QUOTE (dst @ Jun 24 2014, 08:17 PM) I said I think the reason why it's not a red card is because it's not a forceful challenge. He stops and turns and it's not that hard to warrant a red card. On the contrary, Pepe goes full speed on that challenge so I don't see how these two incidents relate at the slightest. If anything you're more in control when you're walking and not at full speed, the ball was on the floor not bouncing or anything and his studs end up on the guys knee (way over the ball). For the past 15 years it's a red-card all day, everyday.

Red for Chiellini Danny? He didn't touch Suarez, Suarez just went in on him like a hungry chia pet!!!
And no way was that a red for Marchisio!!! Yes he raised his studs but there was no intent and it wasn't violent, he was looking at the ball throughout the entire action.
I'm not saying Italy did enough. Going out serves them right for the ridiculous showing aginst Costa Rica and then wasting away 80 minutea literelly playing just to waste time and get the draw. There's no excusing that and Prandelli has a lot to answer for
Having said that, there is no way that the refereeing today was correct and fair Suarez better get banned for the rest of the tournament for what he did today, what an utter disgrace of a player
And I still stand by what I said, Italy had the best and most dynamic midfield in this competition, too bad they were never used to their full potential by Prandelli

For the past 15 years it's a red-card all day, everyday. It's a reckless challenge and I would agree with you if it was a forceful tackle but it wasn't in my view. I know the ball was on the ground but that does not automatically warrant a red card, in the same sense that, even though an elbow is not a footballing incident at all, not every elbow is a red, it always depends on how reckless and hard it is. The in control argument is my point, this wasn't as reckless as Pepe's challenge at all.

QUOTE (Ry4n @ Jun 24 2014, 07:37 PM) England and Italy out , Spain out Portugal on the verge You gotta love this wc and this is hilarious he could have seriously killed chiellini... (IMG: https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/t1.0-9/10152010_10152364095514003_8765204946756707227_n.jpg) Does Suarez have tiny needle like teeth? If he plays another game in this tournament Sepp Blatter and his mingons should go take a long ride on a bycicle without a seat

Well, all in all a messy match. I think Marchisio got, so to speak, a cumulative red. Not for his own doing, but for all of Italy's dirty fouls before - and Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini had many of those. Suarez acted like usual, he's a wild beast without any temper, but Chiellini did provoke him.
In the end, the ref made a mess but it could have ended up even worse.
Why Prandelli decided to take of Balo and give Parolo the nod is beyond me. Not that Balo was any good, but Parolo? That's the kind of move that makes me dislike him.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 24 2014, 07:38 PM) Yeah I mean, what does Chiellini do there? He's been bitten for FFS. Danny said Chiellini raised his elbow, but looking at the replays it looks like Chiellini wasn't aware of Suarez being right behind him

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 24 2014, 07:43 PM) What I meant is what do people expect Chiellini to do? Of course he's going to try and push him away. You're playing a game of football, the last thing you expect is someone to be having lunch on your arm. You don't think of how to push him away, you just do it. Yeah, agreed. @ Filippo, don't know what you're really talking about Uruguay were getting just as stuck in as Italy and made their own fair share of dirty fouls. That being said it still does not justify a straight red for that challenge

btw kurt, it was Ivanovic he bit, not Vidic. But I guess Ivanovic is better seeing as he took a bigger chunk out of him.
That so far makes it all South American Sides through, only one European so far in this WC...
