should be another easy win for us! all eyes on Sampdoria

This will be an interesting weekend. Milan have had indifferent luck playing in Livorno -- and Marco Amelia is a very good keeper. That said, if Milan plays like they did today, we should get a good result.
The Viola - Samp game could be interesting. Samp is playing relatively well (blanking Udinese is a pretty good result) and Fiorentina have a midweek UEFA Cup game in Glasgow versus the Huns. Fatigue mighth play a factor for them.

Very interesting week, this. And that's putting it mildly. If everything goes well, we can come within striking distance of Fiorentina, going into the last three matches.
Posted by: Besfort Apr 21 2008, 10:58 AM
I'm an Samp fan. I want them to win, or at least get a draw, that could put Viola in pressure and that might affect them to lose one of the upcoming games.
If I was at Viola's place, I wouldn't want the CL.
Why the hell are they battling for that place, when they know that they even wont reach the knockout stages next season in CL.
I still believe.
Forza Milan !!!

They are a good team .. They wont go far in the champions, that's true, but they can out muscle most teams on their good day
I think, above all, entering the champions league would mean more $$, that is why they want it. Of course, they have been playing exceptionally well over the past several years, they certainly deserve a shot at it
Posted by: kurtsimonw Apr 21 2008, 02:53 PM
I think we'll win against Livorno, and that Fiorentina-Sampdoria will be a draw. So we'll be within 2, but the week after that, well, that will all but end our CL chances.
Posted by: Tennie Apr 21 2008, 03:06 PM
Note from Milanello: No training today. Team gets a day off after the very fine performance yesterday. Pato will continue (!) his recovery training (and if he wasn't at 100% Sunday, it's scary to contemplate how much more devastating he'll be) and Janku will continue physical therapy. Ambro and Bonera have now served their suspensions and will be available for selection.
For what little it may be worth, here's Gazzetta's very early prediction of a starting lineup:
Kalac
Cafu Nesta Kaladze Favalli
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kakà Seedorf
Inzaghi
(by the way, on Sunday did anyone notice how we switched from a Xmas tree to a 4-4-2 when Pato came on for Seedorf? That was nice to see)
EDIT: by the way, Pazzini will be sitting out the Viola game due to yellow card accumulation.

I wouldn't be that sure until the final whistle in that match is blown. Inter has been our beatch for quarter of a century - and though the last few matches haven't gone our way, I'm fairly confident this time around. We've got a Duck running amuck - time to unleash him against the men in blue!

Our b1tch? no, at least not in the last three derbies
and I'm afraid they're gonna make it four in a row... I'm not sure but I think Mancini outnumbers Carlo in derby wins... another reason for me to be pessimistic about this match.

They have been, bar a few occasions. And the last three matches we were simply outclassed. But if you go back, there was a time when Inter ruled Milan, they were the masters of the San Siro. This was, of course, before the age of Maldini, around the time when Baresi started playing.
For most part of the last three decades, Milan has been on top. It was a different story in the last three derbies. Ronaldo got us in front, we squandered the chance. Ditto for the Pirlo free kick last time around. They haven't faced Pato yet, so a part of me still believes, we'll get them this time.
The duck will have to be at his best, same goes for Kaka, Inzaghi and Paloschi. We can't hold them back in defense, attacking and attacking good will be our only way out.

If Pippo is playing on top form...and Seedorf wakes up....I don't care if we're facing Satan's XI. I just need those two.
Posted by: morgoth Apr 21 2008, 05:51 PM
I believe this game is going to be very difficult for us, don't forget that Livorno are playing for the relegation and are very compact team, if you add to that a very good performance from Amelia, we better be watching our back, because f they score ...

Reggina are a team fighting relegation too. No..it's not Livorno I'm worried about. It is whether the Rossoneri show up or not. I hope they do...
I won't kill something if we get UEFA cup...but I've kinda become spoilt over the years.

I think we should also become anti-Roma fans this week. If they fail to beat Torino (hard to happen, though) Inter will win the Scudetto and will not care that much about the result against Milan.

