What's up with Mexes? He hasn't played yet in this pre-season right?

We'd be really ****** if he's injured for the start of the season.

And I really want to see Monto start in front of the defence, see how that works out. Insisting with Ambro at this point is fruitless

Posted by: d'Arc.LP Aug 8 2012, 05:01 PM

Ahhh perfect timing. It's Ramadan and I usually stay up all night 'cos we eat at 3 AM before fasting all day. I have a feeling we'll own Madrid this time, but it wont matter since it's a friendly.

Montolivo is apparently slightly injured so he may not take part in tonight's game against Real Madrid. Ambrosini is set to start. (RossoneriBlog)

Not complaining just asking a question since when we don't see a player on the team sheet it generally means that the player is injured in our case

Posted by: CHU-LIP Aug 8 2012, 07:22 PM

I really don't like the rumoured starting midfield. At least one of Emanuelson and Montolivo should start. Now there is zero creativity in the midfield, and also the full-backs are weak attacking wise.

Milan: (4-3-3): Abbiati; Abate, Bonera, Acerbi, Antonini; Nocerino, Ambrosini, Flamini; Cassano, Boateng, Robinho.

Madrid (4-2-3-1): Casillas; Nacho, Varane, Pepe, Coentrão; Lass, Khedira; Di Maria, Özil, Ronaldo; Benzema.

I think Acerbi is the slowest player I've ever seen. Cassano looks completely out of shape.

what i said had nothing to do with what he's done in the past. while i admit i'm not the fondest fan of ambrosini you have to admit playing with 10 men would do milan better than having our defense with expectation of him doing anything useful in midfield. he's done. he should've left with the rest. simple as that.

5-1, wow... before anyone says it's a friendly and results don't matter in friendlies... they DO. if we'd lost 2-1, or 3-1 I could understand, but this is too much.

A bitter taste of what our wonderful management have made out of Milan. Traore, Mesbah, Constant, Acerbi, Muntari... no offense but it's a disgrace that some of them are supposed to be our XI this season. yes we've had a lot of crappy/average/mediocre players before but they were only substitutes to great ones.

I'm not even hopeful this loss will act as a reality check for B&G, they've got their heads firmly in the sand. they're convinced our 1-0 win over Chelsea means we remain competitive FFS laugh.gif

I don't get one thing, what's the point of playing one of the world's strongest teams in pre-season? they totally destroyed that small bit of self-confidence the team had gained in the previous games. I won't be surprised if from now on we'll see a different Milan in friendlies/season games. we've proved to be very fragile in terms of confidence under Allegri. as soon as a superior team crushes us, we seem to lose all confidence. if that happened with the likes of Nesta, Silva, Seedorf, Ibra, etc. what are we expecting now? next game see how Robinho misses a sitter or something and remember I told you so!

And what's even more annoying is that we're waiting until the very last day of the transfer window to make our damn moves which won't be that good anyway. some panic buys that will take weeks or months to adopt to their new team and perform as expected.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Aug 9 2012, 09:18 AM

I'm a little surprised no one saw this coming. I'm actually impressed we even scored a goal. Mourinho was always gonna put out his strongest side, while Allegri is still playing Lego with the squad at the moment.

I was expecting a 2 goal difference loss. So yes this one is excessive, but not entirely derailing. We had our best forward out, our best creator looking bored, our second/third string defence, and our main creative mid out.

We'll win nothing this year, that's a given (if we stay the way we are in the squad), but we won't be THIS bad. IMO, this was Madrid against Milan B.

That said, I do agree with Zed.D's point about confidence.

Posted by: William405 Aug 9 2012, 11:27 AM

The things is this CB pairing is not only pretty slow, but none of them is a playmaking CB,or at least one that is good with the ball. So,we lost the ball a lot from silly passes from our CBs,and hey the fullbacks didn't do that better either.Their was a lack of communication between Abate and Flamini there..specially in the defence.Nocerino did well when he had the ball, and Ambrosini...well I didn't even notice he was playing.

Cassano will be an essential part of our team,so I say give him that pay raise or we're gonna lose yet another essential component. He can turn everything around with 1 touch.

