Alrighty then, things return to normal as far as match threads are concerned. tongue.gif Stats, images, match details, the whole package, blah, blah. I promised Locke that I'll open the Chievo thread, and here it is ladies and gentlemen in all it's glory. We take on the Flying Donkeys (who are really flying high after a spirited 3-3 draw against Juventus in their last match) at their home battleground. On paper we should win, without much heartache seeing as our opponents are still in 16th place as of going to press, but I'd be very wary of those little spirited yellow-and-blue warriors if I were you. unsure.gif The man to look out for? Senior Sergio Pellissier with 9 goals and 1 assist in the league. Here's a view of the field of battle, who they share with their partners in crime, FC Hellas Verona:

Anyhoo, as usual, time for some stats between the two clubs, current rankings, head to head, top scorers, etc.

Date: Saturday, 11 April, 2009
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm GMT
Place: Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi (Verona)
Capacity: 39,211

Oh, and a quick note for our friendly-neighborhood Locke, who has a special place in his heart for Chievo: You can be assured of two pitchers of (virtual) beer if Milan wins. One if we draw. Ha!

Forza Milan! devil.gif As usual.

Posted by: Bluesummers Apr 6 2009, 06:43 PM

3-0 easy win. Chievo pose us no threat. Another week and a fitter Kaka plus players will be getting the desired chance to work this week to improve fitness.

Line up:

Dida-Zambro-Maldini-Senderos-Janku-Becks-Pirlo-Flamini-Kaka-Inzaghi-Pato

I think if carlo goes with this and Kaka gets back to his regular self, we'll destroy them. 3-0 milan.

Posted by: Tennie Apr 6 2009, 06:52 PM

I don't underestimate the Donkeys. They took it to the Gobbi at the Olimpico yesterday, getting a 3-3 draw. Won't be a cakewalk, and Pelissier is in very good form at the moment.

Posted by: MizNelson Apr 6 2009, 06:54 PM

I can't see a 3-0 romp, especially since Pellissier put three past Gigi yesterday.

Chievo are surprisingly fourth in the points standings for this second half of the season.

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Apr 6 2009, 06:58 PM

Chievo are hardcore, too hardcore for our defence and maybe too hardcore for the Milan. I wouldnt be very optimistic, unless Senderos pulls out some of that famous magic again

Posted by: il_diavolo_mtl Apr 6 2009, 07:18 PM

2-2 Draw Pellissier, Pato, Italiano (pen), Pato

Posted by: acid911 Apr 6 2009, 07:36 PM

Ah, so one beer it is then, huh, Locke, after all? biggrin.gif laugh.gif If it's a draw, I hope it's 0-0. A hard-fought one, while at it. Of course, a win would be preferable, but I want our defense to hold strong, once in a blue-moon.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Apr 6 2009, 07:59 PM

Easy win, easy win,...

Dinho and Sheva making another step forward...

Posted by: mishie Apr 6 2009, 08:53 PM

A tough game this one as mentioned above they will be bouyed by the draw with the Gobbi. I predict a narrow win by the odd goal 0-1

Forza Milan!

Posted by: Ry4n Apr 6 2009, 09:39 PM

Heya !

Tough game i see them scoring first for some reason but a fight back 1-2 Win Pato and Kaka' to score !!

Posted by: MizNelson Apr 6 2009, 10:47 PM

Yesterday marked our first consecutive clean sheets since way back in October (four). I wouldn't mind seeing that continued this Saturday.

Ah the flying donkeys... we've got a flying Dutchman. Only he's not flying anymore and he's not really Dutch. He sure is a donkey though.

His attitude sure is not great. It's true, I am being disrespectful towards him but no more than he is to the team and the fans. No not me, **** me I'm just a guy watching the games from his house but there are people who go the stadium and pay to see their team put an effort and that he certainly does not do.

I do respect what he's done for us but he's not in that exclusive league of players who I would never criticize. Not even close to joining it. Am I acting like a *****? Yeah. Am I unfair? I don't think so.

