AC Milan vs. Sampdoria

Serie A 2007/08 - Week 29

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

San Siro

I think Cassano is still serving his suspension.

Latest news on injuries for Milan is still up in the air. No news on whether Seedorf or Kaka will be available (still being evaulated). Nesta and Janku /should/ be available. Gourcuff hurt his ankle and did individual training.

k that explains why he wasn't at the game.

No need to worry what he says but just for your information here are the words of Walter Mazzari:

QUOTE
'We don't ask ourselves what we can achieve. Before Wednesday we'll have one day's rest less than Milan, but we will give our all also against them and we'll continue like this until the end of the season, following our way of thinking.'

Posted by: Darunia Mar 17 2008, 01:24 AM

If we don't have Gourcuff, Seedorf, and Kaka.. we're in big trouble. We'll have no creativity at all.

Posted by: MizNelson Mar 17 2008, 07:06 AM

You think Sampdoria would be higher in the Serie A ranks if Cassano kept his head for more than five minutes at a time?

Yes, very. Cassano leaks talent, but he needs to have someone like Paolo around to mend his attitude problems. He is in a league of his own when it comes to being a bad boy - not even Totti comes close. smile.gif I still remember his days in Roma, though.

Posted by: acid911 Mar 17 2008, 09:24 AM

Getting back to the match, my prediction would be 2-1 in our favor. Unless we completely lack creativity in the midfield, in which cast it would be 1-2. tongue.gif

Posted by: zdrossoneri Mar 17 2008, 09:46 AM

I think Pato will score in this one since he's [almost] always scored once in every two games.

Napoli: 1 goal
Udinese: NA
Atalanta: NA
Genoa: 2 goals
Reggina: NA
Fiorentina: 1 goal
Palermo: NA
Catania: 1 goal
Lazio: NA
Empoli: 1 goal
Roma: NA
Sampdoria: ?

Posted by: Tennie Mar 17 2008, 08:17 PM

There's good news and bad news from today's training.

The good news: Nesta and Janku trained regularly with the team and are (to quote/translate from acmilan.com) 'to all effects recuperated'.

The bad news: Kalac twisted a knee in training and his condition will be evaluated.

Kaka and Seedorf trained separately, though Seedorf said in an interview that he feels better and expects to be available for selection.

Posted by: zdrossoneri Mar 17 2008, 08:31 PM

^^

Well, I think Kalac should go back to the bench. he's not been playing well lately.

Bring Dida back... I miss him!!

Posted by: kurtsimonw Mar 17 2008, 08:39 PM

So Dida will be playing? 1-2 for me then.

Posted by: Darunia Mar 17 2008, 11:10 PM

Dida
Oddo Nesta Kaladze Jankulovski
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kaka Seedorf
Pato

good, solid team if we get some injured players back.

I'd like to see Pato-Paloschi up front. but I think the Christmas tree is more probable, especially after the way we played against Roma.

Posted by: Tennie Mar 17 2008, 11:22 PM

I'd love to see Paloschi with Pato but agree with zd. The Christmas Tree is more likely if Seedorf and Kaka both return. If one of them doesn't make it, then switch to a 4-3-1-2 with Paloschi partnering Pato. (I'm really impressed with Paloschi. He's come out of nowhere and he has an impact every time he plays).

I just checked and Gazzetta is predicting Darunia's lineup almost exactly; the only change is that they've got Kalac in goal.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Mar 17 2008, 11:32 PM

I'd prefer Kalac. He's been nothing special but there's no reason to make a sudden change.

But to see Kaladze again,..Kaladzity or not, this man is really a cat with 99 lives. For god's sake, why not Dario-Sandro, Daniele-Sandro, anything but Kala again. If he'll be the one to take care of Cassano we could be in trouble.

I prefer Kalac as well but

MILAN - A.C. Milan communicates that Zeljko Kalac has suffered a trauma to his right knee during today's training. He was immediately subjected to cures. His condition will be evaluated tomorrow.

Posted by: dst Mar 18 2008, 12:36 AM

We've seen time and time again that a high number of dmf's does NOT provide us with defensive stability. I hope to (sadly I know I will not) see Pato and Paloschi to play together up front and only Pirlo with Ambro in front of the defense... Gattuso needs some rest and this is the right time... we're playing at San Siro for ****s sake!

i bet it's bs to get dida back in there. just watch he'll start all our remaining games

i actually have the feeling he'll have a decent game. does it change the fact that he's finished and must leave? not at all.

QUOTE
Seedorf keeps fourth faith

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf is adamant that Rossoneri will finish in fourth place, despite last weekend’s defeat against Roma.

The Diavolo saw a 1-0 lead evaporate in a dramatic 2-1 defeat away to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night.

The world champions’ misery was intensified by victories for Juventus and Fiorentina on Sunday and now Milan trail the Champions League qualification places by four points.

However, Seedorf, who was the Rossoneri’s outstanding player in the capital, is keeping the faith that Milan can avoid the unthinkable of settling for a UEFA Cup spot.

“I think that with conviction and determination this side will manage to finish in fourth,” the Dutch international told the Milan Channel.

