And Im sure they'll put in a great performance againts Milan. Its gonna be hard to get a win.

I wouldn't worry if this was away. biggrin.gif

Funny...how we have among the best away records in Serie A. biggrin.gif

Tough call...really tough call. I hope we can win. I'd love for us to win convincingly by a 3 goal margin. I'd also love for it to rain money. rolleyes.gif

We have to make up 4 points in 7 games, and we have to play Inter, Juve, Udinese, and Napoli.. with our current form 4th place looks very very doubtful.

We're playing at home, I don't know how this will end. Hopefully we won't be down 2-0 at HT again sleep.gif

Kalac
Oddo Bonera Kaladze Maldini
Gattuso Pirlo Seedorf
Kaka (hopefully)
Pato Palsochi

Posted by: zdrossoneri Mar 30 2008, 07:37 PM

I don't know... Kaka is supposed to be there but I'm not sure if that'll make much difference... I predict a draw...

kaka will make a lot of difference. When kaka plays seedorf is marked less and then he can do his play making. I hope we go

Pirlo obviously needs some time to rest and get his head back on his shoulders. He is playing like a serie B midfielder.

Here's Gazzetta's probable lineup:

Kalac
Oddo Bonera Kaladze Maldini
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kakà
Pato Gilardino

Here's their projected bench:
Dida
Digao
Darmian
Simic
Brocchi
Seedorf
Paloschi

The projected lineup will probably change a little in coming days - it almost always does.

I'd rest Pirlo and play Seedorf - Pirlo's exhausted, his form is horrible, and he needs the rest more than the Turtle does. I'd also bench Gila and start Paloschi - he's the one player who's really looked good for Milan over the past horrible spell.

As much as I'd love to see Pirlo sit out a couple of games, when he's gone, our team is cut in half... we have no one that is even close to his level. Oh wait, I meant to say that "we are fine as we are"!

Posted by: redbabies Apr 1 2008, 09:39 PM

No Nesta, No Oddo for this match.

Nesta will also miss Juve, and Oddo out for the season.

Dont know who'll play in the back-line. We'll probably see more Bonera action in this match (as we'll see till the end of the season)

Hope at least Cafu returns ASAP.

Posted by: Tennie Apr 1 2008, 09:44 PM

Hrm. Maybe it's time to let a Primavera player have a shot? It's not like we've got a lot of choice at this point.

Posted by: redbabies Apr 1 2008, 09:57 PM

haven't seen Primavera that much, but I doubt there's someone who could be introduced to first team at this point of the season.

Starting with Paloschi is a must. Kaka can and probably will be the difference in this game in my opinion.

Posted by: Tennie Apr 1 2008, 11:00 PM

Hrm. Slightly encouraging news from today's training.

Kaka and Pippo trained with the group including the 11 on 11 practice game at the end.

Pirlo and CAFU took part in training except for the 11 on 11 game.

So it looks like Cafu may be available.

Tomorrow will be a double training, in the morning and the afternoon.

Posted by: m1ke Apr 1 2008, 11:02 PM

When was the last time we played with a midfield of Rino, Pirlo and Seedorf with Kaka sitting behind two strikers? We always looked dangerous when we lined up like that - maybe a little suspect at the back - but this isn't the time to start thinking about playing it safe.

i can remember napoli game when ka-pa-ro thing started

Posted by: m1ke Apr 1 2008, 11:40 PM

You're right - we played with Seedorf, Pirlo and Ambro in that game, with Kaka behind Pato and Ronaldo. It ended 5-2. We need to go back to playing this way for the remaining 7 games - let's go down fighting at least.

Posted by: Bluesummers Apr 1 2008, 11:40 PM

and we absolutely slaughtered napoli like sheep.

Posted by: acid911 Apr 2 2008, 12:53 AM

The end is not near, my friends. It's here. If we somehow manage to screw up this game, fourth place is a goner. It doesn't matter whether we draw, or Fiorentina lose, we absolutely have to win this game. Losing is not an option for the remaining seven games, and this includes Inter and Juve. I'd go in with 1-0 for this one, though 2-1 doesn't sound to unrealistic either. dry.gif

And oh, we won 5-2 against Napoli, because we had a fully oiled up midfield and Ronaldo. Pato and Paloschi combined are still not Ronaldo. The reason: experience. They both have heart and skills, but they are under 20s nonetheless. We have to give them time. cool.gif

macherano got 3 games so its not unusual i guess. The FA has become tough on players for misconduct.

There must be a reason, though. Maybe the players are hiding something from us (about the management), and when they go in front of the fans, their performance drops. unsure.gif Maybe the other teams come for a draw, and play a closed game? Extremely far fetched, yes. But there is no explanation for the shows they've put up in San Siro this season. Even at the end of 2007, we struggled to win at San Siro. And now we've started losing matches.