Standard training (warmups, exercises, practice game) today. Pippo, Il Capitano, and Seedorf trained separately. Arrigo Sacchi was present during training today.

Juventus' defence was absolute sh!te. As long as players like mellberg and Grygera are playing what do you expect? I mean I doubt even Casillas or Cesar would have been able to keep a clean sheet.

If our defence dont blunder, than chievo are as dangerous as lecce.

----

In all honesty I hope chievo come attacking us because with a (hopefully) fit kaka and pato, they will pay dearly when we go on the counter.

Mid should be becks, pirlo, flamini and we should use kaka and pato as AM, with pippo pushing the defence further up. That will enable us to hit them on the counter with blistering pace.

Why does he no longer coach? I mean if Rijkaard is a candidate, shouldn't he be a choice as well?

Posted by: Tennie Apr 8 2009, 03:09 AM

Chievo are probably the most in-form team in the league. I don't underestimate them; it won't be an easy game. The Gobbi game at the weekend wasn't a one-off.

Arrigo Sacchi is no longer coaching because he has a heart condition.

Great attitude? You mean the same Seedorf who plays most of the time like he's sitting in a chaise lounge sipping a lemonade, and then pouts like a little kid when he's substituted prematurely? Please don't talk about respect when guys like Dida have more work ethic in their pinky finger than Seedorf has in his whole body, and yet are constantly razzed for whatever reason.

It has to be either Becks or Seedorf, atm I think Beckham would be the better choice. And personally I would like to see Dinho starting, but in who's place I'm not sure

Posted by: kizo Apr 9 2009, 03:46 PM

What if we tried something like this

---------------Pirlo--------Flamini------------

-------------Kaka-----------------R10--------

---------------Pato----------Pippo------------

I think Carlo will start 4-3-1-2

but i think he should consider this formation if first half ends with draw

Posted by: Bluesummers Apr 10 2009, 02:08 AM

Hmm flamini benched? Quite possible. But if we are to have any chance to win, seedorf must not play.

with his goal for ukraine, the assist to inzaghi, and the sign from the curva stating "Ancelotti, respect Shevchenko", could we maybe see Shev work his way back into good graces? i'm for it.

i want to see clarence start on the bench, with dinho starting. if dinho plays great, reward him. If not, bring clarence on and see what kind of stuff he's made of, and if he is actually going to step up and play well. Also, if pippo is impotent up front, bring on shev. i've just had this feeling all season long that if he was actually given a 3 game grace period he would have been back and scoring. but sadly he's played about as much as cardaccio this year.

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Apr 11 2009, 03:04 AM

Its interesting that we only have four fit midfielders, yet Carlo didnt call up any Primavera players to fill the holes like in GK and DF

Posted by: Tennie Apr 11 2009, 04:16 AM

Well, the call up list also counts Seedorf, Ronaldinho and Kaka as 'strikers'.

Rumor has it that Seedorf may not play.

Pirlo the only highlight of our play.

Everyone else is sluggish and lazy, especially Seedorf

Anyway, I'll be glad to see Tassotti in charge next match.

0-0 HT. Poor play by Milan. It's understandable that we suffer on counter-attacks with this formation but we cannot attack ourselves either... it just shows that the problem is not the formation.

I think Ronaldinho should replace Seedorf and Pato should play closer to the area not on the wing. He just keeps getting fouled there and he has no space. Unless the plan is to get their right side red carded he should play as what he is, a forward...

I don't think it was too harsh but it was not unjustifiable either... somewhere in the middle.

Ancelotti was not actually shown a red card (...!?) so I don't know what will happen next week.

I think Ronaldinho should replace Seedorf and Pato should play closer to the area not on the wing. He just keeps getting fouled there and he has no space. Unless the plan is to get their right side red carded he should play as what he is, a forward...

I think on the counter attacks it's a good place to attack from but yeah he needs to get past a LOT of players before he hits the area lol...not good.

