Clarence Seedorf was one of the stars of the Milan derby triumph and is out of contract in June. “I’ll stay if the club wants me to.”

The Dutchman turned 35 this week and played a key part in last night’s 3-0 victory over Inter.

“I have proved how much I care for Milan every day over the last nine years, but I will stay only if the club shows that it wants me to,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is mutual respect, so we will discuss the situation without problems.”

Seedorf’s contract expires on June 30 and he has been at the club since 2002, but could leave as a free agent in the summer.

He also looked back at last night’s derby success with an Alexandre Pato brace and Antonio Cassano penalty. Seedorf inherited the captain’s armband when Gennaro Gattuso went off injured.

“We have been living together for many years, so knowing the atmosphere I recognised the most important message: play as a team unit.

“In difficult times we must come together, unite and bring out our best qualities. I am always proud to wear the Number 10 jersey, even more so with the captain’s armband.

“We are a strong squad, have laid the foundations throughout the campaign and now it is time to reap the rewards. We rediscovered our confidence and self-belief going into the next important and difficult games.

“I think Inter have huge potential and we did well to limit them. Perhaps it was difficult for them to find the right motivation when coming off strong performances.”

Saves his displays for the big occasions - he'd be useful to hold onto for maybe another year for massive games. He was magnificent at White Hart Lane and was great last night.

He's useless in the encounters against diddy teams.
