Which is exactly the reason why this Club world cup is so useless. |

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 29 2012, 05:36 PM) I thought Ozil was the only one to make things happen last night (I know you weren't just talking about last nights game though), but Podolski has been completely annonymous all tournement. Don't understand bringing Gomez off at half time though. Özil couldn't do anything. Only Khedira really tried, while everyone else fell into agony. QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Jun 29 2012, 05:37 PM) C'mon..surely not a complete failure. Semi finals is very good for what is still the youngest team in the tournament. It's a complete failure because we didn't achieve our goal, which was to finally win something after a streak of 16 years without any silverware. We weren't even close. Maybe this generation of German players is destined to become a Portugalesque "Golden generation" like Figo and Rui Costa. Schweinsteiger, Lahm and everyone else couldn't withstand the pressure of being favorites. |

QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Jun 29 2012, 01:47 AM) Yet again a good German team does not manage to seal the final win. The run continues.
But honestly, Badstuber and Boateng...well...Germany must find better solutions. We may compare the current midfield with the one of the 1990's, but their defensive selection is more then just bad. This Euro was nothing but a complete failure for our team. They couldn't live to expectations and they rightfully lost this game against Italy. They were afraid, played inaccurate passes and didn't fight against the imminent defeat. Plus, Löw made some inexcusable mistake. Instead of letting our team play their own game he tried to adjust our style on Italy. That along with his unshakeable loyalty towards out of form palyers such as Schweinsteiger, Özil and Podolski freed us from any chance to win. Now Italy, please beat Spain. |

Leaving to see the game. Hope it won't be as hard as in 06. But since I'm less enthusiastic for our team these days I'll take a loss better than 6 years ago I think. Still hope, that we can win. We have better players and more potential, but Italy is Italy. We'll see... |

Wow, it took goal.com a whole 4 days to totally put Lahms statments out of context and exaggerate them. Now, that's journalism for the 21st century... |

I dunno why everyone wants to call Ronaldo a whiner now. He was supposed to take the last penalty, which is, along with the first one, the hardest to take. QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 28 2012, 07:59 AM) Germany are fine to watch against bad teams. Very full against others in my opinion. So England, Argentina and Brasil are bad teams? Yesterdays game was symbolic for this Euro. Boring to death (except for the last 5 minutes of extra time that is). Also, Spain football, a revelation in 2008, becamemore fatiguing than warm milk with honey. When it was about possession AND fast, attack-minded football in the past, it's now just possesion, possession, possession. It's not Tika-Taka anymore, it is, like some news agency said, Tiki-Takanaccio. |

Greece was great. A great story, not great football. But I'm also a big fan of Otto Rehagel. On another topic: Hope for some Ronaldo action as well. He's one of the guys who make football interesting. |

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Jun 26 2012, 09:49 PM) @Ash, I hear you mate ... You win, you loose, it doesn't really change much in your household. Football, has lost its flavor to me. Other sports such as UFC and Tennis to an extent have taken me on board instead.
Football will always be football, just that as you grow-up you start noticing that the players you loved and had grown-up admiring have either retired or start getting boos because they are too old. I don't know these players, and I don't feel the strength of tradition anymore. So true. I just can't feel the same enthusiasm towards the new players as I once felt for the stars of the 90ies and early 2000s. I see that guys Busquets, Götze or Neymar are very good players. Maybe they'll be as good as the Likes of Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo etc one day, but it still won't be the same. But it didn't grow up with these guys, I'm already grown up. I can't admire players who are 6 or 7 years younger than me in a way like I did in the past. Even on our German team, and that's a great team I think, there's not a single player I really, really like. Müller is good, but that's all. QUOTE (acid911 @ Jun 27 2012, 07:51 AM) I can safely say that that's not just you. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'd call this a very "safe" tournament. No major upsets (and no I don't consider Greece coming out of the first round an upset), all good teams in the quarters, filtered down to the last four now. It started safe, with all teams playing cautiously, and looks to be ending safe. Unless Portugal can somehow win the tournament, only then would I call it radically different. That's exactly it! QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Jun 27 2012, 08:23 AM) What about Holland? Surely you didn't expect them to end with 3 lost matches.
And what about Italy? I'd certainly see a possible Italian victory as quite a surprise. Holland were a bit of a surprise. But in that group anything could have happened. Italy wasn't that much of a surprise to me. I already expected them to do well and play a more attacking football than in the past. QUOTE (acid911 @ Jun 27 2012, 08:46 AM) I actually did. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) They are one of my favorite teams in Europe, and I knew from the onset that if they don't hit the ground running Holland are going to get left behind. You can't fault the Germans for efficiency. I yearn for the day, I hope it comes in my lifetime when a German team fails to get out of the group stage in the Euros or World Cup, they are that good usually. And I knew Portugal would strangle the others and get to the next round, because they have a very, very solid defense. Plus having the best player in the world as captain doesn't hurt either. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) If you'd have asked me this earlier I'd have said it'll be either Portugal and Germany or Portugal and Holland going through. You are right however, in saying that I didn't expect them to lose all 3 matches, the Dutch. Italy, hmm? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I quite like them as a team, not sure I like many individuals in the current team. In fact, I'd say the only player I really like in there is Buffon. There I said it. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) He's an absolute gem in a box of shiny pebbles. But the thing is Italy has recently won the World Cup, while this is Portugal's best chance for some gold. Any of the four teams can win it as of right now, as a neutral fan, I'd rather it be Portugal now. Then others. I can remember very well how the German NT tried to ruin my graduation party in '04 with a 0-0 against Latvia. We didn't make it to the KO matches that year as well as in 2000 --> dark years of german football. |

