So, a rumor from Turkey says that we have signed Bernard from Shakhtar on a free agent, as with Strinic (LB, Sampdora) and Reina.

The last 2 are confirmed (practically) but big question mark on Bernard, he's be a good signing for sure. Still think we need someone of better quality to start but he'd definitely improve our squad quality in terms of options and depth if we do indeed sign someone top notch (bigger question mark there)

Watching the Benevento game now, it's so disheartening to see how the team has completely thrown in the towel after that Sassuolo game

And 4-4-2 with that midfield was a fatal error as well

Strinić is very bad.

Watching Benvento now. Silva has been a massive waste of money. Yes, he has talent and maybe turns out okay, but we overpayed like never before...

Silva? Really? He's an investment for the future, the talent is clearly there, he just needs the right environment.

Today the problems are glaringly obvious don't you think? And they have nothing to do with our 2 young strikers.

Suso and Hakan are our only creative outlets, without them we're as flat as a board. Borini is a waste of space. Our right side is dead because of him, but defensively we've been a mess mostly because the midfield is completely exposing our defence. Biglia and Kessie cannot play in a double pivot imo, both are at their best in a 3. We were much better after we conceded and moved back to a 4-3-3. Our strikers were doing what they could with the scraps they were getting, but really, this is not surprising considering that line-up

It's not even Rino's fault, he went with what he could use.

But more than just tactics and performances in general, I think the players have given up on this season. They know that Sassuolo game was it, their last chance to get that elusive 4th spot and we let it slip away. We're going to be in the EL anyway as Juve will win the league and we're in the Coppa final, so there really isn't anything left to play for and it's showing.

Oh come on now Han, your excessive defending of Silva is getting ridiculous. Investment for the future? What has he done in order to prove that? He hasn't accomplished anything remarkable throughout the whole season.

I'm totally with Fillipo here. Paying 40M for somebody who might turn out okay is not good business.

I didn't say anything with regards to his price tag, the fact that we were looking for a more accomplished striker throughout the summer after we bought him proves that we were not expecting him to be our main striker for the season.

He's got big potential, and that's what you pay these days, even if it is just that.

That being said, what I said was that looking at our strikers today is not the point as they are far from the problem for us right now. Sure we need a 20+ goal striker, but if you can't give him the support he needs, it's futile to get someone in who could provide that for us.

Silva is an investment, jus like Kessie is. You can't expect these players to always perform or be instant successes especially when the team is in constant flux as it has been for a while now

And am I being excessively defensive of him? Yes, maybe. I just want us to give a player who is obviously talented a proper chance, and not go down the same road of Aubameyang, SES, Cristante, Verdi, etc. All players who we were impatient to give chances to, all during a time when we were basically cr@p and were playing the likes of Muntari instead of giving these players a chance. And now the same thing is happening with Kalinic

"He's got big potential"

How do you gauge that? A player literally has to demonstrate his potential on the pitch in order for you to pass such a judgement. What has Silva demonstrated thus far? Nothing. He has been on the same page as Kalinic.

I just think you're being deluded here by the fact that he's a young prospect labeled as the next big thing by his agent. We're all looking for that next Kaka' or Pato to pop into the rossonero shirt, but I assure you that Silva will never be that kind of player, otherwise he would have shown it by now. Two coaches, Montella and Gattuso, both preferred the likes of Cutrone and Kalinic over him. That must tell you something.

Good. Another Tier 2 player is probably not the answer. We need tier 1 players who'll bench our current XI. Even if it means we only buy one-two players a season for the next 2 years.

And I think I'm upset with Bonaventura. It's gotten to the point where it's beyond poor form and I'm imagining a consipiracy theory with his crooked agent to force a move out. Super irrational I know... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Yes. Apparently they are super disappointed in Mirabelli and he might be fired or subordinated to another director.

I agree. Except for Kessie who's been a no-brainer a lot of players have flopped. Biglia, Kalinic, etc. Hakan been the only one who's improved. But that's been offset by RR regressing. Conti is probably not his fault. Was impossible to plan for him being absent. But that isn't why we're struggling for Europe.

I respectfully disagree, I just like his style as a player, and I believe that we simply haven't seen enough from him to make that determination. Why have both Montella and Gattuso both picked others over him? Well, with Montella I feel that it's a simple answer, he's the one who wanted Kalinic, so of course he'll stick by his man. Rino has given all the strikers a lot of time, Silva, Cutrone and Kalinic have all started games and been substitutes. With Silva there's also the added factor of him being new to the league and country/language, so it's easier to go with the guys who are more familiar with the system/environment.

Anyways. I don't know, we'll see if we keep him this summer, but I believe we'll regret it if we sell him. As for Kaka and Pato, you're naming the 2 players who literally burst onto the scene, I mentioned players who came into the team and didn't make an instant mark and we let them all go only to regret it later.

Too bad, he'd be a goo addition imo. He's very fast, has a great shot and decent vision. We need players like him to be rotation options as well as competition for someone like Suso who has literally walked it for months now because there is no one to compete with him for his place

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Apr 24 2018, 09:39 AM) *

Disagree Jack, he's not a tier one player for sure, but he's much better than Borini, or even Bonaventura and Hakan as well as he's not a winger. He'd be an upgrade on the wings for us, he's free as well which would also allow us to buy that tier 1 player we need while giving us bench options and someone who can compete for a starting spot, especially with Suso who has gotten lazy these last few months as he knows he's one of the first names on that team sheet

Our current first 11 is good enough to be in 4th imo, that is in an unrealistic world where no one gets injured, tired or loses form. But our bench is dirt poor. We've gone into this slump that we're in because the players were running themselves into the ground and now that any CL hopes are over it's like they've switch off. We've lost games because Rino had no decent cards to play coming off the bench

There's no doubt we need 2-3 quality signings to be competitive in the realistic sense. But we also need to make sure our bench is deeper with more diverse and quality options on it. Bernard would be a perfect fit imo. Too bad we'll probably lose out on him

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Apr 24 2018, 09:40 AM) *
Yes. Apparently they are super disappointed in Mirabelli and he might be fired or subordinated to another director.

Well, they have every right to be. 200m and we're currently risking not even making EL, that's a travesty both financially and footballing wise.

I think Biglia and Hakan have both improved a lot as the season has gone on and they've been very important to us especially since Rino came on. Bonucci is an obvious positive imo. Even if he started badly, he's got the name recognition and is exactly the right kind of profile we need to look for in players we sign in the future. Conti is obviously bad luck but the others were at the end of the day bad moves. And I know I sound like I'm contradicting myself about Silva, but on a purely mathematical assessment of the transfer it was not a good move. Kalinic has been an utter disaster. Rodrigues has shown that he's a fairly limited player and Musacchio (although I believe he's a good defender) hasn't played much and our coaches have preferred Zapata over him when Bonucci or Romagnoli have been out.