How come? Even if they're champions before we meet them, they'll do everything to defeat us, this is a derby not just some game, plus merdatti said that he'll wait until their victory (over us) to celebrate (the title)

Well, I don't know about you guys, but Pola's got good vibes about the Inter match, and if it's good enough for Pola it's more than good enough for me. I'm sure if the Champions League comes down to us beating Inter, then by all means we will. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, of course, lest we lose/draw to Livorno - then the Inter match won't matter. Much
Hopefully the team puts in a good performance on the 27th, and then we can send the Inter boys right back to from where they came. Hehe.

Saw this on acmilan.com. Personally, I found it sickening (everyone kissing his rear for six weeks of good form back in February when he hadn't done jack s--- before), but maybe someone will get a kick out of it.
GENERATIONS COMPARISON
4/22/2008 5:54:00 PM
Before today's training session at Milanello two generations of goalkeepers of the Rossoneri's history came in contact: Lorenzo Buffon and Zeljko Kalac. - THE DECLARATIONS OF KALAC AND BUFFON
MILANELLO - Before today's training session at the Milanello sporting center, two generations of Milan goalkeepers came in close contact: Zeljko Kalac and Lorenzo Buffon, Milan goalkeeper in the 50s and 60s. Here is what they said:
LORENZO BUFFON:
"It's always a big emotion coming back here to Milanello. First of all I want to give my compliments to Kalac, I'm an admirer of his and I really think he's a good player.
I can't deny my emotion to be here where I spent a lot of my career. I've always said I played in a great Milan, but as a Milan fan I must also compliment president Berlusconi for everything he has done for this great club.
I'm a born milanista and for this reason when we played against Juventus in Turin, despite the fact my nephew Gigi was playing in goal, I supported Milan."
ZELJKO KALAC:
"I'm happy to be a part of this club and to be able to give my contribution in the race for the fourth place. Now there are only four games left before the end of the season and we have have to get as many points as possible. We are playing well and it will be important to go to Livorno on Sunday with the awareness that we have to win."
Posted by: Tennie Apr 23 2008, 03:10 AM
I was very amused by Lorenzo Buffon's comments re: Milan-Zebras. And the elder Buffon was a very, very good keeper in his day.

If Fio don't slip up this weekend, I can't see us making up the necessary points in the remaining fixtures. My only hope is that Torino are still battling against relegation on the last day of the season, and have something to play for. Snatching 4th in round 38 would be pretty sweet

Seriously, though, the stuff Miz posted was pretty amusing. To say the least. As for our match against Inter, we still have time for that - anything can happen between the time the players step out on the pitch. For Livorno, if the real Milan stands up, we should have a comfortable win on our hands. I'd put it in 3-1, while keeping an eye on our defense. Even if we draw or lose points, it will be quick and painless - we could be out of the race in no time. As morgoth put it, we could be out of the race even if Fiorentina keeps winning all their matches.
As always, Forza Milan!

Not quite sure if i'm intrepreting everyone posts correctly (or 100% right now I should say) cuz i am a bit tired, but it seems as if we are beginin to accept the situation as it is and we'll look to support the team to the end win or lose (surely as long as a good effort is given). And imo that the right attitude.
However no ones denying that winning is always the best! - Keep hope guys theres still some way from the end! Lets just hope fiorentina loose a bit of something along the way!

Just reading an article from acmilan.com - Pippo seems really hyped up for this weekend's game vs Livorno (he also insited that Milan winning games is more important to him than his individual goal tally, this was brought up due to him currently being on 95 offical goals for Milan and he stated once Milan wins he doesnt mind if he had to wait till next year to reach 100)
Lets hope we put in a good performance again and win this one too
(hopefully Pippo could score as well)!

Here's Gazzetta's projected lineup:
Kalac
Bonera Nesta Kaladze Favalli
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kakà Seedorf
Inzaghi
I think it's probably more or less right.
The following players are 1 card away from a suspension: Nesta, Favalli, Oddo, Gattuso, Cafu. I could see Nesta or Rino possibly rested or pulled early during the game because another yellow would see them sitting out the derby.

So today's training has taken place.
Regular stuff - warmup, drills, practice game.
Of note: Pippo, after the drills, worked on 'technical exercises' with assistant coach Tassotti. Il Capitano did individualized work after the warmup (this is the first mention of him in training since his injury). Sergio and Dida trained in the gym.