We played against a high pressure Madrid, and we couldn't handle that pressure well at all...It's clear Allegri's work is still really really raw with the team,so I'll be looking to see the changes he will do.

Posted by: Lawbaba Aug 9 2012, 11:53 AM

Well personally,i never expected us to defeat Real cuz this is a new generation of players that needz time to blend and find a rhythm before we can compete with the best teams in the world.
Neverthless, purchasing quality players like strootsman, khedira, kaka, crisito etc than quality will help facilitate our course.
Forza milan

Dude, you do realize that Berlusconi doesn't give two shits anymore whether we're competitive or not. The guy sold our two best players to balance the books, welcomed foreign investors publicly for the first time, and is about to enter into politics again. It's pretty clear his interest in this club has finished down the drain.

Apparently Galliani was very angry to Allegri about our 5-1 loss to Madrid. All the major Italian sport papers are reporting it. "We're not Solbiatese. Nine changes is way too many, the coach made a mistake", were some of Galliani's words.

This should be fun.

Posted by: William405 Aug 10 2012, 02:36 AM

Galliani should shut the hell up cause we can't afford sacking Allegri. It's just a friendly, and I believe Allegri was trying to get the maxium in terms of testing players against some real opposition.Yes,it backfired..but after all it is a friendly.I understand that Galliani has always Milan's image mind, but they should about how selling Thiago Silva, and Ibra made us look as well.

Galliani: “Allegri made a mistake, I’m pissed!”

QUOTE
ADRIANO GALLIANI was reportedly angry with Allegri, saying Max simply blew it against Real Madrid.

The Real Madrid game was not just a meaningless pre-season game for Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani it appears as the chief executive was reportedly very angry after losing to Jose Mourinho’s side.

Milan were beaten badly on the pitch of the packed-Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday. Milan held on in the first half (1-1) despite being objectively the weaker team but conceded 4 goals in the 2nd half.

“Can you believe that? Nine changes, nine! The coach (Massimiliano Allegri) had made a serious mistake and I’m going to tell him that,” Adriano Galliani is quoted as saying to reporters after the match on today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport. “When you play against Real Madrid, you shouldn’t be thinking that way.

“We are in New York, in front of 60,000 people, full stadium; all eyes are on the game, millions of eyes on the TV. It’s not a friendly game against Solbiatese.” Other sources, including il Corriere dello Sport report reports what Galliani said is that “Milan are not Solbiatese.” He continued: “Mourinho made 9 changes? Have you seen Real’s bench? Kaka, Higuain, Xabi Alonso, Ramos, Albiol, Arbeloa. World champions.

“Nine changes shouldn’t be made. It was a mistake. I’m pissed off – write that down!” Galliani also said according to il Corriere dello Sport: “It was a lack of respect towards the fans and the crowd in an important stadium against an opponent of prestige … I don’t give a damn if Real Madrid made eleven changes.”

Galliani is definitely furious with coach Massimiliano Allegri and this could lead to a few things – perhaps even on the market though it’s unlikely since funds continue to be very very limited for the Rossoneri.

QUOTE
Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has admitted that his teammates are nervous going into the new season off the back of a heavy pre-season defeat to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos hit five past the Rossoneri this week, much to the frustration of Massimiliano Allegri and Adriano Galliani and Ambrosini admits that it is taking its toll on the much-changed outfit.

“We are sad because it was a bad impression, so it is normal to be nervous after a defeat like that,” the veteran told Milannews.it upon the team’s return to Italy today.

“It must be said that we’ve also played a team much stronger than us. This season, teams like Real are not at the same level as Milan, we are aware that we are one or two steps below these big clubs.

“At present, however, it is important for us to find the right spirit that this team will then have all season.

“This team is aware that times have changed because we have lost so many important players. This pre-season has helped us capture a greater awareness of this.

“I don’t know what the club are planning next in the market but they are right to focus on create the right atmosphere.

“The season is long, the results on the field will tell if this team has managed to become more of a team. We really want to start the season.”

“Kaka? I hope he didn’t change his mind after what he saw [laughs]. Seriously, Ricardo would be welcome, he is a good player who could lend a hand, let’s see what happens.”

Lol this is too funny.