You know, what I miss is something spectacular. The Euro in 04 for example broad out interesting new players like Ronaldo, Rooney or Schweinsteiger. It had Greece, the most surprising champions in the history of the Euro (besides Denmark in 92 maybe). 08 had Turkey and the new Spain. This one has nothing like that. Even when I watch our own matches I'm bored sometimes. |

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 25 2012, 06:04 PM) Yawn. And your team needed refereeing help to hold on against Denmark and get out of the group.
Get back to your cave, troll. Some more style, please. Let's see: You had Sweden, France and Ukraine in your group. That's only mediocre teams at best. We were in a group of death with Holland, Portugal and Denmark. We won all our matches, you won only two. And even the ref would have given that PK to Denmark, we still would have finished on top of our group. What are you trying to say here? QUOTE (Milan Are Brilliant @ Jun 25 2012, 07:25 PM) Agreed, 2010 was a shambles. I enjoyed '08 though, lots of great games and late drama, particularly early on. I think 2010 was quite OK. It had some very entertaining games. Euro 2008 had the most entertaining turkish team of all times and they alone made the tournament worth watching. For me, this Euro has been quite boring till the England-Italy game. That was the only really entertaining match for me so far. But maybe that's just me. |

Oh, and hopefully this time the italian media won't come up with some silly pics to suspend one of our key players like in 06. I'm still convinced: With Frings, we would have won that game! |

QUOTE (dst @ Jun 25 2012, 12:40 PM) I thought England's defense was too passive and overall mediocre. Only the back four played well and thankfully for England because everyone else was compromising team defense. Individually, England had the back four in a great day defensively but overall they played poor defense in my view.
hey there, how have you been? so what do you think about Thursday's semi-final? Kinda busy. New city (again), some work, some grown up stuff to do etc...I can tell you in detail via PM. The game, I think there's much more pressure on our team than in 2006. Back then, making it to the semis was a positive surprise. No one expected that. Now, it's completly different. For the last two years, media and fans only speculated about how we could beat Spain, and that Löws approach on that is completely different from everyone elses. Also, this is the best German NT since 1990. We have players like Reus, Götze, Schürrle, Klose, Mertesacker, Gündogan. And they're on the bench! Italy is good, and if we wouldn't play the past as well, I'm quite confident we should win. Löw has so many great options, but Italy is Italy and probably the only team Germany fears. |

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 25 2012, 01:25 AM) I wasn't talking about individual tackles, I was talking about the whole unit. I thought we were very impressive, probably the best defensive display so far. Impressive? England played like a scared little nation, Gerrard started to have seizures after 60 minutes or so, and your teams only goal during extra time was to survive it. The defense was quite okay, but not impressive. You defended with 10 people! And Italy didn't play that boring after all. If anything, they played "unitalian", tried to win a game by scoring and not by preventing their opponents from scoring. That was England. |

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Dec 2 2011, 07:05 PM) dst, Fillipo, LaPalma.. what you think of your groups? It's a tough one, surely the toughest one we've had since...ever. But we also have the best team in 20 years and played so impressive since the World Cup. None of those teams in our group is on our level of skill. Portugal has been lousy for years, Denmark is good but no dynamite and we've recently kicke Hollands @ss. So, I'm arrogant enough to say we'll easily make it. |

I agree. Since Ballon d'or and the FIFA World player something award became one Ballon d'or became as useless as the FIFA award. It's just about being popular these days. And you're much more popular if you play for Real or Barca. The actual achievements...who cares? That's why Messi won it last year. This years shortlist is a joke and basically based on the players potential/popularity. |
