Well, Cagliari is a club with reputation! Sure, it's a long time ago, but the've won the Serie A, which was not exactly easy back then in the 70ties. Their reputation is probably bigger then Parmas, but...

CC had legends, like Albertosi or Gigi Riva, and btw. Zola ended his career with Cagliari.

Posted by: zdrossoneri Nov 21 2007, 07:49 PM

After Suazo's departure I'm no longer worried about our games with them.

Easy win for Milan.

Posted by: Tennie Nov 21 2007, 07:56 PM

Cagliari is where Pasquale Foggia (who Milan finally offloaded in the deal to get Oddo) plays. Foggia has earned call ups to the NT and has been on as a sub at least once. He may prove dangerous.

Given Milan's domestic form, I'm hesitant to predict anything.

On a serious note that is true. Also I think he will enstill renewed confidence in the team. It's all about playing in a relaxed manner and not going out there worrying about where the next goal is going to come from. Hopefully if Ronnie plays we'll revert back to the 4-3-1-2, him and Gila built a good partnership with each other last season

Posted by: amancik Nov 23 2007, 09:02 AM

somehow, I'm very optimistic about this game
I've got a feeling that this might be the time ....

I hope Gourcuff and Ronaldo be able to start ...

Posted by: Tennie Nov 23 2007, 07:40 PM

Here's goal.com's probable lineup:

Dida
Oddo Nesta Maldini Kaladze
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Seedorf
Ronaldo Inzaghi

And here's Gazzetta's:
Dida
Cafu Nesta Kaladze Favalli
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Seedorf
Ronaldo Inzaghi

Now I'm really sad. The first time Milan plays a 4-3-1-2 in ages and I won't get to see the game.

Not surprising to see Kaka omitted -- he had a hella long flight from the Brazil qualifiers and there are big games coming up. I suspect Maldini is being rested for the CL game and/or the Juve game right after.

Posted by: han2503 Nov 23 2007, 08:17 PM

Ronaldo probably will only bay about 60-75 minutes. Then I expect Yoann to replace him and we play with the xmas tree, since Kaka probably won't even travel with the team

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Nov 24 2007, 06:39 AM

Gourcuff replacing R99 I don't think so. If by the time Ron comes off, we're comfortably ahead, Brocchi will come on, and Ambro will play striker. wink.gif

DEFENDERS: Bonera, Cafu, Digao, Favalli, Maldini, Nesta, Oddo, Serginho

ATTACKERS: Aubameyang, Gilardino, Kakà, Inzaghi, Ronaldo

Posted by: arivanjj Nov 24 2007, 01:59 PM

btw wat's wrong with Seedorf? international duty?

Posted by: Tennie Nov 24 2007, 02:11 PM

Yep, probably, Ari. He did come home early from international duty though -- didn't play the last Netherlands game.

I think Il Capitano will be rested for this one (or will only play a very few minutes). There's a CL game on Wednesday. I also think Oddo may play. He did rather well during the Italy game on Wednesday.

Posted by: Tennie Nov 24 2007, 04:55 PM

(from acmilan.com's italian page)http://www.acmilan.com/NewsDetail.aspx?idNews=56846
Here's part of what Carletto said in today's press conference:

[Cagliari has changed coaches and we're not sure how they'll play. It'll be a complicated game but we've worked well and should get a result. Sonetti has a lot of experience and is a very determined man who will help Cagliari. Foggia? He's a player who was brought up in our youth team but found little space. Ronaldo will play from the beginning, he's well and will finally start to give his contribution. We expect from him the same as he gave last year. He more than everyone has a great will to play. Seedorf twisted his ankle in training, and Kaladze and Simic only returned yesterday and are especially tired, they're working with an eye toward Wednesday. Seedorf didn't play Wednesday with his national team and was doing well; the injury is unfortunate. Kaka will be called under extraordinary circumstances. In any case Kaka would be called up to cover for Seedorf's absence, and probably would've been on the bench tomorrow; now he'll start. (nb, I'm a little confused by this part of the passage and I think I'm accurate in translating that Kaka will start, but I could have messed it up) Inzaghi has a fever and Gilardino will start with Ronaldo. The only doubts are the outside backs. We want to do well in the league and do our best form now to Christmas. We should earn as many points as possible and it won't be easy. ]

Posted by: Darunia Nov 24 2007, 06:28 PM

Hopefully Kaka can get some time off in the second half... with Gourcuff comin on. You know Ronaldo won't play the whole game so I could see Gourcuff coming on playing alongside kaka too.