“As far as our morale is concerned, if we were expecting a series of Finals before the Roma game then now we are expecting it to be harder still.

“But I don’t think that there is any other side in Italy who know how to play a Final better than we do,”

I wouldn't mind seeing Offredi play on Wednesday if Kala and Dida are not available.

Posted by: m1ke Mar 18 2008, 10:44 AM

Why do we need to rest any players? This game against Samp is massive - it's not like we've got anything else to play for.

Sure, take some key players off if the game is going well, but I think it would be a bad move to start with anything less than our strongest (available) 11.

No. I meant recently. But does saves are normal IMO for a Milan keeper. The only match he was extra ordinary was against Fiorentina.

I agree he's been shaky recently, but I don't think he was impressive only against Fiorentina...

Anyway, I want either Dida or Offredi [I'm really curious to see how good he is] against Sampdoria.

Highlights from Carletto's prematch press conference:

* Il Capitano will be rested v. Samp
* Kaka, Nesta and Seedorf are back. smile.gif
* Janku may play; if he's not ready, Favalli will
* Dida had the flu over the weekend; that's why he wasn't on the bench
* Sammarco is one of the loaned players they're looking at maybe bringing back. (Sammarco is a midfielder co-owned with Samp).

Call ups:

MILANELLO - Ecco i convocati del Milan per domani:
Dida, Kalac, Fiori
Bonera, Favalli, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Nesta, Oddo
Ambrosini, Brocchi, Emerson, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf
Gilardino, Pato, Paloschi.
Giocatori non convocati [players not called up]: Aubameyang, Digao, Maldini, Simic.
Giocatori indisponibili [players not available for selection]: Cafu, Inzaghi, Ronaldo, Serginho

I really would like to know what Simic did to piss Carletto off.

Posted by: nuh Mar 18 2008, 05:41 PM

i think he is pissed with him from wht happend in 0506 when simic said something like carleto is not fair by not playing him and he might leave cuz of him i dunno something like that

Never heard something like that happened?? Also in 06/07 Simic played, and he played really well. I remember the Parma match for example! I don't know..maybe Simic said he wants to stay, so there's no need of showing him off,..But something must have happened.

Kalac? I've been telling that for years,...same high, same hairstyle, same look,..were's Roger Moore?

Posted by: Bluesummers Mar 19 2008, 04:41 AM

simic play? theres no need to call him up. Nesta maldini bonera and kaladze are better than him. Calling him would be a waste of a spot. Also he is defintaley NOT going to replace oddo at RB. I would say release him or use him in berbatov sale.

Posted by: misha Mar 19 2008, 09:47 AM

You should be able to watch the game through this site: http://www.atdhe.fr

Posted by: Tennie Mar 19 2008, 02:16 PM

Couple of notes from the 'breaking news' section on acmilan.com's italian page:

1. Kalac seems to have recovered and should start for sure.
2. Ronie had lunch with the squad today
3. (this is a surprise?) Simic is playing with the primavera today. Maybe he's been injured and is just getting back to fitness?

that goal pretty much sumones how bad our defence is.

kaladze shouldnt even be classified as a defender.

honestly he is probaly the worst starting 11 defender i have ever seen play for milan.

They scored twice pretty early due to terrible defending. We are actually playing with urgency but we aren't making anything good happen. They counter and our defense (especially Kaladze and Jankulovski) are playing terrible. Nesta is at least making an effort. Paloschi and Pato have played well but Sampdoria have 8 men in the box at all times.

they showed urgency only once we were down 2-0, we certainly dint start the game off like that. and they keep counter attacking cuz our midfield keeps giving it away 9especailly seedorf).

Pretty annoyed at the moment. We played an excellent 2nd half - we just (unbelievably) lacked urgency in the 1st. I guess we just have to be thankful that Napoli won.

Oh, and please think about what you're posting before you post it. It gets a bit tiring when we read the same insults aimed towards Galliani, Carlo, Silvio, the players, the groundsman etc. If your post isn't constructive, please think twice about posting it.

Cheers!

Unbelievable, Inter slipped up and Roma failed to capitalise on the mistake.

Here are the player ratings from Milannews (the branch of tuttomercatoweb that's dedicated to Milan) and partial translations of the original. Keep in mind that they tend to be very pro-Milan, so some of this is really harsh indeed. Glad I didn't have to suffer through this game.

Kalac 5 - Could have avoided the second goal.
Oddo 5 - When he has the ball, he seems afraid: 'cross or pass back?' is the hamlet-like doubt o fMassimo.
Nesta 5 - definitely not a good evening for Sandro either. Tried to make up for it after the Bonazzoli goal, but was late. Unfortunate.
Kaladze 4.5 - Terrible for the two goals conceded: giving him a starting position next season is a risk.
Jankulovski 4.5 - At least you can say it's his first game back after a long injury. Perhaps he wasn't ready to return.
- Favalli 6 - Started badly but at the end showed incredible heart: the symbol of Milan's impotence in the market, but tonight only applause for him. I
Gattuso 6 - The projection of the fans on the pitch. For him, we hope summer arrives soon.
Pirlo 4.5 - Aside from the free kick, seemed confused, showing an embarrassing indecision. He deserves rest, for him and for us.
Ambrosini 5 - Only played a half.
- Gilardino 5 - His night, like always, is Monday on the third channel of our tv. And we've seen it before. (nb - no clue what's on channel 3 on mondays but it can't be good).
Seedorf 5 - Started to play ten minutes before the end. Not a positive thing for a player of his personality.
Kakà sv - Would deserve a 10 for going to physical therapy at 4am. At least he tried.
- Paloschi 7.5 - Extraordinary, maybe even heroic, blessing for the fans: the real Albertro has heart and tremendous will to become great.
Pato 6.5 - Little Alexandre was in a desert. (eg, no service from the mids).

