Mesbah, Taiwo and Strasser will most definitely leave. Hopefully we sign a LB and DM before the window closes, for a squad of 28 players.

Formation? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I don't think it's a bad squad, but there's a lack of true quality on the whole. Agreed with X-Off on the DM. Don't see a LB being signed though unfortunately.

I can live with no new full-back, while he have prospects in Vilà, possibly Emanuelson, and especially De Sciglio.

It would mean they get chances, and I think that is something we simply should do with De Sciglio anyway.

Antonini and Abate are good enough for at least most games. Obviously we have no great full-back now, but the real focus should be on midfield while there is a true lack of creativity and defensive skill. The midfield plays a vital role at your whole game: it can either be a midfield that will dominate and create many attacks, or one that comes too short and fails helping defensively having let your defense a busy day, or something between that.

I still think that physically, technically, athletically, humbly, and tidely (in tackling) Strasser is better then Ambro.
Why he isn't playing as a backup when we are in a hurry to sign a backup to a near relegated ligue 1 team who barely knows italian, to say nothing of italian Calcio, is soulsqueezing.

I fail to see what makes Abate so much better than Antonini.

NT cred, Shutting down (on his day, granted) the likes of Eto'o, CRon (...) and overall less clumsy in D (which isn't to say he's particularly THAT good in D)

The keywords being so much. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If the passing grade is 50, Antonini gets a 35, while Abate is at 52. In a perfect world Antonini would not be playing for us, and Abate would be on the bench at best. The former is just a limited one-dimensional player, and the later is just plain okay, nothing special.

This season it was Abate who was the most clumsy in defense.

The season before obviously he was the better one, but then also remember Antonini had an amazing season even earlier (with Ronaldinho). Both have their ups and downs. And after this season, I believe Antonini deserves a bit more credit, and Abate a bit less, than what they are getting at the moment.

I can't agree with anything of that.

What makes Antonini a so called one-dimensional player?

Antonini had that one good season because of Ronaldinho, and just that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) The guy somehow connected with the lazy Brazilian and I agree, he played with heart, capping the season with that goal in the last match. But as soon as Ronaldinho was out of the picture, Antonini's performance levels vaporized.

As for the one dimensional bit, the guy isn't leadership material, weak at crosses, not that good at defending and even lacks that extra bit of speed to pressurize the opposing attackers. Sure he's miles better than someone like Mesbah, but Abate at least makes up for a few departments where he lacks by his speed.

Though you can say that Antonini maybe put up a better display (by his standards) this season, and Abate made a bunch of crucial mistakes, and I'd have a hard time denying that. But ultimately, both are B-level players. Had we someone better for both position, I'd safely assume they'd have a hard time starting.

I've never been really sold on either. Both of them are unreliable defensively (Antonini moreso), but Abate turns into an ameteur once he passes the half way line, he can't do anything.

Which has been just weird considering he started off being a winger!
