Hi guys,
Just like to say a big thank you to all members for their support! It's you guys (and gals! 
) who keep the site going, which means that you have the power to change it.
Which leads me on to Milanfan v2! Work has already started, but this will basically be a complete re-design of the site. This isn't just around the corner, but with your help/ideas/input, it will be ready in time for the new season (probably sooner 
).
I would really appreciate your thoughts on the current site. What do you like about Milanfan. What don't you like? What would you change, and what would you like to see? Anything you can think of, just drop a post in this thread or send me a PM.

Hum... first, thank you m1ke for keeping up the best Milan website all over the Internet. I hope Milanfan can stay for the next years.
Changing to v2? Hum, it's hard to say anything... it's almost perfect. Probably a new logo (related to Milan), and some adds/improvements to the forum (like add that levels "1 post - amateur" | "10 posts - beginner" | "1000 posts - pro").
In general, I would like a "darker" MilanFan.com. How can I say... Milan is Rossoneri. Red&Black. Should use more Red&Black than Red&White(nowadays).
But, all I want for Milanfan, is to be alive for the next years/seasons.
Thank you m1ke, again, and to all the admin/moderators... and of course, to all the Rossoneri Community who use/visit the website & the forum.

Well I also think that Milanfan is already almost perfect. Its running fine as far as I can see so its hard to put my finger on anything thats inneed of a revamp! 
Maybe we could have the AC Milan logo on more things? Or is it copyright?
I personally dont like all the news on the front page, maybe have a link to go to the news instead of all the scrolling down to all the stories?
Maybe we need more people posting news and things? Spread the load a bit more?
apart from that all I can say is keep up the good work guys and dolls and well done to Mike for keeping up all the hard work

The thing is, is the news service Milanfan uses might not be able to do that but I'm sure Mike will find a way to do so.

I'm 1024 x 768, it won't matter if you make things in percent not pixels.
Although I'm sure you are aware of that

Yeah, really sorry about that guys. Boban, the person running the competition found it really hard to keep it going every week due to his other commitments, and I couldn't find anyone else who was willing to take it over.
I'm going to take the prizes from this season and make them up for grabs next season, so more people (rather than just 1st, 2nd etc.) will be able to get a prize. I'll also make sure that a team of people are in charge of it, and not just a single person

As for the whole load up your avatars from your own PC that is just the forums.
The forums are not made by milanfan, it is a set template (php coding, web design jargon!).
This is why it is hard to quickly change things on it.

The main thing that i'd like to see on V2 is that the main page uses as little 'fancy' design as possible. Stuff like QT, Flash & whatnot just causes the webpage to load slow on some computers, and myself, i like to click on MilanFan, and then within 2 seconds, the entire front page has loaded. Sorta like how it is now.
A more liberal use of the colour black wouldnt go amiss either.
Oh, and when i click on 'highlights' on a match report, it'd be nice if it went to the right thread.

There are going to be 2 versions of the new site, normal and 'lite'. These are just going to be defined by using seperate style sheets, and the site will remember your preference via cookies.
Black (and red) will be the site's primary colour(s)
And yeah, with regards to the highlights, that was always the intended aim. However, the match report is nearly always added before the highlight thread appears, which means someone needs to go back and manually edit the report to include the current link
But I'm glad you brought that up, because it's something thats being worked on!

mike i love the site ......sometimes i keep it running when i'm over the net just to catch the new Posts and news.......its great but more MILAN LOGO needed as the guys said.
hmmmm one more thing i've noticed in ACMILAN site that there is a breaking news banner (or what ever they call it) anyway can we be linked to that directly insted of visting the site ( for lazy ppl like me )
i know that thing dosnt give alot of details but just for a change .......

We do have an RSS feed which can be used as a breaking news service from milanfan.
But it's an idea, a good one, might take some work but I think we would make it happen

Seperate pages, as you said, is an excellent idea.
To be honest, just minor changes need doing, the site is near perfect, just a few minor niggles, like some of us have pointed out, need fixing, and the site will be perfect.

One thing I would like, is (for example): the story of the club.
As I said before in the thread: an improved forum would be great too.
Maybe a 'automatic-NEWS system from ACMilan.com - the official website'.