Ancelotti 7 - Deserves courage for picking the right Alberto: even so, there's more doubt about whether the squad still follows him.

sometimes Kalac dont get serious about the balls that is going on , this is the only reason that he is not a number 1

Thanks for that Tennie

Kalac 5: I think maybe we should switch to dida and see if he can stop a shot?
Oddo 6.5: Worked hard and was constantly attacking, which is a surprise.
Nesta 5: Not his night.

Janku 2.5: wtf are you doing half the time?
Gattuso 6: Still not his oldself but at least he was trying
Pirlo 5: Getting better and took useless shots.
ambro 5: half only not worth commenting.
Kaka: 10 just because he f****** gives a damn!!!
Pato 7.5: did very well with absoloutly zero support!
paloschi 8: worked hard showed passion! I think we'll be set for strikers in a few years.
Seedorf 4: what so without kaka you don't wanto try? trash performance
gilardino: n/a: Did he even do anything? I saw him only once in 45 minutes.
favalli: 6: sigh...why is paolo in the stands, dumb carlo dry.gif

Ancelotti Blames 'Two Unforgivable Mistakes'

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was extremely frustrated following his side's 2-1 home defeat against Sampdoria in the 29th matchday of Serie A on Wednesday evening.

Ancelotti did nothing to hide his disappointment following the Rossoneri's 2-1 defeat against the Blucerchiati at San Siro.

"It's not good, we went behind in an incredible way," commented the Milan coach at the end of the game.

"We made two unforgivable mistakes, then it was difficult to recover," he continued.

"The approach to the game was completely wrong. Kaka's exit was surely a heavy blow, but our faults go beyond anything else."

When asked whether the team is maybe a bit too old, Ancelotti admitted that it was possible.

"Maybe yes, but we must wait until the end of the season to discuss this. These are considerations which we must make in June.

"Today Sampdoria was more determined. The problem of this year is the home games where we have always found it difficult. In any case I am not thinking about abandoning the bench," concluded Ancelotti towards those who were suggesting that he should resign.

Damn, this was an important one,...

The only good news is Fiora lost too. They're also not in form.

Saw the goals. And now someone told Kaladze is better then Simic. Well, at this time, I belive Digao is better then Kaladze.

I don't wanna see that man in our s-11 till season end. Carlo please, make him disappear!

As if being in 5th wasnt bad enough Sampdoria have closed the gap on us to one point!

Why wasn't maldini at the game?

Posted by: Darunia Mar 20 2008, 12:09 AM

He played on the weekend and he doesn't play games every 3 days. He was in the stands.

This is really good that Carlo finally react towards the age of players , so Galliani cant make more description that we are fine ,

and then he and Berlusconi must act !

Unusually blunt postgame comments from Carletto. Translation on the fly so apologies in advance if I mess it up a bit.

"An ugly evening, we were all surprised with how we played. I thought that things were improving, instead we find ourselves at the lowest point of the season. We have lost a big chance. This attitude cannot be repeated, we cannot forget our values. When we think that the game is the resolution of all our problems, we're wrong. There are other components we can't forget like application and sacrifice and this was the key to the loss, not Kaka's substitution.

"Milan has quality, more than we did in 2002 when we also struggled to reach 4th place. Now enough playing around, we must answer with facts. We want 4th place, but we have to win it. At home, we've begun games too softly, except the one against Naples. We therefore have to end this negative trend and not think that it can all be resolved with pretty play. Against obstacles like this, Milan needs to be attentive, careful, and cynical. When the situation is compromised, heart is often not enough. In the second half today, we played better but it had all been compromised in the first half."

[here's the original]

Thanks for the translation. You have to admit that Carlo, while he cares deeply about his players, more often than not doesn't try to pull punches in his postmatch interviews.

It seemed we played with a little more urgency in the second half, though I could be wrong. I had to skip out early to get a haircut. I've had a bad case of turf toe all week and practically had to limp to the subway station. rolleyes.gif

I know today's result is no laughing matter, but I thought that was cute. Don't ask me why.

I wasn't able to see the game, sounds like that was a good thing. A missed opportinuty today, we need to win as many home games as possible and pick up a few points on the road to make 4th.

the way we played was shocking. We actually went on all out attack for once in the entire season!

What a joke we've become.

Oh Carlo was not positive... but how could he? Coaches can say such stuff? For God's sake... this is ridiculous!! He should be fired immediately!!!
