This is a must win. Like every match ahead of us.

Good thing is that after this match the next game isn't until Saturday vs. Roma. Finally a week without a midweek game.

Very important information. Just enough time to heal all possible wounds and be prepared for Roma.

Boy, this match feels like decades away considering the important clash with Arsenal we have today. unsure.gif

Posted by: dst Mar 4 2008, 11:39 AM

We have to start winning again!! Fiorentina are greater than anyone expected.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Mar 4 2008, 12:47 PM

I kinda expected a Inter-Roma- Milan -Fio 1-2-3-4. It's Juve who've surprised me...didn't think their defence was worth a penny.

Posted by: Darunia Mar 4 2008, 10:59 PM

We have no excuses now. Our CL campaign is over. Time to get some wins in Serie A. Every game is a must-win now.

Kalac
Oddo Nesta Kaladze Jankulovski
Ambrosini Pirlo Gourcuff
Kaka
Pato Gilardino

Pirlo was terrible again against Arsenal, he needs to step up his game. Emerson will prob start in place of Gourcuff. Favalli for Janku if he isnt fit.

Posted by: Jack Sparrow Mar 5 2008, 07:44 AM

I just hate to be Empoli right now...seriously.. biggrin.gif In fact I'd hate to be any of our next 12 opponents right now.

When the team ended up losing, and the players stood their applauding...I somehow got that...I don't know if anyone has seen the movie Tombstone with Kurt Russel and Val Kilmer...but there's a line tha goes...'You tell them I'm coming and hell's coming with me!'

Let's forget about CL exit... I say we will win 2-0. Pato to score his sixth cool.gif

Posted by: aLbErTo Mar 5 2008, 10:18 AM

other result then win is not an option...

Posted by: Darunia Mar 5 2008, 04:06 PM

Carlo's job is on the line, if he hasn't already lost it. It's not all his fault, the squad is not nearly strong enough. We better win this, and win with a good performance

Controcampo is making early predictions about the lineup for this one:

Bonera and Favalli in defense, Gourcuff possibly in midfield. Attack of Kaka, Gila, and Pato. Nesta and Pippo probably on the bench. Gattuso will sit the game out due to yellow card accumulation.

Posted by: Portikins Mar 7 2008, 08:33 PM

With Dida, Ronaldo, Seedorf, Cafu, Serginho, Nesta and Jankulovski out + Gattuso suspended...

Gazzetta's prediction:

-------------Kalac--------------
Oddo-Bonera-Kaladze-Favalli
---Brocchi--Pirlo--Ambrosini--
--------------Kaka'-------------
---Gilardino--------Pato-------

It's way too defensive but I wouldn't be surprised if this was Carletto's choice.

Posted by: Tennie Mar 7 2008, 10:20 PM

I don't think Brocchi will start. He's been doing individual training all week, including today, according to the 'today's training' articles on acmilan.com.

I suspect Gourcuff will get the start instead of Brocchi.

The other thing of note in today's training was that Willy, Paloschi, and Offredi trained with the grownups. (Offredi is the Primavera keeper).

Gourcuff should be given as many chances as possible till the end of the season so that we can decide fairly if we want to keep him or not...

Billy has been doing his coach licensing course recently; that may be why we've not seen him on the bench.

A new site called 'milannews.it', which seems to be a division of tuttomercatoweb that's uniquely devoted to AC Milan, has announced a probable lineup and bench:

Kalac
Oddo Bonera Kaladze Favalli
Brocchi Pirlo Ambrosini
Kakà
Pato Gilardino

Bench
Fiori
Maldini
Simic
Gourcuff
Emerson
Paloschi

Dida has been mentioned as training separately a couple of times this week, but that's about it. These're the first mentions of him in training news for a while though.

Eek, nasty foul by Ambro there. And Milan's passing...really needs to get better than it has been so far.

Guys, I know it's a lousy game and the team is not playing at all well, but could you please all watch your language? The repetitive variations on the F word (among others) are getting to be a bit much.

Thanks.

Great assist by paloschi.

Kaka' and pato on those last two counters were way too indecisive. Got lucky with the pato one. Pato was very selfish tonight at times.

Posted by: Tennie Mar 9 2008, 04:54 PM

Now let's hope Genoa do us a favour tonight too and beat the Zebras.

Lucky win, but at this point - as others have said - I'll take the luck. I'm really liking Paloschi. He's doing very very well for a primavera player.

Posted by: Bluesummers Mar 9 2008, 04:54 PM

forget about patos selfishness guys. think of the real issue. Did you see when paloschi came on our team felt more lively. Gilardino is too much of a burden on this team, its like playing with a man down. He should gtfo or sit on the bench and shut his mouth. Paloschi should start for the rest of the season.

96.gif Gila has to go. he just CAN'T do it in Milan.

And Paloschi definitely deserves to be a starter ahead of Gila.

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Mar 9 2008, 06:52 PM

I think we need to loan Gourcuff and Gila away, they are clearly lacking in confidence at the moment and staying here isnt helping them

Loan Gila to Genoa or Sampdoria and Gourcuff to Empoli, Parma or Udinese

Boban (i think) went on loan to a lower club (cant remember name), got his confidence back and the rest is history

Posted by: redbabies Mar 9 2008, 06:59 PM

I didnt like the performance (well thats obvious) but TBH in these matches that are left (11) I dont care how we'll play, I just want to win at all costs.