) in the huge comeback in the derby was indeed a must-have classic! was that you who uploaded it to milanfan? also should have the video clip after JDT (well, Inzaghi
) scored the 91st-minute winner against Ajax, the explosion of San Siro Stadium. That always brings tears to my eyes.

Regarding the use of flash - in principle the idea seems really good, but I know a lot of people really dislike it, and many claim it slows their pc down etc. However, as said previously in this thread, there will hopefully be 2 versions of the new site which should cater for everyones needs/preferences.

Color selection would be great!!!!The white one (if there is such) should be more red than the current one which is a bit pinky.

I woud definitely use it, and I think a lot of other people would too. Perhaps a REALLY prominent streaming link posted on the Home Page with a "fundamentals of streaming" section and a "troubleshooting" subsection would be helpful. From there we could have a common forum, under the same heading where members could provide the latest or best ways to stream the games. As I said, this site is $$$, but it would it be even better if it were also the #1 resource for people looking to stream ACM games.

@milan00047: Members writing their own match reports/reviews is very much encouraged within the specific game thread. Rating the players is a cool idea - I'll get thinking on how we can implement this!

I only drop in occassionally for news but I'm glad to see the activity level increase since I joined! It really is a very well done site Mike! I don't have anything new to add, just the rebrand to make it more readily apparent that it's a Milan site, more red and black, but heck, the URL does the job for me.
Appears you have everything db'd so why not add some filtering/searching mechanisms for the news, results, match reports, etc. You info architecture is pretty darn good but it could be a great with the adddition of the lazy man's tools. mod_rewrite to pretty up the URLs for search engines would add eyes for the info you're publishing.

There should also be like a "MilanFan's Guide to Milan." That is, a Separate page dedicated to actually going to matches with some sort of user's guide on where/how to get tickets,* the best seats at the San Siro, best places/hostels to stay in the area, best bars/clubs/restaurants in the area etc...I think it would be helpful esp for those of us hoping to make it to a game someday.
Maybe even plan a meeting at some point....(in the waaay distant future of course).
*I just saw the contact info for the San Siro in the "Club" section which was helpful...so maybe this suggestion is a bit moot. I still think a "MilanFan's Guide to Milan" is a good idea though especially in light of Nova's experience.

A feature like this (almost identical in fact) is already in the works. It will also allow Milanfan's to share their Milan trips with others, and review bits that may interest (their hotel, restaurants etc.)

Big signatures make the forum look really bad so it would have bin great if almost everyone had sigs that are at least about the same size.

Sigs we are starting to crack down on a bit more, some are enormous and for people on slower connections it's selfish having to load up a load of images when all they want to do is read some text.
So as for now signatures which are inexplicably big will be removed with no prior warning, if replaced a temporary/permanent ban maybe enforced.
New sig rules will come into place on the release of V2.
There is no need to fill up half a page with a sig, just keep to common sense.

Hmm.
Sounds like a good idea in practice. But wont MF be paying more for the extra space.
Maybe its just me, but the hosting sites like RS,MU,ect; are more than good enough imo.
If anything, any extra space on the server should be used for storing more videos or whatever.
But thats just my opinion.

The problem would be if you suddenly needed the space that you 'donated' to us members? If people get used to something being there, and its taken away...?
You could allways make sure you have an agreement with the people wanting the space, that clearly says that its subject to be removed at any time, with 1-2 days prior notice for backups. Saves problems then.

Like only once a member has made a certain amount of posts. and/or if they have contributed enough to the forum in regards to what the space would be used for, like videos. In other words, not everyone who wants the space can have it?

I have some suggestions for you m1ke to contemplate. It would be great to have new and improved user profiles with new tools and a friendlier interface. I was thinking of implementing a blog system for users and the ability to comment on them. Gives ranting a new edge and it would let us to get to know each other better. Badges would also be a nice touch, given to the member award winners. I understand that some of these may require more time to accomplish, but they are ideas and you can consider them.

Hey m1ke, I'm guessing it's way too late, but is there some way you can filter out double posts. Most double posts happen coz of lousy internet connections, something we all fall prey to sometimes.
I don't if this is possible with the tech you are using to build v2. The only example I can think of (that I personally know of ) is orkut. You try sending a msg you just send, you get an error saying that same msg was posted too recently.
I'm probably not explaining this correctly, but I hope you get the idea.
