bergamo
This rescheduled fixture gives both of these clubs a chance to make up points on their rivals in the standings.
Bad Memories
This match is the reschedule of a postponed fixture from the day on which a Lazio supporter tragically perished back in early November. Although the players had already taken the field and the match having started, it was stopped by the referee due to the protesting of the crowd.
Fans across Italy were extremely upset after hearing of the accidental shooting of Lazio supporter Gabriele Sandri, and the supporters in Bergamo forced the stoppage of play in this fixture after less than ten minutes.
The serious nature of the supporters’ intentions, if play were to continue, was clearly evidenced by the considerable damage to the barriers that separated the stands from the pitch. After Atalanta striker Cristiano Doni’s attempt to calm down the crowd was unsuccessful, the referee had no choice but to stop the match.
Moving on to the playing aspect of this fixture, Atalanta are a different side, at least according to the Serie A table, than they were when the original fixture took place. Back on November 11, the Oribici were in sixth place, on the back of a five-match unbeaten streak.
Currently, however, they have not won since December 2, having lost four of the five matches they have played since their 5-1 home victory against Napoli. This streak of poor results was blighted even further by their loss at the weekend, 2-1 away to Genoa. Following a goal from the penalty spot by Cristiano Doni with less than a half hour remaining, Genoa stormed back to win the match through Marco Borriello and then Luciano Figueroa. Atalanta were a bit unluckly, though, as they hit the goal frame on no less than three occasions.
Atalanta are also playing with heavy hearts, as club president Ivan Ruggeri is currently in hospital with a brain aneurism.
With the crowded schedule Milan now face in the coming weeks due to their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup, they will need to draw on every member of their squad in order to get the full allotment of points on offer, which is almost necessary at this point to get up to fourth position in the standings by the end of the season.
Sitting ten points adrift of fourth-place Fiorentina, Milan have a lot of work to do. However, they have shown real improvement in the last two matches, largely to do with the addition of young Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato and the return to fitness of Ronaldo. These two strikers, combined with the world’s best player, Kakà , have formed one of the most fearsome trios in all of Europe, despite having only played together on two occasions.
Their first match, a 5-2 victory over Napoli, was one of the most entertaining games of the season. Pato was making his debut, and Ronaldo was just returning from his umpteenth injury spell. The first half of the match was pretty even, with Napoli twice pulling back a goal after Milan had taken the lead.
But the second half was all Milan’s. When Ronaldo scored his second goal of the match inside the first minute following the restart, it appeared as though the back and forth fireworks of the first stanza would be replicated. This was not to be, however. A brilliant strike from the top of the box by Kakà ten minutes onward secured the win for Milan, and young Pato got the debut goal he had predicted a handful of minutes later.
Milan’s next match, which took place this past Sunday, was a difficult away fixture to Udinese, who were in fourth place in the Serie A table at the time. Both sides had numerous opportunities to take the lead, with each goalkeeper (Zeljko Kalac of Milan and Samir Handanovic of Udinese, respectively) keeping his side in the match with acrobatic saves.
The only goal of the game came in second half stoppage time, through the much-criticized Alberto Gilardino, after he made a substitute appearance for Ronaldo in the 83rd minute. Pato possessed the ball, and then passed to Kakà , who set up Gilardino for the finish with a cheeky backheel.
With the matches now coming fast and furious, Milan must take advantage of their bench, and despite Gilardino constantly being linked with a move away to another club, he will be needed in the push for a top-four finish.
FORM GUIDE (last five fixtures)
Atalanta
12/9 Juventus 1-0 Atalanta Serie A
12/16 Atalanta 1-3 Palermo Serie A
12/23 Livorno 1-1 Atalanta Serie A
1/13 Atalanta 1-2 Roma Serie A
1/19 Genoa 2-1 Atalanta Serie A
Milan
12/20 Milan 1-2 Catania Coppa Italia
12/23 Inter 2-1 Milan Serie A
1/13 Milan 5-2 Napoli Serie A
1/16 Catania 1-1 Milan Coppa Italia
1/20 Udinese 0-1 Milan Serie A
TEAM NEWS
Atalanta will be up against it in this match, due to their numerous absences through injury. The injury list includes Costinha, Leonardo Talamonti, George Forsyth and Marino Defendi, while Antonio Langella and Claudio Rivalta are doubtful.
Milan will again put Zeljko Kalac between the sticks, with Nelson Dida still suffering from a knee injury. Other names missing from the list of called-up are Filippo Inzaghi, Massimo Ambrosini and Marcos Cafu. Paolo Maldini is out with the flu. Fortunately, Andrea Pirlo returns from a one-match suspension.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Cristiano Doni (Atalanta) – He is undoubtedly Atalanta’s best player. Once rumored years ago to have almost joined Milan, he can show the Rossoneri why passing on him was a mistake.
Alberto Gilardino (Milan) – Ronaldo will most likely start on the bench, and ‘Gila’ could get the start alongside Pato. The pressure continues to mount on Gilardino to score consistently, and finally having a complimentary forward next to him in attack could do a lot for his game.
POSSIBLE STARTING XI’s
Atalanta (4-5-1): Coppola; Belleri, Bellini, Capelli, Carrozzieri; De Ascentis, Pinto, Guarente, Doni, Tissone; Floccari
Milan (4-3-1-2): Kalac; Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Favalli; Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf; Kakà ; Pato, Gilardino
PREDICTION
With Kakà fielded behind a more traditional forward pairing of Pato and Gilardino, he could well play even better than he has recently. Atalanta will not have the defensive solidity necessary to keep out the Milan attack, especially with Andrea Pirlo returning to the squad.
Atalanta 0-2 Milan