Oddo was great with Italy, he started this season on great form as well but wasn't playing so well before he got that injury, maybe he only just needed a bit of rest since he was practically playing every minute of every game we were playing

Ronaldo is origanally a supporting striker and can still play in that role, but I don't think he can handle it as well as before because of his physical issues, at least not as consistantly. His effectiveness didn't get effected by this because he's just as much a great finisher as any box striker

QUOTE
Sonetti sets Ronaldo trap

Ronaldo makes his debut in Sardinia, so Cagliari Coach Nedo Sonetti hatches a cunning plan to tame the Milan star.

“Will we construct a tactical cage to limit him? No, we’ve got a real one we’re borrowing from the circus,” joked the boss.

“The truth is that against a world class player like this there is very little one can do. If he is in good shape, Ronaldo is one of the best on the planet.”

It will also be a debut for Sonetti, who returns to the Sardinian bench after replacing the sacked Marco Giampaolo.

“I am very excited, but also concentrated on a difficult game. In any case, we will try to stop Milan. My tactics have not changed, so a four-man defence with a midfield of three if not four players.

“It all depends on Pasquale Foggia, but there are always three attacking players to move forward. I want to see a courageous team with real character.”

Foggia is expected to start in ‘the hole’ behind Alessandro Matri and Under-21 international Robert Acquafresca.

Cagliari-Milan is the live game on Five, coverage begins at 13.30.

Football Italia

I think our defense will be on top form to stop their attempts.

Plus, I doubt Cagliari can contain Ronaldo, he is too dynaimic a player for them to handle, unless they double up on him .. Which is good, as it would open up spaces for Kaka' and gila would have more chances

Posted by: zdrossoneri Nov 25 2007, 09:44 AM

Wish we could always play with two strikers... but when we got only 3 strikers, one of them is out with injury most of times and the other two cannot perform with each other, that's an impossible dream. of course until January, when the Duck's season is about to begin devil.gif

That's why it never works when Gila and Inzghi play together. Gila is not a supporting striker so he can't do what that role entails from him. He tried last season when he was being constantly played in that position with Pippo but it never worked

Mostly. We've only managed to put pressure on them a couple of times. They have parked a bus infront of their goal and will only hack the ball clear and try to create a counter out of it.

Tempo fairly slow also

Ok...now I need ratings and highlights. Downloadable please!!

To work, u lazy bums, you've all enjoyed your international break. Time to earn your keep.

And drag the greek off his linear algebra text book chop-chop. I want my ratings.

10ster linguist extraordinaire...your move...bring in datasport.

And somebody please sell Kaka. Useless Brazillian kid. Doesn't sell shirts, doesn't score penalties...bah! He even takes forever to win the golden ball!

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Nov 25 2007, 05:11 PM

Carlo was tacitically sound tonight !

And what a performance from Milan, always tried to keep possesion and create chances. And it was good to see Ronaldo back, as well as gila scoring king.gif

My ratings:

Dida 7 He stopped their attempts on several occasions.

Oddo 6 He was the reason why we conceded, wasn't challenging for the jump.

Nesta 7 I think a 7 is an average performance from the man wink.gif

Maldini 9 He kept any threat coming from his side of the pitch at bay.

Serginho 7 he still needs time, though he gave us that width and crossing

Ringo 8 he was all over the pitch

Pirlo 9 a class of his own cool.gif

Ambro 7 did well to difuse their attempts and took charge of the left flank at times.

Kaka' 7 he wasn't 100% ready. Plus, he missed Seedorf.

Ronaldo 5 It was good that he got a full 90 minutes out on the pitch, but he needs more time.

Gila 8 Though his goal was lucky, his movement was clear throughout the 90 mins.

Bonera 8 decisive.

Cafu 6 lacked match fitness

Broochi N/A

This was a very bad game for Milan.

A 7 for Maldini . But kaka was the worst of the whole bunch. IMO

Posted by: mishie Nov 25 2007, 05:36 PM

disjointed, lethargic and unconvincing.
the space between the front 2 and the midfield was far to much,Kaka's efforts for brazil was obviously to much for this game. Gila had a good game and Ronaldo is far from match fit but things will come

Posted by: han2503 Nov 25 2007, 05:38 PM

Here are some rating these are especially for you Jack wink.gif

Dida: 7.5 - Very secure, couldn't do anything about the goal. But is being steady again especially on set pieces.

Oddo: 5.5 - Didn't do much, didn't go up his flank as much as we'de like him to and didn't keep his side clear, Although Rino did leave him isolated most of the time.

Nesta: 8 - He was amazing today, nothing went past him. Players tried to go through, he would come across and it's like running into a wall. Getting back to his best

Paolo: 8 - Still has that sprint to him to outrun players half his age. Pure elegance both while defending and just easing players off the ball and going forward.