Winning beautiful or ugly will be the same for me, three-points is what matters right now devil.gif

As for individual performance:

Kaka - even though wasn't at his best, he still decided the match king.gif

Pirlo and Oddo - both were awful, they need to rise their game or... or nothing coz they will still play, and thats sad we dont have anyone to sub them (especially Pirlo) sad.gif

Pato - he scored an easy goal (there aren't easy goals, someone might say) but I was happy for him coz it gives him confidence. Also its obvious he needs to rest sometimes coz thats too much for an 18yo to play in every match.

Favallinho and Gilardino - they were Empoli's best players rolleyes.gif

Yoan - I still believe in him, but he needs to have confidence and get some support from Carlo and team-mates.

Ambro - I cant critisis him, coz he saved our asses.

For the others, I dont have any special coment.

Ratings from Goal.com

AC Milan

Kalac – 6.0: Did not have too many saves to make as most of Empoli’s shots were off-target. Blameless on Busce’s goal.

Oddo – 6.0: A mixed afternoon for Oddo. His cross led to Pato’s goal, however he missed a tackle on Antonini in the build-up to Busce’s temporary equalizer.

Maldini - 6.0: Had a few nervy moments in the first half, but was very impressive after the break.

Kaladze – 6.5: Solid display from the Georgian. Was a reassuring presence at the heart of the Milan defence.

Favalli – 5.0: Was beaten by his man on one too many occasions down the left. The clear weak-point of the Milan team.

Ambrosini – 7.5: Battled well in the centre of midfield and the wet conditions in the second half seemed to suit him. Trademark header to give Milan the lead.

Pirlo – 5.5: One brilliant pass to put Gilardino through in the first half, however it is clear that Pirlo is not in good form at the moment.

Gourcuff – 4.5: Really poor. Gave the ball away repeatedly and was rightfully replaced at half time.

Kaka - 7.5: Struggled for long periods, however he created Milan’s second, scored the third, put a chance on a plate for Gilardino, and also presented Pato with a good opportunity.

Pato – 7.5: A constant bright spark all game. His decision-making is poor and he still needs to mature, this is true, however the Brazilian was involved in every attacking Milan move, scoring the first, and helping create Kaka’s clincher.

Gilardino - 5.0: Showed his lack of confidence by missing two great chances. Was anonymous for the remainder of the game. Really has to move on to another club at the end of the season if he wants to resurrect his career.

Subs: Bonera: 6.0, Brocchi: 5.5; Paloschi 6.0.

I think we'll play a good match in Rome next weekend, and dont think we'll loose.

As for matches agains Juve and Inter, I am still very confident and I believe we'll win both of them.

But, I'm more worried about matches Torino and Napoli... coz these are those kind of matches where we struggle.

But, from now on we'll have 1-week preperation for most of the matches and thats GOOD devil.gif

Boban was loaned to Bari. I agree about Yoann, I have been saying for a long time that it would be better for him to be loaned to another Italian team. About Gila, I just wish not to see him in Milan shirt after this season again.

Here are Datasport's player ratings:

Kalac 6
Bonera 6.5
Kaladze 6
Maldini 6
Favalli 5.5
Oddo 6
Brocchi 6
Kaka` 7.5
Gourcuff 6
Pirlo 6.5
Ambrosini 8
Gilardino 4
Pato 7.5
Paloschi s.v.

They rarely give ratings of 4. Seems like everyone agrees that Gila really sucked.

Posted by: Fillipo Simone Mar 9 2008, 07:34 PM

Yes, Boban went to Bari. But this guy is hardly Boban.

Gourcuff lacks of stability and he's not reliant. In one match he pulls up some brilliant passes and some really horrible. But 80% of his passes could be made with ease. But he usually seems to take the harder way.

Now, the normal Milan, 3-4 years ago, would pick a that youngster, shelter him and provide confidence. The '08 Milan is not up to that. I say - give Gourcuff as many chances as possible till end of season. If he leaves then, it will be his problem. To be frank, neither Milan nor Gourcuff demonstrated many good games.

E points, lucky result bla bla I agree with that... tongue.gif

Bad game from Milan. I don't get it, why don't we give them a bit more space and try to take advantage of Kaka's and Pato's amazing speed on the counter-attack? We simply cannot break down 8-men defensive walls so there's nothing else to do other than make them break it down themselves and hit them when they do... I know our game is based on posession but at times it would not be bad to try something different... we're so stuck tactics-wise...

I don't think loaning Gila out would be a good idea. We should either sell him or keep him. Fiorentina seems like the best place for Gourcuff.

Boban never lost his confidence. He was loand to Bari before he ever played for Milan cause there was no space for him in the squad.

Well yeah...coz with the ball, that supercomputer in his head, has to start churning out inane calculations relating to windspeed, angle of projection, trajectory, air friction, surface friction, kaka's estimated velocity, seedorf estimated un-velocity, proximity to opposing team defenders (in metres), how much time it would take for rino to come back from right mid-field to cover Andy's back(in seconds)...all in all it's a very complex equation...

There's ur thesis topic right there Pana.