For once Allegri is not at fault. It's so rich coming from Galliani, what does he expect? We played a dismantled squad against Madrid superstar team, they make changes and guys like Kaka and Higuain come in, we make a change and Traore comes in rolleyes.gif

Posted by: arivanjj Aug 10 2012, 01:02 PM

he's clearly lost his mind. this is depressing.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Aug 10 2012, 01:40 PM

God...talk of the misinterpretation here.

Galliani is pissed because, there were a whole lot of fans there and media, and they had come in expecting a great spectacle. Instead he feels Max Allegri used it as a training ground exercise with multiple subs etc...when he feels they should instead have been trying to make a hard fight out of it.

Don't forget it was being marketed as a meeting of two high profile clubs (to rival Barca vs Man Utd also happening), and instead it turned out to be a walkover.

In the first half, they were the stronger side, but we were still holding our own. In the second half, we fell apart. Why? Obviously coz our second string is nowhere as good as Madrid's. I don't think all the subs were particularly necessary.

Perhaps Galliani even felt that Allegri was trying to 'show-up' obvious weaknesses in the team as a passive-aggresive protest.

Either way, now we know that we need to step up and that there is a definite gulf in class.

I was pissed at the result too, but tell me it's not easier to take a defeat like this in a pre-season friendly than in a CL quarter final. I think playing against one of the world's top 3 strongest teams with our crappy, crippled team was a mistake in the first place and Gllainai is at fault before anyone else. he better do his own business which was supposed to be adding a few good players to the team (I'm not gonna say "champions" even though that's what he said). and his angry interview isn't going to help the team in any way, it'll only put extra pressure on them and Allegri. another mistake from Baldy.

A friendly, in Italy I can understand.

This is a 60,000 packed stadium in NEW YORK. Definitely having US media coverage, lots of money but some place the football market has not been able to break.

And Real Madrid vs. AC Milan is never 'just a light' training match. That's why you face Olympia and all those other clubs, so Allegri can try out all the various tactics they want.

This is mostly to sell high-level European competition to the US audience and losing 5-1 does not do that.

I think we are worse off than Madrid, absolutely.

But we are NOT 5-1 worse, if you know what I mean.

Villa beat Inter 3-0 in a pre-season friendly, it happens and specifically it happens to Italian sides. It's generally a match fitness thing. EPL and La Liga start mid-August if I remember rightly, so they're reaching peak fitness weeks before Italian clubs.

Why should he blame Berlusconi? Galliani is the one who takes care over the wages, and the transfers. If he didn't give so many players such huge and long contracts that don't reflect their quality, he has only himself to blame that now he has little to spend.

Really disgust by Galliani's quote. I really do not get that guy. Allegri did right subbing players in.

Real has a world class side, from the starters down to their bench players. We don't even have half of the starting 11 that could be called world class FFS. We simply cannot compete with them.

5-1? Just about right

We could have, if we had proceeded to keep putting in our weaker players on.

NOBODY is denying that if 23 players of Madrid stacked up, the 23 players of Milan are 3 levels below.

But the first XI is still IMO only about 30% worse than theirs. Provided we play smart.

I don't think Galliani would have been pissed about a 2-1 or a 3-1 defeat. 5-1 was a mite too much.

But its' not the end of the world, and it would be stupid to blame Max.

We just need to move on, and work on the transfer market. Scudetto challenge is paramount otherwise we risk undoing all we've done.

It's not the scoreline Galliani is pissed off, it's the attitude from the coach. sleep.gif Agree with your bit about that this was no ordinary 'friendly' match. No offense intended, but labeling it as inconsequential is pretty laughable - just ask the fans around the world who wait years and years, and then travel and spend money to watch the show.

And like I said, this kind of a showing does not reflect good on us. Neither the 5-1 drubbing, nor the 9 subs that were made, or Cassano's walk in the park attitude, it just gives the wrong message to our sponsors. sad.gif They'll just decrease the amount they pay us next time, or cut off ties altogether. Guys like Cassano, if they get out of control during a season, can bring down the house. sleep.gif There have been many such prima donnas in clubs over the years - the big ones had backup, while the smaller ones usually dispose off them the first chance they get. I really hope he boards the right train before the season starts, Cassano.