Seedorf (i think) took a corner, it got knocked down to Gattuso, who was outside the box, he played a general ball into the area which took a hit on Doni's head and left the keeper stranded

Wow Pato, did good to make the chance for himself, just a bit off with the shot.
We need that bit more in the final third, Getting in good positions and not making a good final pass or missing the target, we could have ended it in this half

Pato needs to settle into the team .. He is doing well, in fact very well .. Still, he needs time a couple more games. that said, he should have scored a brace. Who knows he might end it witha hattrick tonight (@Ari, this morning

LoL i think we've seen the best to the worst of Milan all in one game, that's pretty incredible, 1st half we wer in cruise control one touch passing,2nd half we made no tackles and cldn't keep the ball for more than a few touches.
We played right into their strategy....again
need to change tactics but we really don't have the players for that.

The first half was just great....it tells me that this team can still play football. But it's obvious that this squad lost it's famous self-confidence. 2 years ago this unlucky equalizer just have been that...unlucky. We would have just played on like before an we would have gotten the win in the end.

As much as it pains me to say it, perhaps we'd be better in the UEFA cup next season if it means we can finally invest in the team. The sad fact is that had we have spent when the majority of fans wanted us to we wouldn't be in this mess.

IMO we have the players but they are not being picked.
we have a few of them, nesta, kaka, pirlo, pato in the future, gila maybe then theres 2-3 players that shouldnt be automatic starters, then theres the old washed out players that we like to hold on to so we can show everyone our great class while everyone laughs at us, and the rest are good enough for maybe atalanta?

