I had to do a search for that.

*Kazdoodle (Chelsea fan)
*Calcio (From Sunderland)
*acTaylor (Made 20-odd posts and disappeared)
*THFC6061 (Spurs fan, with a very interesting personal site)
*11 ~ TAHVA (OMG A GIRL!)

Nobody that joined after Jan 1st 2011 made more than 10 posts other than the above (not counting bots).

Yeah, not many options to choose from. It might be a good idea to make it from 2010.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Jan 18 2012, 08:15 PM

Good idea, especially since we didn't do one during 2010 anyway. Edited.

Aww, thanks man! laugh.gif I never forget to take my vitamins daily. Though confidentially, the darkness in me wants to have a bit of a forum fight (if only once) to see how cuber-bullying feels like. Not sure I can get myself to quarrel though. Virtual or real life.

How I wish he was. As good as they made them. king.gif India hasn't produced anyone better than Gandhi.

1. Best Poster: X-off. I tend to agree with his analysis and he defends his position until Fillipo yells at him to stop haha

2. Best Moderator: Han

3. Best Newcomer: Since it's '10 I'm eligible! Can I vote for myself tongue.gif ? Seriously though, William is pretty cool

4. Funniest Poster: JackSparrow. What can I say, I'm a sucker for rum.

5. Nicest Poster: acid. Maybe even too nice haha. Only poster that would write a couple paragraphs to apologize for maybe potentially almost hurting someones feelings.

6. Most Calm Poster: Fillipo. Maybe it's just his avatar with Cesare but I sometimes feel like he is the dad on the board who sends posters to time out when they argue for 3 pages straight but in a very calm way.

7. Most Critical Poster: Dru. I think Ibra and Allegri would have to solve the Euro debt crisis, cure cancer, heal lepers, and walk on water, all while saving a kitten stuck in a tree for him to give them any credit or stop using derogatory names when he refers to them.

8. Most Helpful Member: acid. Again, super nice and always thorough.

9. Best Avatar & Signature: William. Love me some BoaJackson

10. Most Dedicated Defender of his Idol(s): Zed. Honarable mention to Dru who still brings up Ronaldinho haha

11. Your Favorite Poster: Lots of choices here but I'll go with Bluesummers. Always on the spot with transfer news which is nice since I can't read Italian, Spanish, French, or German.

12. Best 'MilanFan' Sub-forum (News, Matches, Transfers, etc.): Matches. You guys are a life savers when there are matches during the week. They land midday for me in the states and I always have to work. I always sneak a couple looks at the forum to see if the sky is falling down.

Posted by: il_diavolo_mtl Jan 20 2012, 07:09 AM

First off, i'm offended the "best avatar" category was taken down, as IIRC, I came second... tongue.gif

That being said

Categories for votes:

1. Best Poster: Soooo many to chose from, i'd feel awful to single one of you guys out.... but since i've came onto the forum, i've found myself agreeing with alot of han's progressive arguments. We had some swell times voicing..eh typing out our displeasure at the odies for a few years now tongue.gif

2. Best Moderator: Milan Are Brilliant ( always there to BotSlay when it gets crowded smile.gif )

3. Best Newcomer (Must have joined during 2010 or 2011): There are just as many mentions here. Calcio, THFC6061 but i'll go Danny, who has unknowingly taught me 90% of what i know about the SPL...

4. Funniest Poster: Dru ... and he doesn't even know it tongue.gif

5. Nicest Poster: Fillipo (by far the most cool-headed poster who as mentioned earlier, takes on a paternal, calming role when the aftermath of a loss seems too emotionally insurmountable and people lose it). Nevertheless, the occasional passive aggressive false equivalency comments never do bore me tongue.gif

6. Most Calm Poster: Mike although he seemingly goes missing for long periods sad.gif

7. Most Critical Poster: X-off, arguably the most opinionated on the boards, i find it great that you also follow Serie A quite closely and I can always count on your opinion for any serie A based player.

8. Most Helpful Member: Kurt : before my signature picture went the way of the dodo, he helped me try and make sense of it, in what must have been, a frustrating exchange with a forum-noob as myself... Also a good reference for all things EPL.

9. Best Avatar & Signature: William I love me some Boa tongue.gif

10. Most Dedicated Defender of his Idol(s):Zed for sure smile.gif

11. Your Favorite Poster: Kurt, knowledgeable, pragmatic and intellectually sincere. I wish he was a tad more approving of the duck, but that's why we need Zed tongue.gif

12. Best 'MilanFan' Sub-forum (News, Matches, Transfers, etc.): The transfer thread isn't what it was when Blue, D'Arc, X-off, for a brief moment Dzeko ( laugh.gif ) and myself were posting all the rumors with good speed, but it has been better as of late. Matches will always be my favorite, as most games are around 3pm on this side of the Atlantic and i can already count on play by play from a ACM fan's perspective.