Great awerness by Pippo to lay that off for Seedorf.

Pasqual just scored for Fiorentina over Cagliari. (1-0)
Lazio 2-1 Roma (Zarate & Pandev for Lazio, Mexes for Roma) Er. Make that 3-1. Lichtsteiner just scored for Lazio.
Palermo 2-0 Cugini (Balotelli and Ibrahimovic)
Siena 2 - 1 Bologna
Samp 2 - 0 Lecce (Pazzini and a Cassano penalty)

I'm at least seeing the goals realtime.

we pretty much scored from our only real opportunity.

Our attack hasn't been good since Siena, that was quite a few games ago and they seriously need to get their sht together coz we have some pretty big games coming up soon.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Apr 11 2009, 04:02 PM

Good match, 2 important points won from a in-form opponent.

My ratings;

Dida - MOM; did everything he could to keep his clean sheet and should be praised. (8)

Senderos - good for headers, some nice tackles as well, but bad positioning. (6)
Favalli - decent game as well, but also slight positioning errors and corner cross covering failed. (6,5)
Zamborotta - very good, solid in defense, especially good in offense in first half. (7)
Jankulovski - made some really unneccessary mistakes, left unpinished. (6)

Pirlo - good passing, usually good match. (6,5)
Seedorf - he's lost pace and strenght, but he made the decisive goal. (6,5)
Kaka - bad match; only flashes of his speed and dribble. (6)
Ambrosini - beside Zambro, best field player. Very good match. (7)
Pato - too often selfish and and indolent. One of his worst matches this season. (5,5)

Inzaghi - provided the great assist for Seedorf in a very Pippo un-like fashion. (6)

subs:

Flamini - also, a very unconfident match by Flamini, did many passes and moves wrong. (5,5)
Ronaldinho (-)
Shevchenko (-)

Ancelotti/Tassotti - not the most inspired game they made, but, still a nice win (5,5)

So, my thread opening record improves by one after our win now (albeit on a team that I rather like, Chievo). I knew we could always win, but seeing as this is a comparatively smaller team, I'd be lying if I said I didn't think we'd end up with a draw. happy.gif Man of the moment: Dida. Some very crucial saves by him in both halves.

Goal.com's players rating

QUOTE
Sorrentino -6.0: Aside from pick the ball out of the net, did not have too many difficult saves to make. Was alert to a number of Pirlo free kicks.

Sardo -6.0: A battling display from the right back, who kicked anything that moved. Pato will be counting his bruises and blood scratches tonight.

Morero -7.0: Impressive performance at the heart of the Chievo defence. Matched the likes of Kaka and Pato for pace, which takes some doing.

Yepes -6.5: May have given away a penalty against Kaka but, aside from this, he did well alongside Morero.

Mantovani -6.5: Did well down the left hand side. Rarely troubled defensively, he provided the cross when Pellissier headed against the bar. Hit the bar himself in what could have been a freak own goal.

Luciano -6.5: Was bright down the right in the first half, and had a penalty appeal turned away. Something of a surprise that he was substituted on 49 minutes.

Rigoni -6.5: Helped Chievo take charge of the midfield for long spells of the game.

Marcolini -6.5: Lively in midfield, and unleashed a number of efforts at goal.

Pinzi -6.0: Fantastic pass for Pellissier's early chance. Not so involved thereafter.

Pellissier -6.5: Again a real handful, only this week he did not take his chances, squandering two fine openings.

Bogdani -6.0: Held the ball up well, and linked up with Pellissier. Did not threaten too much himself though.

Subs

Colucci 4.5: Missed two glorious chances to earn Chievo a point. The second he should have buried.

Langella -6.0: Added pace to the Chievo attack.

Esposito -N/V: No time to shine.

MILAN

Dida -9.0: Was this Dida in goal? A string of crucial stops, including an absolute wonder-save from Colucci. Hail Nelson!