(FORZA SAMP)
Mediaset is reporting that for the game, Ancelotti will actually have a choice about who to field in the RB/LB positions. On the right, Oddo, Cafu, and Bonera are available. On the left, Favster and Janku are available. There also seems to be some doubt about whether Milan will play with one or two strikers. If it's two, it'll be Pato + Pippo, with Seedorf getting a day off. If just one, probably Pippo.

Pato's being rested for the Derby Della Madonnina
a comeo and perhaps a goal would be enough for today!

Carletto said he wanted to get the CL spot and handing Roma the title in the derby.
The problem is that it's gonna be the opposite that's going to happen. They'll celebrate their 16th title and we'll drop to the 5th place.

For those watching the game:
1. The Gazzetta text play by play shows Livorno with a 5-man defense. Is that accurate?
2. What'd Pirlo do to get the yellow? (He'll still play in the derby, btw.)

he was trying to get the ball as the other player changed his course of direction.

Wow, the race is still on.. ohhhhh happy days!
Since ricky and pippo have been back..
Ricky 4 goals, 2 assists & Pippo 8 goals, 1 assist!
Anyone think the subs were a bit odd tonight.. I would have thought a fresh pirlo and minutes for pato would have been on the cards. Althought pato seems to adapt to the tempo of a game very easily.
So can we take down the italian champions..
Posted by: Tennie Apr 27 2008, 04:02 PM
This is the first time in months and months that Oddo and Janku have been on the pitch at the same time. I'd say the subs were about giving the guys a chance at match fitness.
From the sounds of it, Bonera had a pretty good game on the right, though.
Pippo...wow. He's REALLY on a hot streak. 8 goals in 4 games! (Donadoni's going to have something to think about for the Euro callups).

That's what we hope for obviously, but not to sound negative, we have a really tough schedule ahead of us, while Fiorentina's is rather easy.

We played a good game today and Pippo was great, I didn't watch the first half but in the second Livorno was not really good. I expected a better opposition from a side that is for relegation though, or maybe we were just too good anyway, the result could be better is la Samp. managed to win but it's good result for us, another draw and we'll be ahead of them, of course we have to win all our left matches starting with the merda!

Missed the game but great results for us. Even the merda win was o.k since it gives them confidence that Roma isn't a threat, and maybe they'd not be as fired up as we'd be. Nothing is over and I definitely believe that the derby is ours to take. Inter are not playing as good lately as they were in the first part of the season and we want it and need it much more.

How do you think we should line up against the Merda? The Kaka-Seedorf-Pippo tridant is on fire at the moment. Do we risk pushing Seedorf back into the midfield 3 and start with Kaka-Pato-Pippo up front?

I'd be tempted to keep the same attacking formation, to be honest, and to keep Pato ready to put on if necessary. I'm a little more concerned about who we're going to play in defense -- will Janku or Oddo be match fit for the game? Have they both really recovered?

No I think we should leave the xmas tree for this one. It would be a much safer option against Inter. Leave Pato as a sub if we need some extra creative firepower
But if Janku is fit I would like him to start instead of Favalli

Pippo is on fire and seems like a certain starter. I would use Pato as sub in this one as we need a quality player that can change the course of the game from the bench.

Yes, but when we last played Inter we couldn't even manage to win against any of those teams but we still managed to play a good game against Inter that we could have gotten something out of had Dida not been wearing his butter gloves.
Like I said, I wouldn't go as far as to put money on them but I have faith anf hope that we could make it a happy outing in the San Siro, not to mention, we're the home team this time

Pretty average I think I don't have the numbers, no one has that great of a record on the team right now, the only guy I can think of that scored in pretty much every game against the merda was Sheva.
And we can forget that Carlo will play with 2 strikers in this game so it has to be either Pippo or Pato, but definately not both, so personally I would go with Pippo first, and use Pato as a super sub that can come off the bench and make something happen, plus as someone already said, Pato is good at coming off the bench and immediately getting into the rythm of the game

ٌWith Pato on the pitch it's more possible to see Pippo score, and vice versa. it's obvious marking an all alone Pippo isn't really hard for them. but when it's two strikers, two that move around A LOT, it's more probable they lose concentration and make a mistake. honestly that's how I see it! but I know Pato will start from the bench...

