Serie A 2006/2007 - Day 34

Torino v Milan

Saturday, 28th of April, 2007

Time: 17:00 (UK), 18:00 (IT)

Next match. Trip to Torino.

Again ... Too fast tongue.gif

I think Milan will play with a similar line up to the one agaisnt Cagliari .. And with Ronni on form, there is no need to worry devil.gif

Posted by: dst Apr 21 2007, 10:15 PM

Just don't concede this time! I know Ronie will score... everyone knows it!

We have played all season long with the back-up CBs. I blame Carlo for they seem to have learned nothing! This is sad...

Anyway... Torino is on Calgiari's level. Forza Milan! smile.gif

Posted by: han2503 Apr 21 2007, 11:32 PM

I'm glad we have easy fixtures this season around such an important time of the year for us, last season we where stuck having to play Inter and the hench men of Messina before both legs against Barca, and to top it off Barca didn't even play the weekend before out second leg because of heavy rain.

So at least this season somethings are atleast working in our favour.

I would put out the team that played today against Torino, maybe even resting Seedorf and putting in Sergio if he is fit.

Posted by: arivanjj Apr 22 2007, 03:53 AM

should be another entertaining match from Ronaldo! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Darunia Apr 24 2007, 11:13 PM

I'd go with this lineup:

Dida/Kalac

Cafu - Simic - Bonera - Favalli

Brocchi - Pirlo - Gourcuff

Seedorf

R. Oliveira - Ronaldo

bring Ambro on in the second half for Pirlo/Seedorf, and let Serginho get some minutes in.

Posted by: dst Apr 24 2007, 11:18 PM

Dida
Oddo-Bonera-Nesta-Favalli
Cafu-Brocchi-Gourcuff-Serginho
Ronaldo-Oliveira

... for me. It should be enough, if not I just don't care! But I think Ronaldo will get the job done! king.gif

Posted by: Rossoneri7 Apr 24 2007, 11:36 PM

Right there with ya ... I think Nesta and Dida need to play this game in order to get the flow of the next game.

Nope Dida, I am hoping Maldini gets fit, cuz Bonera isn't ready to play in the CL semis, unless Maldini doesn't, in which case we are fu cked, royally

I think Bonera can handle it. So can Gourcuff. But they are not at the same level of-in order- Maldini and Seedorf. So if Gattuso makes it and Maldini doesn't, then it won't be the end of the world. But I'm just praying to God that Kaladze stays as far away from that game as possible.

Posted by: Darunia Apr 25 2007, 02:28 AM

After Kaladze's performance last weekend, I don't think even Carlo is stupid enough to start him against Man U.

i agree with this line-up, i think dida should rest too, he worked hard last night and i'm not sure if he was 100%.

we should also bring on Pippo for Roni early in the second-half to see how he links up with Oli.

Torino - Milan -- http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sa0607/tor-mil.html

Milan face a tricky away trip as they take on Torino at the Stadio Olimpico in Week 34. The Rossoneri will almost certainly be focused on the return leg against Manchester United after going down 3-2 at Old Trafford, and Toro may take advantage of this. The Granata are still involved in the relegation battle.

Milan have been enjoying a good run recently, winning their last four. Last week’s 3-1 victory over Cagliari has reinforced their position. They are now in fourth place and likely to qualify for Champions League, even if they don’t qualify anyway by winning the trophy. With 56 points they are just one behind Lazio and six ahead of Empoli.

Toro are in serious trouble at the moment. After losing three in a row and drawing 0-0 against Empoli, the Granata cannot afford to drop anymore points. They are seventh from bottom, but only two points off the relegation zone. Chievo, Parma, Reggina and Catania are all pushing from behind and the Granata are feeling the pressure.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti will be looking forward to the Champions League semi-final, so many of the regulars will be rested. Marco Storari may take the gloves, while Marcos Cafu and Giuseppe Favalli should cover right and left-back respectively. Kakha Kaladze is suspended, so Dario Simic will step in. French starlet Yoann Gourcuff will get another chance starting from the first minute. Clarence Seedorf will play as a trequartista behind the Brazilian attacking duo of Ricardo Oliveira and Ronaldo.