Zambrotta -6.0: A little shaky defensively, and was skinned by Pellissier for one of the striker's chances.

Senderos -6.5: Did surprisingly okay, despite looking awkward. A couple of key interventions.

Favalli -6.5: Senderos and Favalli at centre back hardly inspired confidence, but they somehow kept a clean sheet.

Jankulovski -6.0: Did well in the first half, and also provided the cross for the goal, but he was lucky to get away with a terrible mistake on 61 minutes.

Ambrosini -8.0: Milan's best outfield player today. Was a real leader in the middle-of-the-park, and he fought for every ball from the first minute until the last.

Pirlo -6.0: Just when you think he is finding his form again, he puts in a performance like this. Aside from a number of free kicks, Pirlo did nothing.

Seedorf -7.0: Seedorf was having a shocker of a game, until he popped up to score the winner. This alone wins him this rating.

Kaka -5.5: Looks a shadow of the player who ruled the world in 2007. Could have won a penalty on 40 minutes but, in truth, he barely had a kick this afternoon.

Pato -7.0: Dangerous every time he received the ball, taking on opponents. Occasionally too greedy though, and the end product was missing.

Inzaghi -6.5: Made numerous runs up-front, heading wide from a corner, but the service to him wasn't the best. Nevertheless, he provided the assist for Seedorf's goal.

Flamini 6.5: Ran and ran and ran, but not too much quality.

Ronaldinho -6.0: A cameo performance from the Samba boy.

Shevchenko -N/V: Entered the fray with just minutes remaining.

Flamini decent? Made 2 or 3 totally wrong passes, no blocking, no cutting off, not good positioning? You really think he's done good? And you don't mention Zambrotta and Ambrosini? Hmhm,.. unsure.gif

Thought Zambro was one of our better players, Ambro... Not so much

Here are datasport's player ratings.

MILAN

I perosnally can't understand any of these ratings

Zambro 5.5, but Janku gets a 6. Zambrotta controlled his flank clearly better then Janku did, not to mention the mistakes Janku made that could have cost us.

Ambro gets a higher rating then Pirlo does? How can that even be possible?

And Seedorf gets a 6? He deserves the same rating as Kaka did since both were pretty much terrible. Seedorf couln't even make simple first touches to get the ball under control most of the time, that's how bad he was.

As for Pato, I don't think it was a bad game per se, He was played out of position on that left wing, he kept running into brick walls and anytime he got ast his man he was brutally chopped down by the next Chievo player. But there were times that he was selfish with the ball, I think I counted 4 times where Kaka was free and could be released but Pato decided to cut through the middle instead of making the pass

It's an odd game to rate with numbers, each player had their own 15 - 20mins of good football, but also made a heap of blunders.

e.g. Ambro who did nothing for the first half but positioned himself in key areas in the second half so they couldn't counter attack as swiftly as they did in the 1st half.
Could say the same for the rest of the team except for Favster! who was fairly consistent

Goal apart, did Seedorf actually do anything? Any other manager would have had him off at half time or earlier. He really is becoming a liability to our play and needs to go, seeing as he's carlo's b1tch he will carry on playing rolleyes.gif

As for Ambro, I can see why he got such high ratings as he was by far our best player today, he made plenty of tackles and started many counter attacks. I actually think the datasport ratings are spot on regarding the rest as well.

Genoa played well and totally deserved their win.

Anyway, with Juve drawing it means we are now only 2 points behind them, and we have to play them as well. Second place is now within our grasp and we must make sure we secure it.

FORZA MILAN !!!! devilsmiley.gif

Very lucky win today, we got owned. Chievo should have had 2-3 goals.

Dida 8- Surprising game by him considering his usual';tested on several occasions and made the saves. I hope it continues.

Zambrotta 7- Looked 21 today, very good game by him.

Favalli 7- Good game

Senderos 6.5 good game.

Janku 5- Can't defend, and we all know this to be true.