Here are datasport's player ratings and brief translations of the comments:
Kalac 6 - Il Livorno non arriva praticamente mai dalle sue parti: l`estremo difensore rossonero si gode una domenica di sole, fino al gol di Knezevic, sul quale e` incolpevole. [Livorno hardly ever got into their own half. A day in the sun for the Milan keeper except for Knezevic's goal, for which he isn't responsible.]
Promosso a pieni voti. [Does well consistently. Delicious cross for Inzaghi's second goal.]
[Not bothered by Tavano or Diamanti; in the end risked his health through an ugly challenge to Belleri. Worked well with Nesta.]
Jankulovski s.v. - Qualche minuti per riassaporare il campo. [Some minutes to regain match fitness.]
[Conducts the defense with majesty until Ancelotti decided to replace him in the last mintues. One yellow away from a match ban.]
[The expert left back did his work without fuss; some physical problems and was replaced by Jankulovski.]
Oddo 6 - Rientra in campo a tempo di record dopo l`infortunio e l`operazione. [Returned to the pitch in record time after his injury and operation. nb, no response yet to the get well card.]
[Played the last half hour, continuing Gattuso's work.]
[The slow rhythm of the game lent itself to his characteristics; the Azzuri midfielder inspires his teammates in the attack.]
[From his feet start the action of the first goal; a powerful shot closed the game after the break. If he always played like this, think where Milan would be...]
[If Milan could travel on velvet in the midfield he'd deserve it. He wants to leave? Better that the club keeps him by force.]
[A real fury in the first half. Comes close a couple of times but doesn't manage the final few meters. After the break, leaves the stage to Inzaghi and Seedorf.]
[The blonde captain carried the cross in the first half, after in teh second he limited himself to controlling the situation that by then was a foregone conclusion.]
[Superpippo is in shocking form: three fundamental goals in a key game and an assist for his friend Seedorf. 9 goals in the championship and doesn't seem to want to stop there. Puts himself in the running for a spot at Euro 2008.]

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Suppeeeeeeeeeeerr Pippo Inzaghi!!!
Very good performance again today (we could have played a couple more games like this or the last one and we would be fourth by now... ). But why do we ALWAYS have to concede! It hurts me! I'd rather see a 1-0 win than a 4-1 one...
YES! YES! Thank you Sampdoria!!
What we wished for has happened, Fiorentina dropped two points against the Blucerchiati but... now it's when it gets tough... we have to beat Inter! At least this one depends on us and not on the Viola... WE WILL MAKE IT!
QUOTE (whoarethepatriots @ Apr 27 2008, 06:16 PM)
If Inter beat us next week they will accomplish two things; Winning the scudetto and condemning us to 5th spot
That would be really really disheartening!

F me. I'm always right.
You are not and I can give you an example!

Goal.com has given him a 10. I've never seen a player get a 10 from them before. he was SUPERB today, but 10 is exaggerating.

Milannews gave him a 10 also. I might have to try to get downtown tomorrow after work to pick up a print copy of Gazzetta to see what their ratings are.

I knew it wasn't Galliani who was the reason for our poor performance. It was an American conspiracy all along...

Gazzetta dello Sport does online opinion polls on a variety of topics. Pippo was voted 'player of the week' for his hat-trick.
The poll that interested me more was 'What will the result of the Milan derby be?' Right now, 56% think Milan will win.

they are only 2 points away. lets hope they draw again. Milan
win the derby with inter. Glad that Inzaghi score hatrick
Forza Milan

QUOTE (morgoth @ Apr 27 2008, 04:15 PM)
We played a good game today and Pippo was great, I didn't watch the first half but in the second Livorno was not really good. I expected a better opposition from a side that is for relegation though, or maybe we were just too good
anyway,
the result could be better is la Samp. managed to win but it's good result for us, another draw and we'll be ahead of them, of course we have to win all our left matches starting with the merda!
No, no - this is the maximum result that we hoped for. With this we have Fiora 2 points away (we need another draw from them - if we win all games) + we escaped Samp for 2 points. Even if Fiorentina would have lost and we would be 1 point away, we still would need them to draw at least 1 more game. So them loosing or drawing doesn't mean any difference (appart the fact about Sampdoria). Unless if you are soo gready and you want to see Milan 4th with 1 point ahead of Fiora at the end (with even points we have better head to head result, so we take the 4th spot).
ATLEAST WE CAN STILL HOPE FOR CL!
