Since this discussion has been going on random threads, and since it is taking up much interest it deserves a thread of it's own smile.gif

^^ Personal preference, zd. That's the order in which I'll watch games on weekends (and they're often on at the same time).

The Premier League’s runaway success in Europe’s premier club competition is far from guaranteed to continue, according to Arsène Wenger.

For the first time two English sides will fight it out in the Champions League Final. But in the current climate, the Arsenal boss believes it is hard to predict whether the same could happen again.

With player power growing ever greater and the money in the game flowing as quickly as ever, Wenger thinks that the speed with which clubs can address weaknesses means that little in the game is predictable.

“This season, England was by far the best league,” said the Frenchman. “But it might not be the same next year.

“You have to accept that in the modern game it can change quickly. It is not like it was 20 years ago and it can change one season to the next because many clubs can rectify their mistakes.

“Next season you can have a strong Real Madrid, Barcelona or a strong Milan.”

You can best judge a league by midtableish teams. In the EPL, outiside the top four there is no real talent or quality (generally speaking). Are someone like Man City ever really going to trouble Chelsea during matches?

For me La Liga is the strongest league around. Regularly do teams like Huelva and Almeria trouble world class teams and players like Barca and Madrid, and the top four is pretty much unpredictable and usually changes year on year. In the EPL (or even Serie A to an extenet) the top four are guaranted to be the same teams

Villa haven't lost to Chelsea for 3 years, including taking 4 points from Chelsea this season. Also, Chelsea haven't won at Villa Park since 2002, so they've yet to win here as part of the big 4.

In my opinion, the EPL mid-table teams are better than Serie As mid-table teams, or at least as good as.

But it's all about hype, that is my point. If they called it coca cola division 2 it wouldn't sound anywhere near appealing, similar to the prem - if that was still called division 1 it wouldn't sound anywhere near as appealing as English Premier League. In fact the initial name(the Premiership) has even changed, can't see any reason why it needs yet another name change other than to hype it even more.

With all the hype surrounding the EPL I'm surpried it isn't sponsored by Nike, marriage made in heaven IMO wink.gif
*

I've always called it the EPL, whic to me doesn't sound the most attractive name. In fact, the name, The English Premier League, sounds quite old fashioned, more like what a rugby league would be called!

It's all well and good calling fans in this country stupid. But what's so stupid about going to support your local team? It's something that most other leagues would dream of, having 30,000+ fans every week.

There seriously is no point in this discussion...

Serie A hands down

I just found out that... La Liga I care very little about.

Er.. Milan is NOT the first team for some of us. It's also interesting that some Milan fans have voted La Liga as their favoured league.

Yap huh.gif

There is something I recognized. Although everyone said that he/she favours Serie A in this thread the Serie A thread hass 100 sites less than the Serie A one and almost 150 more than the one for La Liga....

Besides that I'm obviously the one who voted the Bundesliga. I would like to thank R7 first for including it here (since it's although it's hard for me to say, ot as big as La Liga, EPL or Serie A. At least not on an international stage).
Then I'd like to say that most people on Milanfan can't really judge the Bundesliga as besides me only Tennie and Fillipo regularly follow Bundesliga matches. It's therefore much more a popularity contest than a discussion about the style etc. of the leagues themselves.
As the popularity of Bundesliga doesn't seem that big I'll do some advertisement (although I didn't have a chance NOT to become a fan of the Bundesliga...)....

1. The teams in the Bundesliga play great football.
2. It's the most unpredictable league in Europe because the only team to constantly be on the top are Bayern. Other teams like Stuttgart, Bremen, Schalke and Leverkusen (sometimes) are on the same level.
3. It's the most attended league in the world with almost 40.000 people watching a match. Numbers La Liga and Serie A could only dream of.

Posted by: Rossoneri7 May 5 2008, 02:55 PM

@LaPalma ... This thread was meant for discussion above all.

I would also like to add that the Bundesliga is one of the most entertaining. I mean, teams like Bocham come in and cause problems for the rather reputable teams in the Bundesliga .. What I mean is, that it is certainly an unpredictable league, a very interesting one in that you never know who will triumph and who will end up in the CL next season biggrin.gif

Posted by: kurtsimonw May 5 2008, 03:16 PM

I think anyone who watches the Bundelsliga will probably end up liking it. I'll admit that I never paid attentio to it until Der Hammer went to Stuttgart, but the majority of games I've watched in the last few years have been very entertaining!

Posted by: Tennie May 5 2008, 03:24 PM

My favourite Bundesliga game this season was probably last place Energie Cottbus 2 - 0 Bayern. Great game. biggrin.gif I do watch the games each weekend and find them very entertaining!

Thank God you haven't watched the Bochum-Berlin game sleepysmiley03.gif (it was even for me as a fan boring...).
The problem of the Bundesliga in general is that it lacks international stars (of course). Besides Ribery, Toni, Diego and van der Vaart there aren't too many players that have "a name" outside of Germany. Even Torsten Frings who's one of the best DMs in the world is barely known in Europe (as far as I know).

La Liga is not my favoured league, i just feel that it is the strongest.

EDIT: ah, didnt see the "which appeals to you more" bit. I thought it was "which one is the best"
