So it's still the matchday revenue that's biting us in the butt.

RealMadrid and Barca between them take up 50% of the TV revenue in SPain. There's no way we can compete with that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

La Liga is such a flawed league, it's ruined.

I feel sorry for Spurs fans. Despite Villa's attendances being higher, Spurs made 15m more on matchdays, they must get charged crazy prices for tickets.

I'll never understand why Arsenal are so popular in Europe. They're not even comparable to the big European clubs in terms of silverware and history.

The big concern (to me) is that Milan got 60% from the revenue from broadcasting. This simply means tv-rights from the Serie A, CL and Tim Cup. The tv-rights are split evenly since this season. So that means that Brescia gets the same amount as Milan gets. Meaning that Milan will get less from tv-rights in the Serie A.

I forgot to mention: these are the statistics from 2009/2010.

Seems strange to pick out Arsenal. They're the biggest club in one of the biggest cities in the World, they will undoubtedly be popular. They're also the 3rd biggest club in England with a great history.

I could understand if you said Chelsea, they have no history to speak of and even still aren't one of the top 5 in England.

Well, 13 domestic leagues and one Champions League final in 125 years of history don't seem that astounding. Of course they should be popular in England, I'm not judging that. What I find weird is that they're very popular in Europe as well. I mean, from the statistics, they are even more popular than Milan, Liverpool and Juventus, which have made of history of European football. What's up with that?

Nottingham Forest have history, we have history. It doesn't matter talking about the past, we just need to make more history. Living off the past is what frustrates me about teams, especially Liverpool.

America also has a weird fixation with Arsenal as well. Not sure why either.

Because Bergkamp's team played the best football on Earth! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) I like no one in that team now, all those young guys just annoy me. (well I like Wilshere and Walcott though I think the latter could be so much better if he was a bit smarter)

Well the EPL as a whole is more popular so it's only normal... plus from my experience Italian clubs have a negative image.

Nottingham Forest have a history, but they didn't manage to live up to it, whilst Milan, Liverpool and Juventus are still top European clubs.

How many clubs are bigger than Arsenal though, really? In terms of success anyway.. Juve, Milan, Inter, Barca, Madrid, Bayern? A few other teams have had their success, but aren't from a popular league like Ajax. I still think Arsenal have been a top 10 team over the past 2 decades or so.

Inter is the weird one for me. Pre-calciopoli I still knew far more Inter fans than I did Juve/Milan, but why? They didn't even win a single league title in the 902 or early parts of the 2000s, they'd not won a European Cup for anyone under the age of about 50 to remember.. surely they wouldn't get so popular over a few UEFA Cup wins?

I've got one word for you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) On second thought, make that an image:

Yes, pretty much. Inter were a bit like Spurs. Maybe bigger. They always, always had a good team with some big names.

I'd still put Ajax and Porto infront and Arsenal behind them. But like dst said, the Bergkamp generation spoiled everyone and made people fans of the Wenger style. Also, nowdays it's way more popular to have a bunch of talents and babies which you can "discover" and talk about them for hours then a boring old Milan full of players everyone knows of. Youth these days is popular, like a political pamphlet.

IMO Inter never ever outnumbered Juve fans Pre-calciopoli. But Inters popularity came also from all the erratic and media-flirty transfers like Djorkaeff, Seedorf, Keane,... Plus Ronaldo. He was the phenomenon of the 90's.