Ancelotti rues errors
Carlo Ancelotti admits Milan’s mistakes cost them dearly, while Atalanta dedicate their victory to President Ivan Ruggeri.
The Rossoneri were expected to conquer the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in this Week 12 tie postponed from November 11 due to rioting and therefore played behind closed doors.
However, Alexandre Pato wasted several great chances and errors in defence also proved decisive as Atalanta fought back to win 2-1.
“We played very well in the first half, opened the scoring and had the chances to extend our advantage. It was very negative to go into the break with a 1-1 scoreline, we deserved more,†commented Ancelotti.
“In the second half we tried to get back in front, but a defensive error allowed Atalanta to score their second goal and then close up all the spaces, so it became far more difficult.
“The second half was a step backwards, but I must say this team has not played a better first half this season in Serie A.â€
Kakha Kaladze was caught out for the Atalanta winner scored by Nando Tissone.
“It was a mistake, the pitch was slippery and this can happen. It was a mistake that cost us dearly, though.â€
Atalanta did not expect this victory and it was a special one for the team that hopes President Ruggeri will emerge from his coma following an aneurysm.
“This win was for the President,†said goalscorer Tissone. “He was our first thought. We did everything away to Genoa looking for victory and couldn’t do it, but now we have.â€
Coach Luigi Del Neri also dedicated the result to Ruggeri. “He is a man with the courage of his convictions and we all respect him. We will try to give him strength any way we can. I hope when he returns to us, someone will tell him what the team achieved and this can raise his spirits.
“As for the match, if you give Milan space, they will hurt you, so we faced them in the perfect way. We never gave the impression we were under pressure,†continued the boss.
“It is not easy to score two against Milan, especially if you go behind to an unlucky own goal, but if you play good football then the results come.â€

Well.
I'm glad I didn't see the game and don't know if I'll stay up late to watch the replay.
That said, it seems the prediction I made some months ago is sadly accurate: I predicted a bad season and it looks like we're having one.
Motivation is a big problem. So is the lack of depth. Both need to be fixed, but in honesty I don't know if they CAN be fixed in time to save Milan this year.

goal.com: AC Milan ratings
Kalac – 6: In truth Kalac did not have a worthwhile save to make all game. He was faultless on both of Atalanta’s goals.
Bonera – 5.5: Given a real run-around by Langella and made very little impact as an attacking force either.
Nesta – 5.5: Poor game from one of the world’s best defenders. Fell hook, line and sinker for Langella’s dummy on the equalising goal, and had a rocky night.
Kaladze – 5.5: Kaladze had been a rock for 60 minutes of the game until a quite horrendous error gifted Atalanta the winner. If it hadn’t been for this mistake Kaladze probably would have got a rating of 7/7.5. Unfortunately this is how it works. If you are an angel all your life and you commit murder, you still go to prison.
Favalli – 5: I was never a fan of Favalli when he was in his prime – even less so now he is in his mid-30s. At fault for the first goal.
Gattuso – 6.5: Much improved performance from Gattuso who at least showed signs of returning to form. He is still lacking the fire and energy that we have come to know from him though. Will this ever return?
Seedorf – 6: Flattered to deceive did Seedorf tonight. He always threatened to produce some brilliance but it never quite came off. Was unlucky not to earn an equaliser at the death as his piledriver was brilliantly saved by Coppola.
Pirlo – 8: Absolutely brilliant once again. Sprayed passes around the pitch all game and was the man behind all of Milan’s first half dominance. At one point I counted five 30-yard passes to a team-mate’s feet within the space of five minutes. Genius!
Kaka – 6.5: Electric in the first half, but went missing in the second, despite an excellent late turn and shot that forced a save out of Coppola.
Pato – 6: Disappointing game from the youngster. Showed some explosive bursts in the first half, but he missed a glorious one-on-one and barely had a kick after the break.
Gilardino – 5.5: What can you say about Gilardino? He just isn’t a Milan player - simple as that. His lack of technical quality just doesn’t suit the Rossoneri. He is not on the same wavelength as the likes of Kaka, Seedorf and Pirlo.
Substitutes: Ronaldo - 6, Oddo – 4.5, Gourcuff - NA

Very good question !!
It isn't a matter of either/or ... Sure there is a possibility of missing out on the final and 4th place; which would ultimately cause havoc amongst both the San Siro crowd and the Milan dressing room. Not only that, it might even lead to the end of this current cycle of Milan, whatever goes up must come down.
What Milan accomplished last season was something beyond normal. It was Milan against the world, and at times against it's own fans !
Can it happen again ? Sure it can, we'll see .. The odds are stacking up just like they did last season
p.s. But if this same performance continues, then 4th place is not possible. But the CL, I believe Milan can do it (it's for Paolo afterall) and no team holds Milan's current record in that tournament.