Toro boss Gianni De Biasi is likely to stick with the 4-4-1-1 formation which seemed to work against Empoli. In defence Ivan Franceschini and Gabriele Cioffi are in competition for a place next to Oscar Brevi. After his debut last week, Francesco Coco should retain his place in the starting XI. Simone Barone is suspended, while Andrea Ardito will return to the midfield after a ban.

Nikola Lazetic will play on the right flank. The main problem for De Biasi is in attack where Elvis Abbruscato, Roberto Stellone and Roberto Muzzi have all failed to impress so far this season. Torino have, with 25 goals, the worst attack in Serie A at the moment. So De Biasi will move Toro’s best scorer Alessandro Rosina forward and have faith in Stellone to find the net.

Man on fire: Ronaldo (Milan) – Since his arrival in January, ‘Il Fenomeno’ has scored seven goals to fire Milan up the table.

Form guide: Torino (L W W D L) Milan (D W W W W)

Last season: Not played

Torino (probable): Abbiati; Comotto, Franceschini, Brevi, Balestri; Lazetic, De Ascentis, Ardito, Coco; Rosina; Stellone

Milan (probable): Storari; Cafu, Bonera, Simic, Favalli; Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gourcuff; Seedorf; Oliveira, Ronaldo

Posted by: han2503 Apr 25 2007, 07:45 PM

My team:

Oddo--Nesta--Bonera--Favalli
Cafu--Gourcuff--Brocchi--Sergio
-----------Gila--Ronaldo----------

Basically the same one as dst but with Gila, I don't want Gila to play in the CL and he is clearly the best at playing off of Ronaldo, they work really well with eachother.

Nesta should play again, he was lloking really tired yesterday, so he should play again in this one to help him with his match fitness, maybe taking him off at some point could be a good idea.

Sergio should definately play, we might need him against Man U and we really need to get him up to speed and fast.

I don't want to see Seedorf playing again in this one. I wouldn't even call him, Kaka and Pirlo up for this one. I don't care if we lose this one, we've got a healthy enough lead over Empoli to blow this game off, which I'm sure we won't despite not having those guys around because of Ronaldo.

i was thinking that for a game like this perhaps it would be a good time to try a different formation maybe a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 i dunno perhaps a bad idea just thinking out aloud to be honest don't know what others think??

I think 4-4-2 would be best to try to rest as many players as we can

@mishie: (Un)fortunately we have the advantage of being able to rest Kaka, Pirlo and the others and I can absolutely not see any reason why he should use them!

I wouldn't mind us loosing this tie, though I predeict a win. Even if we loose, we still have a 6 point cushion from 5th place ... The key I think is to rest our players for a crucial match on Wednesday

Serie A Preview: Torino - Milan

AC Milan make the less than one hundred miles trek westward to Torino this Saturday.

When: Saturday April 28, 18:00 (CET)

Where: Stadio Olimpico, Torino, Italy

This Saturday in Torino, two teams with very different agendas go mano a mano.  On one hand, you have Torino, who find themselves dangerously close to the relegation places.

Torino, the second side in Turin (as Juventus are undoubtedly more popular), are playing their worst football of the season, and things are not looking good for them to secure safety from the drop.

They have the absolute worst attack in all of Serie A, and that will most likely not change any time soon.  None of their strikers have been able to find consistency at all this season, with midfielder Alessandro Rosina being the only man in the squad with more than four goals to his name.

Really, the only thing they do have going for them is their defensive record.  They are able to limit other teams’ offensive output, having not given away more than two goals since the 5-1 thrashing they received in Florence against Fiorentina in early March.

Now, on the other side of the ball, stands Milan.  The Rossoneri have steadily climbed up the Serie A table since the midseason acquisition of Ronaldo, and must feel confident of having pretty much secured their status for next season’s Champions League (CL), which was their goal all along.  They are six and seven points clear of Empoli and Palermo, who have both struggled in the latter part of the campaign.

The side will have a bit of a different look than what fans are used to seeing, though.  With the do or die CL semifinal second leg on Wednesday against Manchester United, many of the major cogs will be rested.