Pirlo 6.5- Average game by pirlo. Passing was great.

Ambro- 5 Not a good game him by his standards. Probably still getting fit.

Seedorf- 5.5 Wow, he should not have even played. Good finish on the goal.

Kaka- 3- Clearly should have been subbed at half, he needs more time to get fit.

Pato 6- Selfish at times but he did very good earning free kicks.

Inzaghi 5- Quiet night for him other than the assist.

Flamini 6- good passing and kept things in order.

Sheva/dinho- n/a.

Carlo -4- Almost cost us the game and was stupidly sent off. Should have subbed seedorf as everyone on the pitch could tell he was done at 75th.

Posted by: gal_kenny Apr 12 2009, 01:30 AM

Why does he keep playing seedorf when he keeps playing bad..If that was Gourcuff, he won't have played at all after 1-2 bad performances..very bad..i hate Carlo...

Hi, hi, hi. biggrin.gif

I missed the game after volunteering yesterday to work a Saturday shift (and had to fight to avoid being sent home because it was so slow). I made the most of it, though, by strategically placing some self-promotional homemade stickers right near the register. Five of eight were taken. smile.gif

Why was Dida awesome today? He ditched the silly banana strip and went gray. Three straight games, zero goals. biggrin.gif Before the Napoli match, he ditched the Chia Pet look and got a haircut for his return to Serie A. It's the little things like that that make me love him.

Posted by: Tennie Apr 12 2009, 03:23 AM

Haha. Chia Pet look. Love it. smile.gif +1 cookie!

FYI for those in the US -- Fox Soccer Channel will be broadcasting the game Sunday at 4:30 eastern if you missed it or want to see it again.

does anyone remember how far inter was ahead of roma last year before roman started coming back on them in the table?

The championship was assigned in the final week, as Inter, who managed to secure even a 10-point advantage to rivals Roma in mid-season, lost almost all of it in the final weeks, maintaining only a one-point advantage with only one match to play.

So it was ~10 points...

It's ironic about yesterday's game that the team's most hated players were the ones who saved our cans, while the fans' darlings were nowhere to be found.

Yeah i mean its bound to happen. At least one game a season should be saved for our less adored players to get some love.

that's what i thought

with the exception of last year, milan usually finishes seasons pretty strong...where inter are usually limping into the final week.

hopefully we can continue finishing this season strong.

I have hope in that Milan will finish strong .. But I have little hope in closing that 10 points gap.

Barring a Mancini style of collapse, we cannot hope to overhaul Inter. Our priority now should be overtaking Juve and getting some dignity back

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Apr 14 2009, 06:16 AM

Lousy ratings from goal. Mine...

Dida: 7.5
Zambrotta: 6.5
Favalli: 6.5
Senderos: 6.5
Janku: 5.5
Ambro: 6.5 (Coz of a bad first half)
Zee: 6 (Only coz of the goal)
Kaka: 5
Pirlo: 6 (He was the most creative in our entire midfield)
Pippo: 5.5 (Assist aside, not his day)
Pato: 6 (Ineffective, but they were out to kick the cr@p out of him!)

Subs:
Flamini: 5.5 (Added fresh legs, but little else)
Ronaldinho: 6 (Should have started instead of Zee/Kaka)
Sheva: 5.5 (Made movements, got into good positions, but still looked out of sync with the team)

"Dida: si ripresenta nelle sue migliori condizioni al momento più opportuno, con Abbiati ricoverato nel reparto lungodegenti. A lui va il merito di non aver fatto capricci né strepitato al momento della sostituzione continuando a fare il suo lavoro coscienziosamente e in silenzio."

Oh, if only Clarence would take a page out of his book. king.gif Hopefully he can keep his mojo going against Torino this Sunday.

Not just Clarence; a lot of people could benefit from that behavior.

(Fishdoll note: we may see how the gobbi deal with the situation as rumor has it that Del Piero is being benched for the weekend's game against the cugini).