Doesn't matter much, though, I've still got hope. What's the worse that could happen, huh? cool.gif

Posted by: Bluesummers Apr 2 2008, 04:48 AM

In my oppinion i personally think the players feel alot of pressure infront of our own fans. When they are away they can play relaxed and not worry about boos or laughter from the fans. At home they have to play a very good game in order to please the 40k taht shows up and that can i guess add to the already ever growing stress they have.

Also at home carlo can't really run his nice counter attack stragety.

Yes, I think it's a combination of both. Either way it's hurt us real bad. If we take our away record this season, and couple that with our home record last season, we'd be on the right side of Inter. Imagine, four losses (12 points), seven draws (14 points) - this alone equals 75 points up till now. sleepysmiley03.gif

The declarations of Bonera:

"Personally I'm doing fine, already on Sunday I was available, that's the important thing. I'm ready to eventually substitute an important player like Oddo and I have to give my contribution to the team to reach the fourth place in the table.

Unfortunately in the game against Atalanta we were unable to earn points for our objective. We played a bad first half, then fortunately in the second half we were more determined.
Away from home we've always done well because we wanted it from the first minute, while at home we often gave away the first 45 minutes of the game several times.

I think a solution could be to start strongly from the first minutes of the match and letting the opponent understand that it's us who is playing at home, trying to play close together, and trying to score early, which we haven't managed to do often so far.

Saturday we are playing against Cagliari who are doing well right now. They've managed to get many points against several teams and they're almost outside the relegation zone. Certainly they will come here to try and get points for the relegation battle and they are playing good football."

That's the complicated part. No one player can save Milan right now. No Pirlo, no Kaka, No Pato and of course no Bonera. This is another home game and I'm not expecting anything more than a draw Cagliari(man that sentence sounds weird). Unless of course we make a shift in our mentality and play as a team to win. Like the way Ambro was trying against Atalanta. We need every single player to step up like that and sacrifce all they've got to give 4th place a real shot(this one sounds strange too... It'll be a much different game. Carlo's line is on the job so the dressing room won't be the same calm relaxed area it has always been. Besides now that kaka is back things will change.

seedorf and kaka always play well together in the treq formation. I hope we forget all this homefobia BS and just play like we its a champions league final for us. Gila should be left out of the squad permantly or better yet he should just be released. Hell i'll donate to the club in order to pay his release clause.

Posted by: han2503 Apr 3 2008, 01:20 PM

Hopefully we'll see this formation

Brocchi--Bonera--Maldini--Kala
-----Rino---Pirlo---Seedorf-----
-------------Kaka----------------
------Paloschi--Pato-------------

Nesta is suspended for this one, so we don't have anyone that can play RB other then Brocchi since Bonera will play in the center, although Carlo will probably use this defence

Bonera--Maldini--Kala--Favalli

And for the love of god I hope he doesn't, I don't want to see Favalli on the pitch any more and I would prefer for Kala to play as LB but we all know that he will play in the center rolleyes.gif

Hopefully having Seedorf next to him will relieve Pirlo of the constant marking and the creating from deep to fall solely on his shoulders. He just needs to be helped out back there, and with the form Rino and Ambro are in, instead of helping him they've been putting more strain on him. Maybe even play Emerson instead of Rino. He had been playing well lately, so why not try to go with him?

Posted by: whoarethepatriots Apr 3 2008, 03:13 PM

If we fail to win this, we are almost certainly not going to qualify for the CL

Doria and the Zebra's are in stunning form, with Fio unlikely to relinquish their 4th spot (to us anyway)

I am very worried about all our home games, which we tend to loose and also i dont think the players can give any more, due to our unforgiving 2008 schedule

I like that. But Kala on the left? really? biggrin.gif It's like saying Gourcuff will start. If it was up to me, I'd start Kaka from the bench and bring him on in the second half if we're struggling. If we are to achieve an acceptable result against Juve, we need Kaka there.

Carletto's press conference:

QUOTE
MILANELLO – These are the declarations of the Rossoneri’s coach Carlo Ancelotti during today's press conference in the build-up of Milan-Cagliari:

“During this week ahead of the match against Cagliari we managed to work well, evaluating with attention the mistakes made during this period and tomorrow we will have the possibility to verify this on the pitch. The atmosphere which awaits us does not worry us because if the team will do what it can, I think that it will be a nice atmosphere.

“Cagliari is a team which is very alive, very dynamic, which in the last matchdays managed to find a very good arrangement. They have quick players upfront like Acquafresca and Foggia and their main characteristic is the vivacity.

