AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Other _ End of the road for some players

Posted by: Danny Jan 25 2015, 08:14 AM

Last night's atrocity was revealing in many extents. We knew Pippo is out of his depth, that wasn't anything illuminating.

But it confirmed the end of the road for a great number of our players, players who simply do not produce anything like the level the Club needs to progress out of this nightmare.

Want to take a quick look at what players need to go, and which ones we need to build around.

Go:

Mexes - his best days are behind him, and they were never that stunning in the first place. He's lost it in the head and body and his time is up. Unfortunately Pippo has already 'forgiven' him.

Monto - I've been so harsh on SES for having no form since 2012 that I completely overlooked that Monto has been worse. Hasn't had an ounce of form since summer 2013, two or three games notwithstanding. He's a failure and has to go.

SES - He tries, yes, but he just doesn't cut it for this club. Can't score, can't assist, can't dribble. He has next to no end product at all.

Muntari - Disgraced the shirt again and while he can be handy as a sub he's a deadweight as a starter.

Armero - Just utterly mediocre - can't read the LB position and he's astounding weak. Dreadfully poor player.

Bonera - Attitude isn't in question, ability is. Caught constantly in the past 12 months and his time is up, even as a squad player.

Build around:

Lopez - Simply the best goalkeeper in my lifetime at Milan. He's that good. He's better than Dida.

Abate - Wonderful RB who lacks the credit he deserves. Borderline world class and essential to our cause.

Alex - Puts his head where it hurts, and collosal when it matters. But does need the right partner.

MDS - I'm not giving up on him yet - with the right coaching he can be special again. For now, dire.

De Jong - Probably will leave but he's been overall our best player since he signed. Monumental contribution.

Van Ginkel - He'll be leaving in the summer - but if we give this kid more of a run and chance he can be quite impressive in midfield. Has suffered Pippo's rotation nonsense.

Bonaventura - Real class act - lots of industry and effort, no lack of skill, and been, Lopez aside, our best player this season.

Menez - Capable of brilliance. Stunning player when in the mood. Just needs to get the consistency and attitude into his game.

Unsure:

Cerci - Don't know what he can do yet for us, truly. Unknown at this time.

Suso - Hasn't played so who knows where he's at.

Zapata - Has been more hit than miss at Milan but like Alex needs the right partner. That partner appears to be Alex.

Pazzo - Handy as a sub, and in the cup. Not a lot else going for him.

Mastour - Want to put him in the second list but he's a kid and I ain't heaping massive pressure on him. Has so much potential though.

Essien - Actually been far better in the past 3 or 4 months than he was to start with, but in the past 2 or 3 weeks showed signs of his old weak self.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't keep Essien, unless we have no other options (probably the case). Unfortunately, while I agree with most of your lists, the chances of us replacing even those bad players with anything better isn't likely.

Can't say that I agree with much of what you preach Danny, not gong to bother to get into it with you because I know we'll go around in circles until you tell me that it's pointless to discuss it

It does show though that with better coaching I think we could get a lot more out of what we have.

Well if we did go round in circles, wouldn't that be the tautological pointlessness you're on about?

PS, not preaching, just expressing my opinion. You're entitled to yours and I never said otherwise.

I do feel like you're defending Mexes out of sheer principle now, ditto Monto. They've become two of the most unpopular players at the Club among fans, with you being a staunch defender of both.

And you can stick by your guns on them if you like - I know you're capable of change, as you did re: Niang. I just can't quite fathom why you still side with these two who have in different ways disgraced the shirt this season.

If Muntari did what Mexes did you'd have wanted him out the club. Oh wait. He did! And you did!

Quote one post where I defended Monto after the last game...

For me he was undoubtedly the major flop of the game. But once again, I feel like you take your opinions of players to the ultimate extreme. You're either 100% behind them, supporting them and touting them as good or you're all out against them, can't stand them and they're terrible. There's no in-between with you, and I think that's the reason why you and I tend to clash so much in opinions.

And no, I'm not defending Mexes on principle, I defend him because he's a good defender, one of the only 2 good ones we have. Simple as that. For me, what he did yesterday was terrible, and I've always acknowledged that he is a hot head and has that in him when things boil over. But I've always backed him 100% based on his abilities. Which no, aren't Nesta level, but he is pretty good, and pretty good is the best we can get right now, even if that sometimes comes along with a bad temper. And we knew he had that in him before we signed him from his Roma days, no one seemed to consider it such an issue back then.

As for Monto, no, I absolutely do not agree with you when you put him in the same bracket as f@cking Muntari! Yes, he's been awful these last run of games, no arguments from me there. But you can say that for basically any other outfield player on this team, only Bonaventura has had decent flashes, the others have all been p!ss poor.

Ok, let's leave it there then, ok?

Is this where we've ended up, a kind of hopeless futile, pointless predicament where there's no point even discussing us any more?!

I meant, there is no point in giving thoughts about such a situation? You guys log into the forum and quarrel about anything and everything; even directing the venting down each other's throats because we can not reach B&G nor the coach nor the players .... What is the point?

Then to put my Han hat on, why are you on this forum if you don't want to discuss?
