We could have easily won this just like we could have easily lost it. But had we had a capable striker, especially in those first 15 minutes when we had 3 really good chances, we'd have scored, no buts about it. Kalinic is a disgrace to the striking profession.

Anyway, all our really big matches are behind us for the season and we got out with just one loss against Juve. Had we started the season in this manner 4th would be a shoe-in for us considering how up and down Inter and Lazio have been.

Sadly, we ruined this season before October even rolled around. I really hope the management can keep this group together and bring in 3 top players.

Suso is also giving me serious question marks in terms of how effective he can be for us if we're going to aim higher next season. He's too slow and 1 dimensional. Honestly, at this point I think we need 2 quality wingers to start for next season + a top striker capable of securing us 20+ goals a season, we haven't had that since Zlatan and it's really hurting our chances now. Silva and Cutrone are still both to green to be able to provide that and Kalinic is a hopeless case

You're asking for too much. For that matter, we need to replace half of the team. Suso is more than fine, at least for aiming at that 4th spot. If our ambitions will start aiming higher, then we could look for a quality right winger.

Right now we should focus on a left winger and a top striker, if we'll be lucky to get even those.

As for the game, I wasn't expecting us to win. The games we should have won were the derby and Sassuolo. The team failed the fans in those two occasions, so I don't care anymore. The season is over.

Maybe I am, but Suso has been disappointing for a while now.

As for the team, we're doing all that we can but we don't have the lethal touch that we need. The bit of luck we were running on in the games against Genoa and Chievo seems to have abandoned us. That being said, starting Kalinic was a big mistake, I really do not understand what Rino is trying to accomplish by continuously giving him chancesa that he really does not deserve. Silva always does well when he comes on, yet even when he's winning us games he's not given a little bit of time to try to establish himself. Cutrone also work 3 times as much as Kalanic and generally scores when the opportunity is presented to him, yet as soon as Kalinic scores he's given the start and Cutrone is dropped despite all the hard work he puts in

For me, next summer the priorities have to be as follows with number 1 being the most critical

1. Top forward
2. LW
3. Bonaventura replacement
4. Rodriguez replacement
5. Kessie sub
6. RW
7. Biglia replacement/sub

Obviously I don't think we'll address all those areas, the first 3 are definitely an absolute must though

As for the season, we still have to make sure that we maintain our EL spot, and if the CL door should open again we have to at least be in a position to capitalise. We haven't won since the Chievo game, and all this falls on our inability to score

There's also the Coppa final. For me, this is still one of our best moments in a long while now.

The first two mostly. We need attacking power, people who can hurt the opposition and score +20 goals per season. We need a top scorer for once. Everyone's got somebody. Higuain, Icardi, Dzeko, Immobile, Mertens. We're the only ones who cling on to mediocre strikers.

And then we need a dynamic left winger/forward. Enough playing Hakan there who's clearly a midfielder.

Yet we'll still finish 6th, just like last season. What changed in the end? +220 million spent for nothing.

I think a proper creative CM to replace Bona is just as important. We don't have enough creativity in our midfield, and while Biglia is far better than Monto, he's mostly great at winning/recovering the ball and distributing it cleanly. Kessie makes great runs but we lack that real spark from the midfield and generally rely on the wingers to create all our chances.

I think Belotti could be a real possibility next summer. I don't know who we can realistically get for the LW, and 'm also sceptical about that CM position. The players we need would cost a lot and I can't see us splashing the cash next summer, in fact I think we're in for a lean transfer window. That being said, I have a feeling Donna will be sold, so this could open doors for us to make some moves if FFP allows it after getting a decent cash injection from his sale.

Montella ruined this season in the first 3 months of it. Nothing else to say about it really. I've seen some really encouraging signs under Rino, we're definitely a far more solid unit, defensively sound and move the ball better, but I get the feeling he's more of a defensively inclined coach and needs great players upfront to make things happen for the team. If the management can manage to keep this group together (Donna doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things and at this point I personally want him gone if the money is right) and bring in the 3 top players we need, we can easily get into the top 4 next season. Our form since the turn of the new year has been second to Juve. We've drawn some big games but we're definitely very hard to beat. Which isn't something that could be said for a while now about Milan

Speaking of transfers, what did I tell you all about Morata? Botched it at Chelsea. He's just not cut to be a top striker for a top club.

