0-3 FT

Easy comfortable win. Genoa are just terrible so we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves. But I liked the team's attitude this time around.

Just to note, Messias has scored more goals in these 2-3 games then Saelemaekers in two years with us.

Shame about Sassuolo's goal being disallowed in the end, but I'll take the draw.

Napoli 36
Milan 35
Inter 34
Atalanta 31

Napoli-Atalanta this weekend. Let's hope for a draw.

It was disallowed? Wow, didn't even realize until now.

And there goes Kjaer as well... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Could you explain to me why we subbed in Gabbia only to sub him out during half time?

So how do you justify his pathetic performances this season? Bar a couple of good matches here and there, he's been for the most part utter trash.

He never was consistent nor very intelligent. All he had was one good season with us and one with Atalanta. He's useful and that makes him precious. But you're just overreacting, so no need to go any further.

I don't think Kessie is not giving a damn for the team. That's complete und utter bullshit.

Tonali is showing real signs of progress and he has stepped up very boldly, which made me reconsider my earlier criticism.

Maybe you are right regarding Bennacer, maybe him not playing affects his mentality. But overall he's showing very little. I think he's the kind of player that shines at Empoli or Fiorentina, but isn't ready for a bigger step forward. He lacks consistency. Injuries also don't help, but all in all I think he lacks mostly consistency.

QUOTE (han2503 @ Nov 28 2021, 08:29 PM) *
When I say not good enough it means the attitude, the concentration, the effort.

Quality has nothing to do with it. Especially not against Sassuolo. If we were being outplayed by the top teams than I would agree, but the f@ck ups have come against teams we should have beaten

For me it is all the same, with little difference. Yes, individually our players have quality. Same can be said about Cassano and Balotelli (these are of course extreme examples). But lack of concentration, focus and crucially, lack of consistently playing on a high level (see Romagnoli) - in my opinion - usually means lack of quality as well in a more broader sense.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Nov 28 2021, 08:47 PM) *
First of all, you are gravely mistaken if you think Conte disregarded the CL by choice.

Secondly, our underestimating of Sassuolo has nothing to do with the CL. It is a trait that has been accompanying us for quite a while. Just think how many points we lost last season because we did not take certain games as seriously as we should have. And we did not play the CL last season. That is what I have been harping on in the last two pages of this thread. We need to work on our heads, i.e. on our concentration and determination. CL or no CL...

I really think Conte didn't try for the CL at all (with Inter).

I disagree. This was not the typical Milan mentality clusterf@ck. This is more. And the Italian media seem to agree with me that the focus on CL football made them drop the ball and mental exhaustion caused many of these individual errors.

Horrendous game by the team captain.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Nov 28 2021, 06:30 PM) *
So CL has nothing to do with anything. We're just bad.

We entered against Atletico all-in and gave our best. While we underestimated Fiorentina and Sassuolo and lost vital 6 points. It has much to do with the CL rush. Conte by no accident decided to disregard CL football in order to win the scudetto.

QUOTE (han2503 @ Nov 28 2021, 06:30 PM) *
I don't believe that

So we were good enough a month ago but now we're not good enough?

It's the usual complacency

QUOTE (han2503 @ Nov 28 2021, 06:31 PM) *
It's looking like the usual top 4 fight will be the order of the day for us. Just not good enough when the going gets tough

Contradictory. You do not think we're not good enough yet you conclude we won't be battling for the title.

I think we lack quality and more careful planning to be serious contenders. The summer transfer market operations proved to be inadequate or (for the most part) disappointing. We created another mess with contracts and destabilized one of our crucial players. And never replaced Hakan's departure. All this is understandable.

What's less understandable is that Pioli is not trying harder to grow. We still depend on one basic gameplan and show no tactical flexibility. Our mentality is still the same of last year, squandering points against weaker teams and underestimating midtable clubs. The form dip is also a constant: everytime around Christmas we start to fold.

Collective mess. Maignan should have done better, Romag should have done better. Kessie... much much better.

Maignan, Florenzi, Bennacer, Bakayoko, Leao and Zlatan didn't start against Atletico. That's 6/11 of the line-up.

So what?

An entirely different team playing today.

Entirely different? Come on, you know what I mean. This team cannot play on multiple battlegrounds.

Sure Baka and Leao made a few errors. Bennacer isn't good as well, just like Diaz isn't making the difference (once again). But our backline seems to be lost as well, Kjaer mostly picking up the mistakes and covering for the dangerous situations, but their positioning is bad and they lack better communication.

Not sure about Diaz. What's all that "glue" and connecting come to? Poor finish, poor final touch. Well, I'm not a fan of Diaz, I'll admit. Hakan was a better player in every way, I'm not gonna let my mind being clouded by his childish and disgusting behavior after he left us.

Sure, we're still title contenders but we need to fix some serious problems.

Firstly, we really lack Hakan's mastery with the dead ball. Last season we were lethal in that department and scored a dozen of these easy goals after corners or free kicks. Diaz and Tonali (and Bennacer) are not doing it quite as good this season (in league terms) and this is visible.

Next is our crucial AM position. I think it's safe to say that Brahim Diaz is inadequate and not as good as we hoped he would be. He's too much of a lightweight, but whats more, he lacks the finesse and precision with the final touch. Therefore his movement usually ends up with a completely harmless shot or a foul for us (and again, we are harmless from dead ball situations). Just take a look at the game yesterday.

Finally, we lack more concrete and elaborated attacking scenarios. Our forwards do not shoot as much as last season, and about 85% of our shots from outside are completely harmless for the opposition. Our ration inside the box is terrific, because our strikers use almost every opportunity to be clinical. But these numbers (I can give you concrete stats if you like) will drop at some point because they are way above the average, and we will face problems.

What we need is to keep Kessie until the summer and then either extend or find someone new. Selling him now is a lose-lose situation.

4-3? Really? How did we throw this...

By losing our first team players while playing crappy players like Tata and Gabbia.

Why wasn't Romagnoli used? Surely must have been a late injury or fitness problems, I doubt that Pioli would have selected Gabbia out of the blue for no reason.

But it was bound to happen. He is, after all, a piss poor keeper.

I'd keep Zlatan in the game. I really don't see much in Giroud to be quite honest. Alexis piss poor again.
Tonali with a good performance but he made a crucial error allowing Saponara to score the second goal.

I don't think we have it in us to come back from this one. Maybe we can, but I don't see it. Theo is off this game, Leao lacking the final touch, while Alexis and Kessie keep playing poorly.

Kessie is no Seedorf. He does not got the talent, the charisma nor the brains of Clarence Seedorf.

And also, it was much easier for Seedorf to say these things because he won the CL already twice with Ajax and Real. So it's a completely different scenario from a completely different time.

Precisely my point. Kessie is not THAT good. That's why PSG is a thing for him.

But you're just full of understatements and simplifications, so I'll let you wondering why he ever would join PSG.

One more last thing: it's quite easy to make these decisions when you're not involved or even near that kind of money. When it becomes real, reality does often does not look as degenerate as you think.