Sergio: 6.5 - Was pretty bad in the first half, he didn't seem like he had the confidence to go forward. But came out looking sharper in the second half, making runs and crosses down the flanks and cutting inside just as dangerously

Ambro: 7 - Unlike in his last game he was very steady today and didn't put a foot wrong.

Pirlo: 8.5 - Amazing goal and some neat play to go along with it. He was going a lot more forward in the second half but also defended really well. Cleaning up balls from defence and creating attacks with accurate passes. Great display from Pirlo today, this is what we want to see from him.

Rino: 6.5 - Did his usual job, but at time, as previously mentioned he left Oddo isolated to deal with the winger and fullback all on his own because he kept drifting more to the centre of the pitch then he usually does.

Kaka: 6 - Really quite game, and could have done better with that penalty, let's hope he's saving the goods for Benfica and Juve.

Ronaldo: 6.5 - Still getting into his stride, but there were moments when he got the ball and you could see pure genius from him. The shot that struck the post was beutifully taken with the inside of his boot. Just needs a couple more games to get becak to 100% and then we'll see what he can really do.

Gila: 7.5 - Great goal, almost scored another in the first half but was cleared off the line and won the free-kick that got us the winner. Made great movement all throughout the game and help up the ball very well. He really seems to be coming into his own this season, hopefully he keeps it up. His goal was pricless today, especially at the time it came in.

Subs

Cafu: 5.5 - Didn't do much but tried to go up his flank as much as he could in the limited time he had to play.

Bonera: 9 - Just for the amazing goal line clearance he made, he gets a 9. Never seen anything like it, the speed at which the ball was coming in and Bonera just managing to get there and clearing it so well with his weaker foot. It was amazing. Other then that, it was a very solid performance no mistakes, did his job perfectly. He is another one that is coming into his own and hopefully we'll see more of him this season.

Brocchi: N/A - But from the little I saw he seems to be in good shape, made some nice tackles and looked good going forward

Carlo: 8 - Have to say, the big man did really well today. Made his changes at a good time (even though they were forced) and changed things up a bit to win the game.

As for the performace of the team in general, it wasn't that good. First half was really bad, no direction, no ideas, kept trying to do the same thing over and over again when it clearly wasn't working. The second half wasn't a total turnaround like against Samp and we didn't blitz Cagliari away, but it was a determined performance and we did what we had to do to get the 3 points.

Hopefully it's just because the team is adjusting back into the different formation now that we are playing with 2 stikers again and we'll fine tune it more in the upcoming games before we go to Tokyo

Posted by: m1ke Nov 25 2007, 05:39 PM

I thought we played reasonably well, considering they were playing with 6 defenders for most of the game.

My ratings -

Dida: 6.5
Oddo: 6
Nesta: 6.5
Maldini: 7
Serginho: 6.5
Pirlo: 7
Gattuso: 6
Ambro: 6
Kaka: 6
Gila: 6.5
Ronnie: 6

We really need a win in Benfica to ensure qualification early - we've got a busy month coming up!

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Nov 25 2007, 06:20 PM

The turning point in that game was the switch to the 3-4-1-2. That added width which we have desperately lacked, and we managed to salvage the game. This tactic should have been employed earlier on in the season to be honest. Its more effective than playing Ambrosini up front anyway

It wasn't a good game by Milan
I thought it was gonna be a draw, only miracle could win us the game
And Pirlo did just that ...

The worst player of Milan today was Oddo
The best was Pirlo and Serginho although Pirlo didn't do much except the free-kick
Gilardino looked more assured and confident playing alongside another striker like Ronaldo
Ronaldo did pretty okay, he was unlucky to not score only managing to hit the right post with a decent shot
But it's the result that's important ...

I kinda have a feeling that we might actually give Juve a hardtime next week ...
Forza Milan!

Posted by: amancik Nov 25 2007, 07:06 PM

owh yeah I must point out former Milan player, Foggia really troubled our defence today

aside from the free-kick, Cafu produced something you don't see in every match ...

Ambrosini is not useless. He's a DMF with no attacking abilities, just like Gattuso... and it's not Ambro's fault that Carlo keeps fielding them both! We expect from him do to more than he is able to do while in my view,he's not worse than Rino!

That's just wrong thinking. He is our captain when Maldini is out, and in many occasions he is very usefull. Your rethorics considering Ambrosini is just too harsh.

Brocchi didn't look that bad when he came on in the game, but that is besides the point since I completely agree with you, and most of us here know that the 2 defensive mids are not required in Serie A
