"I wanted to go to America, but didn't get any big offers"

^^It's exactly what he says. As I said above, wanted America, no offers, had to settle for Canada. It's what jumped right out at me as soon as I read the thing.

Hmh, I didn't look at it that way. Might be. But I still don't find it disrespectful.

Don't blame him. If your made out of money, the states is where you want to be. Better quality of life than Canada forsure.

Lower taxes, more things to do and see .. etc etc.

I think he meant the MLS.

Has he played there yet?

Nah, the previous part of the quote mentioned MLS.

"I’ve been considering the MLS for years now. After I left Milan, I wanted to go to America, but I didn’t get any big offers."

I'd find that pretty insulting as a Montreal fan.

Oh Kurt, you just look into things really hard. So, what if he wanted to go to America first? There's nothing wrong about it. Everyone would prefer the US to Canada anyway.

Kurt, he said that after he got rejected by the American teams, and BEFORE he decided to try his luck in Canada. How is that insulting to them?

Really Kurt, you always try to find bad things that aren't there.

I prefer Canada to the US. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) America is far too busy for my taste, while Canada is calm and serene. In fact, if I had to choose between the two a 100 times over, I'd choose the Maple Country. I'm sure the USA is great at most other things, there's more to do, more to see, but that's just not me, I guess.

Visiting? Yeah, love to one day. Business? Pretty much USA. But living? Canada is by the better country for me.

Look into it? As I said, it's the first thing that struck me as soon as I read it.

And so what if people do prefer that? Would you like it if Milan signed someone and he said "I've always wanted to go to Italy. I was hoping for a move to Juve or Inter, but they didn't want me".

@Acid. My uncle has a place in New York - I've never been to a less busy area in my entire life. America is a huge country and even in the same state you have where he lives and the big City which are very different. Aside from the major cities, the US is mostly dead. Huge country, not many people.

Your example has really no correlation with Nesta's quote. His comment wasn't even close.

If player XY said: I've always wanted to play in Spain, but they didn't want me - and signed with a French club...no one would have made a big deal.

Montreal fans can be proud they've got the chance to see Nesta in action, it's the best football player in history who's ever played for that club, and I don't think any of them care about his comment.

How is that the same? He wanted to move to the MLS to an American team - instead he had to go to the MLS to a Canadian team because the American teams didn't want him. So no, it's not like what you said, it's more like what I said.

I do find it amusing though, that I make a comment and I'm "looking into it too much", then everyone else keeps going on about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Now that you put it this way, yes, I agree. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Big difference between the major cities and the smaller ones. But overall, life as a whole is shall we say in the faster lane, in the USA. More to do, more to take care of, more things to keep a tab on, and so on. That's why I prefer a quieter, smaller country, personally speaking, of course.

This much I agree, though, that not every place in USA is New York city. It just can't be.

Wow, people are making Canada seem like some 3rd world country (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

And maybe Nesta was thinking about it in geographical terms, Canada technically speaking is in America - the continent. He didn't mention the US specifically (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

And like acid said, people seem to generalise the US too much, it's either New York or California and nothing in between. Nesta could have easily ended up playing for the Utah or Pennsylvania teams (no idea what they call them or if they're even in the MLS, just making a point)

He wasn't talking about the Continent, because he said he wanted to go to American but none of the teams wanted him.
