Pippo: Gila must stay
Tuesday 29 January, 2008

Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi has stressed his support for struggling teammate Alberto Gilardino. “He has to stay.”

With Alexandre Pato winning the hearts of the Milan faithful and wowing boss Carlo Ancelotti, Gilardino seems to be fading into the background at San Siro.

In recent weeks, the former Parma man’s future has been the subject of intense speculation as he is left to cool his heels on the bench, but Inzaghi insists that Gila can play a crucial role for Milan.

“I advise Gilardino to stay and he knows that I think that,” the Azzurri hitman revealed on Sky Sport Italia. “We have a great friendship on and off the pitch.

“At his age every player suffers a little, just as I did at Juventus where I ended up on the bench at times despite my goals.

“Nobody likes being on the bench and it’s normal to get angry as long as you vent it in the right way.

“But he has to believe in his potential and know that everyone wants him here. There’s nowhere better to be than Milan and he knows that.

“He has age on his side, he has the numbers to show that mean he doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody. He has to stay and I’m sure he will. Gila and Pato are the future of Milan and they can inspire this side.”

Inzaghi also took time to join the many voices praising Pato after the starlet’s brace against Genoa last weekend.

“I agree with Carlo Ancelotti that I have never seen a player this good at 18-years-old,” he admitted.

“With Kaka, Gilardino and Pato, Milan are set for the next 10 years, but for a bit longer they will have Ronaldo and myself as well.”

Pippo concluded by discussing the return of his brother Simone for Atalanta after an injury-plague spell.

“Simone is better than me, but he has had physical problems that have stopped him,” he claimed.

“He is still the only player ever to score four goals in one Champions League game and that is the new record I’m looking to beat.”

I don't know about Gila... I just hope the best decision for Milan and him is taken.

What he says about his brother in the end is not true. Probably bad translation!? Sheva, MvB, Ruud and Prso have also scored 4 in a single CL game.

And I'm hoping, they don't contradict each other.

As for Simone, laugh.gif Nesta slapped him. biggrin.gif He has to be better than Pippo at getting under a defender's skin. biggrin.gif

For the record I think Gila is leaving... sad.gif

Actually, Simone DID score 4 in a CL game, while playing at Lazio. It was the Lazio-OM game in 2000.

Yes but he is not the only one. Probably in Italian he said that between him and his brother, only Simone had achieved that but in English it was translated as the only player in general...