He's always been a peripatetic (wandering from club to club, without definition or purpose), but now he's turning out into a major liability, one that will become hard to manage and could have a negative effect on our season.

Agreed, but in his own right he has not done badly for us so far, and his request for an improved contract could very well be his last chance on the same. So although I dont find a single flaw in your post, I just cant shake off the notion that he is looking over his personal interests as is Milan. Who knows, maybe a 1M or 0.5M increase could make the difference and turn Cassano's motivation indicators to an all time high? Afterall all, most forwards reach their prime in his age bracket. However, if he expects us to tamper with the wage-cap to satisfy him, then he can go **** himself.

This might be the most unpopular opinion on the forum but I think Galliani is absolutely right.

$h!tlegri simply does not understand how to coach a BIG CLUB

^Granted, the term "big club" should no longer be used in the same sentence as us given the woeful quality of our squad.

The GAPING HOLES (no homo) are there for all to see and everyone and their dog knows that we need a CDM who can pass, a LB (been missing since Maldini/Serginho), and either a competent RB or a technically sound CM/CAM who can assist with supply to the forwards.

BUT to go to the f**king USA and lose by such a margin in front of an international fanbase is completely unacceptable. I laugh hysterically at anyone who thinks this defeat could have been worse dry.gif

q: How many cr@p clubs has Milan, Barca, Real etc played and failed to defeat them?
a: a LOT!!

q: How did the cr@p clubs do it?
a: Lots of defending + sticking to good tactics

$h!tlegri is responsible for the bold part and it's clear that they weren't right....subbing in our fodder to get burnt in the fire of Real's attack (further) exposes our weakness and until Milan find some way of getting back on our feet this does not help our situation....it hurts....a LOT!

If you were a player thinking of coming to a big club and saw Milan get utterly thrashed by Real....would you feel to come? $h!tlegri is just making Galliani's job harder. It becomes a vicious cycle.

It's like you're going through real tough economic times, but you're on your way to a business conference to try getting some investors, but your wife wears her oldest most dingy dress, your kids keep stuffing the refreshments in their pockets and your dog walks in and inhales deeply so everyone can see his ribs dry.gif Sure the situation might not be ideal at home and much of it might be your fault but they're definitely not helping the situation.

Please understand that I don't think:

1) We're fine as we are (not even Galliani thinks that)
2) We're anywhere near Real's level
3) We're not in for a world of disappointment

I personally am against it, he should earn the extra 1 million or 0.5 million. unsure.gif Show his worth this season and earn a new extension with a higher wage, how hard is that. For me, Milan giving up now would just stroke his ego to no ends, but if you believe it's worth a try, then I can understand that. I won't be against it.

In the end, the management will decide what's best. What if after earning a new extension we are treated to the same old, same old by Cassano. Bad boy that he is, he (and his agent) knows that he is practically the biggest fish in the pond. Even though he's not the face of the club - Pato is - the guy knows he can out-muscle the management.

Like I said, the best bet would have been both parties agreeing to a wage increase at the end of the season, depending on Cassano's performance output. smile.gif This coming from him now, is practically blackmailing. It's not that he's got a long contract, pull in the numbers in the next few months and earn the right to an upgraded extension.

In my opinion,we were playing downright pathetic first half.It doesn't matter how many goals we conceeded. In the first we couldn't maintain posession for more than 10seconds.Yes,we hooked up for one goal...maybe the subs did contributed to the goals conceeded. But,I think we did almost equally bad both halves, with madrid pulling the plugs in the second.

We lost a lot of weight in our midfield, and a lot of experience to top it off. Our ball retention in the first half put me straight back to sleep. Seedorf was definitely missed from what I saw. What did you expect from a Flamini-Ambrosini-Nocerino midfield? Constant and/or Emanuelson should have played instead, but Allegri went for his usual "all muscle, no brains" midfield. It just goes to show you how desperately we need a new playmaker.

Well I think, as Jack Sparrow mentioned we are INDEED a few levels below Real Madrid....but not 5-1 below.

Our Subs are...for sure and if you want to HIGHLIGHT the problems we all know we have, to the WORLD then playing our subs vs even Real's bench is the way to go. It is this Galliani was upset about imho....not the loss per se.