It's really a case of "what the **** was that?"!! Kaladze is not unskillful he's just unbearably stupid! He thinks that no matter the situation he can take the ball away. Sometimes you just have to do the simple things... all he had to do in this occasion was to smoothly stand beside his opponent. Especially since it was Simone Inzaghi; if he had not lost the ball, the ball would have lost him...
@Carletto: Pato cannot score 30 goals, it's just that you always gave Ale and Kakha different-color bibs...

We're just the same as Liverpool in my opinion. Crap tactics, can't beat small teams. Don't deserve to be in the CL next season. Simple as that.
We're over the half way point, the games are starting to run down now and we need to start being consistant, otherwise we have zero chance of finishing in the top 4. When was the last time we put a few wins together!?

Here are datasport's ratings. They're not at all kind to Milan. I can't remember the last time more than one player got a 4 from these guys.
Kalac 6.5 Buone parate, incolpevole sui gol. [Good game, goals not his fault.]
Bonera 6 Gioca un buon primo tempo, ma poi deve lasciare il campo al piu` offensivo Oddo. [Played a good first half, but then was subbed out for the more offensive-minded Oddo.]
Kaladze 5.5 Il modulo a due punte piu` Kaka` e Seedorf scopre la difesa. Lui e` bravo negli anticipi, ma va in difficolta` quando e` uno contro uno. [The 2 striker model puts pressure on the defense. He's good in anticipating, but has problems with one on ones.]
Favalli 5 Non ha piu` l`eta` per le sgroppate e infatti non gli vengono richieste visto che dovrebbe rimanere a presidiare la zona difensiva, Pero` con la velocita` di Ferreira Pinto soffre parecchio. [Not young enough. Suffered against the speed of Ferreira Pinto.]
Nesta 5.5 Cerca di mantenere la bussola, ma non puo` evitare di andare in difficolta` viste le mancate coperture dei centrocampisti. [Tries to maintain the line but can't avoid problems with the missing cover of the midfielders.]
Oddo 4 Poco piu` di 20 minuti sono bastati per far capire perche` Ancelotti gli preferisce Bonera. Entra per dare un po` di spinta e garantire qualche cross decente in mezzo, ma non fa nessuna delle due cose. Inguardabile. [20 minutes is enough to understand why Ancelotti prefers Bonera. Enters to provide some decent crosses, but doesn't do it.]
Kaka` 6.5 Il solito gran movimento alla ricerca dello schizzo vincente. Per poco, a cinque minuti dalla fine, non gli riesce. [Theusual great movement in search of a winning play. In short order, in five minuts from the end, it does not succeed.]t
Gourcuff s.v. Qualche scatto velleitario in una decina di minuti. [Some decent plays in ten minutes.]
Pirlo 7 Dirige il gioco con ritrovata maestria, sembra che solo dai suoi piedi possano partire azioni decisive. [Directs the game, seems to be the only one whose feet can direct decisive actions.]
Seedorf 6 Inizia alla grande con alcune giocate davvero spettacolari. Poi cala alla distanza costretto in un ruolo che ormai non sente piu` suo. [Started well with some spectacular plays. After fell into a role he doesn't feel.]
Gattuso 6.5 Un gol, anche se fortuito, e una partita giocata con la solita generosita` gli fanno meritare un ampia sufficienza. [One goal, even if lucky, and a game decently played.]
Ronaldo 5 Gioca una mezzoretta, ma a differenza di Udine non riesce a trovare nemmeno uno spunto. [Played 30 minutes but doesn't find any chances.]
Gilardino 4.5 Quando un attaccante non ha nemmeno un`occasione, la colpa e` anche sua che non se la cerca. [When a striker doesn't have even one chance, the fault is also his for not looking for them.]
Pato 4 Decisivo in negativo. Clamoroso e imperdonabile l`errore sullo 0-1 che avrebbe pootuto chiudere la partita. [Decisively negative. Impardonable error on the attempt that could've closed the game.]