“There are still seven games left until the end of the season and to reach the fourth place we need to win because the gap of four points remains, but we must think to prepare well one game at a time, starting from that of tomorrow against Cagliari.

“Tomorrow Inzaghi will be available. He is fine and returns following a month, therefore I will not be able to play him from the start, but will be available to come in during the game and will be very important from now until the end of the season.

“Even Emerson is fine and tomorrow he will be available, just like Cafu, whereas Serginho will not be available. Against Cagliari Kaka should play along with Seedorf and an attacker.

“Contrary to the game against Atalanta, I hope that our attitude changes, but I don’t think that there will be big modifications with regards to the team’s arrangement. Physically we don’t have big problems, maybe we pay a bit a lack of freshness and reactivity. However, the team has a good resistance and the diversity is in the fact that we must be more careful and more determined. From the point of view of the pride in the games against Sampdoria and Atalanta we have proven that we had a good reaction in the second half and I see that even during training there is the will to do well from everyone.

“I won’t modify my arrangement according to the positive or negative periods that the team goes through because personally I feel responsible as much as the team. Trying to throw my responsibilities on the players is not an attitude which I consider to be fair. These are players who gave me a lot of satisfactions and my recognition towards them will always be infinite and unlimited.

“With regards to the attitude of last Sunday by the crowd, in the second half the fans supported us and it was a very positive thing, but even the whistles towards the end are normal. Amongst us and the crowd there is no clash, on the contrary, in certain situation the whistles can only be of help.

“From the psychological level, the exit from the Champions League might have made us lose motivations, but now a lot of time has passed since that disappointment and now we must find the right rhythm. I followed the games of the quarter finals with a lot of interest and I was sorry not to be there. I was an interested spectator and my thought was that even Milan could have been there. We have met a stronger team in the round of last 16, but I don’t think that Arsenal will win. I would surely like to raise the trophy again, but it’s not easy.

“Ronaldinho is a great player and the interest of Milan for this player starts off from far away. Right now he is a Barcelona player and the club is evaluating the evolution of his situation. He’s a champion who interests various clubs.

“With regards to what Maldini will decide on his career, it’s a decision which must be taken only by him. He knows that we’re all available for him and that whatever his choice will be, we will welcome it. Right now he proved to be more in form than last season. His performance has always been positive and has proven it once again this year by playing as a full-back.

“On the future of players like Gilardino and Gourcuff, the situations will be evaluated at the end of the season. For me, there is the complete will to hold on to them."

So, it seems we're seeing a return to the Christmas Tree formation and Cafu as RB.

From Channel 4 News Match preview

Keep an eye on: Pasquale Foggia (Cagliari) - Dropped unceremoniously by Milan after going through their youth system, he'll have a point to prove at the Stadio Meazza.

lets hope Gattuso can cover him

hope we play good and win to me I think
Milan will win 2-1

An early goal is so very important. If we get that, we can't relax as such, but it'd take a whole lot of pressure off the players. We need an early goal for a change!

It so often happens that we do get that early goal and we do just that, RELAX. I miss the days when Milan would keep attacking smaller teams until the final whistle.

i fear we could concede 2 goals in first half because of Favalli,As They have Foggia,Jeda and Acquafresca.

for us it will be hard game,if Milan lose this game,i wouldnt be surprised since Favalli is Serie C player and if you play him you will cost it.

I don't know how I fell about that match. I just hope to win this one, because if we won't we defdefinitly won't even go to UEFA cup next season...

Cagliari is fighting again relegation so it'll be hard for us and they know that we've been stuggeling to win at home...

If we're playing well and don't relax too much we can win!
I hope carlo won't play pirlo cause he is too exhaust to play evry match and it's better to rest him for juve next week.

It's a little weird... Inzaghi doesn't seem to be coming off a fairly lengthy injury at all.

Posted by: Tennie Apr 5 2008, 08:24 PM

Neither does Kaka, Max. They both look completely match-fit. I think Pippo will be subbed off at some point in the second half, though. (BRING ON PALOSCHI!)

Posted by: fresh_prince7 Apr 5 2008, 08:25 PM

"Best home performance since smashing united in the semi's"

SO TRUE!

Very different milan team - energetic, fast paced, great link ups..

Be interesting to see if we can maintain this tempo for 90 minutes. You'd like to think we have the 3 points in the bag.

Kaka' has been like a house on fire. Should have had a second probably, great save and a near miss. He's played well in the deeper role, drifting wide when needed, then coming back into the centre, this is that guy who got all those awards.

This slight modification in the formation is making a wonder of difference.

Brilliant half.. but like someone said lets hope this is not the double edged sword. Cause we know this performance is possible, but we need a bigger squad to make these performances more consistent.