Again as I mentioned, I know our squad is inferior but even cr@p squads don't always get a 5-1 trouncing simply by using PROPER TACTICS which is $h!tlegri's department. As in Europe's elite, top 8 or top 10 stuff. smile.gif If I was Adidas or Emirates, and had the option of choosing between say Milan and PSG, I'd be more inclined to choose the French club, if I see Milan's market reach tanking.

That's exactly what was reported in the media after the sale of Ibra and Silva, with our sponsors voicing their concerns. At this rate we'll either have to make do with lower sponsor revenue, or going with smaller ones. Just like our relatively early exits in CL last few seasons hurt us a bit.

The sponsors usually have various clauses that promise higher revenue deals in case of a club progressing further, or getting more success. And vice versa for lower deals in case of early exists, or lower position in the league.

I could easily say the reverse is true for you. When $h!tlegri was squandering the little talent that we did have....undervaluing Ronaldinho and P!rlo....nobody complained. It was always the player's fault.

Now all of Gattuso, Ronaldinho, Taiwo, Nesta, Pirlo and Ronaldinho admitted to having difficulties with him I'm not hearing your outrage. I'm pretty sure we could have done with even a morbidly obese or utterly nonchalant P!rlo last season.

About the Ch3l$ki win.... grinding out the 1-0's, getting the 0-0's or just barely losing 0-1, 0-2 is what he's SUPPOSED to be doing. Tiny clubs do all the time, you don't see their coaches grabbing the headlines dry.gif

But my only point is that Galliani was RIGHT to be p!$$ed at him for (further) sabotaging the result via his n00b decisions. Again, drawing back to my analogy, if your wife isn't the best dressed at a party cause you're broke that's one thing...but if she stuffs beef pies in her bra for the kids DISPLAYING the fact that you're broke then that's only going to make your family look bad. We all know we're broke and at our weakest in quite a while....doesn't mean that you have to display it in the US where you're looking for more supporters

A mediocre line-up?

Who was missing from what should be our starting 11 next season?

Monto, Mexes and Pato?

Mexes, Zapata, new midfield signing, Montolivo and Pato. wink.gif

Who would that be? Traore 2.0?

I watched the highlights and they bombarded us in both halves

Acerbi is just a terrible defender imo, what was Galliani thinking when he got him I'll never understand. So slow and with no positional sense

I hate him...maybe it's just the mole laugh.gif
But seriously I hate him sleep.gif I'd take Maldini out of retirement or Nesta on a free from Montreal (with option to buy) over him....

The thing is...sometimes you DO find gold in the dirt* but it goes without saying that you're safer buying it in the jewellery store

* See unknown, not sought after players (Acerbi, Muntari, Traore, Mesbah) from $h!t clubs (Chievo, Inter laugh.gif , Nancy story, Lecce)

I'm pretty sure Kaka is not coming

I think this entire ordeal is a smoke screen to give fans hope of a decent signing but Galliani will most likely make a swoop similar to the Zapata one while all everyone is thinking and talking about is Kaka

laugh.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif Nice!

The thing about Acerbi is that at that height and build, one has to be really special to be good. dry.gif Rarely do you see players that are a few inches over 6-feet be fleet-footed with fast-reflexes. And that's specially damning for a defender. Instead of being a step ahead, you start with two step behind.

I'd have taken Astori over him a thousand times over. sad.gif Still, I'm not the type to completely write off a player without seeing him don our shirt for an extended period of time. But as of right now, the guy does nothing to inspire confidence at all that he'll come out good. Acerbi isn't helping his cast one bit in these exhibition matches.

"We are sad because it gave a bad impression of us, so it is normal to feel nervous after a defeat like that,"

"We are aware that we're a couple of steps behind these big clubs. At the moment, it's important for us to find the right spirit that the team will have all season."

"I don't know what the club are planning next in the market, but they are right to focus on creating the right atmosphere.

@ Zed...it seems that Ambro agrees with Galliani...
i.e.
we know we're crap. Don't make us look even worse

To the best of us, like I also said. biggrin.gif I know a few of other languages (Asian and regional), and since most of them are script based, typos are pretty much non-existent there. European language syntax being modular in nature, leaves much room for errors and typos. And they are good fun when they happen, sometimes hilarious even.