I thought X-Off raised an interesting point about Suso disappearing defensively. Rino sort of touched on that point in his post game interview, when he said he asks too much of his offensive players.

Do you guys think Rino's excellent (by our previous standards) defensive organization comes at the cost of offensive thrust. Since our main offense down the wing often has to track back, they lack the legs/positioning to launch creative or incisive attacks. If so, what's the solution?

Hmm, decent, but I think Rino will stick with the 4-3-3. And although Hakan could just as easily slot into the 3rd midfield slot, I still think we need a top quality guy for it rather then just putting in a temporary patch like what Hakan would be.

Depay is a big question mark for me. is stats in France are impressive, but any decent player looks top class over there. He failed at United, I'd rather go for someone like Martial for example or Keita if that is possible.

That being said, that 11 is good. We Our best effort needs to go into improving that bench a bit as well. ino has no depth and no cards to play when we need to change things. I still think we should consider players like Verdi or Deulofeu for the bench. They'd add quality to our terrible backup options. Add to that if Hakan and Bona are moved to the bench by whichever new signings come in, Rino would have a lot of options, both for rotation and for in-game subs

We really have to be careful in who to sell and who to buy this summer. Our market has to be inch perfect, especially if the budget will be as tight as I'm expecting it to be.

He's a quality player, his time at Chelsea has been problematic because the team in general is having serious off field issues and these were going on before the season even started. I don't think he's suited to the EPL or Chelsea's style anyway. He would have fit in better with us imo.

Well, the modern winger generally is asked to track back. We can't have 3 guys jogging up top just to keep them fresh for when we attack. Suso is relatively slow for a winger and not the best Athlete around. Same for Hakan tbh. Rino generally puts the team into a 4-1-4-1 formation when we don't have the ball, so Suso and Hakan have to be part of the first defensive line when we're not on the ball. Any flashy winger would struggle with this, it's why I have question marks about someone like Depay for example.

Yep, his agent confirmed himself that we had asked him to be an intermediary and negotiate a potential deal for Morata, but it didn't go through, he still got his commission for that work though

Don't know if anyone bothered watching today but it was honestly one of our worst games in months. Took me back to the beginning of the season with Montella.

Shameful display with no one even bothering to try. Hakan not being in there hurt us badly, we simply have no out ball without him. Add to that the sudden obsession with Kalinic from Rino and it was a disaster

What really p!ssed me off was how they completely dropped off as soon as we scored. You could smell that Toro goal coming from a mile away. What an abaolute sucker punch performance today. I still believed in our season, but today showed me that even the players have now thrown in the towel and are just playing out of obligation to play.

Suso, Bonaventura, Kalinic and Borini were terrible. Suso, one of our best players supposedly, he was absolutely craptastic today. Once again, I know I already said this and was brushed off, but if we have higher aspirations than EL, we have to look into replacing him as well. He's too slow and one dimensional. He has a 40m release clause in his contract, something he and his agent wanted, if someone shows up and pays it, we should sell ASAP. Just like Donna, if we can get good cash for both we should cut our losses and re-invest it properly

I caught parts of the first half and I was pretty disappointed as well. But, unlike you han, I think after the slog of the last few games (especially Inter, and Sassuolo) I saw our season as dusted.

I also agree with your feelings about Suso. I have never been a real fan of his, and although he has gone through stretches where he has been great to me he never screamed World Class. I always compared him to Mo Salah who always showed that killer edge and brought something different. Suso can succeed only in Italy where the pace is slower and a player doesn't have to be so dynamic. I agree that if someone comes with the 40M I would be okay with letting him go.

Completely baffling that Gattuso keeps throwing Kalinic out to start. He has the most experience but IMO brings the least of the three strikers we have. Need serious investment there this summer. The proceeds from a Suso sale would go a long way.

I read this week that Gattuso may try and switch to an Ancelotti inspired 4-3-1-2 which is the formation I grew up on. I would be ecstatic to go back to that. Suso is the only true winger we have so selling him would help that transition. I think it would require a few players but the 4-3-1-2 would be better to accommodate both Hakan and Silva. Plus Conti would be great on the right to provide that width. I think we would still need another striker to lead the line and at least another midfielder but I could see it working.