CURRENT FORM

Torino (33 points, 14th place in Serie A)

Last three results

4/15 Torino 1-2 Atalanta

4/18 Siena 1-0 Torino

4/22 Empoli 0-0 Torino

Milan (56 points, 4th place in Serie A)

Last three results

4/15 Messina 1-3 Milan

4/18 Ascoli 2-5 Milan

4/21 Milan 3-1 Cagliari

TEAM NEWS

Torino have one injury concern of note, but it is a very significant one.  Defender Cesare Bovo is gone for the remainder of the season with a foot problem.

Milan are without Kakha Kaladze, who is suspended, while many other players will be rested in order for them to get a maximum performance on Wednesday.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Alessandro Rosina (Torino) – He will be fielded just behind the lone striker, which means he will be the key to Toro’s usually paltry attack.

Ronaldo (Milan) – With him being cup-tied and therefore not able to play in the CL, he is a certainty for this match.  He has been on fire lately, and could get even more goals in this fixture.

POSSIBLE STARTING XI’s

Torino (4-4-1-1): Abbiati; Comotto, Brevi, Franceschini, Balestri; Lazetic, De Ascentis, Ardito, Coco; Rosina; Stellone

Milan (4-3-1-2): Kalac; Cafu, Bonera, Simic, Favalli; Gourcuff, Brocchi, Ambrosini; Seedorf; Oliveira, Ronaldo

PREDICTION

Milan will not be quite as potent as they have been, but they won’t need many goals against the worst attack in Serie A.  I predict another good showing from Ronaldo, but don’t be surprised if Torino keep it close until the end.

Hmmmm the guy who made this on http://goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=290469 looks like he really hates Torino tongue.gif

Posted by: fresh_prince7 Apr 28 2007, 02:59 PM

Well I don't think anyone cares what result happens tonight, obviously hoping 3 points and maybe a ronaldo show for ari. tongue.gif

Seems like united have sealed the premiership by playing pretty much full strength team. So hopefully the legs will start to feel heavy during the 2nd leg.

Ronaldo double would be nice otherwise just a victory will do. Waiting for the world cup final to start, damn rain.

C'MON AUSSIE C'MON!!

A note on location in response to Porty's question above: the game's being played at the Olimpico in Turin (also known as the Communale). This is where Torino plays -- and where Juve are playing this year while Delle Alpe is closed/undergoing renovation.

Already? I thought they were still "thinking" on renovation.

I was watching some Juventus highlights and I thought "Damn, the Delle Alpi goals are not like that. And the space behind the goals is different but I thought "Maybe they changed that since they're in Serie B..."

But thanks for the explation. Now I see. smile.gif

Aussies 22/0 off 4.4 overs! Solid start!

26' A cracking drive from 25 yards from the Dutchman - but he was given far too much space and while it was a great swerving strike Abbiati may have been able to save it.

Great start. Hopefully repeats it midweek. devil.gif

FT 0-1. biggrin.gif Just like I predicted.

5th consecutive win in Serie A. Now we're 3rd with 2 points more than Lazio that plays tomorrow the Roman derby.

Dull game but 3 points and that's what matters the most, No one seemed like they wanted to run. Everyone was concerving energy so that was good.

It looked more like a training match really, playing 90 minutes of keep ball tongue.gif

The possession speaks for itself, we had something like 70% of it at one point in the game.

Posted by: jefri91 Apr 28 2007, 07:07 PM

lol a pass through the ref's legs and it almost went it tongue.gif

Lucky me, I get to watch the replay on FSC later this week.

That corner that led to Muzzi's miss was a near-exact replica of the scrum following Ronaldo's header. Dida and a Torino player go up for it, then Gila clobbers into him again. Dida was sitting on his keister, looking like he wanted to kill as the players were going upfield. smile.gif

Why is Gila being assigned to mark in that position?? This I cannot understand. Although when he flicked that ball onto Favalli it looked like it was going to go in if he hadn't cleared it.

But really we should put someone there who can mark better then Gila.

i dunno cuz he's strong in the air, most of our midfield cant mark in the box, besides ambro.