We're just the same as Liverpool in my opinion. Crap tactics, can't beat small teams. Don't deserve to be in the CL next season. Simple as that.

Anyway... sack Ancelotti. I'm tired of that face in Milan bench.

Not really, this was our 17th game. But we do need consistency if we want to reach 4th place. It's still highly possibly but not if we keep playing like this.

I thought we'd played more than that! Obviously not. But the way we're playing, the only thing we're going to do is move down the table, not up it. Atalanta? Come on.

That's me!
This same team has won 2 CL's and and a Scudetto being runners up once and twice respectively. You can't say they are of the same quality as Liverpool, you just can't!
Most of them might be "done" but if we had a team as talented as Liverpool's we'd be fighting for relegation now!
edit: I meant: Most of them are "done". They cannot compete for a c'ship. But the gap in quality between Milan's and Liverpool's first XI (when they both play at 100%) is immense. And this Liverpool will never win the EPL. They need 10 new players to do it. Their bench is even worse than ours...

But instead of looking and comparing us to Liverpool we should do that with Inter. Improve ourselves and not playing for the same cup every year since Calciopoli.
We look like a pile of shite this season. That's the truth. And you can quote this shite whenever you want. I just don't care.

Yes, Inter are our opponents, I only talked about Liverpool in the EPL thread.
This season we are crap but it doesn't scare me so much. I still think we will reach 4th place. The thing is that our future looks black!! We need like 10 players in order to be able to compete for the c'ship next season and that means 14 players should come in considering that some will flop... It's just not possible. And that is sad cause in my view, it means that we won't be able to compete for the scudetto the next season for sure and maybe not even the one after that!

Not always. You've seen Milan's dark late 90's... I don't want to re-live such a period and it looks like we are going down the same road.
It is exactly the same: An old team that no one wanted to admit it was old because we loved it. Until it was inevitable...

If it happens it happens man , its not like any of us can stop it. Unless you you have a time machine and go back in time and shoot Morrati & prevent calciopoli from ever happening
But it wont happen , and if it does I'll buy you pizza when you're in Drama again.

I swear man just one more good transfer like pato and we'll be set. Someone for defence like a LB would be good to cover for janku when he is injured. Favalli is great and all but we need pace on the wings.

goal.com: AC Milan ratingsKalac – 6: In truth Kalac did not have a worthwhile save to make all game.
What they are saying about Gilardino here is what I have been saying since the first day he came. A 20 million euro loss. The guy doesn't fit the Milan mold. I don't care if he's on the team but he is not a first choice. just watching this guy game in and game out is the most boring display from a forward in any major team. He just stands there just trips over himself. Our squad tactically needs a top forward upfront. We said Torres but No we have Gilardino. What about Ibrahamovic? No we have Gilardino. What about Van Nistelroy? No we have Gilardino. What about Luca Toni? No we have Gilardino.
Pato is still young but he did have little flashes of quality out there today. I still think he works better with a Ronaldo than a player like Gilardino. Gilardino is standing there waiting to get the perfect pass. Pato and Ronaldo are finding creative ways to work together to break apart defenses.

Because nobody can judge how good a player will be in a new team. I presume we bought him as he was young, Italian and did very well at Parma.
We could have signed Torres and he failed miserabley, you just don't know these things. Look at Chelsea, they bought arguabley the best striker in Europe, and he's been a waste of time.

when he was at parma he looked as good as pippo in his prime but with much better technique. the guy was scoring over ahead kicks! i remeber watching this amazing game were he scored parmas 4 goals and they won 4-3.