1. Best Poster: X-Offender The brightest sun is the purest gun. Enough said!

2. Best Moderator: Milan Are Brilliant cool.gif Was there any doubt? Does more work than all other mods combined. And then doubled. Hundred times over.

3. Best Newcomer (Must have joined during 2010 or 2011): There can be only one: William405 king.gif While we've had a good few guys that signed up (and then disappeared) during these two years, no ones comes close. Darn great person too, and I say this not just based on the little gaming session we had a few months back. I'd be proud to call this guy friend if he lived in my block.

4. Funniest Poster: Drucurl unsure.gif Hidden deep within his swearing posts, is pure comedy. Now, only if he takes more care respecting other member's opinion, it would be a winning combination.

5. Nicest Poster: Bluesummers droolsmiley.gif One or two of his predictions went south these last couple of years, but they don't make them nicer than this dozer. Should. Post. More. Often.

6. Most Calm Poster: Fillipo Simone innocent.gif Even if we got hit with a "Intraplate Earthquake" (look it up), you can bet the farmhouse this guy is going to keep his cool hat on. Very classy chap, too.

7. Most Critical Poster: Kurtsimonw. huh.gif Few do it better than X-Off, and none better than Kurt. And I mean this in a good way, the man knows how to critique things, and his analysis is always a good read. Though deep down Fillipo seems to have evolved a bit, and grown a few new ideas. Two years back he was as right-wing as they came. Now he's much, much more balanced.

8. Most Helpful Member: TriniKing_CE devil.gif Yes, Han helps a tons when it comes to opening match threads (plus takes a few for the grammatically incorrect), but Trini is always there to post random stuff, videos, and whatnot. And not just related to football.

9. Best Avatar & Signature: Jack Sparrow 96.gif Ah, a few good choices here, X-Off has great ones, and Ash has the best designed ones, but for sheer coolness, I'd trust a pirate this time! Just don't let me down Cap'n.

10. Most Dedicated Defender of his Idol(s): Han2503 sleepysmiley03.gif Normally, Zed.D (previously known as ZD) would be a shoe-in here for him defending Pato, but lately he seems to have notched it down a bit. Probably due to the constant injuries. He's even ready to see Pato leave for another club. Not Han, though. What's a duck got to fear when he has Han (and Fillipo) on his back.

11. Your Favorite Poster: Danny happy.gif I was half inclined to go with Vnata or good ol' Blue, but the resident Scotsman takes the cake. His taste and mine are so similar it's almost scary. Probably got to do a lot with age, though I'm still a few years short of 30.

12. Best 'MilanFan' Sub-forum (News, Matches, Transfers, etc.): Off Topic is where the life is! Match threads and transfer speculations come in distant second. Ultimate Movies and Game threads, anyone?!

Considering that I've got the most ties (3 actually, though at homes I've got around 50 of them), I'd say be my guest. Having said that not sure why a lot of members forgot to vote in the first place. huh.gif unsure.gif The 2010 edition of the awards had a bigger voter turnout, if I recall correctly.

Aye. sad.gif Seeing that I was a lurker back in 2006, I can attest to this fact. The fact that there were fewer Milan forums, and blogs those days, also helped a bit. Heck, we haven't even topped the "Most users ever online was 344 on Jun 28 2007, 10:39 PM". I do have a dream, seeing this record broken!

Posted by: X-Offender Feb 17 2012, 01:54 PM

Whatever happened on 28 June 2007?

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Feb 17 2012, 01:57 PM

Mike must have put some dodgy pictures up.

Posted by: kurtsimonw Feb 21 2012, 02:47 PM

Seems a weird date indeed. In the summer so there's no Milan games and it wasn't even a Euro/WC year!

Posted by: acid911 Feb 21 2012, 03:08 PM

Agreed. smile.gif I'd think this place would have a hard time topping 200 users any given time, seeing how this forum rolls. Only logical reason I'd imagine this would have happened is maybe the forum got featured on a really popular website, sports site, or AC Milan blog, etc. And a lot of members signed up.

We did win the 2007 CL a few weeks earlier, so. But it's still is one big mystery! tongue.gif Unsolvable one, at that.

Posted by: d'Arc.LP Feb 21 2012, 03:14 PM

It doesn't have to be something special. Probably 60-70% of those members were bots.

Posted by: acid911 Feb 21 2012, 03:22 PM

Could very well be. smile.gif But that's one big whooper bot attack, if anything!

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Feb 21 2012, 04:38 PM

200? I barely see it topping 20 legitimate users.

Posted by: acid911 Feb 21 2012, 04:51 PM

Yeah well there are guests who lurk around, I am sure. biggrin.gif Even now there are 69 guests, 6 members, 0 anonymous members. In my opinion we should be trading links and banners with other Milan forums and blogs, as well as general Seria A and football boards if we want to bring in more members.

Then again, quite a few would like to keep it this way, a core group, but more quality members are always nice!

