Yet Pirlo and Allegri managed to make it work at Juve.

Look, I'm not saying Pirlo was a saint, his own words in his book prove this. But the way the club handled his situation and then to let him go to a direct rival was stupidity at its finest

I find it puzzling how many players and managers fail horribly at Milan.

Pirlo, of course only later on, which how I remember to see it as a massive loss in motivation.

So what's the deal with that? How can lose a player like Pirlo so much motivation at Milan?

Allegri, I find more puzzling, but Ancelotti I remember also had many frustrations and therefore mostly focussed on winning the Champions League, as he didn't receive enough support or funding creating a squad that can win the Serie A also.

I think it's only recently that this has been happening, but when you have so much uncertainty at the top, it's bound to trickle down

Pirlo was bored at Milan, he no longer felt the drive to really give it his all, plus he was never the star at Milan, he was always part of the supporting cast with players like Sheva and then Kaka always taking the limelight off of him. At Juve he had finally been given the chance to be the true star of the team.

Allegri does well as long as he has the squad. He won the league and came second with us as long as he had several match winners in the squad, as soon as tha was gone, his very obvious tactical limitations were exposed. At Juve he's improved imo, but he's still had the very clear best squad in the league for all his tenure, failing there when there has been no real competition in the league before last season would have been inexcusable.

I don’t think Pirlo lost motivation with us. Allegri obviously had other ideas back then. Pirlo was injured for most of the 10/11 season, and Allegri won the scudetto with an all muscle/no brain midfield with van Bommel performing really well after he was brought in in January. Hence Pirlo didn’t seem important in the end. Oh, the fools...

Because the main creative engine was Ibra, once he was gone it went downhill. It's why I still to this day don't rate Allegri all that highly.