Scheva was a greater risk than Gilardino IMO but he has come through for Chelsea in various competitions. He hasn't been the Milan player that was but to go from Italy to the Prem is a big leap tactically and the fact that you don't get the space that you would in Serie A he has struggled to perform. Plus he's 30+ and the prem is the fastest moving league out there its none stop up and down the pitch. This is what I saw when I was at Stamford Bridge watching him go forward.
The issue with Milan and Gilardino is not really taking the original risk which sure anyone might fail, but leaning of bending knee praying that Gilardino is magically going to come around and play like he did in Parma. Its the continued confidence that he is going to come around. Again as I said in the previous post its not that he should not be on the team but he should not be one of our main go to guys for goals unless he earns it. With most teams you perform = your a first choice to play. With Gilardino its we have faith that you will eventually perform = you play regardless if you don't perform because we have faith in you. And really in other words we don't want to look stupid that we invested 20 million euros in you and were wrong. ANy other club would have gotten rid of this guy a long time ago.

great post and couldn't agree more. but you have to know that it's this system of "faith in our players" that has played a big part in the Milan success in past 2 decades and of course every system had it's down turns and Gila has been a down turn. now the management are as usual gonna try to get the best of him... but like you said sooner or later the player has to realize that he can't perform in this team.
Posted by: aLbErTo Jan 24 2008, 07:10 AM

Very good question !!
It isn't a matter of either/or ... Sure there is a possibility of missing out on the final and 4th place; which would ultimately cause havoc amongst both the San Siro crowd and the Milan dressing room. Not only that, it might even lead to the end of this current cycle of Milan,
whatever goes up must come down.
The most important thing is to be able to play in the CL next season. I'm optimistic we can do it one way or another, or at least I'm trying to be optimistic.
I think this cycle will come to an end no matter what happens. of course it's more likely to happen if we don't win the CL and don't finish in top four!!

That's when you can bring a few new players each transfer window and you don't, because you think you are good as you are...! I don't think we need 10 new players though, imo five world-class players will do [CB, RB, LB, GK, FW], but of course the more the better...
It's time for us to break the bank after two/three dreadful transfer windows where we almost did nothing positive [aside from signing Pato].

The cycle ends, when Milan finishes in the UEFA spot and doesn't reach Moscow. Meaning Ancelotti is out the door, the team will break up, and who knows what the next coach will do ... i.e. Risky.
But in all honesty, Milan will reach Moscow as it will reach 4th place. It's a no brainier really.

To be honest, what worries me more than this defeat is the form of Pato.
He was amazing the in debut, but in the last 2 matches he never did a single good pass, drible, or any other move that is worth mentioning.
I dont wanna critisize him since he's so young and have more than a decade in front of him but he didn't show a single good thing in the last 2 matches. I'm more worried about his form reather than about that missed oppurtunity, which also happened exaclty to R99 in his debut or 2nd match for Milan last season - it can happen to anyone, not a big deal!!!
I just hope he becomes more of a S7, coz I fear the O7 a lot!

I gotta make a confession.
I prefer we play like this in the league but win the CL every season until we surpass Real's record
! then focus on the league. because no matter how crappy you are in the league, if you win the CL, you'll still be considered the best; because you have conquered the whole Europe, not just Italy, and that's why Inter suck! it's not possible to be a real contender in both at the same time. especially for Milan with lots of old players and a thin squad.

Well, I never really expected Milan to be consistent in the league. I knew from the start of the campaign that this is the road Milan will take, and that the team will focus on the CWC and the CL.
But the thing that irritates me is the way Milan played in the 2nd half. I have never seen Milan like this before (if it was a coppa match I'd understand) ... That 2nd half, I really have no words.
About ur confession ... The board want that too. Silvio Berlusconi wants this team to be recognized around the world and europe. Now that it is #1 in the world, the only way to keep that spot is to win in europe. Let's get the 8th, then we'll talk about Real

Oh it is possible. Of course not with one good XI and crappy substitutes... Milan never were going to win this current title race not because we did not want to but because we couldn't! The management did not want to spend money for whatever reason yet they know that this squad cannot win the scudetto. They were never going to exhaust the team in the title race... CL was all we could win this season and we knew this from day one. It's just sad that they let Milan become a one-competition team.
