Only one Italian based player up for the Ballon D'or - Sneijder of course.

Not a single other player from Serie A is considered.

Not a single other player from Serie A is considered.

Definitely a sign of the deterioration of the league in mainstream eyes of worldwide football fans.

Well, if you think hard...there ain't really many big stars. Sure, Thiago could/should have been slected, but...

If Nani got short-listed there are a number that should have been from Serie A too.

Silva was a glaring ommission, maybe Ibra too.

Who cares about the Ballon D'or anymore? After Milito was not listed the other year I really can't take it seriously. I mean Klose and Gyan were on it instead of him!?

I don't like how the list is done. For me players like Di Natale and Cavani scoring the tonnes of goals they do at their respective clubs is more impressive than a striker at a very top club scoring the same amount of goals since they have it 'easier'. Benzema was playing for Madrid and din't even score many and he's on there! Nani did have a good year, but nothing that outstanding. As for Suarez and Abidal. Well considering 12 out of 23 players represent Barca and Madrid ... Doesn't that mean Spanish football is way ahead of all the other leagues in Europe?

They're definitely FIFAs favourite clubs.

Agreed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) There are some things in life not meant to be understood. This is one of it.

It means the top 2 teams are very good, yes.

It also strange to see Wenger on the short list (10 names) of nominees for the coach of the year award. Last time he won something was 6 years ago.

Also, all the coaches who won titles at the big leagues are there, bar Allegri.

The Wenger nomination was absurd.

And yes, Sneijder is the only Italian based 'anything' in this.

Shows how far Italy has plummeted in the scheme of things.

It's just a poor list. Look at Di Natale in 2011 for example, 25 goals in 28 Serie A games. Messi has 27 in 29 in La Liga, hardly different. Then it's not like he has Xavi, Iniesta, Villa and Fabregas around him. How is he not on there? It seems like the club(s) you play for has too much bearing. I'm not saying these type of players should even get close to winning it, but they deserve to be on the final list.

If you play for Barca you will be favorable, no doubt.

I agree. Since Ballon d'or and the FIFA World player something award became one Ballon d'or became as useless as the FIFA award. It's just about being popular these days. And you're much more popular if you play for Real or Barca. The actual achievements...who cares? That's why Messi won it last year. This years shortlist is a joke and basically based on the players potential/popularity.