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Feb 21 2012, 04:53 PM

We used to, the older mods and Mike obviously, with SEO and the such. Though, to be honest there isn't much advertising/getting MF out there that goes on for the site these days, it just ticks along sad.gif

Posted by: d'Arc.LP Feb 21 2012, 07:18 PM

People don't have much time for discussing boards these days. If you want lot's of visitors you should switch to portal/blog based news websites. I'm pretty sure that Mike knows what he wants with the website but if I'd suggest somthing, it would be to switch to a wordpress engine website but still leaving this forum as a place for deep discussions and analysis.
Wordpress is not a platform that requires money 'cos it's free and as a webdesigner and webdeveloper I'd be glad to help with it if he needs help. But again, it's not that he's going to read this post, so whatever.

Posted by: X-Offender Feb 21 2012, 07:21 PM

I like this place as it is. I hate crowded forums. Too many posts to read, and I'm not one who a great attention span.

Posted by: d'Arc.LP Feb 21 2012, 07:28 PM

The forum would be basically the same, but the first page would be like a portal. I'd suggested that 'cos I like this domain a lot and with proper SEO work, it could be very popular.

Posted by: acid911 Feb 21 2012, 07:35 PM

This is how it was when it started. smile.gif The forum was separate, and the website front-end was a CMS with the latest news, match reports and all that. Then work got started on Milanfan v2, which meant the forum took over. Let's see how it all goes, though I agree, with the $16,000 domain name, this place could be quite popular.

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Feb 21 2012, 10:10 PM

Yep, we had CuteNews on the front-end for news articles, WP wasn't that big back then.

WP would be the obvious choice, it's what I use for my site and does pretty much exactly what you're suggesting with user-generated articles etc.

Mike used to do a ton of SEO on here, if I remember rightly we were the first or second result for 'ac milan' on msn search (a few years back) and on the first page of Google for the term. Now, god knows, but yeah we did well back then.

Though in all honesty it doesn't matter if you have a portal or not, I can think of a ton of websites that are forum based that have massive, and I mean massive communities. It's just about getting the site out there in all honesty, that's the biggest thing.

Plus with article portals etc it would have to be your own work, which trust me from experience takes a lot of effort to keep continuously updated. There's no point having duplicate articles that can be found elsewhere, that doesn't help SEO at all.

Ah yes, CuteNews. biggrin.gif Worked with that platform a few times back in the days. Now it's either Wordpress or Joomla, it's amazing really how far the smaller guys get left behind.

True enough. smile.gif While I can see why people wouldn't want a massive influx of new members, I still wouldn't mind a few good men (and women) singing up and becoming regular posters. In fact, I'd love it, love it, love it!

Drupal too! Though yes, about as simple as they come, it only fed the news, think the rest of the site was just hand-coded, not like these days where the CMS' do everything and you have millions of plug-ins at your disposal!

Yeah, of course I'd like that too. Just saying that without proper work just chucking a portal on the site would not generate a mass influx of people to the boards.

Posted by: acid911 Feb 21 2012, 10:35 PM

Agreed. laugh.gif By the way, just noticed: 8,888 posts. tongue.gif I'd have a hard time counting them!

I suspect 334 of those users were bots or guests.

Posted by: Milan Are Brilliant Feb 24 2012, 04:52 PM

To be honest back then we had a ton more people use the site, not 300+ more many but it's not like it is now.

Yeah, but I think what Danny meant was another AC Milan fan forum, or message board. biggrin.gif There are quite a few communities around, some more famous than others. Plus, there were quite a few brilliant general football forums too, one of which that unfortunately went down due to a lack of funds.

That place was massive, with fans from a lot of clubs, uploading match highlights and other stuff.

That's probably why it went down.

Yeah, another Milan board. Devilsmania. Was on it for years until one guy started picking on my every post and implying I was a Nerrazzuri. Wouldn't let it go. Reported him to admin who were sympathetic and didn't want to lose me, but he continued his vendetta and in the end I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and decided to find a new home.

And I have to say this is a much better forum - more active, and a lot of good guys on here. I mean, MF has its moments, don't get me wrong, but overall it's a good community.

Even if Mike REALLY NEEDS TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS biggrin.gif

Could very well be. unsure.gif Though, the board administrators said they were having problem footing the bill for hosting and all the other expenses. But it was so big, they could definitely have sold it if they wanted. If I recall, there certainly were a few offers from people who wanted to buy that forum.

The thing about that one was that there were fans from at least 100+ clubs there, and each member had an image tag below their username displaying whatever club they supported. That made for some fun discussions. Think of it was a more elaborate and classy Goal.com tongue.gif I am sure I have the URL saved with me in my old hard disk.

Ah, Devilsmania. devilsmiley.gif Used to lurk around it and a few other boards back a few years. Now, with the advent of blogging software, a lot of new communities are blog-based, instead of forum-based. The thing with too many members is that usually there is a dip in quality, pretty much guaranteed.

Word. smile.gif There's nothing like it. Almost feels like home.

laugh.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif You've said it 20 times already. Another 80 and Mike will listen, I am sure!
