AC Milan - Milanfan.com _ Other _ Suso

As Pippo will probably remember, I was a fairly heavy critic of Suso last season. His immaturity and selfishness wound me up and I considered him a poor man's Menez.

Pippo in fact agreed with this at one point, and it was frustrating because I knew how much talent the young Spaniard had.

Vincenzo Montella is the best thing to ever happen to Suso - with every passing game more and more of the selfishness and head down play is being eradicated and he looks up and adds creativity with fine assists to his game. Indeed, of the past 9 goals, he's scored or assisted 7 of them.

Montella has polished this rough gem and turned him into what is turning into a world-beating player. We got him for free, and over the past few months he's grown into our best attacking threat by a mile, putting his value into the £30M range easily.

I am so glad my fears have been eradicated. I saw him going the way of Taraabt - thankfully the right coach at the right time in his career has cultivated the best out of him and from nowhere Suso is alongside Romagnoli and Donnarumma as one of our absolute marquee players.

Couldn't agree more, and I was also one of his criticis up to just a few months ago, I thought he was too lightweight for Serie A and didn't have the pace and vision to counteract that, but he's proven me wrong.

I still think he needs more continuity, more chemistry with the team and prove he's consistent, but yes, he turned up very very good.

But why not discuss this in the Suso player thread?

Because I think the days of protocol and rule following on MF are a tad behind us! Also felt it merited its own thread anyway.

Thank God for Montella. Clearly has coached him brilliantly, ironing out the bugs in his game, getting rid of the bad habits, leaving only the talent and creativity.

It's astonishing how good he's become in the interim. Someone said a couple of months ago they awaited a Spanish call for him - I laughed that off as far too early, but the past month he's shown while he's not quite Iniesta (yet) he can nevertheless more than live with that quality and company.

You can tell whether a player has talent or not just by watching him play for some scraps of a game. I don't remember what game it was, but it was during Inzaghi's spell, Suso played some minutes, even hit the bar with a fantastic shot. I knew then that the guy possessed quality, just needed to be given time and faith.

Neither Pippo nor Mihajlovic gave him those things, easily brushed aside after one bad game. But thankfully his spell at Genoa and then Montella managed to give him the chance to prove himself.

I don't think he's a world-beating player, but he's a really good one that gives us a lot of quality and by far one of our best players.
